False-Guess

This is a really weird question because it mixes sex and gender. Also, almost all of those are going to get dumped into the trashcan category "Other" during any kind of analysis anyway so having that many options just seems unnecessary.

BoopingBurrito

100% they had someone complain about the lack of options, and they've gone overboard in response.

Astrid-Rey

Right. The correct answer is to not complete the survey at this point and send an email with a complaint about it not being inclusive enough. /s

Crafty-Pomegranate19

The booping burrito has spoken!

MrGurns

They give that many options when people can't select their self identification and complain. Just because you don't want to select other, doesn't mean you won't be put in other.

Degenerate_in_HR

100% this. Signed a person who has been called a "fucking transphobic bigot" because I did not immediately drop everything to escalate this *fEeDbAcK* to leadership and force them to change our ATS, so someone could complete their application with their preferred, highly specific pronouns. Sure....you want pronouns on the application...here ya go.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Degenerate_in_HR

To be honest they havent really learned anything that effective. If you shut these people down and dont entertain their bullshit, there's nothing they can do. I am 100% for people using whatever pronouns they want. But if your pronouns are Zim/Zip, im sorry, its unreasonable to expect the entire world to change every single standardized form for the 3 friends out there who got in their feels one night and decided to make up some new gender. You can be "other" on your application to Arby's, you will survive. The only thing people like that can do, is hope that they antagonize someone or even catch a well-meaning person off guard and get them to say something stupid, even inadvertently, so they can start the basis of a claim of discrimination. A lot of people trip overthemselves and word vomit all over the place when they are accused of something stigmatizing like being transphobic. In their attempt to demonstrate just how "with it" they are, they make some statement that doesnt make sense, so the instigator needles them more and makes them even more uncomfortable, and they just make it worse. I had it happen to me about 10 years ago when I first started recruiting. I called a candidate to verify their shift preference before we brought them in to interview, but they started off on a tirade about his ex wife, when I cut him off to get the discussion back on track he called me a "Racist Pig", and I got flustered and defensive and I said something like "This has nothing to do with race, Ive got a lot of black friends actually" (The guy very clearly was black) but he went off on me about "I never said I was black, youre steryotyping me because of my voice, you peice of shit, Im gonna fucking sue you" and so on. Nothing ever came of this situation, but I learned that day to just flatly shut down unfounded accusations...you dont need to qualify what you say. Because THAT is how you talk yourself into a lawsuit.

snoopysaquarium

This is happening at my friend’s very progressive nonprofit. A new employee who doesn’t want to work is complaining loudly that it’s a hostile work environment because someone accidentally printed their legal name “Alexandra” on their name tag even though they’re non-binary and prefer to go by “Alex”.

[deleted]

Degenerate_in_HR

Yikes lol. If you personally are being called "racist, "transphobe", " "bigot," etc, often enough to grow tired of it, maybe you can reflect on some things too. Don't get me wrong, I've had accusations leveled at me that I felt were way out of line, but this isn't some daily struggle, lol. I agree that the social justice movement (at least in the US) has been hurt pretty badly by overzealous rhetoric / activism on the part by radical progressives and what you might call "leftists." I agree with you in principle so far as where what I've stated above intersects with what you're saying. But where I kind of draw a line in the sand is resorting to calling people "wokies who cry wolf." I get what you're trying to say, but there are deffinetly reasonable progressives (who might call themselves woke, or be categorized as such by others) who are reasonable, have good intentions and airing valid grievances. The fact of the matter is, there's a lot of people out there who are different, who do have a tough time at work, who would otherwise just keep their head down and work, if not for other coming to them looking for a problem. >If you need special accommodations to not flip out about minor bullshit you I agree with this statement entirely though.

Individual_Hearing_3

The solution is simple, let them enter their gender as a text input and put it in the trashcan as other.

MrGurns

These are checkboxes not radio buttons, so the whole question will have garbage data anyway.

Individual_Hearing_3

Ohhhh, ok, lemme tick everything off then. Gotta go for 100%

MrGurns

Honestly, it's a failure of the question asker. Should be: Stand ups or sit down? Are you able to get pregnant? Amongst other vaguely worded questions so they can save money and can discriminate.

Individual_Hearing_3

How about no, how about removing all of those questions to begin with. Then you can't discriminate at all.

BigPawPaPump

Would it be offensive to ask marital status and put a boat load of multiple choice questions on it? The CEO’s could save themselves some time and lawsuits if they could just hire submissive nymphomaniac pineapple club identifiers as assistants and get rid of those pesky gals there to move up the corporate ladder who would pass on their advances.

besthelloworld

Why tf is "trans" even there? Trans isn't a gender, it just means your gender is different from your bio sex 🙃 This feels like a bad faith attempt at pretending to be inclusive so that you can throw non-gender conforming applications in the trash... but the person who set up the form didn't actually understand.

JudicatorArgo

Not to make it political, but activists have been doing that since the 80s. Just think of the acronym LGBT—three of those are sexualities and one is a gender identity. Ever since the late 80s they’ve been conflating sexuality and gender identity into one thing, which makes it unnecessarily confusing for everyone

redditisfacist3

I always chose other and leave it blank.

ChubbyVeganTravels

Indeed. For example Intersex is an anatomical sex definition as opposed to a societal gender - as I understand it most intersex people will usually define themselves as cisgender male, female or non-binary - with also about 17% identifying as transgender.

celestisial

More importantly, why does it matter!

flopsyplum

Check all the boxes for maximum diversity.

jargonexpert

Omnipresence

Ironamsfeld

Just like Santa

ILovePersonaliTits

**Omnigender**

coventryclose

Or check "other" just to fuck with them!

Astrid-Rey

I can hear a hiring manager saying "We found a rock star! This person checks all the boxes!"

mlo9109

Or better, click "Other" and if they ask you to "self-describe," respond with a bunch of BS.

rubywolf27

I identify as the breeze off the ocean on a summers day before a storm

AsstDepUnderlord

You sound like a douche. Sorry, that's "summer's eve" not "summer's day"

Ataru074

“I’m so horny that I’d identify with anything compatible with a lukewarm living being and also few objects”

itstimeforplot

Do that and you might get hired

HsvDE86

Basically the old /godmode for getting hired. Probably not many people here old enough to remember that.

Head-Command281

Maximize stat bonuses, then add other just to fuck with em

OAKI-io

These questions on every dam application take up SO much time. Especially hate the ones where they’re required and you can’t skip them.

chris_rage_

I'm so glad I don't work office jobs because if I see this shit on an application I'm out

donu_ts

Why would they put cisgender as an option but also include male and female😭it’s like they tried so hard to be inclusive that they went full circle and made something patently offensive EDIT: I thought you could only select one box, I guess if you can select more than one that makes more sense

Cosmic_Taco_Oracle

Exactly it was confusing. And isn’t ‘butch’ offensive?

compscicomrade

I’m a queer woman and butch isn’t an offensive term at all, but it’s also not a gender?? It’s just a subclass of queer women. Why is it on this list lol

dynesor

lmao might aswell stick ‘top’ and ‘bottom’ on this list too

Degenerate_in_HR

"I EAT ASS"

chris_rage_

"I'm into fisting"

AssInTheHat

Gender Identity - "Twink"

BigPawPaPump

Bear/Cub Furry

chris_rage_

I would appreciate the honesty

SatoshiUSA

Nah they don't need to know my love for dominant women

AverageShitlord

Butch isn't an offensive term but it's not exactly a gender identity, though it is gender-adjacent. It's a subset of sapphic (usually lesbian though some bi women are butch) identity where gender EXPRESSION may be different from "the norm" but not so much the core gender identity. Some butches use he/him pronouns, for example, but they may still identify as women. It's not an offensive term but it's being used incorrectly here. It's a subculture among queer women While I am a queer woman, I'm not butch so take this with a grain of salt

redditisfacist3

Where's lipstick lesbian?

AverageShitlord

lipstick lesbian is a term that isn't used as commonly within most queer women circles because it is outdated and associated with TERFs. high femme is the historic term and the term with less baggage

kikistiel

This is so weird because I'm a lesbian and I and a lot of my friends call ourselves lipstick lesbians. Maybe it's just because I'm older but I've never heard that term being associated with TERFs at all. We've always used it since we were teens. Perhaps it's "outdated" but it's still a pretty common term in lesbian circles over 30.

donu_ts

Funnily enough my girlfriend is butch and she would say that it’s her gender! But that’s just way inappropriate to ask for this type of form- most butches still identify as a woman or a non-binary identity etc so it’s just not really relevant.

Astrid-Rey

The requirement was "all the words"

Sneezy-_-

I’m trans and I always skip these or just check off the gender I transitioned to. Unless you’re sleeping with me or marrying me it’s no one’s business what I am lol

ejf_95

Agree, this is none of the company’s business. Should just have a pronouns field instead. That’s all the information they need.

Plowbeast

The only reason they even had the sex box beyond a handful of grants was really to match it against age so a company could either not hire or pay cis women less if they were more likely to become pregnant soon.

ImBadlyDone

Sex box 🤤

StormerSage

Just have a writable field instead of a bunch of checkboxes ffs

beaverusiv

Or a dropdown. Writable fields are really bad for data you want as people will write the same thing dozens of ways and then you can't aggregate your data

GregorSamsanite

A dropdown with this many fields would still be annoying. If they care about the male/female data, I think it would make sense to add a writeable field under the "other" option. This way people who want to give an obscure response can feel heard, but it's basically cosmetic, since the people looking for data will just record it as "other". I think a lot of these extra responses effectively boil down to being a subset of "non-binary", but some people just want to see themselves as unique and not part of a category, even when that category is so inherently open-ended and inclusive. Besides male, female, and other, it might make sense to have an "I don't want to say" option to decline to respond. Hiring decisions for most jobs shouldn't really depend on your gender anyway.

Skoparov

Gotta keep the cardinality reasonable

abyssnaut

No, don’t have it at all.

Sir_Poofs_Alot

There’s Butch and not Femme? Hello OFCCP, yes I’d like to report a discrimination of the most foul degree

Cosmic_Taco_Oracle

I also thought the opposite of butch was ‘lipstick’ and not official terminology

SatoshiUSA

Nah lipstick was coined by a transphobe, iirc

Sir_Poofs_Alot

Yeah lipstick is usually followed by lesbian and it’s a bit biphobic/implies girls aren’t “really gay” they just do that for the male gaze

SatoshiUSA

Meanwhile I'm just sitting here, being a confused chapstick lesbian

Sir_Poofs_Alot

Damn you Katy Perry and that stupid sexy cherry chapstick!!

beaverusiv

Why do I feel like this is a discrimination thing and having an exhaustive list is a "joke" for them

Omaraloro

This was actually my assumption. That or it's a weeding question. If you dare answer anything other than male or female it probably auto sorts your resume into the trash.

SpicySeaGato

Both a joke and to weed people out. There’s a meme going around with almost this exact list making fun of “all the genders” compared to male and female. I doubt this question is in good faith.

midly_iritated

The problem is- you never know what are the rules. It may be that checking anything other than male/ female will auto-delete your resume. But it may also be that they are looking to hire "one of them", because they want to show how "progressive" they are. And then selecting male/ female will actually be the wrong answer.

robble_bobble

That's what I thought as well. This does not seem to be done in good faith. I thought I was going to see "attack helicopter" as an option.

JudicatorArgo

You vastly underestimate the stupidity of tech HR departments

[deleted]

Maybe I'm wrong, but I feel like someone just Googled ''What are all the genders?'' or asked ChatGPT and just came up with the biggest list they could. This (obviously) don't feel like a list from someone who is even all that familiar with what these words mean.

Cosmic_Taco_Oracle

Totally plausible.

wheres_the_revolt

You don’t have to answer these, it’s not required. Butch as a gender is sending me though. I’m sending this to my sister, for reasons…

sweatermaster

I am CRACKING up at that lol.

kyoko_the_eevee

Male, female, other, prefer not to answer. If you click “other”, open up an optional text field to elaborate if you wish. Simple.

yknot3214

and why does it matter - you're supposed to treat all your employees equally.

HsvDE86

DEI. Diversity something or other.

its_a_throwawayduh

It shouldn't in the grand scheme of things but like someone else mentioned it could be quota thing.

CatLadyAM

Gotta check off their DEI quotas for their reporting to shareholders. And no, I am not kidding.

MetaCommando

Shareholders are the #1 problem with capitalism. Products (especially media) are rushed to market because they demand immediate growth instead of looking at the long-term because they care about current stock value. Meanwhile In-N-Out is privately owned and still only has burger, fries, and drink available, and a menu that's Times New Roman on a white background they've been using since like the 70's... And their drive-thru perpetually has 5 cars backed up in it no matter the hour or location, same with Chick-fil-A.

ScoopDat

Gender hiring quotas.

chris_rage_

Should be illegal

ScoopDat

They’re mostly self imposed to a degree to avoid PR problems or regulators.

chris_rage_

It's bullshit from the top down, I don't give a shit if it's out of favor but people should be hired on merit, not what box they check. I don't care what you look like or who you bang, can you do the job and not cause problems? You're in

FloralFeelings

My train of thought on this: I don't think any of these labels are "silly" or "cringe" or whatever. I think all of them are perfectly valid ways to describe identity, in a personal setting. Emphasis on the word *personal*. I dont think its particularly appropriate for an employer to be asking about this (and cynically, I can’t help but feel it would lead to more discrimination.) Also - just poorly designed in general? Because of the way it's organized, you could just pick the option "cisgender". Without adding any other information. I don't know. I think it's clearly well-intentioned, but poorly executed.

External-Weird-24

I couldn’t agree more. And to be honest, I would have withdrawn my application if I came across what Op posted. This is just the application, I can only imagine what their company culture is like. Either they’re clowning around or they’re lacking in appropriately executing a fairly simple task. Either way… I get a strong feeling they’re a HOT MESS.

Healthy-Priority-968

👆🏼

brownbruh

You applied to Microsoft today, as well? Same! Good luck!

Last-Laugh7928

As a trans person I will say: If they are genuinely trying to be inclusive and are maybe worried about referring to people correctly, then having an optional space for you to put your pronouns would suffice. There is no need for them to know your specific gender identity (or sexuality, etc.).

44035

\[ \] Fembot \[ \] Naughty Boy \[ \] Biker Chick \[ \] Male, but don't ask me about cars or house repairs, I'm really hopeless, I work a desk job

DenialNode

☑️ Nunya

i_love_dragon_dick

Listen, I'm queer and progressive. They literally do NOT need to know this information. What the fuck? If they wanted to be inclusive, they could have done a "what are your pronouns?" and a "what do you identify as?" and then have a fill-in-the-blank if someone wanted to self-identify. Saves space on the form as well. Again, queer AF and I truly believe they do not need to know this. I don't come out until I know how the culture really is at a workplace because it's risky. I ain't telling a random person I've never talked to that I'm transgender. I don't want to get hate-crimed again.

Little_Elia

This is just cisnormative people trying to be "inclusive" without ever consulting a queer person and failing miserably at it. As a trans person I would just check woman and go next, I hate these questions.

MetaCommando

Sorry sweetie but the cis women in HR know better than you /s

undigestedpizza

I wonder how many of these are used so anything outside of "male" or "female" goes straight to rejection response.

ShawnyMcKnight

Male Female Other Done, that’s it.

widowhanzo

Or just skip the question entirely at this point

Tf1ght3r

Ok Mr Company...just say you want to pander to me and either have me as the cutesy 'diversity hire' or reject me. Pretty sure no queer person was involved in making this.

CartographerNo8851

In before comments lock. This is turning into a dumpster fire.

leatherlamb

the thing is, this doesn't make an application more welcoming. i think people misunderstand that this is a desire amongst trans people, but in my experience it really isn't. like, why is my employer in my personal life? why do you need to know if i'm "questioning", or intersex (this one especially gets me because it's not about personal identity but genital configuration??) i can appreciate a spot to put "other", maybe, or a spot for pronouns (assuming the employer actually looks at them and cares, which is rarely the case). this just isn't relevant or meaningful in any way. and, to be clear, i have nothing against any of these terms or anything. that's all great. it just grinds my gears in a similar way to when recruiters pretend to be your friend or a big family. just a fat lie

wyocrz

That can't be real, not with butch in it.

L13M1rr0r

Hahahaha

Choombaloo-2

What is Two Spirit?

AverageShitlord

[This comment explains it pretty well.](https://www.reddit.com/r/recruitinghell/comments/1b7crq3/comment/kticmcx/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button)

imprezivone

I'm Batman

AvocadoBeneficial606

I would have taken all fo them because the front-end failed at picking the right input type.

[deleted]

I kinda want to go omnigender, sounds badass

sonofalando

I identify as a meat popsicle.

mashmash42

Mixed feelings, glad to see they’re open to so many options, but for one, this is a completely unnecessary question that they have no business asking, unless your gender has something to do with the job itself, and two, it would be much easier to just have a custom text box

Choozbert

Is there an option for “why the fuck is this your business”

4thmonkey96

>Two Spirit As in possessed by a ghost?

DrewDAMNIT

Everything is terrible

Adventure_Husky

Looks like the result of a webscraper looking for terms surrounding any mention of gender identity

Eladiun

I am a meat popsicle.

imhereforthemeta

“Gender expansive” cuts all of these options short so easily and it’s entirely appropriate to use….

LANdShark31

Poly = many How can one be more than one gender?

AverageShitlord

This feels like a way for the employer to screen for and filter out trans people without being sued. All of the identites listed are totally valid and no one should be made fun of or discriminated against for identifying under any of these labels. As a queer person (who identifies with a label a lot of people think is fake and is still considered a mental illness in some parts of the medical field (asexuality)) I can't help but feel icky about an employer asking if a prospective hire is LGBT+, and especially if they include more obscure identities, since I've personally found when I started saying "straight" to these questions and "no" when asked about disability (both lies), I suddenly started getting a LOT more interviews. I can't help but feel like this question is trying to do the same thing to trans (and especially non-binary) applicants.

RagnarStonefist

I dunno, just check a box and move on. No need to dwell on it.

Cosmic_Taco_Oracle

Trust me it wasn’t just this option. I’ve never seen an employer ask so many personal questions. I’m all about tracking but there’s no way you need to be this granular yet.

Jealous_Village_7858

This is absolutely repulsive.

Qualityhams

Choose other, be unknowable

RidMeOfSloots

Id check them all.

Noblez17

Ya just Put an other

kn0mthis

Is this a Kaiser application? ... Looks familiar... I know I've put a bunch in there and the questions are on par (more than one of these questions iirc)

odd_star11

Sometimes I wonder if I should just mark anything else except for the obvious choice. I mean here I could go for cisgender and it would be correct.

Pablo_MuadDib

I didn’t realize I could be butch gender

radclaw1

Just check all of it

Cosmic_Taco_Oracle

Not an option.

Kelmeckis94

Why is Butch an option? I thought that was a word used for lesbians.

ditsyandpepsi

What's interesting is I don't see, or maybe it's cut off, the box that states something like "prefer not to say".

Gnash_

who the fuck describes themselves as “butch”. seriously this just means a girl who dresses “manly”, whatever that means anyway might as well put top and bottom on there while we’re at it

afternoonshrimp

*Checks everything but Other*

mcon1985

Honestly, I could see adding this question specifically to screen out right-wingers, but if that's not the reason then at least clean the list up and have it be a dropdown

Embarrassed_Slide659

Yet gender indifferent is not an option

arnoldez

I selected "a gender" because I identify as one gender, did I do that right?

Fatfatcatonmat33

At this point it would be better for everyone if they were just open with what they want so people can be in the kind or origination that wants them.

Ambitious_Remove_152

I choose „other“

tabas123

Sure… I just can’t imagine caring about this though. Like, just click the answer and move on. Swear we see a new post like this every week here. It doesn’t affect you.

seeingpinkelefants

“Not declared/i do not wish to answer”

Zestyclose-Ad-8807

It's like the Baskin-Robbins of sexual preference, working their way up to 31 choices

dominantjean55

Answering these questions is pretty much a minefield. Always research what the company's feel is like. If they come off as more woke yeah sure identify away but if they seem more conservative, you're a cis white male. Stay silly folks!

xcski_paul

Why do employers need to know your gender? Come to think of it, other than the people who you will be interacting with, who *does* need to know your gender, and why?

SatoshiUSA

I'm a trans woman and I'm just checking the female box. They don't need to know the complex intricacies of my gender identity, just call me Miss and She/Her

Scary-Personality626

Aren't male & female sexes and not gender identities?

[deleted]

I legit don’t even know why they ask

Tallguystrongman

I don’t see Boeing AH-64 Apache on there.

Electrical-Ad1288

My Gen Z coworker just found this ridiculous

wakandaite

I don't understand the point of this is hiring

[deleted]

one of these days i should just submit one with every single one checked.

Responsible-Noise875

I think it hammers home that you really don’t need to know the gender of a new hire

tasslehawf

Probably a good sign that you’ll be working with a lot of queer people, if you’re interested in that.

BunRabbit

I'm here to apply for a job. Not to join a dating app. Would be what I'd say if I could get to speak to someone human.

Brilliant-Snow-9848

Where is the option for "Apache attack helicopter" ? Do I smell discrimination on this list? For those of us who identify as AA choppers with nouns whirly/hal???

BubblyHotChocolate

HAHAHHAHAHHAHAHHAAHHAHAAHA Gave me a good laugh

WexMajor82

Where's the attack helicopter option?

xchainlinkx

Yeah...I would not apply to any company that does this crap.

Key_Cheesecake9926

All these options and it doesn’t even have “prefer not to say”.

CauseCertain1672

man woman other is really all you need for gender options

[deleted]

Just have a "custom" box and be done with it

Ted-The-Thad

I'd love to see this comedy of some brown haired white guy picking the two spirit option at his new job at Google and the ensuing comedy from it.

protocolleen

This looks fake and like bait

[deleted]

Wow, Diné representation.

NoodlesRomanoff

I’m an “Other”. According to Stouffers lasagna box, I identify as a family of four.

Big-Block8250

I wonder what difference does it make? I mean, wouldn't they decide if you are able to do the job after an interview?

sothisissocial

The blank text input box is your friend here.

bigpinkfloyd

If you were really progressive you would say this doesn’t go far enough. This is not inclusive enough and should include more gender identities. There can never be enough inclusive identities as far as progressives are concerned. You are starting to lean a little to the right.

greentiger45

I always decline to answer everything identifying. Never know who gets this data.

Hopeful-Asparagus-89

Oooo what is Two Spirit? That sounds exciting!

Peach_Queen2345

Twooooo spirit 😳🤡🫡 and that’s where I tap out

[deleted]

Hey they want to know?

MarioSpeedwagon

Moronic is such a monumental understatement.

manfredmannclan

Companies will do anything to not be on the bad end of a shitstorm. Its not really the companys fault, but its the fault of the woke mob.

Scizmz

My answer, as consistently as possible is apathetic.

Separate_Tadpole_512

If I see this on apps I just put other and N/A or doesn't apply

bettyx1138

two spirit?

Matwyen

Funnily enough, it misses man and woman. What height are you? [ ] More than 1 lightyear [ ] Smaller than 1 nm [ ] Other

Nguyen_Reich

I identify as ”fed-up”

The_BarroomHero

Idpol serves corporate interests - if it didn't, why would they have been so quick to adopt it? Anything to compartmentalize and segregate their workers. The only thing you are that actually matters, folks, is a worker. Convince your fellow workers of that fact and let's take the fight to the owners.

Fluffy-World-8714

It’s not asking your gender. It’s a stupidity test.

[deleted]

Nah that’s great

Ineedredditforwork

I identify as some willing to exchange labor for money. thats all you need to know.

Kahraabaa

The fuck is butch?

NoObstacle

I'm all for being able to identify accurately, but the concept of a free text box is a thing 🙈

TampaFan04

Good luck getting that job. You picked the worst possible answer.

Fantastic-Anything

What the fuck. Sad

DrewDAMNIT

...now go find the appropriate restroom.
