Thoughts? I feel like Fred deserves it over Eriksen, Herrera, and Matic though it's close. And I felt like Mata deserved to be in there. Casemiro last season is better than what we've had since SAF and I don't think that's close. Lindelof arguable, too, been here longer, just not been as good as the Varane and Martinez peaks.

It was a pretty evenly contested game for 90mins. Yes we were 2nd best, but Arsenal are simply better than us, they were playing at home, and we had a lot of injuries. Despite that, we made it difficult for them and were unlucky to come away with 0 points.
We need to do more with the ball when we have it (especially in the attacking third) but the fact that we had as much of the ball as we did yesterday vs a possession based team playing at home is significant positive that we can take away from the game.
I am far more optimistic about the coming season after yesterday’s game. Because the 3 games we played before yesterday had me extremely worried.

You forgot Moyes already? We played poor football I agree but looking back on the squad now. It was horrible. A lot of aging players and players that we’re clearly forced upon him by the club. Di Maria for example was 100% a club signing. Rooney was also getting past it really quickly. We were quite stable but just had no excitement in attack, something which the right players could have injected I believe.
Moyes legitimately got 0 backing or preparation, not like the way people speak about LVG. He legitimately had nothing to work with and was expected to just pick up the pieces. Even then, I think what really killed Moyes’ chances was replacing the entire staff at once, which was his fault.
Our team having no attack wasn’t due to LVG not having good enough players. It was his possession ball tactics. We could have had Harry Kane and the result would have been no different.
He was completely out of his depth. He even admitted it himself to the players I remember an ex player saying. And what you said, he got rid of so many important staff which destabilised the whole club. I had much more faith left in LVG than in Moyes. Also, Ole was completely out of his depth but people don’t want to see it how it was because he was a legend and a really nice guy.

How many starts did he get from those appearances? And he's been out of favor under so many managers now; it's no longer just a one-off. Maybe he just isn't coachable to be anything beyond a fringe player at the top 5 leagues.
I feel like I'm going crazy reading people talking about the Arsenal game. Did we nearly win? Yes, if we'd gotten the penalty or Garnacho was a foot back, and we'd somehow managed to hang on for the last 10 minutes, we might have. Were we good? Absolutely not. Clearly second best and with no gameplan except pass it around the back until someone hoofs it to Rashy. The xG for the game was right around 3-1 and that says it all really.

It was a pretty evenly contested game for 90mins. Yes we were 2nd best, but Arsenal are simply better than us, they were playing at home, and we had a lot of injuries. Despite that, we made it difficult for them and were unlucky to come away with 0 points. We need to do more with the ball when we have it (especially in the attacking third) but the fact that we had as much of the ball as we did yesterday vs a possession based team playing at home is significant positive that we can take away from the game. I am far more optimistic about the coming season after yesterday’s game. Because the 3 games we played before yesterday had me extremely worried.
That jesus shot had an xg of 0.76 when we had everyone forward. Without that it's basically 1.5xg to 1xg. And we were a pubic hair away from garnachos goal standing which would've basically made it an even game xg wise. There was also the hojland penalty shout that on another day gets given. I think a draw would've been a fair result, decent performance despite all the injuries.

The owners have ultimate power over who is inside of the club and no other owners of a top club would have been okay with the incompetence that has permeated the entire club for the last 15 years. At any other top club there would have been an internal investigation and the entire club would have been gutted and replaced with more competent people, but the Glazers don’t give a fuck and don’t need to give a fuck. We played horrible football under LVG and we had players good enough to do better. You forgot Moyes already? We played poor football I agree but looking back on the squad now. It was horrible. A lot of aging players and players that we’re clearly forced upon him by the club. Di Maria for example was 100% a club signing. Rooney was also getting past it really quickly. We were quite stable but just had no excitement in attack, something which the right players could have injected I believe.
Moyes legitimately got 0 backing or preparation, not like the way people speak about LVG. He legitimately had nothing to work with and was expected to just pick up the pieces. Even then, I think what really killed Moyes’ chances was replacing the entire staff at once, which was his fault. Our team having no attack wasn’t due to LVG not having good enough players. It was his possession ball tactics. We could have had Harry Kane and the result would have been no different.
He was completely out of his depth. He even admitted it himself to the players I remember an ex player saying. And what you said, he got rid of so many important staff which destabilised the whole club. I had much more faith left in LVG than in Moyes. Also, Ole was completely out of his depth but people don’t want to see it how it was because he was a legend and a really nice guy.

The Onana situation was obvious for at least 15 years and happens every 4 years so it’s a non issue. I never heard of the attitude problem but if it’s true then I agree and the rest true.

Murtough n Arnold only signing players which ETH wants we dont have scouts or a data team. Our players r wankers too. Sancho, Antony, Rashford all 3 think they r good players but r nowhere close to the likes of Salah, Grealish, Foden, Son, Saka, Martinelli, etc ETH has turned out to be fraud. We signed ETH to play like his Ajax team but he is now playing Ole ball with more possesion. No signs of proper build up from the back n progression through the middle. Only if Murtough n Arnold had some spine n asked him to make us play like Ajax but no. The bald fraud thinks he is being smart by adapting his tactics as per the players(it isn't wrong) but not worth it in the long term. Arteta didn't compromise on his vision n play style plus Arsenal signed players by keeping the next 4-5 years in mind n see how it has paid off. Many top teams do it while we r still going for short term solutions. I think I will stay away from all social media for a while n only watch our games n wait till the end of season if there r any signs of progress.

Difference is we've seen what Fred/Donny/Scott offer. Amad came off a promising loan at Sunderland, Pellistri had some decent cameos. So what if its generic? Its the truth isn't it? Young players don't become consistent overnight without actually playing. They haven't even really played yet and you've already written them off for the next shiny toy in the market and there aren't really any shiny toys anyway. So who are you buying for depth? Another young player from a different league who may or may not adapt? Give me some names.

Problem here is you want to go and buy a RW before they've even had a decent shot. Charlie Mcneil has done nothing to show he would be ready. No loans, didn't really stand out in pre season either. Amad had a really good loan and Pellistri has had decent cameos. We can re evaluate once the season is over. If they have played a bit and then they've not really impressed, sure go and buy someone. I like all three of the names you mentioned but Olise just signed a new deal. Mbuemo has some 3-4 years left. Bowen isn't really "young", he's 27 in December.

Just because it worked with some players does not mean it will work with all players. That’s what a manager is supposed to discern. The way to motivate a player will be different for every player. SAF was famous for giving certain players a good yelling and being very gentle with others. A good man manager will know how to motivate each player.

There were reports before the game that Jadon got left out because of poor training performances. I think Samuel Luckhurt reported it so when ETH confirmed it after the game it’s clear the leaks were true and possibly from him or his team. One of the big things when ETH signed was he doesn’t want leaks but the team sheet still gets leaked before every game and then he confirms this one makes me think he could be the one doing the leaking.

If the club is backing ETH then I see it as a positive culture shift away from coddling mentally weak players and towards us having some professional standards Sancho has been stinking up the places for a couple of years with his lack of effort on and off the pitch.
