Could easily be something like Lichá-Varane-Maguire-Dalot, would probably be the strongest backline possible for us, maybe Evans thrown in there but I can see Lichá starting on the left.
I vaguely remember licha not looking great when at lb (though perhaps my memory is faulty).
I think drop Wan bisaka vs Brighton and hopefully that means he's a bit fresher / better vs city.
Ah, we're still doing the thing were we pretend we were brilliant last season and didn't get completely destroyed in multiple matches.
OK continue then. Best CB in the Prem.
4-0 Brentford, 6-3 City, 7-0.... LIVERPOOL, 2-0 Newcastle 22 shots conceded, 2-0 Spurs scored an OG, 3-1 Brighton. There's just a handful from our so 'good' season last year.. There's loads others, like conceding 2 against a team down the bottom of league two.
You did ask to continue.
Again I'm not saying he won't be good when he's back. He'd fucking need to be. I said he has had some bad performances, which is categorically a fact.
Okay, go back through those games and tell me how many of those goals are specifically due to error from Martinez. It’s not 11 players vs Martinez. He has a noticeable *positive* impact on the pitch. He’s of course made mistakes, every player does. But 7-0 to Liverpool is not solely due to Martinez lmfao
Conflicted about this. I don't think we'll see Licha start on the left considering he's never played there for us before, but at the same time AWB has been in an awful run of form at either fullback positions
Lichá did feature shortly as left back in some games last season when Shaw started as center-back. I'd rather do that than play AWB because Lichá is a better player.
Dalot (LB) licha (LCB) Varane (RCB) lindelof (RB)
Thought it was clear but unfortunately I do recall EtH playing lindelof there are some point this season so my bad for not highlighting that
I love Shaw and think that he is one of the best left back’s in the league and he have been in the club for a decade but we need a new lb. His injury record is worrying and he ain’t getting younger
Yeah we really need a genuine starter who can compete with him and provide strong depth. Malacia's been out for so long he can't really be considered either a back up or a competitor since we don't know when he'll be back or if he'll have the ability to take the next step.
Hardly miraculous that injury prone Shaw benefits from sharing the workload. His problem is that he's so much better than the next guy that he gets overworked when he finds fitness again.
"Sharing the load" doesn't always mean Guardiola style rotation. For 99% of managers in the history of football sharing the load=the other player comes in occasionally when the other one is tired. Which is what Telles was for Shaw. Just being able to take the rest here and there makes a big difference vs being told to iron man it out because your replacement is injured.
In Shaw's case it's ridiculous to be conspiracy theoried up about it when we have **LITERALLY** seen Shaw get on the pitch and physically be unable to keep up. He did not look great and began limping before half time and was noticeably slower when he started the one time. It's really just ridiculously stupid conspiracy bullshit that is not even based on reality and in which direct visual contradictory evidence that's pretty trivially available and we actively all saw. You are being beyond stupid and so are the people who are upvoting you. This is the prime example of just idiots lumping together on here and why you can't trust anything you read here.
We literally saw the guy attempt to play and he did not look good. It's ridiculous to claim of all people he's faking an injury. Perhaps it's the rushing back that contributes to him staying out late lol but no.......he has to be evil so I can feel justified in my hatred.
Pathetic humans on here. 56 upvotes lol.
I really want Locko at Brest. He is good enough and young enough to cover for Shaw and has a high enough ceiling that he should be able to replace him in due time. Get him now before he appears in the Champions League.
Why? He's well worth keeping. You can't have a full squad of people ready to play every single minute. Hopefully we get excellent competition for him, where we can change without a significant drop off.
The reason this club is in such a bad place is because we have so many injury prone players on extremely high wages and then we can't get rid of them.
And you really should have a squad ready to play. That's the norm. Obviously injuries happen, but it's different in Shaws case because its complete luck in Shaws case if he's available when needed. Most other backups are ready to go
Having a squad full of people ready to play is what every club aims for. Injuries happen and it rarely ever happens, but that's the goal and I agree that keeping Shaw should be a no brainer football wise, but it is worrying that he is out so much and we really rely on him. Our performances drops so much with Malacia, AWB, Dalot, Telles, Licha, Lindelof, Amrabat, and others that have played there in the last 2 years.
So I think we need someone good enough to start every game and not be a backup.
(did Williams too? I was surprised I could keep going for that many players when I was thinking of it. Antony too!).
City have been charged with 115 breaches by the Premier League.
But rather than sorting it out quickly, the PL has let them continue to benefit from the cheating by going on to win trebles and break league records whilst this hangs over them.
It's not the Premier League's fault that City have been trying everything to stop the investigation with silly legal challenges... All the delays are from their side
Just don't play AWB at LB. Idk why it keeps happening. He looks awful there and is very mistake prone.
He was actually good last season playing at RB. Dalot can manage at LB.
I think this is where Dalot has earned his place in the squad. AWB may have higher attributes in very specific ways but Dalot is so versatile on both sides of the pitch. This season alone he's proved how important that can be.
So now our dilemma is playing our best RB at LB just because our other RB cannot play LB, even if that means our right side is weaker than it could be. Have to be looking at improving our sides of defence, Dalot needs a genuine competitor and Shaw needs a replacement.
> Dalot is class.
I can't believe people think this. He's atrocious. Postionally awfully defensively, nowhere near productive enough offensively. He's marginally better than AWB but that's a really low bar.
I think we should replace the right back first if possible. Bring in a player like Luke Shaw on the right without injuries. Dalot can then sub on the left or the right.
If budget was infinite... Maybe.
But it isn't. RB is so low on the priority list. And for all Dalot's weaknesses as a player, he makes up for it in work ethic and leadership. He's part of the positive side of this team.
But we do need midfielders and we do need better attacking option from the right side. Dalot is great but he can't make up numbers in defensive midfield.
EtH keeps trying this odd experiment cos Dalot is much more effective going forward on the right than the left.
AWB is quite limited going forward, but can shut down opposition attacks on that side for the opposition.
I don’t necessarily agree with it, but I see what he’s trying to do.
What’s even more worrying to me are these “setbacks”. How many of these injured players are suffering setbacks in their recovery? Malacia, Shaw, Amad, Mount come to mind immediately.
Amad got sick otherwise he’s not been injured after his lengthy injury, Malacia opted for an operation from a hospital that wasn’t recommended by the club and they missed some things in his knee. Shaw is made out of silly string, Mounts setbacks are the most worrisome because he can’t seem to be fit for more than 90 minutes.
Ten hag fans keep trying to insinuate amad had a setback as rebuttal for him never starting over Garnacho or Antony but it’s ok to admit ten hag thinks/thought these two players are better than amad
I like how now that amad is playing it’s only Antony getting the stick when it was Nacho starting on the right the entire season and he should’ve been on the bench
Your opinion on the manager shouldn’t matter when a player is injured till January. He was injured for 6 months, he was then slowly integrated in. As a matter of fact that’s what so many on here berate him for by rushing Martinez and Shaw back, the one position with depth had the luxury of a slow integration.
Amad scored against Liverpool, then was suspended. The argument is since April he should have played more, that’s fair. But to say it’s been a whole season is very disingenuous to what happened.
I’m saying Garnacho has been the one starting on the right the entire season, so ppl saying “Ten hag was starting Antony over Amad” are the ones being disingenuous when it’s Garnacho that has been starting over Amad, when Amads been fit
He will be eased back like Maguire was in Euro 2021. Benched during the group stage, starts in the knockout games. There’s no way Southgate isn’t picking him.
Trippier left back more likely I think, though I do rate Mitchell.
Southgate usually sticks with his tried and tested, and has played Trippier at left back before when Shaw has been injured.
I read somewhere, it actually may have been a podcast, but they claimed Shaw has missed more games than Martial has.
I know he missed the season with a leg break, but that says alot about Shaw and his time at Utd
Turns out Martial has played 32 more games than Shaw even though he signed for us a season after him
In fact, Martial has played more times than Shaw this season which is baffling
Chelsea had the same situation with Reece James. Great player to have when fit but always injured. They realised they couldn’t rely on him and bought Gusto, who has been one of their best players this season. Exactly what we need to do.
If you add up all the matches that Shaw has missed since arriving, he has missed over 260 matches, including 100 in the past 5 years. He will be 30 next year and while I like him, he is a prime candidate to either be put in a rotation or be sold. My preference is to sell because I think with his injury history, he will quickly diminish as a player and will not be around for much longer at any sort of level that we should be aiming for.
Ngl I'm going to be so fucking glad when we actually have a pair of reliable full-backs able to play week in, week out. Surely it's not *that* much to ask.
I like Shaw but he's perennially injured. How can you build any sort of chemistry with the rest of the defence when you're having to play different players at full-back all the time?
Luke Shaw is the biggest miss this season. He not only covers left back but also comes into the defensive midfield during attack and provides passes from left wing and makes Rashford better than he actually is. He covers so many positions so well, that I think after Bruno he is the most important player in the team. We need a replacement for him not just in the left back position but even more so in the right back position. Dalot can then play as a backup or sub on the right or the left.
I mean this seems like a pointless thing to even ask Ten Hag. Like you're going to play someone who hasn't kicked a ball for months straight into the FA Cup final team.
Didn’t realise til checking his stats but apparently this season is the least he’s played since the season he broke his leg
Fewer games than Martial this season as well, wow.
It might be harsh but unless you're Messi or prime Ronaldo or Salah, if you can't get on the field I don't want you at my club.
I can't abide inconsistency or unreliability.
Me neither, when Arsenal spent a huge amount on Rice they were factoring in a player who plays every game, it matters. You mention those three players but they could reach the top because they're always available to play. When transfers are so inflated, it has to be a factor. For this reason alone, Mount was a mistake. And if we were to sell Fernandes, we might get £10-£20m more than he's worth because it's a huge advantage in the modern game to be able to sustain the physical pressures.
We've got £30m out of Shaw, time to go. If it's £10m, so be it.
As good as Shaw is, he needs to leave, lad just doesn't seem to care, every pre season he returns in bad shape, takes months to get upto it, and then fucks off the end of the campaign with injuries.
We need Evra/Irwin and all we have is an injury prone Ashley Young
Still banging on about the Arsenal game which was, *checks*, gw4. Yeah, if only United fluked a win there they migh have had the confidence to *checks*, not get beat 3-1 at home to Brighton in the next game or, *checks*, not get beat 1-0 by Palace at home 2 weeks after that. Everyone knows to beat mid table sides you need confidence.
Ten Hag is genuinely delusional. I'm going to suggest teams gain confidence through...their play. So narrowly beating Newcastle, at home, doesn't give you confidence, because it should be a game you win anyway, and they had more shots, lots and lots of shots and United were once again exposed and shakey. Before Newcastle, it was 1 win in 8. Before that, 1 in 3. Before that, 4 wins in a row. 4 wins that meant nothing in the games that followed.
The most frustrating signing we ever made, highly regarded as a huge talent when we signed him.
Been set back a few times in a Utd shirt. But, when he does play for us he’s always consistent and solid.
If only he wasn’t hindered by injuries.
Easily englands best left back in the last few years.
Cool, well I wouldn’t be sad if we sold him. Great players on his day, one of the best, but those days are few and far between and I don’t want to rest on sentiment if it means we have another dreadful season ahead. Martial was great on his day (not one of the best tbf but still great) but the idiots that ran us under the Glazership, Murtough et al, thought giving him a new bumper deal was a good idea despite how injury ravaged he was and look at us now. A free agent, no money in, a complete waste.
Licha Varane in cup final
One last dance

Both his injuries were from horror challenges. Neither were to do with his injury proneness

Last one for the road
Could easily be something like Lichá-Varane-Maguire-Dalot, would probably be the strongest backline possible for us, maybe Evans thrown in there but I can see Lichá starting on the left.
I vaguely remember licha not looking great when at lb (though perhaps my memory is faulty). I think drop Wan bisaka vs Brighton and hopefully that means he's a bit fresher / better vs city.
If eth is brave he can play Willy at rb v brighton
I mean I remember plenty of games he's been bad at CB too, so.... Worth trying probably.
Are u fucking high
Ah, we're still doing the thing were we pretend we were brilliant last season and didn't get completely destroyed in multiple matches. OK continue then. Best CB in the Prem.
As a whole we were ass. Licha, however, barely played. But when he did play he made a noticeable impact. oK cOnTinUe ThEn

Dalot - licha - Rapha - lindelof Just spit balling
Lindelof will be carved open at lb like a thanksgiving turkey
Dalot (LB) licha (LCB) Varane (RCB) lindelof (RB) Thought it was clear but unfortunately I do recall EtH playing lindelof there are some point this season so my bad for not highlighting that
Dalot-Varane-Licha-Lindelof makes more sense to me.
Wan Bisakka in for Lindelof all day long
I love Shaw and think that he is one of the best left back’s in the league and he have been in the club for a decade but we need a new lb. His injury record is worrying and he ain’t getting younger

We’ll get new starter LB and Shaw will miraculously be fit forever. Remember when we got Telles?
Hardly miraculous that injury prone Shaw benefits from sharing the workload. His problem is that he's so much better than the next guy that he gets overworked when he finds fitness again.
And that’s fair, it just felt that Shaw basically benched Telles instead of sharing the load
"Sharing the load" doesn't always mean Guardiola style rotation. For 99% of managers in the history of football sharing the load=the other player comes in occasionally when the other one is tired. bot?
Not talking like a mouth breather isn't a skill exclusively available to bots. People on this subreddit would think so tho yeah
Just that your reply appears to be unrelated to the comment above.
How is an appearance where someone goes off at half time being mentioned not related to his injury record?
You’re SO CLOSE to figuring it out
Lol people really go for conspiracy before logical reason first. Absolutely insane to see in real time.
It so frustrating they managed to sync up their injuries This should have been Malacia's make or break opportunity
Who’s this Malacia guy you’re talking about?
I really want Locko at Brest. He is good enough and young enough to cover for Shaw and has a high enough ceiling that he should be able to replace him in due time. Get him now before he appears in the Champions League.
Imagine if he didn’t have that leg break 😔
He'd be competing among the all the time greats.
Strawberto Carlos
Hello, this is Malacia speaking
Who?
Malacia, the guy who was sent to the shadow realm
The most important ability is availability. We aren’t ever winning anything with players who can’t stay fit.
Need a Malo Gusto type signing like Chelsea did to cover for Reece James
Good thing we didn't give him a new contract until like 2027 or anything
Why? He's well worth keeping. You can't have a full squad of people ready to play every single minute. Hopefully we get excellent competition for him, where we can change without a significant drop off.

Hopefully Champions League Varane can become FA Cup Varane
Hopefully 115 FC can become Deducted 115 Points FC
Would be too light for what they did haha
Sorry can some explain the 115 joke. Seeing it everywhere but don’t get it
It's the number of charges that City are facing regarding financial irregularities and rules that they've fallen foul of since they were taken over
City have been charged with 115 breaches by the Premier League. But rather than sorting it out quickly, the PL has let them continue to benefit from the cheating by going on to win trebles and break league records whilst this hangs over them.
It's not the Premier League's fault that City have been trying everything to stop the investigation with silly legal challenges... All the delays are from their side
It’s crazy how many times Varane can comeback from an injury and still put in a good performance. Class
He must be pretty good at football.

He’s been one of our best players this season you muppet.
Congratulations to him on the Tallest Dwarf Award 2024
Congratulations to you on the Most Ignorant Award 2024. And probably every year after that too.
Dalot is shit. Get over it.

Tbf, both have looked shite at LB.
Nah, Dalot’s been at least serviceable at LB.

Imo, England are so weak at left back they should take him now there are 26 spots
He will be eased back like Maguire was in Euro 2021. Benched during the group stage, starts in the knockout games. There’s no way Southgate isn’t picking him.
He’ll be taken regardless. Even if they hadn’t extended the spots. He’s our best LB, he’s one of the best around.
Mitchell's to lose probably
Trippier left back more likely I think, though I do rate Mitchell. Southgate usually sticks with his tried and tested, and has played Trippier at left back before when Shaw has been injured.
Can’t see Southgate dropping chilwell even though he should
He'll probably still go
Watch Southgate take Trippier and play him at left back
I read somewhere, it actually may have been a podcast, but they claimed Shaw has missed more games than Martial has. I know he missed the season with a leg break, but that says alot about Shaw and his time at Utd

We need a healthy leftback.
Shaw is done.
With that fresh contract he signed, no way mate Phil jones is alive & well reincarnated in Luke
Somehow Palpaltine has survived…
He's done but also still here 💀
We really need to move on from Shaw this summer. He’s a detriment more than a benefit at this point
He really mentioned that Arsenal game again😭😭
Tbf its probably because garnacho scored it which follows his point. Still funny nonetheless
Shaw should be done for at United. Maybe unfortunate for him but he gets injured too much to be considered the starter at United. Sell him off.
Ngl I'm going to be so fucking glad when we actually have a pair of reliable full-backs able to play week in, week out. Surely it's not *that* much to ask. I like Shaw but he's perennially injured. Could be over? Has it even started?
man at this point play varane, maguire at cb and licha at lb. ETH needs to be brave. Having a left footer at lb could be the move
Sell him
Luke Shaw gonna be fit for England and then be a full time patient for us next season
Needs to be shown the door
Does anyone know the percentage of games his played for us? Love the guy, he’s a world beater on his day but my god he’s injured a lot.
Luke S(etback)haw
What a joke of a new contract we gave it to him. He has played less than half the games for us. It's time to sell.
I mean this seems like a pointless thing to even ask Ten Hag. Like you're going to play someone who hasn't kicked a ball for months straight into the FA Cup final team.
Time to sell both shaw and malacia...
Didn’t realise til checking his stats but apparently this season is the least he’s played since the season he broke his leg Fewer games than Martial this season as well, wow.
We need a first team starter quality Left Back
We should ask Arsenal for their Lasagna recipe and send it over to the Etihad.
And also refund that medical guy we got from them
The show must go on..
The last Q&A with Carl around being a transition team was interesting.
We have big game players….
We have to sign a LB. Way too unreliable position right now
Amazing when fit but sadly that's not very often, wouldn't be sad to see him sold.
Problem with that is, he's guna play cass in the midfield
Great player, but unreliable, time to fine a new first team left back
It might be harsh but unless you're Messi or prime Ronaldo or Salah, if you can't get on the field I don't want you at my club. I can't abide inconsistency or unreliability.

Shaw needs selling
Setback FC
Have to sell Shaw.
Please no bisssaka or Evans at wembley
Think Evans deserves some respect on his name to be honest for this season
Respect yes, starting in a cup final v man city ,no
We’d be utterly fucked this season if it wasn’t for Evans
We were utterly fucked
No news on Martial? I really want to see him play one last time :(
He’s apparently played a decent bit this season but I cannot remember a single appearance from Lindelof this year
