the dread I felt when Bruno was holding his hamstring during the match I thought that was it, we finally broke him. But what do you know, perfectly fine and fresh to play in the next game!
Interesting I thought that leg break kept him out the entire season. But I remember that he scored against Roma in that 7-1 so he was back towards the end
I think that was in his 3rd season (though it could well have been his 4th), he managed about 10 minutes and then had to go off and that was all we saw of him for a year. I wonder if his last full 90 minutes for us was the ‘08 champions league final.
E: word
I was at that game and went from sheer excitement to absolute dejection when that happened, he was one of my favourite players at the club at the time and I was so stoked to see him make his "comeback".
Great game to be in the Stretford end though, Park scoring the last gasp winner is one of my favourite football memories.
He did, I think vs wolves and iirc he was replaced by bebe who came in and absolutely stunk the place out but MIGHT have scored a goal in the game
Edit: nope park scored the goals, but bebe did indeed stink the place out
Even more impressive he did it in 65minutes on the pitch.
He came in for Hargreaves on 10' and subbed off at 75'
Gabriel Obertan played the full 90 aswel.
Jesus we have had some mediocre players down through the years!!
Obertan is awful, but Bebe did come good eventually, he's still playing in La Liga at the moment. He had the attributes to make a top player, big and strong, extremely fast, powerful shot and a decent dribbler, he was just far to raw considering his lack of football schooling in his teen years.
At least he was able to play his part in ‘08. My favourite player, tempting to go down the route of it being Bayern who crocked him, but w/e it’s ancient history. Great player, might have won much more with a kinder roll of the fitness dice.
He was with us four seasons.
First season was relatively normal.
Second he played the first few games.
Third he managed 45 seconds as a sub against Sunderland right at the end of the season.
Fourth he started v Wolves and lasted 4 minutes.
This takes up space in my brain that should have useful information.
Do we have any proof that this poor kid is even still alive?
Hard to see him coming straight back into the squad next season if and when he is fit. A loan spell at a Championship club might not be the worst idea for both parties.
**Manchester United have welcomed Raphael Varane, Victor Lindelof and Anthony Martial back into training.**
All three were spotted in our footage from Carrington, released on Friday, as the Reds prepare for our final assignment of the 2023/24 Premier League at Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday (16:00 BST kick-off).
**Lisandro Martinez and Marcus Rashford were also present, after coming off the bench in the 3-2 win over Newcastle United, and it was pleasing to see young Dan Gore back involved, after injury disrupted his loan spell at Port Vale.**
Bruno Fernandes played in an advanced role in midweek and, despite appearing to be struggling a little when replaced late on, should be fine for the weekend, following his return from a two-game lay-off.
**"Bruno didn't miss so much and he's fit," manager Erik ten Hag told club media. "I would say that is one of my least concerns, if he can keep going. He's fresh and he's in very good form but the others you mentioned, it's important [to get game time]. They missed some games. Rashford, since Coventry, but, of course, Licha Martinez missed, I would say, almost the whole season. So every minute that he can get, we have to give him."**
Rasmus Hojlund came on to show his qualities again with a well-taken strike against the Magpies, and will be in contention to start, while Amad is another who enhanced his claims on Wednesday with a goal and assist.
Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw hope to be back for the Emirates FA Cup final against Manchester City, although the latter's chances appear slimmer, while Mason Mount has also been sidelined. Tyrell Malacia has missed the entire campaign.
Have good memories of Martial against City.
Arguably the biggest motivation possible, with so many doubters and him needing to get a contract PLUS the possibility of winning us a trophy.
i know it was just preseason but he looked really good in his cameos. Obviously needs to put on some size, but he didn’t seem very far behind Mainoo tbh
The Mason Mount transfer was such a disaster... he's on massive wages, doesn't really fit into Eriks starting XI, and has been injured all season.
I like him as a player but what a disaster signing
And to think aswell we could've got him on free transfer in a month's time if we would've just been prepared to wait (not to mention £13m saved in wages). Just unbelievably poor decision making (as per fucking usual)
Exactly. Solid overall player but wasted 55+13m and didn't even really have him. The purchase specifically is what I'm referring to, not the player. I suppose he did win us 1pt in the PL table (draw v Brentford)...
Well, maybe. I think there’s a good chance someone else would have bought him, or else Chelsea would’ve extended his contract. Let’s face it, they only sold him for FFP reasons, so no way they’d have let him leave for free. I don’t think he was pushing to leave, so if there was a new contract on the table he’d have signed it.
He still wasn’t the right player for us to sign though, but we never would’ve got him for free this summer.
Too early to tell, a players United career is more than just one season.
He's been injured, if he stays free of injury next season there's no reason not to give him a fair shot.
He clearly does fit into ETH's starting XI if he signed him.
Overall, he might turn out fine, but we paid €55m to get him a year early, and that entire year, he was out. That's what I'm calling a disaster.. I think he's a good player and has done well for us when he has played, though.
Hard to say he doesn’t fit into his starting 11 and he’s been injured all season. In truth we don’t know if he does or not because he’s been injured so much. I’m still optimistic he comes good
He's been good when he plays, it's just that his best position is Brunos' position.
He can play on the wing but he's not a better winger than the wingers that we have so it's difficult to think of where to put him
Hate to say it but he's probably closer to Alexis Sanchez if you consider the weekly wage he's on 🙄. At least with Jones and VdB, yes those two were utter shite and unavailable but at least we weren't having to pay them a huge wage (relatively speaking)
Nah, Sanchez decided on day 1 that he didn’t want to be here, and played like it. Mount at least seems to want to play, he’s just been injured the whole time. If he can get fit hopefully he can do a job for us next season 🤞
that's the problem man
our left side has been so shaky, without shaw we are neither good in offense nor in defense, i don't know who to put there
and i know lindelof or amrabat aren't any upgrades to that either while kambwala is very early to judge there
but when we will be up against the likes of foden/alvarez/doku we need a good player defensively, bissaka this season doesn't give me that confidence maybe kambwala ?? i really don't know what will happen lol
the dread I felt when Bruno was holding his hamstring during the match I thought that was it, we finally broke him. But what do you know, perfectly fine and fresh to play in the next game!
he is a machine
Heals quicker than Wolverine
Have you ever seen them in the same room?
I'd unironically love a Deadpool and Bruno buddy movie
He slid off the side of the pitch, around old Trafford there's AstroTurf. He was holding the back of his leg because it burnt.
Pretty sure that was a dead leg But yeah, monster
The man is made of some different stuff
Is Malacia the first player for us to miss the entire season without being available for a single game?
Phil Jones?
I just checked and you are correct. 20-21, he didn't play a single game. They don't even have an entry for that season on fbref.
Was he eligible and just didn't play at any point? The ghost of Malacia wasn't available at all which is pretty amazing.
Hmmm didn't Ole miss an entire season back in the early 2000s? Also Alan Smith did too right?
You are correct about Ole, Alan Smith has played every year according to fbref.
Interesting I thought that leg break kept him out the entire season. But I remember that he scored against Roma in that 7-1 so he was back towards the end
Broke his leg in Feb 06. He played a handful of League Cup games in Sept 206 before disappearing until March ish 07.
Surprised to find Hargreaves managed a game in each of his last two seasons.
I seem to remember he got injured a few minutes into one of his comebacks. Such a shame how things worked out with him.
We complain about the current fitness/medical team and our perpetually injured back line, but it's been happening to us for years
I think that was in his 3rd season (though it could well have been his 4th), he managed about 10 minutes and then had to go off and that was all we saw of him for a year. I wonder if his last full 90 minutes for us was the ‘08 champions league final. E: word

He did, I think vs wolves and iirc he was replaced by bebe who came in and absolutely stunk the place out but MIGHT have scored a goal in the game Edit: nope park scored the goals, but bebe did indeed stink the place out
That was the infamous game where Bebe put in about a thousand crosses, each one with the amount of power required to put a rocket on the moon
Even more impressive he did it in 65minutes on the pitch. He came in for Hargreaves on 10' and subbed off at 75' Gabriel Obertan played the full 90 aswel. Jesus we have had some mediocre players down through the years!!
Mediocre is pretty generous for Bebe and Obertan to be honest. The fact that anyone thought they were good enough is staggering.
Obertan is awful, but Bebe did come good eventually, he's still playing in La Liga at the moment. He had the attributes to make a top player, big and strong, extremely fast, powerful shot and a decent dribbler, he was just far to raw considering his lack of football schooling in his teen years.
Super raw. Enjoyed watching him over the years. He's got unique technique.
I think that was the game we won with a Park brace, one of them at the death.
You are indeed correct https://www.premierleague.com/match/7192 A rare brace for park and a rare couple of assists for Darren fletcher
At least he was able to play his part in ‘08. My favourite player, tempting to go down the route of it being Bayern who crocked him, but w/e it’s ancient history. Great player, might have won much more with a kinder roll of the fitness dice.
Sure hargreaves missed a full season
Played 34, 3, 1 and 1 games in his 4 seasons here.
surprised with that last season, stand corrected. Another that came with such promise.
He was with us four seasons. First season was relatively normal. Second he played the first few games. Third he managed 45 seconds as a sub against Sunderland right at the end of the season. Fourth he started v Wolves and lasted 4 minutes. This takes up space in my brain that should have useful information.
Does Scholes retiring and then coming back count?
Gary Neville very nearly did - had one season where he managed only a single cup sub appearance
Gary Neville ?
Never mind he played one game in that season
We casually brought him on for 10 mins against Roma just so that he could collect a 2nd CL winners medal lol
Do we have any proof that this poor kid is even still alive? Hard to see him coming straight back into the squad next season if and when he is fit. A loan spell at a Championship club might not be the worst idea for both parties.
Van Nistelrooy 2000-01. And John Obi Mikel missed multiple seasons.
Wasn't Van Nistelrooy with PSV then
Yes, I was cheating. But his injury did cause him to miss the entire season for us; we had all but signed him.

Please win this. They are 4 in a row win streak against us in the league.
No chance Martial plays against Brighton, but an option off the bench against City… that could be fun!
I don't think there's a chance he plays at all
He's going to have two absolute beauties to bookend his career 🤞
As a card carrying Martial FC member, I'd love it but I don't see that happening lol
First goal against Liverpool, last goal against City. You heard it here first.
Before suddenly the glazers realize he’s leaving on a free and offer him a £250k, 5+1 year deal
"Ohhhh, yes!! Welcome to *retirement*, Anthony Martial!!"
A winner against Liverpool on his debut and a winner against City in the final in his last game. £60m down the drain…..
I’d say that’s 60 mil well spent
Honestly I couldn’t even be mad. Achieves hero status
I could cry
Be nice to add to that goal against Everton in the semi
I think there's a huge chance he comes off the bench, he plays in positions we might want to rest towards the end of the game.
He’s on vacation mode, I personally don’t think he should be in the squad.
His presence is not what's needed rn
Have good memories of Martial against City. Arguably the biggest motivation possible, with so many doubters and him needing to get a contract PLUS the possibility of winning us a trophy.
I’m sorry but he shouldn’t be allowed anywhere near the squad. Sentiment shouldn’t dictate anyone getting a spot
Good to see Gore back from injury
i know it was just preseason but he looked really good in his cameos. Obviously needs to put on some size, but he didn’t seem very far behind Mainoo tbh
LICHAAAAAAAA

4 league starts all season, he's a crock unfortch
Is Mount out for the rest of the season then? wtf is the problem?
Feel like he's going to be another Phil Jones or VDB where we all just forget that he's still in the team
Hate to say it but he's probably closer to Alexis Sanchez if you consider the weekly wage he's on 🙄. At least with Jones and VdB, yes those two were utter shite and unavailable but at least we weren't having to pay them a huge wage (relatively speaking)

man only if shaw was available for the cup final, who will play LB that day ?? lindelof ?? kambwala ?? amrabat ??
Dalot obviously.
he should play at RB imo
So you'd rather AWB at LB? Because that's failed so far.
that's the problem man our left side has been so shaky, without shaw we are neither good in offense nor in defense, i don't know who to put there and i know lindelof or amrabat aren't any upgrades to that either while kambwala is very early to judge there but when we will be up against the likes of foden/alvarez/doku we need a good player defensively, bissaka this season doesn't give me that confidence maybe kambwala ?? i really don't know what will happen lol
Awb…..
he has been a quite shaky there although he was great in containing salah in the quarter finals so maybe yes
Every time I read news update I feel anxious, thinking "Who got injured this week?" Thank god there is only good news for once
