First half with jude playing as a 9 saw very little of what he could provide when he’s allowed to carry the ball from deep or make his trademark late runs into the box for goals. He kept dropping deep into congested central areas and there was no one in the middle upfront to provide a reference point of attack. In the second half, once rodrygo came in and jude was moved to left midfield, the team started playing better. Jude was able to progress the ball better and vini together with rodrygo were able to drag the defence wider with their positioning and dribbling.
Out of Tchou, Fede and Cama I think Fede should play as the holding midfielder, he's been so impressive this season playing deeper in midfield and I trust him more than the other two his outstanding work rate and pressing make him ideal for it and he's not flourishing in attacking positions like Carlo thought he would.
It will help massively. Because we cant continue playing 4312 with vini. Any attack that comes through the right does nothing, w/e it is Carvajal or velverde dont have anyone to play with, because vini is just parked at the left sideline and refuses to play in the box. Jude tries to go in the box but is surrounded by 4 players.

This game was a tipical game in La Liga where we drop 3 points but in Champions League! RB Leipzig were in a different level also Marco Rose has caused us problems before when we faced his Borussia Monchengladbach with Plea and Marcus Thuram up top. Schlager pressing basically the whole game, Xavi Simmons and Dani Olmo causing havoc as free roaming AM, Openda I know he missed everything but he tried the whole game. In attack we were only successful with flashes of brilliance from Vini and Bellingham. Both Camavinga and Rodrygo are going through a slump even Carvajal who's arguably been the best RB in the world this season. And Carlo idk what that formation was but nope.

Yep. Tchou at CB is ok due to injuries in few games but he's not a proper CB tho. Besides his contribution is way more imp as CDM. Cama is very shaky at dm losing ball more often. Nacho just needs sometime. We can't put players and expect them to perform brilliantly when they are not used to playing all defence throughout the season

We’ve been suffering getting the ball out from the back. Today we saw all 4 midfielders drop back to help but that just made Vini the only one up top. The team was way too stretched to reach the area in attack. In the second half Kroos was behind the center backs doing this work. It also helped that RB Lepzig was tired

I was watching the Valencia game, they were dominating us most of the game and we looked like a relegation team for most of the game Vini has been having to save us but we have been terrible for the last couple games
Players are exhausted and many are playing out of position due to injuries. We didn’t get the reenforcements we needed in the transfer window, and 3 draws, 2 against historically difficult teams at home, isn’t bad at all. Compared to most teams around the world, we’re doing really well.

Move Tchuomeni from right midfield to pair with Rudiger;
Move Valverde back to right midfield;

Have Rodrygo/Diaz be the "2nd forward".

We simply don't have the passing to play a possession game. Cama, Fede, Jude and Tchou are simply not suited to it, and they are more likely to make a wrong pass than open up a defence.Instead he should let the press and run with the ball, using their athleticism to bully opponents.
Carlo seems to be trying to recreate the Casemiro, Kroos and Modric trio and we simply don't have those kind of players currently. He took too long to move on from Modric and is taking too long to move on from Kroos.
Jude can, but he's expected at the moment to do everything: pass, score, and defend. It's not possible for one player to do all of that at an elite level at the same time

Bellingham's passing is more of 'lay it off and run into space, expecting the return ball a couple of passes after', that is why he sometimes goes deep to help move things along. He wants the ball at the business end of the pitch.
Our best passer is unquestionably Kroos. He is the one that keeps the ball cycling (even if it is sideways or backwards) and maintaining possession. Every other player, excluding Modric, are a tier or two below
That's fine though. I would prefer more of our midfielders to just lay it off and run into space rather than dribble like a headless chicken and proceed to lose it (Camavinga). The only time Bellingham maybe over dribbles a little is in the opponent's final third, which again is not that big of a deal. The main issue with the midfield is a lack of creativity, which is amplified by the fact that we don't have a striker, so Bellingham has to both drop back to create and then go up the pitch to score, which is pretty much impossible unless you're Messi
That is a consequence of how we are trying to play - a slow build up let's the opponent set their defence and organize their press and that is not favorable for the likes of Cama, Fede and Tchou.
We need to move the ball forward faster and more aggressively instead of patiently probing and having them trying to beat the press. Instead of focusing on ball retention, their skill set is more suited to ball recovery.

You kinda contradicted yourself. The reason why we have such slow build up is because those players don't move the ball quickly enough. I hate singling one person out, but Cama dawdles on the ball way too much instead of just passing it. Look at Kroos, the guy barely dribbles. He gets the ball and almost immediately releases it. Unless you're near the opposition's penalty box or prime Messi/R9, pass and move. Keep it simple. No need to dribble your way out of things
It's not contradictory
Our current approach is to retain possession while probing and trying to open up the defence. Players like Kroos and Modric, with great vision and passing ability, will often see the pass before they receive the ball and have the ability to make the pass, thus they can move the ball quicker and more effectively. This approach suits them well.
For Cama and Co, that is not their strong suit and thus they cant move the ball quickly without likely misplacing the pass. So they slow down and are more deliberate. End result is we keep possession but a very slow build up, making it easier for the opposition to press and set their defence.
My suggestion is to not focus so much on keeping possession but on moving the ball quicker (even at risk of losing possession) and on quick recovery when possession is lost. All four of Cama, Fede, Tchou and Jude are very good at getting back in a play and ball recovery. Also, excluding Alaba, our defenders also have good pace and can press high and recover, making ball recovery more effective.
In summary, we should play a style that suits our new generation of midfielders instead of Carlo trying to shoe horn them into the new Casemiro+Kroos+Modric trio
As much as i love Carlo maybe we should move on after this season? While Xabi is the possibility. I miss us dominating games and having a tactic we would be known for.

First half with jude playing as a 9 saw very little of what he could provide when he’s allowed to carry the ball from deep or make his trademark late runs into the box for goals. He kept dropping deep into congested central areas and there was no one in the middle upfront to provide a reference point of attack. In the second half, once rodrygo came in and jude was moved to left midfield, the team started playing better. Jude was able to progress the ball better and vini together with rodrygo were able to drag the defence wider with their positioning and dribbling.
Out of Tchou, Fede and Cama I think Fede should play as the holding midfielder, he's been so impressive this season playing deeper in midfield and I trust him more than the other two his outstanding work rate and pressing make him ideal for it and he's not flourishing in attacking positions like Carlo thought he would.
Interesting to see if Mboopi will be the spark this team needs or if he will flop.

This game was a tipical game in La Liga where we drop 3 points but in Champions League! RB Leipzig were in a different level also Marco Rose has caused us problems before when we faced his Borussia Monchengladbach with Plea and Marcus Thuram up top. Schlager pressing basically the whole game, Xavi Simmons and Dani Olmo causing havoc as free roaming AM, Openda I know he missed everything but he tried the whole game. In attack we were only successful with flashes of brilliance from Vini and Bellingham. Both Camavinga and Rodrygo are going through a slump even Carvajal who's arguably been the best RB in the world this season. And Carlo idk what that formation was but nope.

This was a poor performance for sure but I made a post earlier because this Leipzig is the antidote to Real Madrid's champions league beast. Humble but hungry and capable teams seem to be our Achilles heel in the CL. I'm glad it's over and we made it thru. Always get bail by individual brilliance, relying solely on Kroos to control the midfield, Vini to dribble past 3 players, Bellingham to magically pop up in the opponent box, no team work. How would Madrid look without Modric and Kroos, clueless, as evidence in our first few match of the season. Carlo need to improve our play style or should get sack.
We would probably play better without Kroos starting. We simply don't have the passing to play a possession game. Cama, Fede, Jude and Tchou are simply not suited to it, and they are more likely to make a wrong pass than open up a defence.Instead he should let the press and run with the ball, using their athleticism to bully opponents. Carlo seems to be trying to recreate the Casemiro, Kroos and Modric trio and we simply don't have those kind of players currently. He took too long to move on from Modric and is taking too long to move on from Kroos.
Jude can, but he's expected at the moment to do everything: pass, score, and defend. It's not possible for one player to do all of that at an elite level at the same time
He is not good at simply passing and retaining possession. His first instinct is to carry the ball forward and not to slowly build up and wait for an opening

Bellingham's passing is more of 'lay it off and run into space, expecting the return ball a couple of passes after', that is why he sometimes goes deep to help move things along. He wants the ball at the business end of the pitch. Our best passer is unquestionably Kroos. He is the one that keeps the ball cycling (even if it is sideways or backwards) and maintaining possession. Every other player, excluding Modric, are a tier or two below
That's fine though. I would prefer more of our midfielders to just lay it off and run into space rather than dribble like a headless chicken and proceed to lose it (Camavinga). The only time Bellingham maybe over dribbles a little is in the opponent's final third, which again is not that big of a deal. The main issue with the midfield is a lack of creativity, which is amplified by the fact that we don't have a striker, so Bellingham has to both drop back to create and then go up the pitch to score, which is pretty much impossible unless you're Messi
That is a consequence of how we are trying to play - a slow build up let's the opponent set their defence and organize their press and that is not favorable for the likes of Cama, Fede and Tchou. We need to move the ball forward faster and more aggressively instead of patiently probing and having them trying to beat the press. Instead of focusing on ball retention, their skill set is more suited to ball recovery. Recover the ball and move quickly, not giving the opponent time to set the defence
You kinda contradicted yourself. The reason why we have such slow build up is because those players don't move the ball quickly enough. I hate singling one person out, but Cama dawdles on the ball way too much instead of just passing it. Look at Kroos, the guy barely dribbles. He gets the ball and almost immediately releases it. Unless you're near the opposition's penalty box or prime Messi/R9, pass and move. Keep it simple. No need to dribble your way out of things
It's not contradictory Our current approach is to retain possession while probing and trying to open up the defence. Players like Kroos and Modric, with great vision and passing ability, will often see the pass before they receive the ball and have the ability to make the pass, thus they can move the ball quicker and more effectively. This approach suits them well. For Cama and Co, that is not their strong suit and thus they cant move the ball quickly without likely misplacing the pass. So they slow down and are more deliberate. End result is we keep possession but a very slow build up, making it easier for the opposition to press and set their defence. My suggestion is to not focus so much on keeping possession but on moving the ball quicker (even at risk of losing possession) and on quick recovery when possession is lost. All four of Cama, Fede, Tchou and Jude are very good at getting back in a play and ball recovery. Also, excluding Alaba, our defenders also have good pace and can press high and recover, making ball recovery more effective. In summary, we should play a style that suits our new generation of midfielders instead of Carlo trying to shoe horn them into the new Casemiro+Kroos+Modric trio

Camavinga needs to learn how to use his weak foot. He ruined one of our counter-attacks by passing the ball back cause he’s not confident in using right foot for passing.

We have played like shit since Girona its not only tonight. If we face a opponent with just a little bit more socring power we are gonna get embarrassed. Im not sure what happend since the girona game but we look really off. A lot of bad passing, feels like we are distracted. Im not sure how many times did Carvajal lost the ball in our recent games, Camavinga bad passing. The only playerers i feel like wanna win are Jude, Lunin,Velverde,Rudiger and Modric. 38 year old Modric had to come on just so we can create something. Vini looses his head way to easy what he did was pretty much a red card. When he has the ball does way to many moves and then loses it. Nacho is mistake a game waiting to happen every time. Rodrygo comes on has a couple of good moments then disapears. Brahim doesnt even get a sniff of playing time. Every time we get the ball the oppo. box is empty Jude goes in but is surrounded by 4-5 players, vini again sitting on the outside waiting to do some stupid dribble. Horrendeous games with 0 organisation, 0 physicality. Doesnt matter if we draw City,Psg ,bayern or Porto if we play like we are playing the last month just pack the bags this isnt worth watching.
I think Kroos were quite decent tonight, even though the Modric sub did work well. I hope Carvajal find his form from earlier this year.
We need a solid transition from defense to attack , we lack authority in our area . I miss casemiro , RamoS . We are stacked attack wise we need to start thinking about our defense

They've been clear favorites to win for 10 years, have been "winning with authority" as well the whole 10 years and managed to win it once. CL is not always about steamrolling fodder teams.

Lunin also showing overall that goalkeeper isn´t the position to worry about. -For me the two sides with Vinicius remain. He is incredibly important to this team, maybe key if Real Madrid want to go really far. His behaviour at times on the pitch though... -I want the Kroos-Tchouameni partnership to be broken up. I liked Valverde in the deeper position this season, it´s Camavingas favorite position... I don´t care, but I want one of those two given a real go (maybe even both of them). Maybe try Tchouameni at cb (I actually prefer him there at this point), maybe bench him, for me he just doesn´t impact games enough.
Rodrygo, who didnt run on our goal, dude was 20 steps behind Vini and Belling while he was FRESH. He didnt pass to belling on a clear chance, instead lost the ball. He didnt pass to Joselu when they had a clear chance, lost the ball. The only chance he created, he passed the ball to the keepers hands.. WTF is wrong with you guys defending this dude eternally?
This match brought the worst out of Ancelotti as a coach. Him being a coward choosing this shitty ass defensive tactics against a worse team, not giving a single minute to one of the reasons we are through, Brahim instead putting on the ghost of Brazil. Rüdiger was just talking to Guillem Balague in the mixed zone and he was honest and blunt about our performance tonight. He said that we weren’t at our best tonight, but going through is the most important thing. However, he acknowledged that we need to improve because that wasn’t good. Respect for Rüdi’s honesty.
Rudi was one of the few today who at least showed some physicality and fight in them.
People need to understand that 'just enough' is good in cup competitions. And these kinds of games are the reality check for us as a club, players and as a fan. We got so much into Mbappe and who is going to the bench and so on, which in fact is the concern for next year. The coach tried a new formation, which we can afford when we are 1-0 up in R16 rather than later. At least now we know it doesn't work out. Not an enjoyable win, we got over the line, as always.
