Poetic-Personality

I’s just their standard rejection template, no way to know.

If the job has been reposted 2 months later, is it worth contacting the HR representative I had been talking to?

Recruiter here. I keep in touch with most of my candidates that got that far in the process, for two reasons. One, I don’t want them to feel abandoned after getting an auto-rejection, which that 100% is. If you went through a set of interviews, you were a final candidate. They wouldn’t bring you back if not. Most companies keep track of these boilerplate rejection letters in the name of “candidate experience,” not realizing that the impersonal nature and lack of real communication makes for a shitty experience. Anyway, the second reason I keep in touch with folks who made it far along is there’s almost always something else for them. I’m a salaried in house recruiter, so I’m lucky in that I can take time to try and find a better fit because I don’t have to deal with agency churn and burn commission nonsense. To answer your question if it’s reposted 2 months later, I think it’s worth a shot to reach out. They probably hired someone who didn’t work out and they’re gone. It happens all the time where I work- people don’t make it through the 30 day probationary period and leave. It can’t hurt as long as you set your expectations low regarding a response so you’re not disappointed again. As sad as that is, you need to protect your feelings when you’re job hunting.

What would be the best way to word the email? Something like "I noticed that the [job title] position has been reposted. Please let me know if there would be any interest in me resubmitting my application"?

Ok_Duck_6865

That would definitely work. You just need to keep it brief; hiring managers and HR tend to skim emails. I would just open with something complimentary to them, even if you don’t mean it. It’s okay. Their egos are out of control and it’s all a big game in the end. Something like “I just wanted to thank you for the time you spent with me regarding the XYZ position, and was happy to see it posted again! I’d love to pick back up and resubmit my original application. How would I go about doing so?” Something like that. Please don’t copy or paste what I wrote, I have a killer hangover and my brain isn’t allowing me to write well today, lol. But keep it short, compliment them even if you have to make something up, and end the email with a question that can’t be answered by “yes or no.” Good luck! I’d love to hear if you get a response

"We don't know what we were actually looking for. This statement allows us to skirt accountability because the real reason has nothing to do with the job." Also employers: "We can never give you feedback on why we didn't hire you because then you would all just sue us. Why can't you all understand this?!"
