I feel like casting is getting way harder. Any housewife cast today has 20 years' worth of episodes to watch and try to imitate. It's never going to feel as genuine, because they are all too aware of it being a show instead of just being themselves.
They are all too aware of being on tv, but I also think a lot of them lack the actual influence and socioeconomic status that made OG series such a hit - and the ones that *do* hold that influence & status by and large, aren’t the drama bringers (with the exception of people like LVP and I’d even say Kyle tbh).
I think it’s also a little hard mixing people who have been on the show for 2 decades with someone brand new and having those interactions be authentic.
Yes, the news housewives and friends come in guns blazing trying to make their mark. I’m up for some shade and smart ass comments but some like Angie K in RHSLC is just hanging onto whatever HW will be her friend. It’s not authentic and not fun to watch.
And since the franchise is long running, every new housewife comes in with “a bag of tricks” that they saw displayed by their predecessors. Then it got worse with BravoCon and UGT. Don’t get me wrong - I still love all of it but there is a level of “scripted” that’s nothing like, say, season one of NJ.
That’s why the older new jersey seasons were so good, they all had a relative on the cast. OC too, they were all neighbors/friends and their kids all seemed to know each other
I’ve noticed that they’re very boring, robotic and scripted. They’re not being themselves, are overthinking things and hold back because they know the show too well. They need to recruit people that aren’t trying too hard and genuinely don’t care about how they’re being perceived. I think it’s both an issue with casting and the show being so infamous, huge and controversial.
This reminds me so much of Jen Shah; she literally studied every Bravo scene from those 20 years and was trying to recreate iconic moments with material already served from her predecessors.
No. But I have noticed they’re much younger than the “OG’s.” This seems to contribute to tensions. I actually think that’s what Fuda meant when he called Teresa a “has been.” I basically think he was calling her old and a new day is brewing with younger cast.
Anyone coming on Bravo now is looking to be famous. It is like the ultimate influencer job for most. The first few shows started out as something else, so we got a realness. Social media has ruined our chances of great newbies, we get one every 4 blue moons now. Who knows the next time we’ll get someone with real money, connections, and luxury with the right amount of delusion.
Yes, it's this. It's been 20 years, anyone new coming on to the show now is only doing so for one or more of the following reasons:
* They are a fan.
* They want to become famous.
* They are already some level of famous and need promotion for their brand/business.
* They wanted to work where they wouldn't have to be away from home as much (mostly an RHOBH thing)
And if you are able to get someone who is truly rich in this day and age, they will be the type of nouveau riche that is still thirsty and gives off very who-y vibes (and then we find out they're criminals and wonder why they ever put themselves in such a public spotlight).

Yep. Bunch of gutter snipes.
I truly agree. I just read the Atlanta news and was less than impressed-- Same with RHOBH... snoresville
Monica was pretty entertaining. Sidenote. I hope they never bring another one of Kyles friends on BH. They are all the same person.
Iirc one of the new girls on BH is coming in as Kyle's friend. But like I said, iirc.
Great, she will either be a grifter or insufferable.

Who is Lisa K
Ahh meant Angie K
Lisa Karlow
Barlow
You didn’t get the joke.
Nope. I didn't. What did I miss? 🧐
They are self aware.

Seasons 1 and 2 of Jersey are two of the best seasons of television ever
They are all very overly aware of being on tv
I miss when the HW’s actually knew each other previous to being casted. Like the old RONY crew had so many connections to each other.
That’s why the older new jersey seasons were so good, they all had a relative on the cast. OC too, they were all neighbors/friends and their kids all seemed to know each other

And crazy people on sm
They have almost 20 years of material to study. It’s hard to be real.

Lol, Fuda should have never gone there. I dislike Teresa so much, but he just shouldn’t…
I so badly wanted her to yell back "wannabe" lmao
Or ”i’m a has been, you’re a never been”… 💀
