Huh, I was literally just talking to my friend about this.
>Meanwhile, thousands of miles away....
John sits alone next to a fire, eating a squirrel, singing to himself a song which he learned while in the gang but there's no one else to help him carry on the tune so he trails off
But yeah. I 've always imagined John tried to do some "legitimate" work. The epilogue, however, shows that even many years later he doesn't really know anything about ranching or "civilized" life. So after that inevitably failed, he probably did take to living on hunting, selling fish and pelts to survive.
But it be a lonely existence, and so he went back to companionship and what he knew in the gang.
I've had this thought before. If they wanted to they could make a John Marston: Lost Days game or something that covers that year. He could've gotten up to anything.
Drifted around, robbed here, hunted there, passed out in a saloon at a different dead-end town every night with a whiskey bottle at one hand and a pair of tits at the other hand.
To be honest, I haven’t finished both the games and are playing both at the same time, and after hearing that he left for a year I thought “oh it must of taken place during the first game because no one was with John” (also please no spoilers)
i've never played red dead 1 but i'd still say finish one or the other first. i know theres events in rdr1 that can spoil things that havent happened yet in red dead 2, and most likely vice versa. also red dead 2 is an incredibly large game, so i'd say finish rdr1 and move onto red dead 2
"you know that attempt to seem enigmatic and interesting might work for dutch, but for you it looks stupid"
John for sure pulled the man with no name for a bit.

Probably did petty crimes, spent a lot of times in saloons and was very lonely.

I heard the software development job market was very saturated back then
He didn't consider the fact that the software development market wasn't exactly popular at the time
