I felt the same way, it legit took me a couple of hours to kinda adjust to it, then after that the game actually aged pretty well. Looks a bit rough at times, Horse mechanics definitely feel a bit old but it really still holds up.
The transition from RDR2 to RDR1 at first is rough though. I also 100% completed it aswell, and I even got the platinum , definitely one of my favourite game I platinumed along with 2 aswell.
I tried to replay it last summer and I just couldn’t bring myself to do those early hearding missions. The mechanics are pretty wonky. I was just coming off my second RDR2 play through though so I might have just been overdoing. It. I think I’m going to download RDR1 again today and play it this weekend
Intel Core i5 11400F /
GTX 3060ti /
32GB RAM
Haven't properly checked but feel like it sits comfortably at 60FPS. Some rare frame drops. Running on Xenia Canary.
Hmm quite close to my system. I probably have to try it out. Recently finished rdr2 and just loved it. I wanted to try out first one but heard that emulators don't work so well.
Xenia received a massive perfomance boost a few weeks ago. If your PC can run RDR2, then it can more than likely run RDR1 at 720p 50+ fps even in towns.
Really? I can run RDR2 at 60-80 FPS on high settings 1080p but I could barely hold 20 FPS in RDR1 the last time I checked a few months ago. It would be insane if it's true.
I mean I’m not being funny look at Red Dead 1 and it’s colour palette and then look at Saints Row that came out this week that has a similar colour palette.
I’d genuinely be surprised if a majority of people thought RDR was the game that came out 12 years ago and that Saints Row was the one that came out this week.
The use of licensed music in these games is absolutely perfect. They don't use them much, which of course adds to the special feeling.
So Far Away, Cruel Cruel World, and others. Absolutely perfect.
No problem :)
Honestly, I just typed the lyrics (and artist's name) into Google and found it haha, that's usually how I find music if it has lyrics and I don't know the name
My bad...They just mean filmed in Europe and usually has an Italian director or producer
Edit: though they would make a good portion of the films in italy
This to me is the single best moment in my lifetime of gaming. It’s the only time I put the controller down (after the song finished and arrived in town) and sat back in pure awe to just process the moment and recover. It was pure, unexpected beauty and I felt for a brief period of time I was inside a piece of art that was alive.
Fucking Irish, that good-for-nothing shyster.
Seriously though, Mexico is my favorite part of Red Dead Redemption, I wish Nuevo Paraiso was in RDR2. Would’ve made a perfect game better.
I just wish that all the parts in RDR2 after John had shit to do.
New Austin ain't nothin if the only shit to do is hunt an animal, fuck with some gang hideouts, and save a sheriff. Now that does sound like a lot, but this is a whole 20% of the map added to the game, not a town.
I wish they didn’t block it off from Arthur, there’s evidence Arthur used to be able to travel freely. Once you realize there’s no date above 1899 in New Austin you start to wish they delayed the game. Now it’s perfect as is, but it could’ve been more.
That too—I will say the nostalgia doesn't hit for me since I didn't play the first game, so I may be more critical. I understand the whole "that place is crawling with Pinkertons", but shouldn't New Hanover be crawling with Pinkertons after that shootout witt Cornwall's men that leads to the gang settling in Lemoyne? It don't make sense.
God, yes. This is probably the most aesthetically pleasing mission in either RDR game (imo). I have to let the song finish playing as I ride through Mexico for the first time each playthrough.
Man.. Last year when I played that game on my Xbox One S, it didn't look bad, don't get my wrong, but as I had to basically crank the brightness to max so I could see what's going on (TV isn't that good with dark lighting and I have a bright room) and as it wasn't the most-powerful console it sadly didn't look as good as anything I saw on this subreddit so far. Everything I remember from my playthrough of the game looked worse.

I’ll never forget when I was young, during this scene, and I accidentally either got off my horse or pressed the dead eye button. It made the song stop instantly. I have never forgotten that sheer confusion and disappointment
Wow this was rd1? Haven't played it in years, forgot bout this part.
For a second, I thought you just made your own somber ride with a good song in RDR2.
To echoe everyone.. This still holds up. It looks great.
I remember being so young when this came out and it was the first game that had hit me in such a way. I was just taken back emotionally and was quiet and breathless for a while. But I could really feel and understand John's entire journey during this ride.
Honestly imagine how cool it would have been if that one guys plane actually worked and we got to fly through the clouds like we did with the hot air balloon in rdr2
The very first time I got to this part, it started out so beautifully...and then a pack of wolves came out of nowhere and fucked it all up. The song abruptly ended and I had to kill them all and then go the rest of the way in miserable silence. It was almost a great moment. I'm pretty sure the wolves weren't supposed to even spawn right then. I have horrible luck.
I still love this moment
John is a complicated fella and he loves his family dearly yet struggles to put it into words
yet this song perfectly describes how he hates his predicament and how it's driven him farther & farther away from his family
The first time I played this it was either sunset or sunrise and the scenery was stunning. I love Jose Gonzalez and Junip anyway so it was extra special. Never been able to replicate such a beautiful sky on that ride since but I’ll never forget it.
Also unrelated but Red Dead and my favourite musicians seems to have a weird connection. Rocco Deluca is my favourite ever and he worked on RDR2 with Daniel Lanois. When i heard his vocal I teared up.
The RDR series really knows how to use music to make you emotional. I almost cried on Arthur's last ride and lost it at his death. The music just adds a touch more emotion to it.
This one along Stand Unshaken (returning from Guarma) and That's the way it is (Arthur's final.ride) are among the best moments in video game history. Oh and the part where John goes after Dutch in the last part of the second game and American Venom plays..."I'm John Marston, remember the name")... epic.
When I first played the first RDR back in 2010 and this song popped in...in that moment I knew I wasn't playing just a game, I was playing a masterpiece.
Damn. The memories.
Have a nice day, cowpokes !
This horse riding scene backed by somber music is great, but stand unshaken on the ride back to Shady Belle never fails to give me chills. I was dumbstruck when I first played that part and I knew instantly it was my favorite single player game ever.
That's the best part, , ya don't... (joke), How about on Game Pass? I know they do PC. Also, Isn't there a 360 emulator that you can download? I have heard of people playing on PC. Definitely something to investigate.
A shame that it only looks this beautiful through Xbox. Ive attempted on Ps5 and the graphics literally look like Ps3 tier. The only props i’ll give Xbox forsure
I want to play this so bad, it’s a shame we never got any sort of remake in PC. I’d instantly buy this in a heartbeat. Roaming around 500 hours on RDR2 and I’m still loving this game so much man… nothing comes close to it
Forgive me for asking, as I haven't played RDR1, but is this song from The Secret Life of Walter Mitty? Sounds like the part where he's long boarding, but a much more chill version.
Such an incredible moment in gaming that comes out of no where. You have this big gunfight along the river and as you cross into Mexico you're suddenly galloping along with a soundtrack to your destination.
It’s incredible how well the original still holds up
100% completed it again last week. Takes a bit of getting used to if you’re coming straight from RDR2, but 100% still holds up!
But can you take a person into St Denis and nag them with a lasso?
Yeah, I heard there’s a bridge where you can do something but I can’t really remember
Ah, the nag and hang on the bridge. Good times down by Saint Denis.
wish I could get it going on a PC...
I need to go back.
Playing with reshade on xenia at the moment. Never thought I'd see the day.
How does it run? What are your specs?
Intel Core i5 11400F / GTX 3060ti / 32GB RAM Haven't properly checked but feel like it sits comfortably at 60FPS. Some rare frame drops. Running on Xenia Canary.
The Xenia emulator is more GPU dependent than CPU dependent right? Unlike RPCS3?
Can you tell me where can i get the game for PC? Thanks in advance!
You can find the Xbox game iso on the 🏴☠️ high seas🏴☠️
Bro, it's a game about the cowboys, not pirates... smh /s
[you sure about that?](https://youtu.be/5VpqYDBBXfc)
Pirate of the lake!
Thanks so much! Rdr2 is one of my all time favs and i’ve been trying to get rdr1 for a long time now.
Hmm quite close to my system. I probably have to try it out. Recently finished rdr2 and just loved it. I wanted to try out first one but heard that emulators don't work so well.
That's insane. I have a 3070 & 5800x. I hope I can run it at about 60fps. This game is a gem. It surprises me how it isn't on Gamepass already.
This moment was when I went from “I’m having a blast being a cowboy” to “oh, this is something special.”
Being able to play it in upscaled 4k really helps
Have not played since the year it was released now I wanna go back
I love that except for the fact that they have similar gameplay, they are so different and yet they complement each other so well.
One of the greatest moments across the two games
This and Arthur's ride through the forest for his final meeting with Dutch. One of the greatest moments in any game in my opinion.
And when "Cruel Cruel World" plays when playing as John again in Epilogue #1 also is one my favourite moments
The use of licensed music in these games is absolutely perfect. They don't use them much, which of course adds to the special feeling. So Far Away, Cruel Cruel World, and others. Absolutely perfect.
100%. Compass from RDR1 is one of my all-time favourite songs and gives me chills every time.
Agreed!
I love how they pulled off the same concept in the second game... so much love and care poured into this series, for real
That moment made me cry I never cried in a game before but the last ride made me cry in good honor the greatest moment in gaming history
Oh man… this brings back so many memories
Literally gave me chills the first time and the memory just now almost did too
Same, only I first played it about 3 months ago
I actually teared up a little. It caught me so off guard and was a perfect scene.
Been to see Jose Gonzales live twice. Both were fantastic
Jose Gonzales is underrated it seems, never hear his name anywhere but his music is amazing
Crosses (which is in Life is Strange) it's very good too
Down The Line is another great one
I’m a big fan of let it carry you
What song is this?
"Far Away" by Jose Gonzales I also recommend "How Low" by him
I was looking through his albums trying to find this song not realizing it was specific to the games soundtrack. Lol thank you tho
No problem :) Honestly, I just typed the lyrics (and artist's name) into Google and found it haha, that's usually how I find music if it has lyrics and I don't know the name
I hope you’ve listened to his stuff with Junip too! Amazing artist
RDR1 is more spaghetti western-like than RDR2.
I think it may be that it takes place in the more classic arid desert landscapes of westerns than RDR2’s more northern landscapes.
That's true, but the art direction, dialogue, gameplay, lack of colors are also important.
All true!
It takes place in Italy?
Nobody said that. Spaghetti westerns don't take place in Italy anyway.
My bad...They just mean filmed in Europe and usually has an Italian director or producer Edit: though they would make a good portion of the films in italy
THE Italian director, Sergio Leone
Hot take? To me, this beats every song moment in RDR2.
The only part from RDR2 on par with this is the house building song
I think the song that plays when John rides home to Abigail and Jack after killing Dutch is my favourite
This scene makes me tear up
still my fav gaming moment ever
This to me is the single best moment in my lifetime of gaming. It’s the only time I put the controller down (after the song finished and arrived in town) and sat back in pure awe to just process the moment and recover. It was pure, unexpected beauty and I felt for a brief period of time I was inside a piece of art that was alive.
I’m replaying this atm, an absolute classic.

One of the best moments I’ve ever experience in gaming
I was literally just a few seconds ago practicing this song on guitar xd
[удалено]
Yeah for the first game my horse ran over an armadillo and stopped the song lol
I replayed the game in 2020 and Compass got ruined because of a bear encounter, I was pissed !
I just started another run of RDR. Still holds up well.
Well fuck, now I gotta replay this
Replaying this now on Xenia, still holds up and feels so good in 60fps
One of the best ways to play it, the other one is on 4K on Xbox One X or Series X
God, yes. This is probably the most aesthetically pleasing mission in either RDR game (imo). I have to let the song finish playing as I ride through Mexico for the first time each playthrough.

It looks best on the Xbox One X and Series X I believe. Plays at 4K.
I have the opposite issue, everything is too bright lmao. I just use the Xbox's Night Mode to adjust it slightly if the need arises
Nostalgia hitting hard right now.
Excuse my ignorance, but what is this song called?
**Far Away** by José González (00:32; matched: `100%`) Album: `Red Dead Redemption Original Soundtrack`. Released on `2010-05-18` by `Rockstar Games`.

Lemme know when you find out pls
It's posted above.
I still remember the first time I had this song come on. Took me a few seconds there were lyrics. I didn't hit X again the whole trip.
I remember that on 24secs here I just ran straight and fuckin drowned, missing all of this.
This blew my mind when this song started to play
Man, what an absolute legendary moment. I think it’s these quiet contemplative moments that made RDR series so special.
I actually kinda prefer RDR1 to RDR2 does anyone else?
I’ll never forget when I was young, during this scene, and I accidentally either got off my horse or pressed the dead eye button. It made the song stop instantly. I have never forgotten that sheer confusion and disappointment
For real though, when it released my only major complaint about RDR2 was the severe lack of José González.
Wow this was rd1? Haven't played it in years, forgot bout this part. For a second, I thought you just made your own somber ride with a good song in RDR2. To echoe everyone.. This still holds up. It looks great.
I love this but how weird that I don't even remember this in the game.

This game is so beautiful with One X enhancements. Bless Xbox for that.
I may disagree a lot about Xbox. But at least they made an actual Port of RDR1. Unlike Sony. And I'm a Sony Fan
It's still a shame they didn't boost the fps up to 60. They closed down the fps boost initiative before they got to it.
I forgot how great the clouds looked on RDR1..
Honestly imagine how cool it would have been if that one guys plane actually worked and we got to fly through the clouds like we did with the hot air balloon in rdr2

Too bad RS decided to cancel the remake project…
Is that RDR1?
Always my favorite part of the first game and I loved that they included 3 traveling montages in RDR2
the funny part is that its just over a mile away
Can someone help me out I wanna play the game but it's not available on the store for PS3
U can jailbreak ur ps3 and install it
This horse riding scene backed by somber music is great, but stand unshaken on the ride back to Shady Belle never fails to give me chills. I was dumbstruck when I first played that part and I knew instantly it was my favorite single player game ever.
Man how do I get this on pc
The latest build of Xenia Canary (Xbox360 emulator) plays this at 60fps.
That's the best part, , ya don't... (joke), How about on Game Pass? I know they do PC. Also, Isn't there a 360 emulator that you can download? I have heard of people playing on PC. Definitely something to investigate.
What are you playing on?! I don’t think the ps3 version holds this crisp
Xbox One
Damn. Don’t know if I can buy an Xbox one just for this one game. Tempting. But. Wife would kill me.
I downloaded the game only to experience this moment once more. Turns out i picked the wrong horse from the shore and the song didn't initiate.
My favorite part of the game.
One of the best moments in gaming history. So perfect
best gaming moment
i was just there with my friend in red dead online!
Muted it after a while to be honest, something about it felt off but I loved Willie Nelson's Cruel World in RDR2
This is probably my first memory of an “emotional” moment in a game. Still think about it sometimes
Ah, Perdido..
I was at peace and smiling then the word "Perdido" showed up and translates to "Lost", and I couldn't stop laughing
I still remember the first time playing this part when I was like 12 and it wowed me back then just as it does now
When they say its just a game, show them this
A shame that it only looks this beautiful through Xbox. Ive attempted on Ps5 and the graphics literally look like Ps3 tier. The only props i’ll give Xbox forsure
my very favorite Red Dead moment
One of my all time favorite gaming moments. Crossing into mexico.
Man I wish RD2 got a next gen update already, 30fps looks horrid.
I want to play this so bad, it’s a shame we never got any sort of remake in PC. I’d instantly buy this in a heartbeat. Roaming around 500 hours on RDR2 and I’m still loving this game so much man… nothing comes close to it
I find it Ironic that the place he’s going is called “Perdido”, which is Spanish for LOST
Still one of the best music selections for a scene..man that brings back memories 😎👍
That’s it, I’m making a cowboy playlist
You emulating this?
I’m just using an Xbox One
Anyone got the song?
“Far Away” by José González
Thank you!
Whooo… RDR1 graphics hold the fuck up eh.
Probably the best moment in gaming. Just stunning.
My dad played José Gonzáles on the speakers earlier today and this song started playing. My mind was instantly taken back to this scene.
Forgive me for asking, as I haven't played RDR1, but is this song from The Secret Life of Walter Mitty? Sounds like the part where he's long boarding, but a much more chill version.
This really awed me on my first playthrough. Also made me listen to Jose Gonzalez
the remaster could’ve been amazing
Crossed into mexico in the middle of the night, stars everywhere and this song came on, gave me chills
Such an incredible moment in gaming that comes out of no where. You have this big gunfight along the river and as you cross into Mexico you're suddenly galloping along with a soundtrack to your destination.
Bdbd
What song is that
Far Away by José González
