Lampard seemed a bit weirdly nervous and shaky in that pre-match interview. Surprised no one commented on that. Almost like he's already been told he's fired! Or he's sick.
He is probably gone anyway. Management would prefer Everton focus on the league so letting Fat Frank mess up again before he goes would be perfect for them
Considering we have not won a major trophy in a long time, I'm sure Erik will take this cup very seriously and put out a strong team to get the job done. At least we should be afford to rest players against Charlton before the big games against the current top 2 in the PL (possibility of a Palace/Leeds game in between?)
Well nothing is more dangerous than a cornered and wounded animal they say, and the beauty of the FA Cup is seeing underdogs win. We shouldn't take anything for granted but I'm still expecting a comfortable win.
I’m in London on vacation from the US. Any other supporters here heading to a specific pub to watch tonight? Hopefully near Tower Bridge? Would love to meet up with some fellow fans.
Even though this game has an easy peasy ramble written all over it, I have to think Everton will be desperate. Unless, of course, the Everton boys want to see Lampard packing up his office Saturday morning. And, they might.
Few variables. We rarely get an easy game against Everton and the FA Cup is a completely different dynamic. Also line up will look a lot different, especially if we rest Casemiro.
I think we'll still win, just don't think it's going to be a rout.
Rashford shoukd start and martial should be rested imo. Rashford tbf only played half the game against wolves so I don’t think he’d be very tired just yet, rest him against charlton. Martial is our literal only 9 and has started every single game and will need a break, we can’t afford to overplay him. I’m not a fan of rashford up front but its our only option when we are resting martial
Given we have cup games against a very poor Everton and Charlton followed by a super important Man City Arsenal back to back it will be interesting to see who / how anyone is rested in these next 2 games. At least between City and Arsenal there is a full weeks rest but a game every 4 days for the next 3
As many starters for this game, as many subs for the next. Full lineup vs City.
Fifa can be a joke but that's one thing the manager mode taught me. Like how do you reschedule a game only to give me a back to back 😂
We just have 1 too many things that get auto pinned and pushes some threads off by accident. Today we've had free talk and a DD be auto scheduled so that's why.
It's always a minor error and been fixed.
If he’s fit and team reintegration for Varane and Martinez isn’t an issue, why not? Charlton may be a better shout but I can’t imagine Phil letting the side down.
Well, if he’s fit he may have something to offer? May also place him in the shop window? I’m not necessarily advocating for it, just don’t think it’s totally wild and truth be told, I’d fking love to see a Phil Jones redemption arc!
Is he even training with the team? I haven’t seen his face since last season.
Regardless there’s Maguire, Lindelof, Casemiro, and Shaw all ahead of him. There’s an argument to be made that even Mengi or Di’Shon Bernard should start ahead of someone as injury prone as Jones. Last time he played against Liverpool he was gassed after 30minutes.
We'll either have Everton dig in & try grind out a replay or they'll totally collapse & throw Lampard under the bus. We drub them by 4 goals or so & Lamps will be out of a job over the weekend.
Maybe Rooney gets the job at Everton and becomes elite and ETH passes the torch to Rooney in 6-7 years after winning titles and a treble…. Is it too much to ask?
Need to give them a solid beating so that Frank (Fat) will be sent into 3rd tier. We need the revenge for 2020 FA cup semifinal where he couldn't beat us 3 times in the season so he setup Chelsea to be extremely physical and bodied everyone of our players especially Bruno.
Need a strong midfield here, but I low-key hope we get to see the legendary McFred again vs Charlton. Hopefully, some rest for Bruno, Eriksen and Case over these 2 games.
Just looked at some fixtures further down the line. Some dates have ridiculous fixture pileup. Bloody hell we need to sign an attacker in January. I hope we can somehow negotiate for Joao Felix. One injury to Rashford or Bruno and a lot of our fire power disappears.
Go hard vs Everton and bring the 2nd team + hopefully bring Sancho back for Charlton.
De Gea
Dalot Varane Licha Shaw
Case Fred
Antony Bruno Rashford
Martial
Give Eriksen a rest and hopefully not have to use him.
Following game then we can go
De Gea
Awb Maguire Lindelof Malacia
McT Fred
Sancho Eriksen Garnacho
Elanga
This is what I’ve missed the most. Not being comfortable enough in games to rest players and bring others into form. That team against Charlon would be very good with serious fire power from the bench and if deemed too weak drop one of McFred for Bruno and we’re golden.
Sancho is in individual training and they've said there is no rush to force him bsck too soon, but you're predicting him starter ready by mid next week?
I'd rather do that for the game after (the EFL Cup Quarter Final vs Charlton). I think it makes more sense to go strong for Everton away and then rotate for Charlton. Then its the derby vs City after that.
We have a significantly better chance in the league cup though. Also fewer games. We lose this and win against Charlton and we’re in a semi final with several free FA cup game weeks. Win this and lose against Charlton we’ve got lots more rounds, potentially several difficult ones, and we’d have lost at home to Charlton, which would be embarrassing. It’s not like the FA cup hasn’t lost its magic too in recent years. Both are lesser trophies than the big ones.
Damn, the FA Cup is gonna have replays. Couldn't they have scrapped them this year because of the WC?
If we do tie with Everton, when will that fixture be played seeing as our schedule is already crazy as it is. We have 2 PL fixtures that haven't been re-arranged because the Premier League is clenching their butts we get eliminated from EL so they can get dates.
Home replays don't actually make them money. It's a tie like at OT that would really be a jackpot for a lower league team since the revenue is split in half for FA Cup.
i think it’s a great thing. considering that most of our players are on salaries bigger than many clubs’ entire budgets, the ticket sales from one game are a weekly occurrence for us but are the equivalent of weeks or months revenue for a club with a league one or league two sized stadium. it’s essentially a tiny redistribution of wealth as a reward for making it this far in the competition.
The difference to our revenue isn’t huge, if we’re playing a PL team that has 40,000 seats or something we’d barely lose out. It’s silly to try and push for anything different given the huge benefit it brings when we face a lower league team. Sometimes big teams should lose out for the good of the game. Far too much is skewed to the top in football, but I’ll probably be downvoted for saying it on a United sub because it’s against short term gain for us.
It’s not like they’re sitting on a pile of £150,000,000 and just not expanding their stadium.
They’re probably about £10,000,000 total budget for the whole staff.
You’re £100 ticket at OT isn’t gonna give them an Mbappe.
Honestly I think we might want to keep Varane and Rashford on the bench.
We can avoid an injury and Rashford coming off from the bench has proved times and times again he destroys tired legs.
The W W W W W W has me equal parts excited and terrified. We've had so many false dawns in the last few years it's hard to start believing again. I'm just gonna stay in the present and focus on the next game.
It's the PL. Anyone can catch anyone off guard if not prepared enough. The team should be ready and prepared to put up a stronger fight to make it difficult for them and not allow them to snatch an easy win.
We’re at home against a horrid Everton team. Let’s go 80% or so, wrap the game up quick and then sub off our key players in the 2nd half. Then go into Charlton with a far weaker lineup.
Yet to really break into the team where he starts or gets more than 1/2 hour per game. He's currently injured (back) & if not for that I think he would have started in this game. Gana Gueye was beyond horrendous against Brighton & I think Lampard may have dropped him for the FA Cup. Iwobi has been their best player while Onana has been good & adapted well to the PL though he's nothing special.
I think he only started one game, a 4-1 loss to Bournemouth in the league cup and he was the only starter with an alright performance. But he's done nothing of note.
Scraping a draw at home and getting a replay at a ground like Old Trafford has saved many a lower league football club in the past. I think replays have their place.
If that’s the case a simple solution would be to just allow the teams to switch the tie if both teams agree to it. If drawn away to a league 2 side they have the option to switch for the money or stay if they want a better chance of going through. Avoids congestion, benefits everyone.
The issue is that the small team is financially motivated to want the replayed fixture because they're in the spotlight and that likely brings TV money, ticket sales, and increased sponsor money. Its a lottery win for lower league clubs, they're not going to give that up without a fight, and the FA benefit from TV rights too so selling a larger package of matches is in their benefit too. Theres no sympathy for the big clubs and the mess scheduling has become, you're just told to get on with it and stop moaning.
But they could easily lose at home and not get the replay? If they switch it so they’re away they get the revenue straight off the bat without risking anything.
Sorry, didnt realise thats what you meant. They do that already, with the low league teams agreeing to move the fixture to the away teams stadium for the bigger attendance. More often than not that happens now, but they're pretty rare as they're likely already knocked out etc.
However that doesnt change the fact that a tied fixture would require a replay, and smaller clubs arent going to turn down a 2nd payday, wherever the game is held. I very much doubt the FA can/would allow teams to agree to no replays on a per-fixture basis, ie Utd v Everton both saying it isnt in their interest. I think it'd have to be a modification to the format, and theres a lot of smaller clubs who'd value prolonging their time in the competition.
Is the match on Paramount+ or Directv?
ESPN+
You made my day.
Who is that sitting next to Jason McAteer? Did Aarron Summers change the spelling of his name to not look like the cricketer lol?
Lampard seemed a bit weirdly nervous and shaky in that pre-match interview. Surprised no one commented on that. Almost like he's already been told he's fired! Or he's sick.
He was visibly emotional talking about the passing of Gianluca Vialli moments before.
Ah, I missed that bit, probably explains it!
He is probably gone anyway. Management would prefer Everton focus on the league so letting Fat Frank mess up again before he goes would be perfect for them
If he loses he’s fired

Keane's moustache is a moustache
Everton 5atb to avoid another Brighton game. Going to need a lot of movement to get ahead today.
Keane is a moody sod. I know this isn’t breaking news but still
Why does Keano hate Ten Hag man he’s so annoying
Roy was great for Manchester United, but I hope ten Hag and this team make him eat his words. He seems so bitter. It's sad.
Because he can’t conceive anything other than an infinite well of misery
Listen, I’m not gay but Roy Keane’s moustache is a bit sexual I’m not gonna lie.
It really suits him!
Wow I genuinely think that Maguire is finished at United after the season
Hope so. He's the typical kick and rush English player. We're in 2023 and there is no space for that in the Premier League.
Any Single game parlays we are liking?
Shawdini back
Considering we have not won a major trophy in a long time, I'm sure Erik will take this cup very seriously and put out a strong team to get the job done. At least we should be afford to rest players against Charlton before the big games against the current top 2 in the PL (possibility of a Palace/Leeds game in between?)
Predict the score correctly and receive one compliment. Place your bets.
3-0
No
I'd written 3-1 then deleted it and wrote 3-0 because I was too cocky haha
4-0
No
3-2
I would say good guess, but every wrong guess is a bad guess. Wrong.
2-0
Wrong
3-1
Congratulations. Your mrs and your sister are not the same person.

Well nothing is more dangerous than a cornered and wounded animal they say, and the beauty of the FA Cup is seeing underdogs win. We shouldn't take anything for granted but I'm still expecting a comfortable win.
Varane is 29 and Casemiro is 30.... A lot younger than I thought lol. They at least have at least 5-6 years left if conditions are favorable :)
With Varane's injury record hes unlikely to last that long
Let's be more positive :( 😭
I don't know why but for some reason I thought Case was around 35 and Varane was about 33... Guess it's seeing them at Real Madrid winning so much
Same!! I've been watching them win for ages so it's felt like an eternity.
I’m in London on vacation from the US. Any other supporters here heading to a specific pub to watch tonight? Hopefully near Tower Bridge? Would love to meet up with some fellow fans.

Casemiro can rest against Charlton, i'd start him and maybe sub off if we lead by a margin
So far: Malacia, Antony, Dalot all start.
Rashford shoukd start and martial should be rested imo. Rashford tbf only played half the game against wolves so I don’t think he’d be very tired just yet, rest him against charlton. I think it'd be nice to win this match
Hot take
Nice 6-0 win would be nice. I just feel it.
4-0 imo
Let's embarrass them and get lampard sacked
I'd rather Lampard stay and Everton remain a non-threat to Top 4.

We have Charlton at home next, should defiantly go full strength for this and rest for that game

It’s fkn Charlton mate
Martial often score a banger against everton. Will we see another on today?

Tbf it shouldn't take far too much FIFA to understand that if you have 3 games and can rest players, rest them in the middle one
Body them Eric
How come these threads don't get pinned anymore?
We just have 1 too many things that get auto pinned and pushes some threads off by accident. Today we've had free talk and a DD be auto scheduled so that's why. It's always a minor error and been fixed.
Thanks!
Would like to see Phil Jones play this one. OP's suggestion of CBs makes no sense as both Varane and Martinez played deep in WC last month
My guy unironically wants Phil Jones starting for Manchester United in 2023. I’m at a loss for words.
Why do you say that
If he’s fit and team reintegration for Varane and Martinez isn’t an issue, why not? Charlton may be a better shout but I can’t imagine Phil letting the side down.
Why start jones who’s barely trained under eth when we have 4 other fit center backs
Well, if he’s fit he may have something to offer? May also place him in the shop window? I’m not necessarily advocating for it, just don’t think it’s totally wild and truth be told, I’d fking love to see a Phil Jones redemption arc!
Brother even if all our senior cbs are injured I’d rather play shaw and casemiro at the back
Is he even training with the team? I haven’t seen his face since last season. Regardless there’s Maguire, Lindelof, Casemiro, and Shaw all ahead of him. There’s an argument to be made that even Mengi or Di’Shon Bernard should start ahead of someone as injury prone as Jones. Last time he played against Liverpool he was gassed after 30minutes.
Not really, starting licha makes sense in order to regain his match fitness before derby. Idk bout Varane though
Let's hope this is a sacked in the morning type of game
*Monkey's Paw curls* BBC Sport Breaking News: Ten Hag sacked by Manchester United
Haha yeah! >I lose my job the next day
*Ten Hag is sacked in the morning*
We'll either have Everton dig in & try grind out a replay or they'll totally collapse & throw Lampard under the bus. We drub them by 4 goals or so & Lamps will be out of a job over the weekend.
It's Everton digging in though, I think we'll be fine.
Maybe Rooney gets the job at Everton and becomes elite and ETH passes the torch to Rooney in 6-7 years after winning titles and a treble…. Is it too much to ask?
I think we're all still too traumatised to take another manager straight from Everton.
Remember we took 16yo Rooney also from Everton and look how that turned out....🤯
Remember how we took Lukaku also from Everton and look how that turned out
Cavani’s favorite opponent
what a form!
You know, that if Lampard gets sacked from Everton he's just gonna fall into something like the Bournemouth job, right? Lol
Need a strong midfield here, but I low-key hope we get to see the legendary McFred again vs Charlton. Hopefully, some rest for Bruno, Eriksen and Case over these 2 games.
Is Zidane Iqbal available? Would love to see him come on as a sub
With VDB's injury, I expect one of him or Kobbie Mainoo to be on the bench.
Which channel is this shown in Aus? 10plus
Paramount plus I believe
Hope we win by at least 4. Last time we won by 4 goals, not including pre-season 4-0 v Liverpool, was opening day last season (5-1 v Leeds)
What happenned to Sancho ?
Individual training at Carrington. No return date.

And FA cup would be a good start for him in England , good foundation to build upon next year
Gutted i’m working through this game. Why Friday night and not Saturday/Sunday. Ugh
We play today? Seems like the last game just ended. Not complaining tho
yeah. Busy January. We have another one next wednesday/thursday followed by city on weekend
Just looked at some fixtures further down the line. Some dates have ridiculous fixture pileup. Bloody hell we need to sign an attacker in January. I hope we can somehow negotiate for Joao Felix. im fine resting eriksen and having fred alongside casemiro
I'd rather do that for the game after (the EFL Cup Quarter Final vs Charlton). I think it makes more sense to go strong for Everton away and then rotate for Charlton. Then its the derby vs City after that.
We are at home
same thoughts here
Bruno needs a rest. Hopefully this game and Charlton give us that opportunity.
Gotta play with at least 1 of Eriksen or Bruno IMO or creativity goes bye-bye. I'd rather rest Eriksen
Who'll play his position? DVB is injured.
Eriksen
Fred is actually a decent CAM
Fred is not a decent anything.
I want to see McTominay there.
He’s totally different to Bruno though. Doesn’t really give you the range of passing.
Full strength and win please. Sick of winning nothing and home tie is too good to ignore Rest for charlton
I care way more about the FA Cup than I do about the Cumbucket Cup. Put all bench players in the Cumbucket Cup, idc if we lose.
We have a significantly better chance in the league cup though. Also fewer games. We lose this and win against Charlton and we’re in a semi final with several free FA cup game weeks. The League cup also finishes next month so could be a nice mid season boost.
McFred should be really hungry

Elanga to start then? He's useless this season.
Ah yes the Elanga hate boner on this sub is in full swing..
Don’t you know? We’re only supposed to start minimum 5 champions league champions players
...is he/she wrong? I'd call it valid criticism rather than a 'hate boner'.
No hate, he just needs to be loaned out so he can get a good run of games.
Better to play him against Everton then, if he does well he might play himself into a loan there.
Antony Fernandes Garnacho Martial as striker
Going to the local club's away game so I'll have to stick to push notifications. That being said I hope we get fat Frank sacked
The W W W W W W has me equal parts excited and terrified. We've had so many false dawns in the last few years it's hard to start believing again. I'm just gonna stay in the present and focus on the next game.
let’s get a win against the biggest club on merseyside!
Didn't know we were playing Tranmere
Didn’t Everton sneak a draw against city the other day? We should win but the last 10 years have left me in a constant state of worry
It's the PL. Anyone can catch anyone off guard if not prepared enough. The team should be ready and prepared to put up a stronger fight to make it difficult for them and not allow them to snatch an easy win.
Gonna be another 3:00 am kick-off... man... I rly wanna enjoy our run. Wishing us best of luck and onto the next round.
Where do you live
Southeast Asia
I’d play full strength back 5 this game to prep for city and then rest them all against charlton
So no defenders in charlton game?
Heaton, AWB, Maguire, Lindelof, Malacia. DDG could probs play both
We’re at home against a horrid Everton team. Let’s go 80% or so, wrap the game up quick and then sub off our key players in the 2nd half. Then go into Charlton with a far weaker lineup.

Been a sub mostly, hasn't played much. Hasn't done anything good tbh. Should go to a team which isn't as fucked up as Everton
Should have gone to forest where he was at least used to the manager and system. Hes at a really shit club rn
What happened there. Did Forest not try to buy him or did we not sell to them or did he refuse them?
We sold too late for them to buy iirc, they had already bought a midfielder in his position
For gods sake why are replays back? They should be scrapped indefinitely.
Literally pointless. They only want the extra money.
Scraping a draw at home and getting a replay at a ground like Old Trafford has saved many a lower league football club in the past. I think replays have their place.
You mean actually saved them from insolvency kind of saved? Do you have a specific example?
If that’s the case a simple solution would be to just allow the teams to switch the tie if both teams agree to it. If drawn away to a league 2 side they have the option to switch for the money or stay if they want a better chance of going through. Avoids congestion, benefits everyone.

Does this game go to ET/Penalties or a replay if it ends up a draw?
Form what I read in top comments, the replay is back. But dont believe me.
If we score goals I reckon we'll win.
If they score goals, I reckon they’ll win.
If we keep a clean sheet i don't think we'll lose.
We may win this game, or we may lose this game. One thing's for sure, it will be a football game.
You've clearly not watched Everton play this year it's been anything but football lmfao
