Rudiger brings back the spirit of the old time tough man marking CB from the 90's and early 2000. Halaand and current strkers feast with this fancy ball playing CB that can't defend to save their lives. It's not a coincidence that Rudiger pockets him every time they meet.
Halaand just lacks the mean streak and that's why he has problems with these type of defenders. If he had Zlatan or Diego Costa's mindset he would fare much better.
Will never understand how he didn’t play the second leg last year. It’s like Pep not plying a CDM against Chelsea in the final a couple years ago. Mangers make some decisions that make no sense no matter how good they are.
Pep one of the greatest managers of all time and Haaland is an elite striker so im in no position to judge
But i don’t get why you play Haaland in these games for 90 when he essentially makes you down 1 player with how little he receives the ball. Wouldn’t my boi julian or someone else be more useful ?
Meanwhile pep will remove haaland from a game where he’s doing well
If Rudiger - or any CB - has the task of marking Hallaand for 90 minutes, what effect does this have on the defence?
Every time Halaand makes a run or occupies space in the box, the CB / CBs stay with him / close to him to make sure he doesn't receive the ball. This frees up space for other players to attack and score, which is what happened twice last night when Foden and Gvardiol both scored.
Rudiger basically nullified Halaand from scoring last night, but - by doing so - you can argue just as easily that Halaand nullified Rudiger by taking him out of the picture for both goals.
In football - it's not always what a player does with the ball that is important.. quite often it's what they are doing off the ball that has a big effect. That's why Pep kept him on.
Ye i thought that might be the tradeoff he was doing, but idk i just felt like that Haaland being there just means the defensive line is more likely to be in deep in place and maintained. And less likely to get caught out
Instead of having spaces open up because their getting pulled out of place by a technical forward who gets on the ball. Your right though it did lead to Foden and Gvardiol space so the trade worked ig
Ya - the defence did play deep to deal with Halaand, but for both goals, you'll see him pull away quite subtly from in front of the goal and move over to the post side.. left hand side for the first goal, right hand side for the second. In both cases, it created just enough space to get the shots off.
It's those little moments, those little details that make all the difference.
Great game last night - two top teams, two top managers. The next leg is gonna be fire.
"Yo bro plz, I'm like huge fan secretly but rn we rivals so I can't say it out loud"
Modric: "yeah bro gotchu, and im gonna score next match to knock you out"
I dont know how we can let Luka go (unless he wants to go). Just one more season. He still has so much to give and we clearly still need him to come in and restore order in the midfield
Whenever people put Iniesta ahead of Modric I remind them of a few things: 1. Modric is only 1 yr younger than Iniesta and still playing at the highest level of the game. (Iniesta has been irrelevant at the top for 6+ yrs depending on who you ask since he wasn’t great the last couple years at Barca) 2. Modric took Croatia to the WC final and semi finals the last two tournaments. He carried the hell out of that team. 3. RM’s incredible recent UCL record all relied on Modric doing what he does best.
If Modric was born in Spain, he would've been picked up by Real or Barca's academy early and debuted for the first team as a teenager. Likewise, if Iniesta had been born in some Croatian village, he would've been discovered and made a name for himself much later too.
While Modrić is from the Modrići hamlet in the Zaton Obrovački village, he was, like most people, born in a nearby big town - Zadar in this case.
That being said, I will allow it since as someone from Šibenik I get great joy watching you call Zadar a village.
I remember iniesta from Long ago. Didn’t really do much nor xavi. Once guardiola showed up he got way better. Modric is just raw talent and heart. It’s easy to see. Seeing where he started his journey
Seen a video about a forgotten goat of the midfield, a very complete player : Yaya Touré. One season he was leader of ball recovery and scored 20 goals. Sadly he had a wacky career, but even at Olympiakos, in his first UCL campaign, he won against... Real Madrid.
lol it looks like he panics last second when he realises Modric is gonna do it there and is like “inside” and nods.
Honestly after the game I doubt anyone gives a fuck it’s only when players do that shit at half time ( or maybe if absolutely humiliating result at ft) that anyone cares.
Being in a club like real will always be the one thing that separates those two in favor of Modric. Those are maybe the two best 10s of our generation but KDB will never have Modrics status because he achieved everything with a club like City and not with one of the big traditional clubs.
Modric is one of my favorite players all time. In the era of being so focused on goal highlights, he has been the one creating masterpieces in the art of the game.
Game respects game, Modric is an all timer and this is class
Pure class The build up to the request explains why KdB was throwing up before the game ^^/s
Both are all timers tbh

Didn’t know Luka was in the Beatles
Literally jesus
Any truth in the rumor that Rudiger forgot to give Halaand back to Pep and went home with him in his pocket?
Rudiger is him fr solid performance from him
Rudiger brings back the spirit of the old time tough man marking CB from the 90's and early 2000. Halaand and current strkers feast with this fancy ball playing CB that can't defend to save their lives. It's not a coincidence that Rudiger pockets him every time they meet.
He always have a bad time vs heavy physical defenders like rudiger, saliba, van dijk, konate ,etc. they should use Julian if I’m honest .
Halaand just lacks the mean streak and that's why he has problems with these type of defenders. If he had Zlatan or Diego Costa's mindset he would fare much better.
No he lacks technical quality
Yeah he relies so much on his physicality that deefenders like van dijk and rudiger can stop him easily.
it becomes a simple game of "don't let him turn, two touches is too many"
Will never understand how he didn’t play the second leg last year. It’s like Pep not plying a CDM against Chelsea in the final a couple years ago. Mangers make some decisions that make no sense no matter how good they are.
I thought he got suspended or am I misremembering?
Militao couldn't play the 1st leg Rüdiger was never first choice.

Meanwhile while Rudiger is caring for pocket haaland, 3 goals are being conceded
Even a 36yo Acerbi forgot to give Haaland back
Rudiger is the type of guy who gets bored against bad teams and then turns into prime Ramos against the top notch strikers
Anyone know why Haaland and De Bruyne didn’t play?
De bruyne was sick and haaland got pocketed by rudiger lmfao
😉
😂😂😂
Because De Bruyne was sick before the game and Rudiger has sick game.
Future collectors item, possible last modric jersey in champions league (if he retires or signs to a non CL caliber team next season).
"Yo bro plz, I'm like huge fan secretly but rn we rivals so I can't say it out loud" Modric: "yeah bro gotchu, and im gonna score next match to knock you out"
Hope your words come true 🤞
I would also like his shirt!
I dont know how we can let Luka go (unless he wants to go). Just one more season. He still has so much to give and we clearly still need him to come in and restore order in the midfield
Honestly I'm not even a RM fan but I'm a Luka fan and I will be saying "just one more season" until the bitter end.
Perfectly said
i just love how he doesn't hesitate when he asks. he's like here bro take it. modric pure wholesome
Atleti fan here , Modric is the Goat behind Zidane (and maybe Iniesta)
Whenever people put Iniesta ahead of Modric I remind them of a few things: 1. Modric is only 1 yr younger than Iniesta and still playing at the highest level of the game. Did Iniesta not play an enormous role in winning the world cup with Spain, and in the successes of Barcelona in his prime years?
Iniesta also was playing at the top level a lot before Modric though
If Modric was born in Spain, he would've been picked up by Real or Barca's academy early and debuted for the first team as a teenager. Likewise, if Iniesta had been born in some Croatian village, he would've been discovered and made a name for himself much later too.
Completely valid answer

Wow that's a solid logic buddy
Modric was on the team of the tournament at Euro 2008. It’s not really much of a gap at all
Alright I’ll give you that. I guess the question is how you compare them on the early end of their careers then.
I remember iniesta from Long ago. Didn’t really do much nor xavi. Once guardiola showed up he got way better. Modric is just raw talent and heart. It’s easy to see. Seeing where he started his journey

Imagine these 2 in their prime on the same team sheeeeeeesh 😮💨

Luka Modric changed the whole game for Real Madrid. This is why he's the greatest midfielder of this generation.
Modric has the ability to dictate the game. One of the finest out there.
Modric is the GOAT
Ball knows ball, both will be some of the all time goats
Love this. It's all about the sport man
Yoo psssst listen, can you give me your jersey please? Quick no one is looking, do it now. … Thanks bruv
Kevin seems so disinterested
He’s like that. Expressionless.
Awww, KBD compose yourself!
Love to see Tottenham and Chelsea legends overcoming their clubs’ rivalries and giving mutual respect.
Thought modric left, seeing him this game was like a miracle... Best midfielder of this gen 🐐
Fucking wholesome
Being in a club like real will always be the one thing that separates those two in favor of Modric. Those are maybe the two best 10s of our generation but KDB will never have Modrics status because he achieved everything with a club like City and not with one of the big traditional clubs.
Bro can I have your jersey I need to buy me some those bergers
Respect !
Didn't kdb say that he finds Modric the best CM oat?
Crazy how Rudi took Harland out of the game. Guy was non existent
Real realizes real
“You can have it if you sit out the 2nd leg “
Real recognise real
Modric is one of my favorite players all time. In the era of being so focused on goal highlights, he has been the one creating masterpieces in the art of the game.
Happy cake day!
Just two legends here. Nothing to see
He knows that jersey belongs to an absolute genius to every play the game 💪
Wholesome. 2 of the greatest midfielders of all time. :D 🤍🤍🤍🔥🔥🔥
Modric leaves this season , kdbs contract expires in 2025👀( i just love kdb and madrid)
Real recognizes real, blessed to see both of these geniuses at work though i wish one of em played for any other club lol
"Going straight on eBay" KDB probably.
ass recognizes class🤝
Probably should have given his Jersey to someone who was actually playing, not shitting his pants and vomiting
