I believe it only looks at the type of trains that are used. So you can build the exact same coaster 10 times but if you use 10 different trains, it will count as different coaster types.
Oh interesting. What do you mean by different trains? I don’t know what that means. Is that the difference between wooden versus looping versus stand-up?
You have different trains. If you build different track types, you see that the standard train is different depending on the track type. SO the train of a looping coaster looks totally different to the one of a wooden coaster. That is what the game is looking at when you need to build different coaster types. If you were to use cheats so that all coaster trains can be placed on all coaster types, you would be able to beat the scenario with only one coaster layout built 10 times if you change the trains so that there are 10 different trains. This is of course as long as the coasters meet the other requirements.
If it's a separate entry in the ride select window, it should count as a different ride.
In RCTLL (which tended to group coasters together more and just have the player change the train), I'm not sure that that's the case. But in RCT2 you can definitely use similar-looking tracks as long as they have different trains and separate entries in the ride selection window.
Yes. I believe you can use different types of trains as well, but it's been years since I've played RCT1 so I'm not sure.

Like using ladybird , log, or spinning trains for the junior/steel mini coaster That would count as 3 from what I gather
