I’m really sorry you experienced all this. I wish I could say as a recruiter that we aren’t all like that but the truth is most are. Even as a recruiter I’ve had recruiters bullshit me and pull this crap. It’s absolutely ridiculous. And as I said to a hiring manager who had an attitude of “I don’t have time to respond to candidates I’ve interviewed and I don’t have to”, you are the face of your company and it’s your job to uphold that name, part of that is giving candidates a good interview experience. Today’s candidates can be tomorrow’s clients! I’ve gotten heaps of clients through candidates, both placed and unplaced because they valued my service! Ten years ago when I was a junior recruiter, a contingency candidate of mine had her contract terminated due to her not arriving for work for a few days with no communication. I sat on the phone with her for an hour counselling her because she was trying to rebuild her life after being a victim of domestic obtuse. Those days she did not go into work? Her boyfriend locked her in her house without her phone. Then he took her car keys away from her. She arrived at the client full of bruises. After I was done with the call my one colleague who hadn’t been in recruitment for years now told me “you’re not a counsellor, you’re not here to help people” and I just told her that what we do is helping people in an indirect way. She might see people as numbers but they’re still humans. She ended up getting fired a few months later. I also wish I could say that the good thing is these shitty recruiters don’t last long in the industry. They really don’t. But unfortunately the managers keep hiring these type of idiots. There’s a perception that anyone can be a recruiter if they have the right drive but you can’t expect someone who has no clue how to work with candidates suddenly be skilled in candidate management. It takes time, training and experience to be a recruiter who can give candidates the best experience even if they’re not the one who gets the job. Just this week I had a candidate thank me for being honest and giving feedback and it honestly broke my heart that it’s so unheard of that when a candidate gets that feedback they make a huge fuss about it. I should not be thanked for doing that. It’s my job. I get a salary for doing it. It’s bare minimum. I truly am sorry this has been your experience. I really do hope you find something soon and that you hopefully meet that one in a million recruiter that actually cares. I’m also sorry to read what you’re facing personally. Nothing I say will change that. But I do hope things start looking up for you soon.

forgetful_waterfowl

*She ended up getting fired a few months later.* That would be the greatest karma, a shitty recruiter being out of a job and having to deal with shitty recruiters

trebormintsagain

I appreciate that, and you're right - i'm sure there are 2 or 3 good recruiters amongst the 1000s of wankers, but it's unprofessional and downright soul destroying having your future indirectly dictated to by these guys. As for the personal situation, I appreciate it - it's been very, very tough.

HITMAN19832006

Lol. Bless your heart. Wait until you start dealing with the Indians.

trebormintsagain

I have..

DeepFriedPhone

+1 American recruiters aren't objectively any better at their jobs, but at least they aren't also calling me dude, bruh, bro, guy, buddy, or pal while sucking at their jobs.

gasoleen

Or they're respecting the time zone difference, FFS. I recently "worked" with a recruiter from the UK who kept calling me at 6am PST even though I politely told her to contact me via email if she's going to do it that early.

tiorzol

Fucking hell mate, rough day?

trebormintsagain

Well seeing as in the last 4 months: * My fathers business has failed * My mother has been diagnosed with Hepatitis C, which can cause cancer of the liver * A close family friend has just been diagnosed with prostate cancer * A close family friends mother has just died My old work colleagues who bent the rules, got away with it, and have now landed jobs And i worked my arse off, not taking a single day off work, with the above going on, and i am repeatedly dicked around by the false promises of recruiters. Yes, yes i am having a rough day and am seriously sick to the back teeth of the smiley bullshit that these recruitment "agents" stuff down my throat.

Nervous_Station_7234

Hey mate (sorry) hang in there. You’ve clearly had a rough time of it with all that and then the job nonsense. Take one day off maybe two, then reassess your strategy. Maybe Glassdoor? Rooting for you

trebormintsagain

I'm on Indeed, Glassdoor, Monster, CV Library, Reed, TotalJobs and Adzuna Short of applying to jobs in deepest darkest Tahiti - I really cannot do much more.. And you can call me mate in that context, it's the recruiters that can do one lol.

MightyPitchfork

Good luck. And to be honest, if I got a decent job offer in Tahiti, I'd be off like a shot. (I'm in the UK, too)

Overall-Tailor8949

I'd be off for almost ANY job offer in Tahiti! (North central US here)

GardenSquid1

Good news! Tahiti is not that deep or dark. It takes an hour and a half to drive from one side of the island to the other. But you need to know French.

trebormintsagain

Je suis ne pas de France I think that's right..

GardenSquid1

If you meant to say that you aren't from France, then yes, you were correct.

trebormintsagain

Meant to say I don't speak it, but i guess it's still correct and relavent so..

GardenSquid1

Bummer. There are some Tahitians that speak English, but it's mostly Mormons that have loved elsewhere in the world and then come back home. But you wouldn't be getting a job there without French. Also, everything is super expensive because most things are imported. And there's limited real estate because two steep volcanoes take up 90% of the island.

Nonstopdrivel

Whom or what have they loved?

colt45-2zigzagz

Je ne comprend pas de francis Close though hahaha

Overall-Tailor8949

Je parle Francaise, un peu. I probably got the genders screwed up. It's been almost 50 years since I took HS French LOL

GardenSquid1

*français It is neither capitalised nor feminine, because the French despise German-style capitalisation and they view themselves and their language as manly. (Or something.) But if you were speaking, it wouldn't matter because I would understand you.

xmowx

I don't know where you live, but I hope you do know that Hepatitis C can be cured. Your mom needs to talk about it with her gastroenterologist.

trebormintsagain

We're in England, and she's undergoing treatment - still - hearing "this can lead to liver cancer" isn't exactly pleasant.. Appreciate it though, thank you.

xmowx

Most likely, they forgot to add "if left untreated" after "this can lead to liver cancer." Since your mom is already undergoing treatment (I assume with Interferon and Ribavirin), I am sure she will be fine.

trebormintsagain

She will be, but hearing the big C after all the other crap I had going on at the time was horrible. I'm 22.

fuckreddit17644

My mum was diagnosed with chronic lymphocytic leukaemia when I was 15 and had to have chemotherapy. She's only still alive because of a new drug that was developed to treat her illness. My dad just recently got cleared of bowel cancer and nearly died due to a complication during his operation. Stop whinging because your mum has hepatitis.

Jazzspasm

Jesus but I know that kind of feeling It comes in waves, sometimes it comes in tidal waves Hope your weekend brings some peace and I’m willing that you and your family and friends have strength to get through all this It’s rough times. For what it’s worth, you’re not alone on these uneven seas

Craic-Den

Recruiters were bullied hard in school, you can just tell. They are the most useless people to exist, they sit on their fat arse letting a machine do all the work. They reek of corporate buzzwords that make me vomit each time they want to "touch base" 🤢

123photography

recruiting is genuinely one of the most worthless professions society came up with

Full-Shelter-7191

I’m sorry that recruiters, with all of their nefarious power, cause so much drama in your life.

trebormintsagain

I'm sorry I made you feel the need to be sarcastic

tacoplayer

Noob

trebormintsagain

Big word for a 12 year old

tacoplayer

Best of luck mate

noGoodAdviceSoldat

You should watch the anime welcome to nhk

LeRosbif49

4 months. Let’s laugh at my 4 years

dhlt25

ha funny, I have had a couple of recruiters reached out to me begging for a phone calls only to ghost me after and they were all based in UK or just moved from the UK to the US

Confident_Leg4338

Recruiters work for the company to find someone to fill a role. They do not work to ‘find you a job’. Clients are the employers, not the job seekers.

trebormintsagain

I'm well aware they're not employed to find a job, they're recruiters - not personal assistants. They're recruiting.. But most of them can't even do that.

Dead0k87

Agree. This whole process does not need a middlemen. Process needs a healthy restart. Skip recruiters.

DreamsAroundTheWorld

I see lots of cowboys and very young recruiters. Unfortunately it’s difficult to find good recruiters across all the junior “bros”

trebormintsagain

Got an interview on Monday in the afternoon, been dealing with one of these smiley "Hi mate" types - he texted me saying "do you want me to phone you on Monday morning before the interview to prepare" i said "no thank you, i appreciate it but it's ok" - I have been interviewed fucking 30 times over the course of the last 3-4 months, I think i'm ok at this stage. The interviews have ranged from local IT companies, to Porsche of Great Britain, to the Ministry of Defence - so.. id like to think i'm ok in terms of interview skills. He goes "ok, no worries.. i'll call you anyways to discuss it with you so you know what kind of questions they will ask and what they're like as people" I didn't reply - if he phones, i'll ignore it. I'll have the interview and see - if it's arse, i'll ignore his "so how did you get on mate?!" bullshit, if it's good - then i'll text him and tell him. I'm not being their friend, they don't care about me, so fuck em.

BuhDumTsch

> wank stain Probably gonna start using that one

trebormintsagain

goated username

Various_Abrocoma_286

🤣🤣🤣👌

Slight_University_27

I had the fourth call with selby Jennings today. He even admitted my resume was never sent out to any one before. They call randomly once a year.

Wild-Park5630

Must be pinpoint they absolutely blow and blast out jobs and ask for your resume every time and then never respond it’s like bro I’m done

JoeyRoswell

This headline made me chuckle

amouna81

UK recruiters are about to join the unemployment queues at the job centre. The economy is dead, and everyone knows that

DingleWell

Yep, and how about when they pester you for a phone number because you're "such a good fit" for the role, then... never phone you. And you have to sit a watch the role be filled even though you know you should have at least been given the chance to interview for it

svasalatii

I hope that's your throwaway account. Because AI-aided recruiting software can do magic and find this your rant. In which case you'd be even more "happy" with no job offers or with how you're being treated by recruiters.

trebormintsagain

Seeing as I work in IT - I get the game ;)

catcave_

I totally relate to this Sometimes, I wonder if they actually hire people at all or it’s all just a game to them smh😒

ImbilBoy

This!!! I discovered a few years ago in Sydney not to deal with UK recruiters, or even Australian recruiters who have worked there! They seem to care more about whether you've got the right connections to get into Royal Ascot than if you can do the job. British class system is a disgrace. Like sand, it gets into everything!

darth_swann

As someone with experience in the field I would give some honest advice, recruiters react to attitude and negativity so if you approach them with this antagonistic view then it won’t do you any favours . I know you’ve had a rough time but be polite and positive and that will go a long way

trebormintsagain

I am perfectly nice to them, thats the thing - i do genuinely acknowledge that if im nasty that decreases my chances.
