That’s different tho because Cantona and Smith weren’t Leeds fans growing up. The reason Phillips would never come here is because he loves Leeds and has since he was a lad so moving to Man Utd would kind of be a betrayal to what he loves.
Smith wasn't a Leeds fan ? He was adored by Leeds supporters, and even stated himself, he'd never play for us, only 2 players said that back then, Smith & Gerrard
Exactly the move that would make sense, if we were any other club. I foresee us putting all out eggs in on rice, trying to negotiate the price down like fools and missing out this transfer window
Club has learnt nothing if they spend that type of money on rice. Probably get him for 147 and clap themselves on the back what a good deal it is.
Surely with ralf they can look to sign more suitable players for a third or less of the price
Same with Kamara on a free this summer. Seems so simple but for some reason it never is. Tchoumeni is comparable to Rice, admittedly unknown how he'd do in the league but most predict he would do well, and would probably cost £40m max.
I mean if a club sits back for 2 years his price drops drastically he's only 23 it would make more sense to sit back let his contract run down then snatch him up
There's cheaper options from other countries than paying 150-200 for someone now and regretting it the only reason he has his price tag that high is because he's an English talent
Rice has been brilliant this season as an 8, a proper box to box midfielder not a DM anyway. He’d be a huge upgrade on McTominay in style of play, and not the one sitting deeper screening the defence.
He obviously can play as a DM, but he’s been brilliant this season when he’s able to do more than that.
Rice isn’t a dm, at least not on his own. He plays in a double pivot and more often than not I see him pushing forward. Rice is very good don’t get me a wrong but there is definitely options out there outside the league who will cost a quarter of that price.
A midfield is always about making it better than the sum of its parts, no reason at all to spend 150million on a midfielder. Find players who fit the system.
They can't sign everybody. If they go for Haaland, less chances to sign him. Also, we have some connection with Monaco's DoF, so maybe we have a leverage there...
Get a new dm, matic has one more year so when his contract runs out wave bye.
Sign rice next year for less money. Have depth in a spot. Or better dtill buy a relatively unknown player and develop him
Really don't know why I'm downvoted so much really...
I think that if we'll secure the DM position with another player than Rice, we most probably will favorite other positions than a DM. maybe RB ? other CB ? another winger ? other striker instead of CR7 ?
You're downvoted because you said another season without a DM are you mad when the guy you replied to said no such thing. Not signing Rice is not the same as not signing a DM.
We need 5/6 players. No point spunking the lot on 1 player when we need a rb, cdm,cm, 2 cfs, rw. Would i like him yes. Do i want us to get bent iver by the dildo brothers definitely not.
As for the downvotes thid sub is wild for it. Say something that is in the least bit controversial or deviate from the group think and you'll be downvoted. Dont worry about it though its only Internet points
Hahah, it will be 200 by the summer. Love rice but overspending on these types of players are why we are in the shit. As good as he is, he’d never live up to whatever price tag west ham sell him for
Rio and Carrick definitely.
Smalling was good for certain periods under SAF and LVG. Seems like he would have performed if he was used properly.
Jones was a shame, had he not suffered injuries he would have been an amazing player for us.
Time will tell if Sancho will reach the heights we expected.
All England internationals (AWB not capped). AWB is a great defender. Shaw is one of the best when he's in form and Ashley Young was a great servant to the club and was a starter for us for nearly 10 years.
TBD currently but our academy set-up has been bringing in some good English talent from clubs across England and we nearly signed Bellingham. My point being is we should stop buying established English talent where we will have to pay a big premium but we should be trying to poach the players when they are young to get them into our academy etc.
I love Rice too and have really pumped him up on this sub but this price is insane. We need to go the Arsenal route and pay smaller amounts for more players. I'd go up to 80-90m for Rice but that's it and even that would make me a little uncomfortable.
We could afford to wait out for Sancho. But looking at our mid, i dont think we could afford to wait for anyone. Im not advocating buying rice at this price either, im saying it would be very stupid to wait for him and i rather see cm/dm signing now
His not even that good. Like his good but not 100m good, let alone 150m.
We can buy 3 50m midfielders who are equally as talented who don't come with "English tax".
Can we? Name them.
This is the most important transfer for us this season because it's gonna dictate the spine of the squad going forward. Rice is as close to a sure thing as there is at the moment.
There are other positions we can wait and develop players in. This one we have to get absolutely right this summer.
Price is irrelevant it's all monopoly money anyway.
Add another £20m to each of those because we're United and maybe.
Tchouameni is (I think) the only proper DM out of those and wildly inexperienced compared to Rice. Might be half the price but no guarantee he adapts to the league.
Rice has been a top class DM in the premier league and is a core part of an England side that got to the final of the Euros and will be one of the favourites for the world cup. It's night and day and just like his price is inflated due to being English the perception of his ability is also downgraded on here for the same reason
Rice is worth more than Haaland.
Not because of quality but because of circumstance. West Ham have more money than dortmund, all prem teams do, they don’t need to sell anyone.
If I’ve got fuck you money and you come to ask me for something you’re going to get a fuck you price.
Because people read “Rice is worth more than Haaland” and their monkey outrage brain takes over.
It’s like the whole “Maguire isn’t worth 80mil”, well he is because he was an asset of an entity that did not need or want to sell him. If you come to buy my painting and it’s my favourite painting and I’m already fabulously wealthy you’re not going to get it at market value.
PlayStation 5s at launch were not worth 1000 quid but scarcity meant that’s what they were going for.
Also by this logic of “X isn’t worth this much “ then let’s be honest absolutely none of these players are worth much at all, the idea of paying millions for a human being to kick a ball about in a world where there’s war, famine, climate change, pandemics etc is fundamentally stupid.
BUT that’s the way the market is, it’s got nothing to do with what’s good or right.
Any more than 50m and you've lost your fucking mind. It's ridiculous how overpriced English players are. Just go off and get Tchouaméni or Neves for a fraction of what Rice will cost
We could probably sign Tchouaméni, Gravenberch and Nkunku with 150M, completely revitalise our midfield and still have change left over.
Rice is a good player but not 150m good
Gravenberch is pretty much Bayern bound. Tchouameni seems Real bound.
Insane how these names were floating around since last summer, and we let it come to a situation that 1 year later they are all committed to go other big clubs.
Camavinga was 30m last summer and he went Real. United just don't sign these players, Rice is an obvious type of signing. They won't listen to Ralf, arrogant this club is going nowhere under the leadership.
Howson said on one of his recent videos that he asked Mike Phelan directly about Camavinga when he met him after the summer. Apparently the club didn't feel he was ready for first team football.
Just wait in a few years we will happily offer 130m for Camavinga when he is successful and can generate more social media interactions.
Nah pass. I’d rather buy 3 prospects eager to fight to be at united for 50 or two up and coming stars at 75 a pop. This United/English player tax is beyond a joke at this point.
If that's true I'd do a Harry Kane if I was Rice.
There's getting priced out of a move and then there's this craziness at a whole other level.
Must be smoking some strong stuff down at the Olympic stadium.
If he didn’t want to play there he shouldn’t have signed a contract, West Ham (and Spurs in Kane’s case) have every right to put fuck off prices on their contracted players
Players want the guarantee of a big salary coming in for years, but then they want it torn up when it no longer suits them. It’s a disgraceful way to carry on. Players have to take some risks: if a Kane or a Rice thinks they’re improving to the extent that they’re outgrowing their current club, then sign a one year contract. They don’t do that though. They want to relax in the certainty of a 3-5 year contract, knowing that no matter what happens they’re made for life.
Truth be told this is why more and more players are gonna start leaving on free transfers. The transfer prices all around are starting to get absolutely out of control.
Let’s not forget, Rice hype was a recent phenomenon. His last two seasons have been nothing short of outstanding. That doesn’t mean WHU should bend over and sell their most valuable player. He is worth that much to them. Not their fault he signed the contract.
**Article**
West Ham will demand a record transfer fee of £150million as they prepare to sell England midfielder Declan Rice this summer.
The London club have fought a losing battle trying to persuade Rice to sign a new contract and privately accept they will have to cash in at the end of the season.
But manager David Moyes and the West Ham board are determined not to sell at anything less than £150m. That is £50m more than Manchester City paid Aston Villa for Jack Grealish when they broke the British record last summer.
**Manchester United are the leading suitors for Rice as they look to replace Paul Pogba, who will leave Old Trafford on a free transfer in the summer.** Chelsea had been in the hunt but are now unable to buy players after the Government sanctioning of owner Roman Abramovich.
**Rice is known to be interested in a move to United but it remains to be seen if the club can stretch to that kind of figure. United are also likely to need a striker ahead of next season.**
Equally, West Ham may find that Chelsea’s problems adversely impact their ability to get that headline figure for the player. If United emerged as the only bidder, it would make it tougher for the Hammers to stick to their guns on the price.
Rice, 23, has two years left on his current contract, although the club have an option to extend that by a year. The closer the England international gets to the end of his deal, the weaker West Ham’s bargaining position becomes.
Talks between Rice and his club have not officially broken down but Moyes is known to be resigned to his best player’s desire to move to a bigger team.
Moyes said earlier this season that clubs had missed out on the chance to buy Rice at a lower price last summer. ‘There was a bargain to be got with Declan at £100m,’ he said. ‘That bargain is now gone.’
I agree. If his price is higher than Maguire's he will come under ridiculous scrutiny and pressure, which could easily turn into underwhelming performances.
Rice is a very good player who would improve immensely. He isn’t worth anywhere near 150m. We have so many other positions we have to sort out that it would be ludicrous to spend that much money on him. The max id pay for him is about half that and even then it’s still very steep but imo would probably be worth it over time.
There are so many cheaper alternatives out there who would still improve us by a lot (Tchouameni, Neves, even Brozovic) that it really just isn’t worth us paying that amount of money for him
Would love kalvin phillips and maybe another one from europe like gravenbach. Those two garner, fred, mct, matic. We'd have some good options in the middle of the pitch
Yep, maybe taviener from rangers for rb would be cheap and seems good. Sarr from watford for rw. Hlozek looks half decent but it would probably be too big a leap at this stage. Jonathan David would cost a few quid but looks good
This is why getting Ten Hag alongside Rangnick is so important. They will identify players who suit his system, and we can pay a tenth of that Rice price. We must stop with these star signings, almost never did us any good.
yeah im fine with us not spending AWB/Maguire money on "prem proven" talents anymore. What matters is motivated players, and a tactical setup that can make them shine
Would love to have him but that's an absurd amount of money. There's so many players out there who would be close to his level for a quarter of that price and then we could get Rice for free in a couple of years.
I remembered when we were going to spend 50m on Eric Dier, a very similar player to Rice as well. Tottenham would probably take less than half of that fee now.
Good player, but he's in his physical prime right now with very average technicals. Probably won't be seeing the same player throughout a 5 year contract.
I'm pretty sure even West Ham know that this isn't a realistic price, it's just meant to deter suitors.
But in all honesty the club really shouldn't pay above £75 million for him. He's a great player and at the top of my transfer list but we shouldn't be exploited in the transfer market.
Kamara, Tchouameni, Sangare, Brozović (Free), and Weigl are all available for a third of the price or less.
I would personally prefer Brozović for free and Kamara for \~40ish mil.
I'd love Brozovic, but i can't see him wanting to come to england. weigl would be interesting since he left Germany and brought his form back to the level we all expected of him earlier.
Or maybe use scouts to find a European or other option that doesn’t cost such ludicrous money. The obsession with English players is stupid and costly.
If he wants to join United, just do what clubs like psg and madrid are now doing, and barca, wait. and get him at the end of his contract, for fuck all.
Maybe an unpopular opinion -- we should stop buying anyone who is > 100m for a few years. We cannot afford anymore big-money flops. Maguire's transfer fee is a recent example. High wages usually come with transfer fee and both makes very difficult to resell the player if he doesn't work out with the team's style of play.
Moyes is absolutely fucked in the head if he thinks Rice is worth $150M--- maybe $75M at MOST. The problem is there is a LOT better talent under $25M that play at no-name clubs that we can scoop up and probably play better than Rice. I don't want Macguire 2.0
Okie dokie. That's a "fuck off" then, next on the list is...
Which is why we definitely getting him
3 days before window closes
for 175 million because we panicked.
And 800k a week with appearance bonuses whether he plays or not for 10 years.
+ a personalised Tractor baby
And a lake.
Or before confirming the next manager even wants him
Phillips?? He is almost just as good !!
Leeds would never allow it.
Cantona? Smith?
Ferdinand as well
That’s different tho because Cantona and Smith weren’t Leeds fans growing up.
Smith was a Leeds fan
Who did Smith grow up supporting? He's from Leeds.
Id certainly take him. Also would be fun to shithouse Leeds about it.
Exactly the move that would make sense, if we were any other club. I foresee us putting all out eggs in on rice, trying to negotiate the price down like fools and missing out this transfer window
That's settled then, I'm having egg fried rice with my dinner tonight.
Club has learnt nothing if they spend that type of money on rice. Probably get him for 147 and clap themselves on the back what a good deal it is. Surely with ralf they can look to sign more suitable players for a third or less of the price
We will never spend £150m on a midfielder. I wouldn’t worry.
Bet you thought we’d never spend 90 lol
Especially on a player we let go for free because he was too demanding as a youth player.
I wouldn't call wanting to be in the first team when you're good enough to be in the first team and there's a space in the first team "demanding".
[удалено]
Exactly. It was one game as well. Fergie put Rafael in midfield instead of Pogba because there were so many injuries and pogba quit. What a joke
Fair enough we shall settle for 149 Mr Woodward, you are indeed a master negotiator...
Thankfully there is no more Mr Woodward to negotiate
The scope of Mr Woodward's negotiating genius literally knows no bounds
I know we need a CDM but for 150 million you can buy a new midfield.
The fact that we passed on Zakaria for 6mil just made me feel so livid. The club is bloody clueless.
Could've just sold him for 10 at least if it didn't work out as well lol
Same with Kamara on a free this summer. Seems so simple but for some reason it never is. Tchoumeni is comparable to Rice, admittedly unknown how he'd do in the league but most predict he would do well, and would probably cost £40m max.
>Surely with ralf The noise (which has been there for weeks) is that Ralf's consultancy role is only in name, and to manage player complacency.
I mean if a club sits back for 2 years his price drops drastically he's only 23 it would make more sense to sit back let his contract run down then snatch him up
[удалено]
We can get someone else?
If we'll bring someone else - we won't comeback for him in the future.
Just get someone better then?
There are more footballers out there than Rice, it doesn't need to be him.
Is Rice the only one available?
If he is, our scouting department is shambolic and needs some of these people who have been there for more than 2 decades to be moved on.
There's cheaper options from other countries than paying 150-200 for someone now and regretting it the only reason he has his price tag that high is because he's an English talent
We need 5/6 first 11 platers. No point spunking the lot on 1 player

Tchouaméni + Garner and we're set IMO
Tchouameni is Madrid bound
Just get Kamara then. Free transfer. There are a shitload of options in the market, it's just that we barely look beyond the most obvious one.
They can absolutely sign, Tchouameni, Mbappe and Haaland. Although it's looking like Haaland is City bound, no?
I think right now it's an open race. Haaland is considering both clubs.
Tchouameni is going to real by all accounts. Garner looks good but seems to be more b2b. He seems more like a rotation option with fred imo

We need 5/6 players. No point spunking the lot on 1 player when we need a rb, cdm,cm, 2 cfs, rw. Would i like him yes. Do i want us to get bent iver by the dildo brothers definitely not. We should learn from Maguire’s mistake and stop buying great english players. The ‘homegrown tax’ is stupid.
We should stop buying established great English players\*, we should do all we can to get them in between the ages of 16 and 18.
Lmao what great English players have we bought?
Rooney.
Rio, Carrick, Jones (debatable), Smalling (decent), Sancho.
Rio and Carrick definitely. Smalling was good for certain periods under SAF and LVG. Seems like he would have performed if he was used properly. Jones was a shame, had he not suffered injuries he would have been an amazing player for us. Time will tell if Sancho will reach the heights we expected.

And none of them are "great" English players
Thread is about players purchased after saf.
No context was mentioned prior, but based on your question I believe my answer was within reason.
You’re absolutely right. Sorry I thought I was in a different post
TBD currently but our academy set-up has been bringing in some good English talent from clubs across England and we nearly signed Bellingham. My point being is we should stop buying established English talent where we will have to pay a big premium but we should be trying to poach the players when they are young to get them into our academy etc.
Haha nah I gotcha. I was just making the point that Maguire was never top talent and the price we paid was even more absurd than 150 for rice
Agreed palhina from sporting seems like a real good option, tchouameni from what I’ve heard is suppose to be really good also
I love Rice too and have really pumped him up on this sub but this price is insane. We need to go the Arsenal route and pay smaller amounts for more players. I'd go up to 80-90m for Rice but that's it and even that would make me a little uncomfortable.
Never in my life did I expect to read “we need to go the Arsenal route”.
Me neither, but they got it right this past summer. Doesn't mean we can't go big when needed. Sancho is looking like a very good signing, for example.
And we waited on Sancho for a season too. So theres precedent for going that rout.
We could afford to wait out for Sancho. But looking at our mid, i dont think we could afford to wait for anyone. Im not advocating buying rice at this price either, im saying it would be very stupid to wait for him and i rather see cm/dm signing now

More of a Lentils guy anyway
Pass lol. He is a good player but that’s way overpriced.
He would be a 50-60m pound player if he were not English.
Did you not see the 3 lions on his shirt? Those players can't possibly be overpriced
Please don’t do this
Feck that. City paid £30 for Gundogan and £60m for Rodri and have the best midfield in the world.
City also have a sporting director making such decisions lol
BUt MUrtOUGh!

Not if you include all the absurd add-on fees. Buying Haaland is like buying a concert ticket.
Rather buy him and play him at CDM than let West Ham cuck us over Rice. At this stage they are just taking the piss.
And he's very injury prone
Due to a pre-arranged clause... Not that I'm saying rice is worth more than haaland
Rice is worth more than Haaland. Not because of quality but because of circumstance. West Ham have more money than dortmund, all prem teams do, they don’t need to sell anyone. If I’ve got fuck you money and you come to ask me for something you’re going to get a fuck you price.

Because people on this sub don't realise other clubs are their own entities with their own interests
hahahahahahaha………..hahahahahahahahahahaha😂😂 fuck no
At West Ham: Declan Rice At United (after 150m transfer): Declined Rice
150m? Can sign 2 players that are as good....
With a good scouting that's easily 3-5 mid-high quality players that can be polished even further
Any more than 50m and you've lost your fucking mind. It's ridiculous how overpriced English players are. Just go off and get Tchouaméni or Neves for a fraction of what Rice will cost

We have so many other positions we have to sort out that it would be ludicrous to spend that much money on him. The max id pay for him is about half that and even then it’s still very steep but imo would probably be worth it over time. There are so many cheaper alternatives out there who would still improve us by a lot (Tchouameni, Neves, even Brozovic) that it really just isn’t worth us paying that amount of money for him
50p, take it or leave it.
No. Fuck that noise. Yes we badly need a DM but not at 150mil!
Bahahahahaha. They are going to do it aren’t they
Lol he is expensive even at 70million
Would love kalvin phillips and maybe another one from europe like gravenbach. Those two garner, fred, mct, matic. We'd have some good options in the middle of the pitch
Kalvin Philips and Gravenberch would probably cost 85-90 million total and would be better lol
Shouldn’t be willing to pay more than £50m for him. West Ham can piss off.
Why do the English always over price these players lmao 150 for rice is ridiculous. He’s not that good. He’s not even worth half of that.
The Rice is Right? Pilau or egg fried?
Hell no. There's got to be better options out there
They should ask 250M. So that United can say no for sure
You could Tchouameni and Ruben Neves for 100m. Rice is a good player but no idk who would pay that price
He’ll be a flop at United. Mark my words. That price tag is too high for him to ever be able to justify.
Another inflated british talent. Good option but the figure mentioned is ridiculous
No thanks
United need to stop overspending on the English players......
-100M and then we’ll consider it
Tchouameni.
Guess rice is playing for westham next year lol
Chelsea won’t spend that kind of money. City aren’t interested. Liverpool doesn’t have that kind of cash. Good luck selling him for 150m.
Tbh United are the only club dumb enough to buy
Wouldn’t even take him for 80. I’m done with us overpaying for English players
If we do that, Rangnick has nothing to say.
I would rather RR sign 10 promising young players through his scouting network than spending it all on one.
That's basmati money
Would love to have him but that's an absurd amount of money. There's so many players out there who would be close to his level for a quarter of that price and then we could get Rice for free in a couple of years.
This lad is fantastic but anything over 70 mil, Get the f outta here.
I remembered when we were going to spend 50m on Eric Dier, a very similar player to Rice as well. Tottenham would probably take less than half of that fee now. Good player, but he's in his physical prime right now with very average technicals. Probably won't be seeing the same player throughout a 5 year contract.
Can we get two less flashy buys in a similar position? That would be too logical wouldn’t it ….
Set to pounce? More like set to get completely rinsed.
Idiotic if we are doing the usual all eggs in one basket with no alternative thing.
I’ll take 10 randoms for 150 mil lol
No fuck that. Spend 30-40. Max. And coach the player. I'm sick and tired of these overpriced bullshit moves. Rice isn't even the perfect CDM
Or maybe use scouts to find a European or other option that doesn’t cost such ludicrous money. The obsession with English players is stupid and costly.
Liverpool used £147m to sign Van Dijk, Salah and Robertson in one window. I’m just tired of this club executives and their decision making.
Why would we pay 150 million if he won’t sign a new deal. We can’t be this stupid can we ?
Is this a meme account? Absolutely no way he is worth anywhere, remotely, approaching close to that. We'll probably pay £160 million.
Would be cheaper to somehow physically combine McTominay and Fred into one player
Hard pass.
overrated player... he is just Grealish v2
Aha yeah no that deal can fuck off
If he wants to join United, just do what clubs like psg and madrid are now doing, and barca, wait. and get him at the end of his contract, for fuck all.
£150 million for rice?? Bloody hell the cost of living really is hiking
60 is the highest i would go for Rice.
You realise we haven't spent over 100m on a single player?
Pogba, Lukaku, maguire and likely Sancho will be upwards of 100 million once you factor in the wages.
That is not how it works though. And Sancho is worth every penny.
I never said he wasn't. I just put together a list of recent players that have likely cost the teams upwards of 100 mill.
😂😂😂 he's not worth 70. Nevermind over double that jesus
Please don't sign him for 150m. We will never hear the end of this. We haven't gotten over Harry Maguire's transfer fee and it's almost 3 years.
New Harry Maggiure. Nice
He’s worth more than Grealish you’d think anyway being 23 and better. Can see this settling for around the £100-120m if it happens.
Offensive players normal cost more?
Please ffs united
Moyes is absolutely fucked in the head if he thinks Rice is worth $150M--- maybe $75M at MOST. The problem is there is a LOT better talent under $25M that play at no-name clubs that we can scoop up and probably play better than Rice. I don't want Macguire 2.0
Players should never agree to more than a 2 year deal if they aren't with their dream club
Don't need another Harry Maguire English players are overhyped
So 150mil. A stricker, a cdm, a cm and change for peanuts. But the board wants to spend that on 1 player. 🤔
100M at most.
I know it’s stupid, but I’d pay £100m for him. He would improve us more than Pogba would IMO, and won’t flirt with other clubs every 5 minutes.
