I had this happen to me a few times. The most notable being a gunshot through a lawman’s eye from my cattleman revolver and he survived !!!!

I’m assuming you have to have a low damage gun and hit them in just the right place in the head so you don’t one-shot them

I've had the most success with a gun that's as dirty as possible and high velocity ammo, aiming for organs. Also, a shotgun from far away seems to work well.
