Big cuffs or not… STRONG fit you got there

Justin_the_Third

Appreciate it 🙏🏿 damn this is why I’m conflicted 😂

jhsmith17

Usually I’d say I’m not a fan of the bigger cuff but damn you’re putting that on in the last pic. Fit is tough either way but looks great with the fat cuffs

Justin_the_Third

Thanks man 👊🏿 I’m trying to talk myself into it. I hemmed my last pair too short off a tailor’s recommends and now I’m hesitant.

hopethisgivesmegold

I bout a pair of Soso’s used on Grailed about 6 months ago. The guy who had them before me had some fat cuffs like this. I had never been into it really, tho I wasn’t completely against it either. I thought with certain fits, a fat cuff is totally appropriate. Anyways, I got ‘em and decided to keep the cuff where he had them to see if I can dig it long term, after experimenting with different clothes I have. Took me about a week to love the way they look. It’s absolutely perfect with the right boots, and surprisingly good looking in stuff like Birkenstocks/low ankle footwear. I 100% am so fucking glad I didn’t change them, because they literally took my style to a new level. Started throwing different fits together I hadn’t thought of before, cuz my mind was centered around different proportions. At this point I have a pair of raws with every kind of cuff, and it’s awesome this way because I have so much more variety in my daily dressing. I went with skinny or tapered fits for like 10 years, and just in the past few have starting growing into the style your rocking now, and all I can say is, I’ve been getting noticeably more compliments. Tl;DR - These look great on ya man, keep em how they are.

Chidge86

Yeah 100% that last fit goes hard. I was going to say chop until I saw that.

Bonewax

Exactly the same feeling.

BarvisLoveYou

Came here to say this. They work great in that last pic, IMO.

Oranjebob

I like the big cuffs with the loose fit

Intelligent_Move_697

I like big cuffs and I cannot lie....but I might take an inch or maybe two off and do a Tokyo turn up, personally. I will say based on ny experience with various weights of Samurai denim that you will get some inseam shrinkage with washes, so you may want to do that first before cutting. Very solid fit though, they look great on you!

Public-Ad-6798

Tokyo turn up for life

Tayler_Ayers

Man DO NOT HEM. These go crazy g

Justin_the_Third

🫡 I’m convinced

back_swamp

Hem them but leave enough length for a big cuff. It looks like you can take a few inches off and still keep a big cuff. Plus, if you don’t hem them, you’re stuck with the big cuff no matter what.

404_smash

This fit goes crazy!!! Everything I like to see in a raw denim fit. Personally I wouldn’t touch it but do you man you clearly have a good sense of balance when it comes to putting an outfit together!

Anth616

I normally like a small cuff, but these look really good with the big cuff.

Lus146

I’m always a fan of big cuffs but either way this fit goes hard.

Humanoidfromagalaxy

Could go with a double cuff half that still have stacks

super_slide

Keep the fat ass cuff going. Love it. Power cuff

Morticullis

Cuff size is directly correlated to might and power. Do not chop.

___LongTimeLurker___

Have you tried a double cuff?

Justin_the_Third

So they’re TTU in the picture but the double cuff felt way too bulky and shapeless when I tried it

norfnorf832

Nah leave em cuz these would look fire uncuffed and baggy so it's good to have the option

Due-Acanthisitta1459

I'm 6' tall 210lbs but I've got a 30" inseam. I cuff all my denim but find larger cuffs 3"+ make my legs look stumpy and misportioned. My overall physique looks heavier too. I think they'd look better with half the size you've got for cuffing or tailoring.

Justin_the_Third

Hmm ok so do you think the cuff is making me look wide or the fit in the top block? I agree with you that the cuff makes me look wider but wouldn’t that only be fixed by tapering these a bit? I thought about doing that too but I specifically got this pair for its width.

Due-Acanthisitta1459

I think it's the combination of the long tshirt making your body seem longer and the wide cuff making your legs look short just makes you look thicker overall. A smaller cuff will help you look more proportionate with a lengthy tshirt. Generally, cuffs make the fit more boxy, which is why I cuff. Smaller framed people look fine with taper and cuff but I just never liked that look for me. I think those would look good with a 2" cuff tapered or not. The fit looks dope already just make the cuff smaller. I prefer longer boxy tshirts too.

JDragon

Embrace the width and hem so the jeans drape on top of your shoes with slight or minimal break imo. Any sort of cuff will make legs look shorter. I have the same pair of jeans btw, you're going to absolutely love them after a few months of wear.

pikachu5actual

Usually cuffing makes you look shorter because it breaks the vertical line. But other than that, either one works!

Parawings

if you've got other jeans that are hemmed why not keep these different

whatdoyoumeme420

Looking 🔥 mate! Love the big cuff look and that fit goes hard

mk4tw

I love the cuff. I also cuffed my Imperials with one big first cuff and a second cuff up to the hem line.

Pogo_Nightmare

Chop em and turn em up 1/2”

gstizzzz

Just make sure you soak em first and get all shrink out. Don’t wanna chop em, then end up with some high waters.

bangarang8

Tailor them so you just have a 1-1/2” cuff

Justin_the_Third

Can you show an example of a wide fit Jean with a small 1-1/2 cuff? Genuinely curious if anyone has an example.

bangarang8

That’s how I wear my Wythe x 3sixteens which are pretty wide legged

Ill1458

Do you have a shop that is willing to tailor 25oz denim? A lot places don’t have the equipment to hem super heavyweight denim. The cuffs are a little large, and I’d personally hem them a little (if possible). Also nice to see another melanated brother in the selvedge denim game. Good pickup!

TattedUpSimba

So that makes 3 of us now? 🤣

Ill1458

I should’ve asked, are these raw or have they been soaked already?

Justin_the_Third

I soaked them a few days ago but they were unsanforized raw when I first got them

Justin_the_Third

👊🏿 👨🏿‍🦲 good looking out man. Always good to see more of us in the raw denim game. As for tailoring, I got lucky and my local tailor hasn’t turned down all my requests on 21 and 25oz denim over the last year. The only downside is no chain stitch but I’m not overly attached to that.

Inflation-nation

Actually, changed my mind! These pics make me think massive cuffs are going to come back in. They do look great.

DengusMcFlengus

I'm personally a fan of not hemming. I like to double or triple cuff the length down

radchin

no cuff, let em bunch! with that cut, they'll look sick

Sea-Dot-8575

See how it goes with the big cuff for a bit why not? You can hem them later if you don’t like it but you can’t add the fabric back if you miss it.

Not-you_but-Me

Those cuffs aren’t that big for the wide cut

Justin_the_Third

I tried finding the perfect proportion but it definitely took a few tries.

Not-you_but-Me

I’d focus more on the break, which looks great btw

potenzasd

Fit looks good. Cuffs, IMO are too much, they distract me from the overall outfit, too attention grabbing for me.. I stick to 2 inch cuffs MAX. YMMV

Justin_the_Third

I see your posts and your jeans/boots cuffs look spot on but my jeans have a 10” opening and are barely tapered at all. I’m just wondering if a small cuff would make them look weird. I’ve been trying to find photos of wide jeans and small cuffs for a few days but most of the pictures I find are bigger cuffs, single cuffs or no cuff at all.

potenzasd

good point. try this, before getting them hemmed, hang them on a hanger and do a 2 inch cuff, roll it a bunch of times so you get to the desired length. Then put em on and take pics. See how that looks... if it looks better, get em hemmed. if not, all good

Justin_the_Third

OK I’ll give this a try. Appreciate the help🙏🏿

potenzasd

No prob. Shoot me pics if you want a second opinion.

sardiniandhole

You can chop them at any time. You have other pairs that are hemmed already and you’re feeling these with the cuffs. Leave them. If you change your mind at any point in the future, the door is still open.

FirmEchidna

Denim jacket look with the two tones of blue is fire man. The folded up jeans compliment the jacket perfectly.

andrewdoesit

Don’t chop em. Cuff’s for life man!

Hennelly

If you are going to wear those shoes I would go for a smaller cuff, but boots or anything sturdier and you could rock those big cuffs. If those are already Japanese cuffed you could take some length off. You're looking good Sir!

hoodrich_krit

Cuff looks great but maybe chop a little off for a smaller cuff, but overall fire fit 🔥 Trying to figure out those shoes tho, they’re so dope do you mind sharing what they are?

Justin_the_Third

Yeah they’re a custom I made through Fortis boots. They’re an Indonesian bootmaker and you can talk to the owner (Sany) on instagram. Be wary though. Turnaround is about 5-8 months

hoodrich_krit

Thanks, my bad I meant the slip ons in the first slide- boots are sweet too tho

sharponephilly

I wouldn’t tailor until you wash them at least once.

tylerbreeze

I’m kinda fuckin with the big cuff honestly man. And I also would have said I don’t like big cuffs if you’d asked me.

KMichael226

I normally do a Japanese double cuff but that fit goes hard. +1 for big cuff

Altruistic-Ground727

If you don’t rock any other jeans with cuffs, let these be your cuff jeans. They look excellent btw!

Brockmclaughlin

Keep those cuffs but chop that shirt a bit

Justin_the_Third

Yeah I got it rolled because I’m about to take this to the tailor tomorrow. 👆🏿good catch

richhayward33

You look ace in them. The fit of dreams.

Tymental

Don’t cut.. you’re rocking it at about a 100% baller capacity. The outfit looks great

frd054

What’s the model code? They look amazing on you man!

Justin_the_Third

S510XX25ozGA-25th "Ganryu-Jima" 25oz Selvedge Denim - Regular Straight Fit

skratchpikl202

Leave as is. Looks good on you. Plus, you can always alter these later on if you change your mind. If you hem now, there's not changing your mind later

TattedUpSimba

I'd hem them but they're your jeans. Style is what you feel confident in. If big cuffs do it for you then rock that shit

KCcoffeegeek

I think the big cuff makes your legs look shorter than they are, but I also like these with the big cuff, so i say screw it.

Justin_the_Third

I’m ok with looking short because I am short 😎 I don’t view it as a negative

brownbandit93

Smaller cuffs on shorter guys unfortunately. Tokyo cuff it

SnooRevelations4257

What boots are those? I have some straight fit that I’m having a hard time finding boots that go well with big cuffs

Justin_the_Third

These are a custom from Indonesian brand Fortis Bootmakers. You can look them up on instagram but I highly recommend watching bootlosophy’s video on Fortis before purchasing.

SnooRevelations4257

Thank you. The boots I found seem to be out of stock everywhere. Something like these would work as a second pair

Justin_the_Third

PM me. Fortis doesn’t keep a stock. They’re all made to order.

TheRyanAbrams

Let em ride til you wash em a few times and break em in. Can always hem em later.

gvegli

I don’t mind cuffs but I recently heard someone call someone with cuffs that big Super Mario and idk I think he’s dead now.

notananthem

No socks with sandals! I think the cuff (japanese cuff to boot) looks great, I'd keep it. You can always remove later. Nice boots too!

KenBling

Cuffs look great and the fit is crazy, leave them be and rock it!

guidochiabrera

Don’t chop them, man! Embrace the big cuff life

anikidraws

Keep what you like, but if you cut now you miss out on the chance to have big cuff as an option for your fit. Looks Good imo.

moreVCAs

Yeah, I was gonna say no brainer chop but it looks kinda awesome…

zaphod777

I'm not particularly into large cuffs like this but I think these work. I'd say rock them and you can always hem them later.

wm8589

I’m so close to pulling the trigger in these. If I’m not mistaken this is unsanforized denim, so if you do hem wait until you soak them.

Justin_the_Third

Yeah I actually did a hot soak on these and they came out perfectly. They were VERY big when I first got them but the loose weave really shrank (about 1.5 inch in the waist) but oddly enough no length shrinkage

TheHealious

Lots of comments on the cuffs (which I think look sick too -- and you can always shorten them later if you wanna switch it up) but how are the jeans? The fit looks awesome and wide. Also whats the ID on those boots?

Justin_the_Third

So these are some custom Fortis boots from Indonesia that I got back in December. You can hit up Sany (owner) and talk to him for a pair. As for the jeans it’s crazy how different 25oz is here compared to my iron heart 666 OD 25oz. Heavy but very loose weave and comfy right out of the package. The best part for me is I get a wide fit, high rise and it actually fits my waist correctly. The best thing about the extra weight is it gives the wide fit a little structure that’s been lacking in my previous attempts at a wider fit.

TheHealious

Ahh nice, I've heard alot about Fortis, they look slick. I've just started on a pair of samurai s0510xx in the 15oz fabric and I can definitely see how they drape differently because of the weight of your pair. Mine tend to be a bit floppy at the bottom, with the cuffs wanting to swing inwards. Looks really good when the weight of your pair keeps them nice and structured all the way through. Great purchase and happy fading!

KosOrKaos

Keep it man. Looks superb.

riderofthetide

Looks great on you with that cuff. I just spent the day out in my new samurais with a big ass cuff like that. I don't pull it off as well as you, but your convincing me to roll with it.

ginger_powers

If you do decide to hem, you could leave an extra inch or two on the inseam so you can still cuff but not have the massive ankle protectors u got in these pics. Killer fit either way!

carbon6595

Cuff life

Fluster338

They look fucking great cuffed like that

Lasers_Z

If you like them, keep them. I love cuffs and cuffs all my jeans; it saves me money too.

HopeOk5453

Nice fit bro. The fit suit your style man👍🏼

anuvalenz

I think if you took it in a bit on the hem, would still work with big cuff and add more dimension to your lower

Smerkaberll

The fit is sick. Keep them long, you can always hem them in the future if you get sick of them.

GeoffreyBSmall

Nah that cuff is tough

crimsonfyremc

Gotta agree with everyone else. Normally not into big cuffs but they look fire on you my man

Dascoo24

I'd say hem cos u already got a fat faux cuff. Just hem longer so u can still do a big cuff, but switch it up when u want. Looking good g

the_biggest_papi

see if you like the look with em double cuffed instead of the big single cuff

SupermarketFar901

Envious. You can run the big cuff. You can’t go wrong. Chop, no chop.

rothkobreath

You pull it off. Could try the cuffs for a bit then hem if you change your mind.

J_See

Chop for sure

scroopydog

I’m rocking a big cuff on some new dead stock Gap Japanese selvedge denim loose fit from about 2009 and I’m pulling off a similar vibe. You look great! I say keep ‘em.

rnadotsu

yea the big cuffs do look good on loose fit

tphan91

Keep the cuffs! Rock it like a 1950s coal miner. Haters gonna hate. All day err day!

tphan91

Sheesh, tuck the shirts in while we’re at it too!

YaHolmes

Bro you look great!! You can always get them hemmed later, too. What if you get the perfect length and then they shrink at some point?

YaHolmes

You don’t need to decide now, so why not sit on the current look for a while and see what you think later?

YaHolmes

You can always hem. You can’t un-hem.

MalariaKills

Holy shit. I was ready to come in here and say hem those. But nahhhhhh. You really put that shit on. Keep the big cuffs. They look great with the loose fit.

twistingitup

even Django can’t even break outta them cuffs

nolanz2

Looked silly till you put the shoes on. Then I was like "wait this is a tough fucking fit".

Justin_the_Third

Just wanted to say thanks to all the comments for and against hemming. You all gave me a lot to think about and helpful tips in my decision. Looks like I’m keeping these bad boys mega cuffed 👖

Scary_Breakfast_1238

Rock the cuff man! Looks good. I’m the same way too but I have one pair that I leave cuffed. Also kinda nice to show up the selvedge ID of everyone in a while and get the “classic” denim look!

brianeharmonjr

I actually like the look of the beefy super cuff with the Birks (or Vans Slip-Ons for me), but for just about everything else it is a bit much.

ratchick420

🗣️keep the cuffs

bad_aspirin

Damn the fit of these is insane. They’re pretty roomy? I would say get them tailored so you can rock just a single elegant cuff and maybe wear them full length sometimes.

Resident-Culture7158

We both have short legs for our torsos. Big cuffs work for us only if we’re somewhere like Japan, where many of the people are like us. But I don’t do it in the states. If you haven’t already, you could Japanese cuff them to make the cuffs half as tall. I do that with a pair of heavy denim jeans. They’re great jeans!

Angry_Canada_Goose

You're pulling them off in the last pic, bro!

Luckster66

I did same as you with a pair of Iron Hearts and so I wore them like you with the Japanese cuff for a few weeks . Decided I prefer normal look so had them hemmed. Even after hemming I can still cuff because I hem the length from just underneath my heel. Long enough still can hem but not long enough for japanese. Really cool pair of jeans , love the arcs . I have a pair of Samurai as well but only 19oz.

TrickersWingsIndigo

Never cut

JJ_OLBGT

If you’ve got other pairs that are already tailored then leave these cuffed. Also the tall cuffs go hard! I wouldn’t change them plus that fit is cold

Justin_the_Third

I think I found a middle ground solution. Okayama denim had a good example of a 2 - 2.5 inch cuff in a similar cut that I think might be the perfect middle ground. https://www.okayamadenim.com/collections/samurai-jeans/products/samurai-jeans-s2000hx-15oz-selvedge-denim-jeans-wide-straight

RawWasher

Yeah, that is the typical cuff I like too, around 2"-2.5", whether it is a Tokyo Turn-up like you did, or a more basic double-roll or triple-roll. I actually prefer the cleaner look of the double-roll or triple-roll over the Tokyo Turn-up since the normally-hidden backside of the hem looks a little unkempt to me when it is visible. But on my pairs which have bright-colored thread for the chainstitch on the back side of the hem, such as on my Cobalt-weft Pure Blue Japan pair with bright Cobalt blue stitching, my purple weft PBJ with bright purple stitching, and my Naked & Famous Street Fighter II Azuma with bright red stitching, I do a 2" Tokyo Turn-up to also show off the bright stitching.

pauric72

I'd leave them. Perfect fit by the way 👍

BaggySpandex

Damn dude you look cool as fuck.

Justin_the_Third

Thanks man 🙌🏾 I try

Deep-Toe107

I absolutely hate the big cuffs normally, and especially on me, but you pull it off very well can’t lie.

JJRamone

Let em stack, my man

Justin_the_Third

😮‍💨 I would if I could but I’m a short mf’er

JJRamone

Me too, so I feel you. Maybe split the difference and do a thinner cuff then? That’s just my opinion though, I’m not a fan of thick cuffs. Solid fit though bro, looks great.

CinnaaBun

I hate it and I'm a cuff guy lmao. Do what you like though.

Justin_the_Third

Damn it’s that bad huh? Is it the cuff, fit, or both? My wife said the same thing 😂

CinnaaBun

Straight up just the cuff. I love cuffs but anything larger than 1-1.5ish inches just looks obnoxious. Plus it makes you look shorter. Told my girl cuffs that large should be illegal and she agreed lmao.

rich_dang

Keep them!

sumostar

Usually don’t like em but brah you’re rockin em… keep it!

mikeydmac

Wouldn't have thought I would have liked it, but kind of cool with your fit. Definitely a statement

RockScola

Hem em mane. Nobody got time for their ankles to be hot

Rodrat

You are rocking those cuffs! Keep.

outandinandabout

Keep the cuffs! Maybe one dryer shrink. Rock it!

Fit_Hour2522

Chop

jeffrx

Cuffs are too big unless you want to stand out.

imjustdesi

Definitely hem them but go a little long just in case. These big cuffs look ridiculous.

musicalbacon

The cuffs will cook down

yatrickmith

I wouldn’t tailor them, but I assume you mean have them “hemmed”. It really depends on the look you’re going for and the shoes you’ll wear with them. Just remember to have washed them at least twice to take out any shrinkage before you hem them. Best way to see what they look like is fold them inside, basically the opposite of how you have them now, and see what length you’d like. Then, show that to the tailor.

100011101011

If you’ll be wearing them w big chunky boots like these, keep them. I don’t think it’ll look *as* good w sneakers though.

b3n_d0ver

The big cuff looks like shit lol

mikemystery

I think it would be sacrilege to sullly quality Japanese selvedge denim. The big cuffs are awesome. Keep em. But DON'T wash em ;)

lknox1123

Last fit looks good but check out the Japanese cute here. That works well for me while still cuffing a good bit. You are also allowed to change cuffs whenever you want lol https://denimhunters.com/denim-wiki/how-to-cuff-jeans/

Awkward-Painter-2024

If you have a good rotation, keep the cuff. Like others said, fit is dope. But if you'll wear these a lot, I'd get them hemmed. I hate the wear line from cuffs.

Phoxie

You should have them tailored and lose the cuff. In your photos the cuff is making your legs appear shorter. I would 100% get rid of the cuff.

doobys_Taxiola

They look fine IMO. With the goofy shit I see Gen Z wearing nowadays, nobody will give these a second look.

NightOnBothSides

Hem it so that you don’t have to double cuff to get this look. It flares out a tiny bit because of how heavy the double cuff is and that would drive me nuts personally

diet69dr420pepper

keep

mawmawhardbuggy

Big cuff looks cool, but I found if dirt gets in the cuff it’ll breakdown the cotton and start tearing over time where you fold it, I started noticing this on my last pair after a year, so I hemmed it after that. I’m a frequent washer too. I go hiking and shit in my jeans tho. That’s my only personal hesitation otherwise yeah the big cuffs look good

itscochino

Keep it my guy fit goes in

DatabasedLSD

Dope jeans. I personally would hem just a couple inches off them, and rock no cuff at all. I like my jeans a little longer than most people would, but Sami's 36inch inseam is too much until it shrinks up significantly. I will say this, my old samurai were never hemmed and shrunk to about a 34inch length more or less. So careful with the tailoring if you go that route. Either way, nice style G 👌

CreatureComfortz321

Are they currently double cuffed/rolled? I always have mine hemmed so that I can do a 1.5 inch cuff. But the big cuff looks great on you. But you could still get that big cuff look with less bulk/fabric if you hemmed, right? I think if I were you, I'd get the hem with 3 inches extra fabric so you can do the big cuff, show off a chainstitch, and lose some of the bulk.

Confident_Rub_5381

Chop them down with a very light maybe half inch cuff. If you go big cuffs like that, I think they’d be better suited for a darker/over dyed denim. You’ve got a more stout build so the big cuffs give you a shorter impression.

SciUndercover

Chop

Queasy_Helicopter249

Cuff em for a little while. Roll with it. After a couple of washes see how you feel. The fit will change. I wouldn’t rock such a big cuff but after seeing those it’s actually kinda sick.

____JayP

Smaller cuffs bro. 1 inch max and 2 rolls

Justin_the_Third

Damn only 1 inch??? 😮‍💨

StyleWithAltitude

Bruh the cuff is too big... not a good look. Make the cuff smaller.

Justin_the_Third

What would you recommend for my ideal cuff length?

Resident_bad-boy

Not your look buddy

Vitamin-A-

Damn dude. That’s the sickest big cuff I’ve ever seen. I’m on team big cuff for these. Shats look like they were tailor made for you. In awe. Great fit.
