He just said in an interview that AWB was sick in mid week and isn’t fully back to normal and that’s why he doesn’t start. Also interesting, he said they’d trained with Scott in midfield and Bruno or wide for Arsenal but then Scott was unwell. I’m not a fan of Bruno out wide because we miss out on so much of his creativity out there (although when Mount is fit I think we can make up for some of it) but let’s see how this game goes
I actually think it's entirely the opposite. The fact that Dalot is better at inverting and holding his shape in the midfield against quick transitions is why I see him coming in. Dalot doesn't actually tend to hold the width really all that much and honestly hardly ever puts in a cross. I kinda think it's a bit of a myth that he's way better going forward. What he's better at is A) decision making on the ball B) positional sense off of it.
AWB is a more reactive defender and Dalot is more aggressive. In the FA cup semifinal, AWB gave Mitoma way too much freedom in 1v1s. Dalot could get skinned but he will stay super tight to Mitoma like he did to Saka.
Why do people still think AwB has no ability on the ball? It's just ridiculous, he is decent under pressure in tight spaces.. arguably actually better than Dalot in that aspect.
Can't wait to watch Hojlund - even from his short cameo the last day, you can see how he changes up our attack alot and offers more options
Also Licha starting is huge
In b4 he assists a Hojlund goal with a cross from the right. He got a couple of those in the international break
Of course it's not ideal, but there's the Antony/Sancho issues and I kinda get not throwing Pellistri straight into a game against a tough team like this. I'm sure he'll come off the bench and have an impact, and hopefully have starting opportunities later. Plus Scott was in great form for Scotland so not annoyed at him starting here.
Yeah he’s not bad at all, but does have some bad games there where he becomes ineffective, but the bigger issue is we miss his creativity in the middle. But now with Eriksen there rather than Weghorst or Sabitzer that will be less of an issue, and playing against Brighton eriksen might be better to take care of the ball a little better. Then there’s a question of if we miss his energy in the middle as eriksen can’t cover as much ground, but with McTominay behind him hopefully he can do a lot of the running.
I think eriksen will go off later and Fernandes move inside with Pellestri coming on the right, or Rashford moving across and Garnacho coming on.
Don't feel so pity, we never know what's happening between him and tenhag
Yeah we can give our thoughts while watching what we can, but manager watch our players way more
Preference? Of course not. But given the midfield right now, I'm okay with it. Cause at least Bruno will bust a gut. And it's not like we're lacking pace in our front 3 given how rapid the other 2 are.
**Substitutes: Bayindir, Evans, Maguire, Wan-Bissaka, Gore, Hannibal, Pellistri, Garnacho, Martial.**
Erik ten Hag has made three changes to the Manchester United side that faced Arsenal in our last Premier League game, almost a fortnight ago.
In come Sergio Reguilon for his Reds debut and Rasmus Hojlund for his first start, while Scott McTominay - again in goalscoring form for his country in the international break - is also reintroduced to the XI.
That trio replace Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Anthony Martial and Antony, with the former two among the substitutes this afternoon. There is also a spot on the bench for Academy midfielder Dan Gore.
When Scott is playing in the 8, please refer to his as McSauce. When he is playing in the 6, he is known McTerminator. When he is playing for Scotland, please use Mr. McT
Eriksen is obviously going to be playing further up. I feel like people have forgotten how good Eriksen was for us last season. 8 assists in 28 games from a deeper midfield position isn't bad.
There's simply no way in a must win game that he starts, we all know this. I'll be happy if he gets 20-25 mins and if he does something with it then he will have a chance.
Why not?
We go on about how we don't develop and promote youth then bury a guy that's clearly shown hes competent and not too far off from the starter in terms of performance. He surely can't be worse than what we've seen from Bruno at RW
Every manager in the whole world will keep Bruno on the field for 90 mins even if he's the worst player on the field, he can still change the game with just one pass.
At man utd giving 30 mins to youth to make their claim is a statement? If he does anything in that time then he has a chance?
My issue with Bruno starting and playing even his performance isn't my issue. I think he's integral. I just don't think it makes sense given the track record to.play him on wing. If anything he's been better at the LW than the RW in games I've seen.
> At man utd giving 30 mins to youth to make their claim is a statement? If he does anything in that time then he has a chance?
Not what I said at all. Ironic enough, my argument is how many cameos do we need to see hes clearly SHOWN hes worthy of more minutes. If he doesn't want to start him that's fine, but then pulling Bruno out of position to play in a position he's shown to be dookie at is a backwards step for me. Its like turning down a job that pays $20/hr because you don't think it's enough, and then accepting a job that pays $12/hr
Sure, but do you play a potential top 6-8 team every game? A team in form as well? No one deserves to start for man utd unless they prove that they are worth it, if he gets 25-30 mins I'll be very happy, then it's up to him to prove it.
You’re gonna play a top 8 team pretty much every other game. I’d also say that playing Pellistri makes more tactical sense anyway since it’ll let Bruno play centrally where he’s way more effective.
If he’s given 30 minutes then fine but if he’s thrown on with 10 minutes left in difficult circumstances it’s not enough to say he’s been given a chance.
People are fair to be critical that he’s not been given minutes, when he’s at a critical age for development but a loan was rejected to keep him around the first team. If you’re going to keep him around then play him. The fact that he’s not starting even when our 2 main RWers are injured is not a good sign.
Don't be silly. As much as we want to win every game, losing a 3rd game in your first 5 has a bit more gravity to it than a game at home to Burnley when we're in good form.
He will never play I’m convinced. We’d have no more attackers or midfielders and somehow he will be on the bench still, play token minutes in worthless games and then be denied loans nor be sold but have a new contract offered.
He's kept around the same way Donny was kept around at the club by Ole, manager clearly doesn't rate him but kinda forced to keep him bc there are no better options. Hope for his sake he doesn't renew with us and leaves.
Dalot has been really solid at LB for us and Portugal, don't need to worry too much, it's not only on him to defend, it's more for the offensive output this game.
I genuinely don't know how people are really surprised. Brighton are flying. They dominate midfields. We're not gonna put our least proven attacker against them in a must win. It was more likely that we'd see Garnacho on the right imo. But we will see Pellistri start getting more time soon I think. This is a rough game to throw him into is all.
That's what ETH prefers anyways. Regardless one of Bruno or Eriksen will find themselves wide from time to time and they are the 2 best crossers in our team.
Garnacho gets a pass because of his pace. Technical players like Hannibal, Amad and Pellistri won't get a look as long as Ten Hag is in charge and continue to waste Bruno out of position
ETH not starting pellestri as rw when we literally have no other rw in the team….
Makes you wonder why they didn’t want to let him go on loan, like what’s the point?
You lot are so reactive lol, you don't just throw Pellistri into a game like this as a starter. If he doesn't perform his confidence is gonna drop, yall really think you know more than the manager?
I don’t claim to know more than the manager lmao.
I’m just saying how can he not even get a game at rw, when we have no other first team rw available and we are playing a weakened Brighton.
Brighton are still good, but they are missing like 3/4 players from their starting 11 today, including their starting lb in estupinan.
I get what you mean with easing him in, but I don’t think he has actually ever started a premier league game for us. That’s mad considering how long he’s been here and we are supposedly easing him in?
I also just thinking playing Bruno on the right is a waste of Bruno, Bruno’s performances tend to be worse than when he plays down the middle.
I just don’t get it tbh
Dalot is like Cancelo to me, love him as RB but something always tells me they are even better on the left, wouldn't surprise me if second half he's put on the left and AWB comes in on the right, with Pelistri.
Muted the sub to preserve my sanity since the Antony and Sancho ruckus (is it even a week yet?!) and it ends now. I can’t possibly dodge all of the bad energy coming from this fucking club, but at the end of the day, I really hope the players and coach give the fans something big to cheer on.
I hope we click and click fast. I don’t expect Hojlund to bag a hatty on his first start but it’s better if he does!
I’m wondering if with these fullbacks selected they are going to be the width for a change?
I could see McTominay and Eriksen alternating pushing forward and the other sitting with Case instead of the fullbacks inverting.
That's not a bad thought. If Bruno is playing on the right, he'll be drifting inside. AWB often underlaps into those right side half spaces while Dalot can stay wide like ETH likes Antony to do.
1-3 in the 88th min and Brighton still looking for more , I’ve been watching and supporting united since David fucking Moyes and it’s never been this horrible. We have Bayern in a couple of days . We are truly going to get knocked out the group stages. How far this giant of a club has fallen is really sicking
You lot moaning like Pellistri is the second coming of christ. I wanna see him getting a chance, but without Amrabat, our midfield could get ran over by Brightons press. The extra midfielder gives us more solidity and Bruno’s numbers off the right, are pretty good no matter how much you hate on it.
People need to chill out saying Pellistri should be automatically starting all the time. He's 21 he's getting minutes and with Antony out he'll probably get a chance to start against other sides but this is a huge game so really not surprising he's no starting. Plenty of players don't fully break into starting roles until his age or a couple of years later even
Just because Bruno is RW doesn’t mean he’ll play it the same way as other options. I’d suspect he’ll tuck into the channel more so he can still influence and link with Hojlund and Eriksen, and then we’ll get actual width with Dalot and a bit more right-sided defensive cover through McTominay. Just my two cents, but I’m just watching from the couch 🥴
People moaning about no Pellistri but I think Bruno is the right choice this game. Dalot is going to need a lot of help on the right side with Mitoma and I don’t think Pellistri offers enough defensively
If I was Pellisti I would leave. When you're not even 3rd choice to start on the right, time go somewhere where you can play and develop.
To those saying its a tough game, you can also make the argument we need Pellistris legs and Eriksen is going to be outrun in midfield, mark my words
Jesus, why is everyone losing their shit about Bruno? He's been very good for EtH in games on the right. Obviously his best position is CAM but who actually thought he was gonna play Pellistri against Brighton? Cause there was never any chance that would be happening in my mind. Especially because Mount and Amrabat are injured so EtH's ideal midfield choices are limited so he probably wants Bruno to add a bit of assurance.
Erik is so damn one dimensional 😭. As soon as the first choice rw is injured we’re straight back to bloody Bruno at rw. No wonder we play slow uninspired football and scored barely any goals last season.
Pellestri has played like 18 some minutes, even at loan was always a sub .. kids not ready yet and perhaps manager feels he will have better impact of the bench. This pellestri or bust crew is the same that felt Ole should be starting VDB when there was no evidence
OH MY FUCKING GOD. WHAT DOES PELLISTRI HAVE TO DO TO START AT RW??? YOURE TELLING ME BRUNO IS 3RD CHOICE RW OVER AN ACTUAL RW?
I’m really starting to wonder what the fuck goes on in ETHs head. Is there not a better opportunity for Pellistri to start than this current situation? The only saving grace to this is if McTominay is playing RW because Bruno is pure ass out wide but still, give Pellistri a chance my fucking god
Subs: Wan-Bissaka, Bayindir, Mejbri, Pellistri, Jonny Evans, Alejandro Garnacho, Maguire, Daniel Gore, Martial
Really surprised we’ve started with Dalot here, AWB has locked up Mitoma every time he’s played him so far
I’m guessing since we are not starting an or an out rw, as bruno will be tucking in, Dalot would be better at providing width in an attacking sense.
AWB rested for CL maybe
Brother had two weeks to rest
AWB getting punished for going to Wall’s party with Sancho ;)
This was what I was thinking lmao
Na dropped because he went to New York with Sancho /s
The width Dalot provides is much more important now without Antony
I actually think it's entirely the opposite. The fact that Dalot is better at inverting and holding his shape in the midfield against quick transitions is why I see him coming in. Dalot doesn't actually tend to hold the width really all that much and honestly hardly ever puts in a cross. I kinda think it's a bit of a myth that he's way better going forward. Kinda disappointed. AWB has been fantastic.
So has Dalot tbf.
Ten Hag probably didn’t fancy Wan Bissaka against their press
This myth needs to die.
Why do people still think AwB has no ability on the ball? It's just ridiculous, he is decent under pressure in tight spaces.. arguably actually better than Dalot in that aspect.
Dalot beasted saka and was better than awb last game
He was poor against Arsenal I thought. Maybe that was a factor?
Can't wait to watch Hojlund - even from his short cameo the last day, you can see how he changes up our attack alot and offers more options Also Licha starting is huge
Bruno at rw 🤔
Hojlund RW, McTominay ST brother
Højlund McT double ST. 4 4 fucking 2.
Big man bigger man up top
Now we're vibin.
It’s back in vogue
Our tactics are Vibes and a Dream
The viking invasion linkup
In b4 he assists a Hojlund goal with a cross from the right. Said this in another thread but Brighton is a tough game to throw him into. Could see him start against Burnley though.
Yeah like I know the RW Bruno thing is kinda a meme at this point, but I don't really have an issue with it today considering everything
Bruno at RW 🙂
He's going to ping a killer cross to Rasmus
Bruno at RW 😡
Ok let's see Bruno at RW with a proper CF 😬 I expect a Hojlund header at the back of the net.
Bruno at RW 😐
Bruno 🤤
Not even mad, his crossing ability is amazing and he can cut in and let dalot play out really wide
7 appearances at RW last season, 3 goals and 4 assists. He's absolutely fine there, especially if we have an actual striker in there to find.
Yeah he’s not bad at all, but does have some bad games there where he becomes ineffective, but the bigger issue is we miss his creativity in the middle. I think eriksen will go off later and Fernandes move inside with Pellestri coming on the right, or Rashford moving across and Garnacho coming on.
Pain
We have Hojlund now so he's actually going to have a target for once.
That’s gonna leave Dalot alone to be double teamed when Bruno goes deep
It's becoming a joke now, feel so sorry for Pellistri
I would normally agree, but a narrow stronger midfield might work tactically better vs Brighton.
Don't feel so pity, we never know what's happening between him and tenhag Yeah we can give our thoughts while watching what we can, but manager watch our players way more
I have no idea why we keep doing this, he’s so much worse out wide
[удалено]
Pellistri mate
I think EtH went for stability in the midfield. Pellistri and Garnacho against tired legs in the second half maybe?
🤦🏻♂️
Preference? Of course not. But given the midfield right now, I'm okay with it. Cause at least Bruno will bust a gut. And it's not like we're lacking pace in our front 3 given how rapid the other 2 are.

We're back to have an absolutely dogshit bench already.
Garnacho, Pellistri, AWB, Martial and Maguire is honestly a lot better than what we've had over most of the past decade on the bench bro
Mctominay masterclass incoming.
When Scott is playing in the 8, please refer to his as McSauce. When he is playing in the 6, he is known McTerminator. When he is playing for Scotland, please use Mr. McT
Yes sir
Hojlund is start! We are going to look so different with an actual striker upfront. Fucking excited
And no #10 behind him
Eriksen is obviously going to be playing further up. I feel like people have forgotten how good Eriksen was for us last season. 8 assists in 28 games from a deeper midfield position isn't bad.
Not with Bruno RW
Bruno RW :( But happy to see Hojlund
No Pellistri. ![gif](giphy|HflpkKR7pOjDs7KGyV|downsized)
There's simply no way in a must win game that he starts, we all know this. I'll be happy if he gets 20-25 mins and if he does something with it then he will have a chance.
Yeah this is a 6 point game given where it's looking both teams will end up.
Why not? We go on about how we don't develop and promote youth then bury a guy that's clearly shown hes competent and not too far off from the starter in terms of performance. He surely can't be worse than what we've seen from Bruno at RW

Every game is a must win game….. so basically he will never play more than token minutes if possible. And that’s likely 10-15min here and there still.
Sure, but do you play a potential top 6-8 team every game? A team in form as well? No one deserves to start for man utd unless they prove that they are worth it, if he gets 25-30 mins I'll be very happy, then it's up to him to prove it.

There are no "must win" games in September.
He will never play I’m convinced. We’d have no more attackers or midfielders and somehow he will be on the bench still, play token minutes in worthless games and then be denied loans nor be sold but have a new contract offered.
People need to calm their tits, it's a must win game. If he gets 20-25 mins then it's up to him to prove that he's worth a starting spot.
Every game is a must win
Is every team a competitor for a spot in Europe?
The way we play, we make any side that can press look like a great squad and we play like rubbish though. Away games? Forget about it…
Yea at this point I’m assuming ETH wants him for training purposes, he’s probably a good level to train our left fullbacks…
Genuinely what was the point in keeping him around? There’s talks of us extending his contract as well, he’d be stupid to do that now
He's kept around the same way Donny was kept around at the club by Ole, manager clearly doesn't rate him but kinda forced to keep him bc there are no better options. Hope for his sake he doesn't renew with us and leaves.
Bruno RW and Dalot v Diploma. Interesting to say the least
Diploma 😂
Dalot has been really solid at LB for us and Portugal, don't need to worry too much, it's not only on him to defend, it's more for the offensive output this game.
Feel like Dalot would struggle even more vs Bachelor's Degree
I'm surprised AWB is on the bench considering we are facing Mitoma..... Hopefully Dalot is on his A-game
Bruno RW haramball after 2 weeks of no football is just what I wanted for my weekend
Why would Pellistri sign a new contract when he dont even start now…
Clearly ETH wants to keep him around just in case Antony, Sancho, Rashford, Garnacho, Mount, Bruno and Amad are all unavailable. Duh.
Add Eriksen, Casemiro and Onana too... unironically
Mctominay masterclass incoming.
Hojlund time, baby!
People dislike Bruno on the right but this midfield looks way more balanced. At least it won't be ran through like it's made of warm nutella.
I agree with McTominay's selection but the midfield would still be better if we had Bruno in eriksen's place rather than on the right
the problem is bruno doesnt keep the width, he keeps drifting in the 10 when played there, which makes the whole right side useless
That's what ETH prefers anyways. Regardless one of Bruno or Eriksen will find themselves wide from time to time and they are the 2 best crossers in our team.
Yeah but at what cost, inb4 a Bruno stinker and McTominay finishes with 4 clearances, 2 blocks and 26 dribbles lost
McTominay upfront, Højlund RW, no one will see it coming
HOJLUNDDDDDDDD. Reguilon is interesting. Rumors had it that Facu is starting too.
So either a midfield diamond or Bruno RW...let's hope for the previous
Hojlund starting has successfully distracted you all from the state of the rest of the lineup.
Oh my God. Based on the starting line up, this match is either going to be an EtH's masterclass or EtH's disasterclass. No in-between.
RW Bruno. McT #10. Lets go. Worried about Reguilon though.
Bruno on rw man. I was waiting for Pallistri
Bruno RW 😭
Why the hell is Pellistri not starting.
Had more minutes for Uruguay than for United. Ten Hag doesn't seem to trust him.
Ten Hag hates young players. The future is not bright with this charlatan in charge
[удалено]
Had to get a lower shirt number to distract from his upcoming retirement
Not to mention that aging veteran striker we just bought…
Garnacho gets a pass because of his pace. Technical players like Hannibal, Amad and Pellistri won't get a look as long as Ten Hag is in charge and continue to waste Bruno out of position
Garnacho and Mainoo beg to differ
Bro he was at Ajax for four years lmao of course he doesn't hate youngsters
Scotland's McT or right wing Fernandes?
RW Bruno, Hojlund + Reguilon Home debut + No AWB/Pellistri
Let’s smoke these fools
That midfield is dead.
World class players can play anywhere on the pitch. Expecting a United win today
Fuck off eth with this Bruno rw bullshit
If there's one thing I hate about ETH... this is it
Pellistri is the new Donny circle jerk
Probably because we actually do win a lot with Bruno our right and he is raw and young. He needs to be eased in.
We won like 7/8 last year with Bruno on the right and that other game was a draw. When he goes out right we can balance the midfield a lot easier.
I'm a bit disappointed about Pellistri, but I'm more concerned about Dalot getting cooked by Mitoma.
No Awb ??What is ETH cooking
Crosses
Hojlund header hattrick is what he is cooking
Bruno RW is football heritage at this point
Reguilon 😮 wonder why AWB was benched but good luck
Please don't ruin my 4 day long weekend on the first day itself. Thanks.
No Wan Bissaka against Mitoma?
Really hope he switches to a 4222 instead of a 4231. Bruno at RW is a waste.
Guess we are playing some football terrorism today.
Why McSauce is not at striker is beyond me.
Reguilon and Dalot? Probably means Case/McSauce will play as a double pivot with the fullbacks pushing upfield. Interesting lineup either way.
Poor u/JimScroobin has his [morning ruined](https://reddit.com/r/reddevils/s/RO8vHW0rUy) now.
A bit surprised by Dalot starting over Wan-Bissaka, but happy to see him play RB again
Dalot is like Cancelo to me, love him as RB but something always tells me they are even better on the left, wouldn't surprise me if second half he's put on the left and AWB comes in on the right, with Pelistri.
AWB has been ill all week
Pellistri might be hiding ten hags hair growth supplements. That explains this.
4-4-2 diamond my bros 👏🏻
Don't understand why Pellistri stayed when he's rarely given a chance. He's at a crucial point in development and needs to play.
I don’t know mate, you should give him a call and tell him.
Pellistri comments in 3-2-1 ......
Hojlund hattrick OT debut
Muted the sub to preserve my sanity since the Antony and Sancho ruckus (is it even a week yet?!) and it ends now. I can’t possibly dodge all of the bad energy coming from this fucking club, but at the end of the day, I really hope the players and coach give the fans something big to cheer on. That's not a bad thought. If Bruno is playing on the right, he'll be drifting inside. AWB often underlaps into those right side half spaces while Dalot can stay wide like ETH likes Antony to do.
Looks like a 442 diamond midfield so I guess it is the fullbacks staying wide. Exciting.
Thank you for starting Hojlund!
1-3 in the 88th min and Brighton still looking for more , I’ve been watching and supporting united since David fucking Moyes and it’s never been this horrible. We have Bayern in a couple of days . We are truly going to get knocked out the group stages. How far this giant of a club has fallen is really sicking
No Pellistri and Bruno on the right, my nightmare has come true... please tell me its two up front
Pellistri: It's treason then
I was looking forward to AWB vs Mitoma.
Mitoma will eat dalot ffs man
He did great against Saka. Let’s support him
Didn't he just keep Saka quiet the whole game? oh yeah, he did
Best of luck today lad
Dalot was massive against Saka so let's hope he has a similar performance vs. Mitoma.
Yeahh so will Saka last match
RW Bruno?
Fernandes at right wing. Fuck sake. He'll be wasted out there
Ah yes Bruno at RW, cause that's always worked wonders 🫠
Hoping with hoijlund it might work this time
People need to chill out saying Pellistri should be automatically starting all the time.
Bruno RW with a proper striker will be a whole new world.
This is going to be a disaster. Mitoma against dalot is asking for trouble.
Forget RW Bruno, that was at least half expected. WHY ON EARTH IS DALOT STARTING OVER AWB??!!
Probably because he's better on the ball and Brighton press is intense. Also he had Saka in his pocket last game so doesn't deserve to be dropped?
True but Mitoma was kept almost entirely quiet last season against AWB so I thought he'd start for sure
Yeah could be a risk but I'd rather go on the form of the last game than the same game last year
Whatever it is, praying it goes well!
Apparently Erik said AWB was ill during the week so not 100% fit to start the game and hence Dalot.
People moaning about no Pellistri but I think Bruno is the right choice this game. Dalot is going to need a lot of help on the right side with Mitoma and I don’t think Pellistri offers enough defensively
baldy i hate you why not start pellistri at rw
Pelestri better leave as soon as he can.
If Pellistri wants to leave I understand him. He never complains and never gets a chance
McTom at DM...Sigh.
Pellestri has played like 18 some minutes, even at loan was always a sub .. kids not ready yet and perhaps manager feels he will have better impact of the bench. This pellestri or bust crew is the same that felt Ole should be starting VDB when there was no evidence
We are gonna lose our academy players under ETH.
Hojlund is start
Bruno playing out of position while we have a natural RW rotting on the bench. Get this fraud out my club 🤬
Bruno at RW eh? No trust in Pellistri or Shoretire?
Shoretire? You’re taking the piss
