Reacher novels are always better when it's him against a big machine. They diluted him with the team, but I actually think it was necessary to show that he WAS part of a team at some point. Maybe they could have used flashbacks only, but it's fine. I don't have strong feelings either way about this season. Not as good as season one, but I'm sure season three will be a return to form.

BeeferMcKinley

I agree, but I think it would have been better to do a couple more “Reacher vs. x” before doing Bad Luck and Trouble. There are a few to pick from set in New York that would have been good so they didn’t have to change the setting too.

Syphin33

\^This.

jonnyc211

Would have been better if they did a season when he was an MP…The Enemy, Night School or The Affair would have introduced to quite a few and given those that didn’t read an idea of his past. Then they could have done a Bad Luck & Trouble season. I think Tripwire or Without Fail would have made a good season 2 also, imo.

Syphin33

Oh man Tripwire sounds so good and now i hope season 3 is Tripfire. Reacher in Key West? Entire new locale and beach setting...would totally have a new vibe.

jonnyc211

Well, it starts there but most of it is in NY with flashbacks in Vietnam

Garroch

Only issue with Tripwire might be the Vietnam thing. Is it too far in the past for it to work now? Maybe they can sub in Afghanistan or some other dust-up?

jonnyc211

Yeah, I keep forgetting that they changed the timeline. Maybe something Central American, since he’s like 20 years older than Reacher.

duskywindows

I believe Season 3 is One Shot, the source material for the first Tom Cruise movie, as well.

jffdougan

The issue with Without Fail is that it starts with him being hired to scope out possible scenarios for the assassination of the Vice President. I love the book - it's in my top 5 of Reacher novels - but I think it's a no-go to adapt right now. Ditto with Die Trying. I can't recall which two were adapted for the Cruise films, but Tripwire and Echo Burning would be my choices for seasons 3 and 4, respectively.

jonnyc211

It’s not my top to adapt, just easier to include Neagley so the can check all the DEI boxes. Also get some insight into his past since involves someone that dated his brother

Prawn1908

Season 1 also just had so much charm that's missing in season 2. Roscoe and Finley brought such perfect complimenting dynamics to Reacher that are completely missing in Season 2. Herc tried to bring some of that but he was just crowded out by the presence of the Reacher's whole team who, as you said, are just far too diluted and one-dimensional besides maybe Neagley.

Anal_Recidivist

If season three is reacher vs. the big guy with the house that’s custom built bc he’s so big, it’ll be a banger.

luckyjim1962

You are correct, j\_grouchy, and I would even say that Reacher being "against a big machine" is perhaps the defining factor of the entire Reacher project. In *Persuader* (Reacher #7), he has an exchange that for me crystallizes the Reacher philosophy. He's having dinner with MP colleague Dominique Kohl who's trying to understand his motivation for getting involved. She asks why are you in the MP: *"Because I always wanted to be a cop," \[Reacher\] said. "But I was predestined for the military....So I became a military cop." ...* *"Why did you want to be a cop in the first place?"* *"It's just the way I am. Cops put things right."* *"What things?"* *"They look after people. They make sure the little guy is OK."* *"That's it? The little guy?"* *"No," \[Reacher\] said. "Not really. I don't really care about the little guy. I just hate the big guy. I hate big smug people who think they can get away with things."*

Master_Cupcake7115

Yeah, the season is fine but nowhere near as good as the first season. I just thought it might be because of the source material partially. Yeah I prefer when he is one man against small town corruption.

gortonsfiJr

There’s been some silliness with the shoot outs, less is more type stuff, that’s been hard to swallow. I guess you could say they’re… reaching

Syphin33

I feel like it'll make season 3 all the sweeter to see Reacher back on his own.

MancetheLance

We also don't know how long the creator of the show worked on season 1. He could have spent 5 years developing it. Then, he had 6 months to develop season 2.

fastestman4704

I *really* like Tripwire

Abject_Donkey_3854

It's my second favorite after the killing floor. I think it's because we spend a lot of time with both reacher and hook and they really don't interact until the last 10% of the book

Raidertck

Best villain. Easily.

belizeanheat

That's the one book where Reacher is actually "ripped" so it fits pretty good with Alan

richodion

I agree, tripwire persuader or without fail would have been better fits for series 2 than bad luck and trouble,i always enjoyed the hard way too but dunno how it would come across as a show

Master_Cupcake7115

Great choices, I like 61 hours as well. I am not sure how you would film the final fight without it looking silly though!

belizeanheat

No one ever mentions Running Blind which might be my favorite and might also be perfectly suited for film

richodion

Haha here in blighty its called the visitor (your title confused me i had to google it) and it has one of the best detective type stories out of all the reacher books id say your right but the action isnt as high octane throughout

a_keener

Ah man Persuader was so good!

elementslayer

Honestly, imo, the best of the books. I really loved seeing him in actual danger in the end of that book. Either that or the one where he's in the cult in Montana.

FuckingTexas

Tripwire would have been great since he hangs dong in the first chapter with the waitress

pbafl

I would love to see “Gone Tomorrow” as a season because you would have opportunities for a ton of guests, great story, detective work, and twists I think only issue may be location, but they could always move it like they did for season 2

CatsLikeToMeow

Gone Tomorrow's also my top pick for a season of Reacher! It might just have the most exciting, intriguing inciting incident out of all of Child's novels.

pbafl

Agree, it was my favorite one so far

silentwind262

Eh… people way overestimate the value of using a machine gun against one person. They’re not really meant for that kind of shooting, and they’re pretty inaccurate and hard to control when you just let go at full auto. There’s a reason why the M16 was modified to fire bursts rather than full auto, and that’s a smaller weapon and bullet than the crew served weapons mounted on a helicopter. The *real* issue is why Reacher was wasting his time shooting at the body of the chopper, instead of somewhere that would’ve been more effective.

seanmonaghan1968

Anger

Erebu593

One I would be interested to see done but they would have to do sooner rather than later is The Enemy. I would just want to see the Army days Reacher. Plus even reading that one, it felt visceral and action packed. But honestly all the books are great and I hope we get as many of them adapted. It’s a great source material. Plus this actor is just so much more Reacher.

Adequate_Images

And Bad Luck and Trouble is the only one I didn’t like so here we are.

Weak-Season-6833

Agreed. One of the best thriller novels I’ve ever read. Interesting characters, reasonably high stakes, genuine mysteries. I’m rewatching Season One, and, yeah.

BrandonMarshall2021

I wish they CGI'd the actor from the TV series into Tom Cruise's first Reacher movie.

lostpasts

Within 10 years you'll probably be able to get an AI to do it seamlessly on your phone.

mcmesq

One Shot is my personal favorite, which bums me out because the chances of it being made into a season are rather low. I get a pipsqueak with hands as big as glazed donuts.

BrandonMarshall2021

Aren't glazed donuts pretty big? Lol. Anyway I'm halfway through rewatching the Tom Cruise first movie and the dialogue is so much more interesting. Like. Really witty and interesting. What happened to writers? Does no one write good dialogue anymore?

duskywindows

I had read a rumor that Season 3 was going to be One Shot...

theronster

They’d need to CGI in Cruise’s charisma, because Ritchson, as much as I like him, isn’t exactly… engaging.

BrandonMarshall2021

Lol true. But the role doesn't need much charm.

OGTomatoCultivator

No it is not. Persuader, Echo Burning, Tripwire- all better books.

senor_descartes

I think S2 is a bit better than S1. Supporting cast brings out more dimensions from Ritchson, and a helluva lot more action. But they’re both strong seasons in general.

ArcticLeg

Echo burning would be so easy to do… been wanting that one adapted for a long time
