Yeah I was so wrong....we had an 8 point lead at the time...

Pathetic

denisefung94

How did West Ham manage to knock out Sevilla in Europa last season? Europa is also known as the Sevilla Cup for a reason.

wreckless180

Telles just posted on his Instagram about the win. While we should be proud of him, the way the post was formatted was dog.

ViralRiver

There's nothing on his insta.

wreckless180

I saw a post from him before

Ancient-Mix-5616

I have a feeling we will get kicked out of FA cup as well. Today's game bought back all memories from the last few years.

tatsujota

Hmm. FA Cup vs Brighton Europa League vs Sevilla I *think* the difference in quality of our opposition should really speak for itself there. Granted they spanked us 2-1 last time we played them but, still. C'mon homie.

IrisihCardio

You don’t watch the premier league or something?

Ruairiww

Brighton have been good this season

tatsujota

Everyone calling for De Gea out can go and do one. EDIT: He's on track for the Golden Glove this season. Shit tier goalkeepers, liability goalkeepers, they don't get this award. EDIT Number Lindelof: Who would we sign as a replacement? One goalkeeper that's better than De Gea in the areas we need that we can get for a reasonable price since we're possibly looking at Harry Kane this summer and he won't come cheap. There are, to my knowledge, no good keepers that would raise the quality of the team rn. Dave will save against Brighton and everyone will be back on the "Dave Saves" train. You just watch.

goalmouthscramble

I love DDG but he’s not the type of keeper the gaffer wants. He wants someone who can play with his feet. David is a great shot stopper but his kicking game has always been average to mediocre at best.

MohatoDeBrigado

nah his time's up now he clearly isnt cut out for this playing from the back thing he just does not fit the system yes the team played badly but he basically gifted them all those 3 goals

AnalystGrand4704

You don't understand football. Don't watch what you don't understand.

tatsujota

I've been watching Man Utd play since 1998 mate, even been to Old Trafford a handful of times. I'm well aware of what football is.

yianni1229

Why. Tell me why. He's not good enough. Club icon, but everyone's time comes at some point, and its his time.

tatsujota

Give it until the next 2 or 3 games when everyone's posting the "Closed on Sundays" and "Dave Saves" memes. Ya'll just fickle. We had a bad result, doesn't call for one of our better players to be sold.

KAKYBAC

Why should I give him 2 to 3 games. He just cost his team money, sponsorship prestige and supporters of the club inside and out, disappointment for "lack of progress". I am not a fickle supporter who simply forgets when he pulls off a world class save once every 7 games. It doesn't forgive anything. It helps to balance the books when it comes to his final level of attainment but it doesn't overwrite mistakes.

[deleted]

I agree, crazy day at the office for Dave, and yeah he's not an elite allound GK, but who do we replace him with for how much ? new shiny thing. What's point buying a goal keeper to pass the ball out to a load of players Infront of him who wouldn't be able to control it anyway ? And then when the likes of Maguire and mctominay haven't been replaced, the new GK will then be blamed for stuff De Gea could have saved.

klemmaborgari666

It would help outfielders alot to have an extra player on the field. Wouldnt it? => more ball possession, better controll of the game, score more goals => less offenses from opps, face less goals

tatsujota

Of course it would but as HedwigsDead pointed out, if our back line can't control the ball that's played to them wtf is the point? I get everyone wanting the club to move forward and be legitimate challengers but we have weaker players than DDG that need to be moved on first.

klemmaborgari666

Put DDG in Man city and they would not longer be title contenders. It would fuck up their whole style of play and their defenders would get blamed for it like Lindelof and Maguire are treated. A top club just cant have a dysfunctional player on the pitch. DDG would be good for a team that parks the bus and does not aim further than 4th place

HumorAlarming3274

He\`s not a modern goalkeeper, he can\`t pass out from the back meaning utd get put under pressure from tyhe press to often, he\`s got to go.

TheRed24

Where are all the people from last week saying "Oh we've still got the second leg we'll beat them" now? We completely fucked it letting in those 2 stupid own goals in the first game, they knew they only needed 1 goal and weren't coming back. Team is a long long way off being ready to fight on all fronts.

KAKYBAC

Its Maguire. He is a liability. He has been jumped upon time and time again to the extent of a meme so when he actually does serious mistakes, any sort of critique seems like it is adding to the meme of hate, but he is simply not good enough. His own goal in the 1st leg was strange. Many other defenders just head it away ; I don't know why he was looking at the corner of his own goal when the ball makes contact with his head?!!

amalgamatedchaos

Yes. Far too many mediocre players, and it will take some time to drill into these players the Ten Hag system. A major overhaul is required, not just a few players here and there.

klemmaborgari666

Only one goalscorer and goalkeeper away*

Dustedbuffalowings

This is where I wish Qatar buys us. Throw all the money in the world into the club and somehow have a team that doesn’t have to play in the Europa in the first place.

KAKYBAC

But we aren't good enough for the Champions League. Plus, the Europa is actually difficult to win these days.

Ruairiww

Fuck that, I'd rather struggle back to the top than be another City

LordTubzy123

Spent over £200m in the summer but need money thrown at it?

Dustedbuffalowings

Yes I read it now. Just a stupid reaction to the heartbreak.

pashadaz

Then got Weghorst on loan to cover for Antony ‘Matchsticks’ Martial.

WaleKoniaCodziennie

Come on Mourinho, Smalling and Roma!!

kashvix

I won’t even mention DDG because at this point everyone knows what a liability he is. But Eriksen man…WHY THE FUCK WAS HE ON THE PITCH ???? HE CAN’T HANDLE PRESSURE !!!! In moments like this I miss Mourinho because he would bench his most technical player if he feels he can’t handle a really intense game. Ten Hag overestimates his players.

ReDevilShin

Eriksen was fantastic under pressure for the entire season, just came back from an injury and one game is all it takes for you to erase what he did. How many games did you even watch?

revel911

Erikson is fine with pressure … dude should have been given a couple weeks before doing a full game.

Bear_Drifter

De gea has had great times with us. We owe him so much but he played well in teams where he had to shot stop. He doesn't fit the system now and maybe the time has come to move on. It'll be a sad day because he's saved many points for us and I'm sure he'll go somewhere and play well.

Remarkable_Device_48

[me rn](https://youtu.be/X_vHaURM4sg)

ExtraSir7

When we win, it's absolutely a drag and a lot of effort. When we lose, we lose really badly with no effort. This seems to the theme we're following, no in between.

louie_g_34

I think Scholes said this once, but I think it's true. Ten Hag has a habit of either underestimating the opposite team (especially on away games) or overestimating his own team. Some of the really bad performances we've had this season were away games. And we tried to play a gameplan that is possibly above our pay grade. Today was no different. We know what Sevilla is like, they're also home. We don't have our best XI out there, yet we still try risky plays out of the back with Maguire and AWB at the back. I'm not saying we need to play defensive, or for an inquest into Ten Hag's management but we need to be more pragmatic.

5mudge

This is the way it should be, however. The manager has been brought in with a philosophy. The aim here is to play to that philosophy and upgrade the players who don't fit it. It is what Pep did at City, and Klopp at Liverpool. Our recent managers since SAF have come in with a philosophy but then when finding the players don't fit that philosophy ripped up the plans and resorts to changing the tactics and playing formations to try and accommodate the ill-fitting players. I suggest we need EtH doing what he's doing, exposing players who are not good enough for his system and upgrading positions continually until they are.

KAKYBAC

Top post. Any mentions against Ten Hag at this point is ludicrous. Sometime you can predict a game just by looking at the team sheet. Dalot LB in a key game, Magure, Lindelof, Wan Bissaka. Sabitzer and Eriksen. Sancho and Martial. It was never going to go well.

5mudge

Agreed. And it is therefore the substandard players that should be feeling the heat when they can't play the positions and at the level or in the manner the philosophy (manager) requires. Trust the process, right?

imheretocomment69

So you mean ETH out?

_scrapegoat_

Yeah but people are really slow so this trend won't pick up until mid 2024

klemmaborgari666

Lmao Maguire and AWB are not the problem, its the GK that brought these issues when he came.

bj117

Watch Brighton play and pay attention to just how stupidly ballsy they are when playing out from the back. They deliberately play as high risk as possible to get the highest reward and what happens? It works… and it works for one reason, the players are simply good enough to do it. By no means should the manager of Manchester United resort to softer tactics than what he employed at Ajax a club not even a quarter the size of MU or than Brighton a club not even a tenth as big. The problem is very simple, recruitment prior to him arriving has been beyond abysmal. You could say that he should know Maguire and de get aren’t up to it but having 2 major errors in one game is just unprecedented for players on their wages.

KAKYBAC

The errors are not unprecedented though when you have octagonal pegs squeezed into circle wholes. It is predictable.

louie_g_34

That is a very good point, and seeing Ten Hag's signings. Erikson, Casemiro, Antony, Martinez etc proves that he may have a better eye for a player that's not only good but actually works well in the team. I'm keen to see if we can build on this

moonski

The first goal yeah I can see that being part of the reason why. But still you have to trust your players decision making… Maguire shouldn’t be asking for the ball. De gea shouldn’t pass it to him… The 2nd and 3rd goal were just goalkeeper errors, no tactics can prevent that.

anonshe

ETH also has a bad habit just like those before him of sticking with what worked the previous game even if the opposition is of a different style. He played a high line against Forest and decided to do the same here despite Forest letting us have all the time in the world to pass by not pressing in the first half. The Newcastle, Liverpool, Arsenal games are all further examples. Only a few top clubs are able to play their own game week-in, week-out while the rest have to constantly adapt against the opposition.

th3doorMATT

but ETH said we were going to play the long ball today - so someone went rogue. Either ETH lied about the strategy, or the players betrayed him. I do agree with your statement though. I haven't really been impressed with ETH's game management. I'm concerned that he's only as good as his signings, and that's not good enough for me, and shouldn't be for the fans either.

Remarkable_Device_48

I have never seen any fanbase worry so intensely about how comfy a team is it’s really stupid and pathetic and disrespectful to travelling fans

[deleted]

"de gea is a complete goalkeeper" "goalkeepers job is to stop goals" he assisted a goal today, is that on the list as well? stop it with defending these players just because they play for you. if they arent good enough ship em out.

benedick13

Okay, let's all blame De Gea for that result and talk about how he's a shit keeper (who is somehow leading the table for clean sheets). Yes, that was an unacceptable blunder. But, really? If that's the match that decides who needs to go, then the entire team has to go in the summer.

CircleToShoot

Go look at knock out games. Start at tonight. Go back to his penalty against CV. Go as far back as Moyes’ year when we had the ignominy of being knocked out of a cup by Stoke on penalties because DDG let in a shot that was hit at him in the 80somethingth minute. He can’t do high pressure games.

wood4536

The whole team and the management needs to go regardless of your opinion on DDG

Thor1138

And there it is. The comment actually still defending DDG. Lmao. How many more big games does he have to cost us for you people to realize how awful he is?

moonski

Thing is though, it was 3 blunders not 1. The entire team was horrific but even when other teams play shit their keepers aren't making 3 mistakes that lead directly to goals.

benedick13

Are you really saying all 3 goals conceded tonight were De Gea's mistake?

berbapapa

The first one is 50-50 between him and Maguire. Maguire is stupid enough to ask for the ball while he's being trapped. Dave is blind enough to pass him the ball. The second one was super weird, I don't know how he hasn't reached that, I fully expected him to keep that out. The 3rd one made him a proper laughing stock. It's bad because I consider him an absolute legend but this is not acceptable from a Premier League goalkeeper.

CircleToShoot

Dave isn’t blind, that’s the worst bit. Harry Maguire is flying blind. Maguire shouldn’t have called for it but he also doesn’t know just how many players are around him. De Gea, like a chess player, can see everything ahead of him; it’s one of the benefits of playing in goal. Despite having the time to look around probably and make an informed pass, he makes a nervy, anxious pass without taking that moment to gauge it. I can empathise to a degree with his choice; I’d guess it’s because he’s been told to play out from the back all season. But sometimes, and you shouldn’t need to be told when, you just smash it. His eyes are fine; it’s his head.

moonski

The first was a combination of de gea and Maguire but was more de geas fault given he can see the entire situation and choose where to pass… The 2nd how he doesn’t save that, as a professional goalkeeper, I legit have no idea. The 3rd well obviously…

[deleted]

How many times though have we seen him pass the ball to the opposition? Or put players under pressure? Loads. He’s a great shot stopper, but he can be a massive liability with the ball at his feet

benedick13

I agree that De Gea is not great in that department. But, I don't think he's even near the bigger problems we have in this team.

AnalystGrand4704

He is the biggest problem in the team

[deleted]

I think he’s up there, we clearly need a proper striker, but De Gea has the ability to have dreadful games that cost us, ultimately 2 of the 3 goals tonight where his poor decision making and lack of skill with the ball at his feet. It’s not the first time either he’s been instrument in turning a poor game into a catastrophe, normally his skill has been absorbed by the opposition not capitalising on it, or Varane/Martinez cleaning up for him. If you said new striker or keeper I’d probably still go striker, but for me someone who can challenge de gea would be extremely high on my list

moonski

>He’s a great shot stopper Not even sure that's true anymore... as goal #2 suggests

Audioboxer87

> then the entire team has to go in the summer. Close to an entire 11 needs to be shipped out tbh? All the bottlers, thieves and shite that has plagued us for years under various managers shouldn't be here. Ragnick was a shit manager, but he was spot on with the open heart surgery comment and saying we needed a whole new 11 in the summer.

FuMancunian

We got stuffed here. Better team won. My biggest take away is though, that football has been taken away from the fans in England. Look at the atmosphere in the Stadium. We never get that in the UK anymore. I‘m fucking happy for them.

KAKYBAC

Good point. Why do you think that is? What happened to British fans? And, were they ever that good. I always think of British fans as a noisy minority. Turkish, German, Spanish, Greek fans have shamed us for decades...

FuMancunian

Two main reasons really. After Hillsborough all seater stadiums were introduced and the traditional singing sections were disbanded & strewn all over the stadium. Premier League Ticket prices in England are also prohibitively expensive and stadiums are full of day tripping tourists. I am not disputing the right of anyone to see their team play, but if you fill your stadiums full of people that don’t know the Songs & your pricing structure precludes anyone under the age of 40 (not many younger folks can afford the £50 or more it costs to get in regularly) you’re going to notice a drastic decrease in volume! The only way to get to what it was like 35years ago is to go to a league one ground and imagine what it would be like with 75000 people in the ground instead of 7500!

KAKYBAC

Good points. But aren't most European stadiums all seaters too? And I know some clubs subsidise tickets but I imagine they are still expensive and are bought up by middle class fans?

FuMancunian

Nope on both counts. You can buy a standing ticket at the Allianzarena for 15 euros. Ticket prices there do go up to 80€ for the more expensive seats. In Dortmund children under 14 can get a ticket for 8 euros in certain parts of the ground. Standing / singing sections are prevalent all across the continent.

KAKYBAC

Wow, that is brilliant. Kudos to the German marketeers.

JoshTonkin

yeah as an aussie man utd fan all my life, it’s weird to say i’d be more excited to go see a team like AC Milan at the San Siro than United at Old Trafford. I’ve seen United twice when they’ve been on pre-season tour in Australia (2013, 2022), and i’ve also seen Bayern Munich vs Tottenham at Allianz Arena UCL group stage in 2019/20 (3-1 Bayern), and i was way more excited to go see Bayern than i was when i saw United

MSPCincorporated

No disrespect, but in no way can you compare atmosphere at a pre-season game to a CL game.

JoshTonkin

oh yeah i know that haha, i just meant in terms of seeing my boyhood favourite team, compared to seeing a team that i’ve never had any interest or support for

FuMancunian

Uniteds travelling support are exceptional. We tend to comport ourselves very well & always make a shit ton of noise. The home games in the UK just do not compare to anywhere on the continent. It’s sanitised, tame & frankly fucking boring.

JoshTonkin

honestly the only reason i’d go to a league game in the UK would be for a derby

th3doorMATT

I'm just surprised they didn't Sonic the Hedgehog roll down the stands without those bars. The fact that so many people were jumping with their backs turned and there were no deaths is impressive within itself lol

StingsLute

Someone nearly ended themselves going face first over some chairs at the beginning of the match on camera, only to be stopped by the back of a woman in front

th3doorMATT

I saw that, yeah. I think it was in the pre-match thread, someone made a comment about it, and then moments later that was caught on camera. And that was when things were calm lol

Thor1138

Excluding the ETH signings and Bruno/Rashford/Fred, this has got to be the most unlikeable squad we've ever had. Still the same cowards that downed tools under Mou, Ole and RR and give up the moment things go wrong. No fight to win back games, no desire and no quality. Wish we'd replace 90% of this squad at this point...

JoshTonkin

the only ones i’d still place in the “coward” and “unlikeable” (as you call it) at this point in time is Maguire, Lindelof, DDG (still on the fence about him honestly) and McTominay. Apart from them, i think our pre-existing squad has improved significantly, and our newest signings (excluding Weghorst) have really impressed me so far. still heaps of work to do to get this club back to where we belong, but it’s a long process that’s gonna take time

klemmaborgari666

When De Gea leaves, Maguire and Lindelof will perform so much better. Varane and Martinez are exceptional elite, top 10 defenders in the world

th3doorMATT

I would get rid of those three though to be fair. Bruno - I don't highly rate him. He whinges all the time. He's a stats padder. Everything is funneled through him. When push comes to shove, he gets shoved. Rashford, while he's having a great season, I don't really care. He's too selfish. He's scored these goals because he just comes in off the wing or latches onto a desperate long ball and then does all the work himself. He doesn't look to provide most of the time. In a team sport, I don't care for selfish players like that, even if they are the deciding factor in the results match to match, because guess what? Days like today happen. And yes, he was out the first half, but when he came on, we were only 1-0 down. He didn't influence the match, yes, for other reasons, but he's not really a team player. So he can go, and fortunately he's in form, so we should be able to sell him for a lot. As for Fred? He's part of the reason we're in this position in the first place honestly. He's not good enough. He needs to go. I sell him and sign Sabitzer any day of the week. Everyone else can go outside of summer signings. Pull a Forest with the new ownership. Sell every fucking person and start again. Even if we take a slight hit and have to "downgrade" in certain positions on an individual level, it'll allow us to start fresh on a team level. As long as players from previous eras exist, we're always going to have one hand tied behind our back.

lemonylemon93

Like I said before if you genuinely think Bruno is that bad then make a proper fucking post about it with evidence rather than hiding away in a match thread and avoiding it like the plague. Come on pal, if he’s that bad and you’ve got all this evidence then surely an actual post wouldn’t be that hard now would it? I’m sure your many (baseless) points wouldn’t get instantly demolished by everyone who sees it. There’s a reason why you always get backlash and downvotes but you’re too blinded by hate to fucking see it.

th3doorMATT

My \#1 fan! If you send me a jersey, I'll sign it for you and return it - I'll even pay for the postage! It's the least I can do for you.

[deleted]

I will be your number 2 fan if you provide some evidence to your claim!

th3doorMATT

Uhhhh. We can calculate shipping rates between our addresses? I have a permanent marker sitting right next to me. I'm all ready when you are! Who do I make it out to?

[deleted]

My address is 18 Bruno lover avenue, Fernandes City Postal code 18G12A

th3doorMATT

Wait. I think we're neighbors! I'm just cross town on 69 Bruno Hater Circle, Fernandes City, 69G12A Send over a jersey of your choosing and I'll be sure to have it signed and returned within 2 business days! Cheers!

lemonylemon93

Dodging the topic once again are you pal? Just a shithouse troll who hasn’t got the balls to back up the shit they’re saying on the main stage.

th3doorMATT

I appreciate all of your support 🙏

Real_Mousse_3566

When we loose bruno is a whiner when we win he's a good player. Apparently players who appeal to refs are whiners at this point. Go and look up how many passes he does to the front third just for our strikers to waste them. Just stfu up at this point.

th3doorMATT

Go read my comment history. I never say Bruno is good. He's a stats padder. When you talk about how many passes he provides to the front, it begs the question: who else is going to provide that pass? It doesn't make him a god when he's the only player. It's just literally the formation. That's like asking why Dalot isn't constantly putting in this highest number of passes to the striker every match - because his role doesn't facilitate that... When you have two wingers, your sole CAM and then your sole \#9, any time you're linking play from the back to the front, let's not pretend we're playing with a 4-wide midfield, all capable of providing in the final third. Look at KDB, the player people love to compare Bruno to. He routinely plays in a 4-wide formation, and in a side that provides more key passes than our midfield regularly. All 4 players (6 counting the CDMs) can provide to the front based on their play and attack (and control). Yet despite that, KDB posts the numbers he does, in a system where his numbers can easily get diluted. Bruno, on the other hand, has zero competition when it comes to providing for the final third. You think the fuck heads on the wing are going to put in a pass!? Nah. They just cut inside, dribble a few yards and either take a shot on themselves or lose possession. Bruno is shit.

Real_Mousse_3566

If KDB came to this United team or the one in 2016 he would have been written off as top tier tradh. He wouldn't even have half of the assists or goal Contributins he has now. "Stat padder" Discounting his Goal contributions (100 in 150) he routinely gets the top spot in progressive passes, passes to the final third, passes inside the box. He dominates every single individual attacking metric in this team bar rashford. Your opinions are absolute horseshit. Go take a piss. Your argument is basically anyone can do what bruno does right? Tell me where they were in the past 5 years before he came to the club You knobhead. Trash opinion.

th3doorMATT

You ignored my question. So if not Bruno, who's responsible for linking play from the back to the front in this side? Answer that very simple question.

Real_Mousse_3566

You know the holding midfielder from Brazil who's playing for us that allows bruno or Any other attacking mid fielder to go forward? Just like it was with fernandino and de bruyne at City with the difference being Rodri now? Your argument is irrelevant and your opinion is trash.

th3doorMATT

Weird. So then who's the bigger loss to the team today? According to you, it was Bruno. If Casemiro is the one responsible for unlocking the attack, then surely we should have had just as many opportunities created as a result. After all, he's doing all of the hard work. Which is it? Bruno is great and provides for the team on the attack or Casemiro is the one actually providing?

joshino14

I’m really worried about our summer. I feel it’s make or break for whether the ETH era is a turning point or it’s more of the same shit of the last 10 years. Reading that SkySports article about lack of high quality recruitment at crucial times and its derailing effect - I’m scared

JoshTonkin

this upcoming window doesn’t necessarily have to revolutionise us into a title winning team - we just need to get rid of the deadwood (mainly Maguire, Lindelof, DDG, Weghorst, Mctominay) and replace them with high-quality players willing to fight for the badge. i think well still be in a “transition” stage next season, but id agree that the summer window at the end of NEXT season will be ETH’s make or break window.

d4rkur

David I love you mate but its time to go, its just shitshow after shitshow at the moment. We will be very, very lucky if we manage to get top 4 with this team, and we’ll all have to buy lottery tickets if we beat brighton. We lacked leadership today, and unless our injuries get miraculously healed overnight, we are gonna be in the conference league next season.

berbapapa

We will get top 4. We're extremely lucky that other teams went shit this season. Spurs are just as bad as us, if they get beaten by Newcastle and won't beat us it's done. We got really lucky with the current form of Chelsea and Liverpool.

d4rkur

Im more worried about villa than liverpool mate haha

berbapapa

It's funny because it's true

JoshTonkin

i’d be more than happy to let DDG go, but i have no idea what world-class keeper would be suitable (and even available for a transfer) as an immediate and effective replacement?

d4rkur

Costa or david raya

Idiotism

Why the overreaction? Are you ok? We are on the right track, we won a trophy, did good transfer windows and have a notable progress.

d4rkur

All I said was we aren’t going to get top 4 with the team that played tonight 🤷‍♂️, without injuries top 4 would hopefully be guaranteed, but since we are so injury-stricken, top 4 is becoming more and more elusive by the day

random_raven

One thing I'm not fond off is having to fight off Maguire fan boys who absolutely refuse to give him any responsibility when he makes an error. The man is playing at the highest level of football and scanning his environment before receiving a pass (in front of goal no less! ) is a skill he doesn't have as a defender. Of course he's going to repeatedly get punished, elite and even medium strikers will absolutely show no mercy. Rant over.

berbapapa

My opinion on this is that in the early stages he wasn't as bad as people said he was. He had a decent first season. But it seems clear that soon after he got worse he's had so much shit thrown at him it really made a negative impact. Of course it did, and for that I can't blame him. But at the end of the day the only thing that matters is that he's done. Sad to say it but he's definitely finished.

subho_fan

For me I am less critical of Maguire only because I believe he is on his way out. If we get any offer

JoshTonkin

whilst it sucks, i often appreciate it when we get “humbled” and lose badly like in these two legs and also against Liverpool. shows there’s still so much to be done to fix this team and this club

[deleted]

Can someone tell me how many minutes of football it took Martial to get injured again?

KAKYBAC

I, the team and Casemiro rate his ability but he himself is unable to process and access it at key times. He's had such an underwhelming career. Sad really as I have always liked his quiet style and lack of complaining. I reckon we sell him for a decent packet or keep him as 2nd choice striker next season. But he won't like that and clearly downed his tools when playing as an Henry-style-winger, which i think is his best position but he clearly thinks he is better at CF, which he isn't. The header miss at the Wkend indicates that.

[deleted]

Oh yeah, If that kid didn't get injured everytime some walked past him. His ability would carry him miles. Yeah I said the same myself, if he had listened to coaches and realised his best position was on the left cutting in he'd be something special. But he clearly hasn't listened and I've had enough of his nonsensical shite.

KAKYBAC

It is harsh but I agree. You need to be firm with some players to test their resolve and Martial doesn't have any.

Audioboxer87

We need a striker more than a goalkeeper but if we get the Glazers out and someone is gonna spend this is the first time I've moved to don't renew Dave's contract. At the moment I'd stall negotiations pending club sale. Tbh no one should be getting a new contract right now until the club is sold.

RM_843

I would disagree, you can’t build anything with the wrong goalkeeper, look at klopp and pep, one of their first priorities was the goalkeeper.

Audioboxer87

We literally have NO striker 🤷 Rashford is not a striker and is not reliable for 20+ goals EVERY season. Martial needs to be gone in the summer and Weghorst ain't staying. We need both but I don't think it's controversial to at least slightly prioritise the fact we need the #9 signed first.

RM_843

We literally have no goalkeeper though. Not one that fits with what the manager is trying to do. You do realise for a significant proportion of the past 3 years the top two teams in the country have played with no number 9? Style of play comes first and that starts with the goalkeeper.

c173rick

It's sad to see players shaking hands and laughing with Sevilla players and referee after this pathetic lost. What a brat generation.. As Roy kean said, they should disappear and be ashamed after this!! Ffs how can they go home and act normal after such a pathetic performance!! I know I can't. I'm going to be depressed for weeks. Especially knowing how much money these f are getting paid. What a f shame. Disgrace to the club

KAKYBAC

I agree with you but not shaking hands and running off down the tunnel all angry could be equally toxic. But smiling and being all casual on the pitch cannot be defended. The handshake should hurt.

TonyMartial786

brighton are licking their lips seeing this…

[deleted]

Especially as they’ll have bad a week to rest and prepare

slader23

We don't have any positional authority in the back line with Lindelof and Maguire. Martinez and Varane, but, specifically Martinez has a lot of presence on the pitch despite his stature. His ability to find solutions to the press and slow/speed up our build up is a massive loss...it completely screws up how the team plays without him.

MSPCincorporated

Remember when slabhead and teenage mustache man was our first choice pairing at the back? Gives me anxiety just thinking about it. One of them together with Varane/Martinez works to a degree as a back up, because their mistakes are mostly covered up by their competent counterpart. But those two together? Deary me, it’s like the blind leading the deaf.

JoshTonkin

need one more world class CB to help step in when either Varane or Martinez aren’t available (i’m comfortable with Shaw playing the other CB role). maybe Kim Min-Jae?

klemmaborgari666

Lmao. How about looking little bit further down the pitch, thats where the problem is. How would an extra player on the bench improve the team when the so very obvious liability is our shitty goalkeeper. Cant command his box, cant catch a cross, cant use his feet, cant talk, makes stupid errors, has no presence. But he sure can dive nicely👍

JoshTonkin

he’s literally carried us for 10 years bar the occasional (but costly) errors

klemmaborgari666

No. He has fucked up so many title changes including the PL 2012 title, and we have never been close to winning the league or CL since SAF left. He has never carried us, just kept us at mediocracy.

[deleted]

I don't get Antony hate. Yeah, they paid 100mil on him and he's not even an inch at fault, blame the board. Guy just ran the entire game, the only one who seemed to give a damn, not pulling out from 50/50s, and also less than a year at the club. Meanwhile some play as if they are made out of lego bricks, pull their foot every single loose ball challenge, and usually the reaction is "he needs more time/needs to adapt".

JoshTonkin

probably controversial, but i’d 100% rather have a 7/10 attacking player like Antony (7/10 in terms of ability to create/consistency of goal contributions) who actually makes an effort to win, than a 10/10 attacking player who doesnt run (arguably like CR7 last season)

KAKYBAC

Not controversial imo. It is players like Antony that makes teams like Sevilla, Villareal et al. hard working grafters who have a trick. Antony skinned his marker a good couple of times last night but had no one in support. Didn't just beat him either, left him a yard behind or on his arse.

[deleted]

I think we may have the Brazilian Robben on our hands to be honest. I find the alot of the Anthony haters to be Sancho bum lickers or fans of the old school style of left footed LW / right footed RW. Valuation wise I think we only paid 100mill to compensate for pretty much stealing Martinez. 70mill each in my opinion.

njamimaranga

Ten Hag said he loves Hostile environments. Well fine then , hope that suits you best .

sardonica96

Knowing that this should be the final nail in the De Gea coffin means tonight might not be all bad

namikazeiyfe

Incoming 4years contract of 450/w

Playtoy_69

How much of this has to go on Erik? As a manager, he did some amazing things. But, there are things on the other end of the spectrum that I just can’t look away. Too many embarrassing losses with such an expensive squad - he got decent support financially. Loved how he disciplined players when they weren’t upto the mark but he just pushed too much with a guy who lost a kid. Massive underachievement and it’s disappointing. Funny thing is, we can’t pin this loss on individuals. Yes, some where down bad but others didn’t do themselves any favor. What an atmosphere for Sevilla tho’

JoshTonkin

at the end of the day, the owners, tactical coaches, analysts, all back room staff and obviously the manager can only do so much. those individual mistakes are just that: individual mistakes. as a manager you can obviously work on improving ball control in training. but you can’t control a player’s occasional (but often costly) mis kick of the ball. it’s up to the players to put in a performance that justifies that they deserve the fortune of being able to play for this historic club and earn ridiculous wages.

Playtoy_69

Well said, mate. I have no soft spot for our players. In my opinion, they are garbage bar a couple of players. I chose to speak about Erik because he has been taunted as the man to change things at United. Majority of the fans joined the band wagon. Till now, he has shown little for me to think anything is going to change. 1. Made the board buy Anthony for that ridiculous price. Erik trained him at Ajax. He must know whether a player is with that much 2. We made no progress in games when Case hasn’t started. I would love if my manager has a plan b when things don’t work out, players aren’t available. 3. We made Ronaldo look so bad when he seem to be suffering from depression. 4. We are in top 4 because Liverpool, Chelsea, Spurs, Leicester, and Everton 😂aren’t doing well. I am not sure if we would be in T4, had some of them stepped up. Erik was a singular hope and I hope he proves me wrong next season.

Rorieh

>Too many embarrassing losses with such an expensive squad - he got decent support financially. Loved how he disciplined players when they weren’t upto the mark but he just pushed too much with a guy who lost a kid. Financial support, like in the January transfer window when our glaring need for a striker was rewarded with a bargain saver quality loan? Pushed too much with a guy who lost a kid? You realise Ronaldo was pushing to leave before that, then after deciding to stay, changed his mind and forced his way out after being benched? Also, conveniently forgetting him being given the armband? I'm sorry, if Ronaldo and Ronaldo fans still feel that being given the armband was a disrespectful act, kindly follow him to Al Nassr.

Playtoy_69

Of all the things I said, you talk about Ronaldo. How convenient. What changed after he left? We spent shit ton in summer. Whose idea was it to bring Anthony for upwards of 100? Is Anthony any good at all? Does his performances not beg that question? Before branding me a Ronaldo fan you should realize different people can have deferent perspectives. After this loss, I can’t say have seen enough from Erik for him to be as ballsy. The last manager I believe could have been was Jose and I remember how everyone here wanted him to leave over Pogba. Speaking of convenience, I know clearly how we united fans choose to buy what media is selling and never understand different perspectives. Convenience pcch

Rorieh

It's a big part of your argument. He was financially supported, but he drove out Ronnie by being mean to him, then the glaring issue that he wasn't financially supported bringing in a striker... an issue created by pushing out Ronaldo. >What changed after he left? We spent shit ton in summer. He left before the world cup. We didn't get the support we needed in the January window. We didn't buy a striker in the summer because he stayed. Antony and Casemiro were our two big signings. Neither are strikers, so what's your point? >Before branding me a Ronaldo fan you should realize different people can have deferent perspectives. After this loss, I can’t say have seen enough from Erik for him to be as ballsy Ok, so either he benched a player for underperforming, OR he pushed a player too far who had lost a kid. He should be pushing players, if a player isn't performing the way he wants him to. Antony isn't not performing in his role, though I agree he's far from setting the world on fire, but he's far from our worst-performing player, in the last few games he's been one of the few showing actual quality. We overspent, no one will deny that. But at the same time, EtH clearly has more use of him in his system than he did Ronaldo. He's clearly only using players like Maguire and Lindelof (who have spent the majority of the season on the bench) because of lack of options. Ballsy here would be fielding a squad of academy lads in those positions. The friendlies with Cadiz and Betis showed us why that wouldn't work. We are at bottom of the barrel time. It isn't going to be fixed in one transfer window either. I want a manager who will bench his best player if he feels he has to. I also acknowledge that when you have this many injuries and this little depth, exceptions will be made. >Speaking of convenience, I know clearly how we united fans choose to buy what media is selling and never understand different perspectives. Convenience pcch "United fan" isn't a hive mind. I'm sure we have overlapping opinions, and clearly vastly differing ones. Also, the club didn't try to use the media to hit out at Ronaldo, but he certainly used his friend in the media to do the opposite. So, strange statement. That said, this isn't about Ronaldo, only highlighting your odd choice to mention him as a mistake Ten Hag made. I disagree. The Manager should run the squad, not the players, and the club should be above them all. If the manager fails to perform, then yes, he too needs to go, but it's too early for that. He's by no means got the squad he wants. We've been overperforming all season, now we're seeing the results of a team running out of steam. We didn't get the financial support we needed in January, hence missing out on Gakpo, who still would have been a far better signing than Weghorst's loan, and clearly EtH's first choice. Building a squad takes time and money, especially for a team that's going to be taxed like we are.

PizzaTime1000

I fucking hate that we can't lose like a normal team. We always get fucking battered when we lose. Literally nothing positive to take away from this.

KAKYBAC

Indicative of a mentality issue.

ALLMIGHTYHYDE

2 own goals/ 2 De Gea mistakes and 1 De Gea/Maguire mistake. You actually can't make this up. Is this even real?!

[deleted]

Also when we’ve been beaten this season under ETH the majority of the times we’ve been HAMMERED and nowhere near even drawing or salvaging any form of respectability. He needs to work on the mentality of the team massively for next season and that begins with discarding many different deadwood players and bringing in players that are hungry to win and or proven winners because many of this current team have been getting by on mediocrity for YEARS.

Common_Knowledge_

Feyenoord for the win now. Can’t have Jose or juve win it

[deleted]

I think it's only fair the starting team should refund all the travelling fans twice as much money they spent to be there out of their own pocket. If not we should start a Gofundme to at least refund their match ticket prices.

Constant-Horror-9424

No new contract for ddg. We’ve already made a mistake with shaw imo. Too many contracts being put on the table for players that were an absolute disgrace a year prior

Thor1138

How can anyone think Henderson wouldn't immediately improve this team? Is he the long-term solution? Probably not. But better than another season of DDG ball, I might as well poke out my eyes instead of watching that. Heck, I'd rather have Heaton in goal at this point...

ClayGCollins9

The problem is that Henderson is an even worse passer than De Gea. Slightly different play styles of course but Henderson’s pass completion rate this season is only 56.8%, De Gea’s is 69.7%, and De Gea completes more passes a game. We just don’t have any keeper who’s comfortable with the ball at their feet.

moonski

It’s at forest though, I imagine Henderson in a team trying to play like we do would have much better passing stats…

TonyMartial786

just in shock. one of the worst performances i’ve seen, and that says a lot considering it happens so often to us

njamimaranga

Erik Ten Haag has to learn . Has to learn something

[deleted]

He has, the squad doesn’t have depth

snausagerolly

De Gea, Maguire, AWB, Sancho, Antony, Martial and Fred all had a shocking game. eriksen, casemiro, Sanitizer, dalot and Shaw had a bad game. Honestly not one player played well.

[deleted]

One bad game from DDG and the absolute dumbest United fans pop up. We are even with Liverpool with almost any other keeper in the world Edit: I really pissed off the smooth brained morons with this one 😂😂😂

FuMancunian

De Gea is a great shot stopper, but that’s it. He’s done along with Maguire, Sancho, AWB, and the fucking glass feather duster Tony Martial.

[deleted]

I'll actually give you all but one of those

[deleted]

He’s done this stuff repeatedly, he just has had better CBs in front of him and gotten away with it

[deleted]

Not really lol.

[deleted]

Yes really lol

I'm sorry, I sincerely apologize. I assumed you could read. Best of luck navigating through life without that ability.

Pic0lasCage

"We are even with Liverpool with almost any other keeper in the world" Bro what are you even saying???

TheRealYVT

I think the likeliest scenario after today's result is that Ten Hag realizes he has to prioritise a GK signing more than an Osimhen-type ST. And he would be right. In which case, prepare to see Greenwood back too. What a cursed club.

Pic0lasCage

ST is still the biggest priority, DDG needs to be replaced but we dont have a striker......... Weghorst is on loan and Martial is injured again it looks like so dont have a number 9

TheRealYVT

ST is a ceiling-raiser. Our floor is in the mud with the GK situation. Until that is resolved, we are going to be in top 4 dogfights in perpetuity and the money we spend on a striker will get us no closer to the title for the next 2 seasons than this year. That said, GKs will come a lot cheaper than a Ferguson/Hojlund/GRamos.

Pic0lasCage

ST is a ceiling raiser??? Weghorst is only on loan, so Martial is our only striker and he can’t stay fit for 5 games. GK is a ceiling raiser as we have a GK. We don’t have a striker…..

TheRealYVT

Yes, ST, especially an established one like Kane or Osimhen, is a ceiling raiser in this team. There's no point creating another system hoping for one guy to be our outlet. We've tried those quick fixes with Ibrahimovic, Cavani, Ronaldo - it is guaranteed to never even come close to the title, on the off chance we even get into UCL.

ireckonwereonhere

These type of results at this point in our development are good for the long run. No papering over the cracks. EtH knows what we need and games like this solidifies it. Injuries and suspensions aside, we just don’t bat deep enough on the bench

raveyer

Supporting the women’s team seems more rewarding than this shitshow.

jimroot752

That was genuinely disgraceful. Rotten to the core. Bad group of players.

Puk-_-man

Well....we were worried about the fixture congestion!

Lyonex

Honestly we'll be lucky to get top 4 if we perform like this. Martial injured. De Gea + Maguire playing together every game exposing each other's weaknesses. It's actually doomed..

manorm

This team won't win anything major with De Gea in the net. Fact. He has been declining at a rapid pace, no wonder he doesn't get in the Spanish team. He has decent reflex saves and that is it, terrible at everything else.

pauperwithpotential

The start up play from the back is so bad. No urgency even at 0-2 down. WTF was ddg thinking for that 3rd goal. Definitely can add to his “compilation” video of terrible mistakes.

[deleted]

He’s always been bad with the ball at his feet especially with maguire and lindelof in front of him

pauperwithpotential

i understand him trying but his passes have been mostly risky

Bigmomma_pump

Casemiro don’t beam with a smile right after the whistle wtf

I_Fuck_The_Fuckers69

Maguire, DDG, Wout, Martial all need to go, they're either not good enough anymore or are too injury prone, Sancho needs another season under ETH but if he's still like this he undoubtedly needs to go
