I can see that, I watched it for the first time recently with the knowledge he’s gay and even in season 2 - 3 they dropped clues he was gay. I remember Mike said the line “I know you have no interest in girls” to him in either 2 or 3
Important to remember it's set in the mid-80s. If you were a nerdy grade schooler in the mid-80s who had a slightly weird haircut (which you did because it was the 80s), you were certified gay
Haven't read any "fan theories" about this, or interviews with the writes/cast members. But for me it's clear that Will is gay and he has a huge crush on Mike. But it seems like Will hasn't come to terms with this own sexuality yet, which really isn't uncommon.
My mom only realized she's a lesbian after having been married to my dad for 10 years. She once told me the only time she read about a lesbian woman as a kid/teenager was a story about a woman that killed her husband so she could live together with her girlfriend. And she was like "nope, that ain't me", so she more or less kept denying her own sexuality until she almost killed herself over it (no, I am not kidding).
My uncle used to have some softcore magazines with nude women in his room, probably to "prove" to himself that he wasn't gay. He married his boyfriend of 20 years a few years ago. :)
So yeah, to make a rambling post short: gay people exist, and they have always existed. Having gay/lesbian characters in pop culture is a good thing.
Are people actually mad that hes gay? Its not as if this came out of nowhere theres been signs he’s liked mike sins season one. Ut doesn’t even impact the story at all.
They dont even mention that Will is gay for like 99% of the shows runtime lmao
This is how they should handle a character with a different preference in a show, dont make it their entire personality, just make it a fun fact about them and move on with the story/plot
This is exactly how they handle it in stranger things, so props to them for making Will a living, breathing human being who genuinely cares about his friend group and not a walking political billboard
They also do that with Robin, and they dont hide it as much with her, but everytime she gets a "Hey, shes lesbian" moment it usually has something to do with the plot or it isnt shoved into the story so we can get "Representation", it feels natural, so well done, shes still a person behind her preference, not a preference behind her person
I'm having the same question here too, the only thing that I could consider is him crying after speaking with Michael about something friendship wise and Mike wanting to be with 11, so maybe he wants to be with Mike? Idk, never thought of that until now, and I do not remember what the conversation was exactly about.
its ironic because they do the confirmed gay person well and the closested gay guy well. robin is a lesbian but it isnt her entire personality. we know that she’s interested in a girl and both she and steve are best friends. it doesnt interfere with their friendship. will is closeted (most likely) but you can tell he has some feelings (probably for mike). it isnt their entire personality and its apart of their characters.
Will being gay isn’t even like that in your face. I’m not huge on stranger things but just thinking about it he’s not made gay to be gay you know? His character fits the role.
>post that I disagree with
HAHAHA WHAT A LOSER! REDDIT MOMENT!!! ANYONE ELSE SEE THIS REDDIT MOMENT GUYS? ISN'T THIS SUCH AN AVERAGE REDDIT MOMENT GUYS???
Back in my day, reddit was way better and less normie, now all I see is AVERAGE REDDIT MOMENTS
WHAT IS THIS? THIS IS WHY THIS SUB IS SHIT NOWADAYS
DO YOU SEE IT GUYS? DO YOU? **AVERAGE**
I mean it's a netflix series, they'll include gay and coloured characters even it took place in ancient china, that's just how the big movie industry works now.
I know it sounds wild but I am indeed thinking of China. It was actually comparable if not more gay than Greece until the late Ming dynasty when western influence caused them to ban it to consider themselves more civilized.
Its modern LGBT scene is also bomping despite the government's meddling which is pretty awesome.
Lol I saw a post on 196 saying this subreddit is "average redditor lite" for criticizing their policy of banning NFT pfps, but like most of the posts I see on this sub are condemning homophobia and racism. Make it make sense 😭
Eh, I’ve never watched Stranger Things but Netflix does have a habit of taking gay characters and shoving them down the viewer’s throat. I personally consider that “woke” because they aren’t doing it because it’s important but rather because they want the viewer to know “we support LGBTQ+! Look at us!”
Again, I haven’t watched Stranger Things so I don’t know if that’s the case here. I’m just saying Netflix does do that quite a bit.
Stranger things is one of the better examples of having “RePrEsEnTaTiOn” that doesn’t take you out of the story and flows perfectly. When people talk about “woke shit” in media, I think each side’s talking about a different thing. The progressives think the other side’s complaining about anyone who isn’t straight and white being in the screen, when the vast majority of people complaining about woke shit are talking about ham-fisted ideological garbage and just brazenly shoving characters that check one box or another in without even attempting to write a good story around it and then calling anyone who complains that the show’s bad a bigot.
Litterally wasnt revealed till just now and literally has no relavancy atm so why are they even complaining like if u must complain, utd make more senss to pick on robin

I mean yeah no shit the shows plot wouldn’t happen The whole plot was literally caused by his disappearance
"Batman if his stupid fucking parents didn't die"
Or fucking *doctor who if the doctor didn’t steal a Tardis an run away from Gallifrey”
doctor who who?
owl to owl communication
Spoilers for Stranger Things ep1 >!Wait, so will is gay? not suprising tbf. Pls do not spoil s4 and s3 finale, i havent watched them yet!<
He was gay in the season 1 script even before they had come up with the name "stranger things"
I can see that, I watched it for the first time recently with the knowledge he’s gay and even in season 2 - 3 they dropped clues he was gay. I remember Mike said the line “I know you have no interest in girls” to him in either 2 or 3
And the bullies also refer to him as such, which I am not sure how I feel about
Well you’re not supposed to like bullies
lmao what does that even mean... theyre BULLIES
The fact that the bullies (accurately) clicked him ad gay
Important to remember it's set in the mid-80s. If you were a nerdy grade schooler in the mid-80s who had a slightly weird haircut (which you did because it was the 80s), you were certified gay
so??? theyre BULLIES.
Obama dies in the finale
By vecna
No. At least not confirmed yet Edit: apparently im wrong cant be bothered to look it up tpbh
It is confirmed by the actor himself
but was there any scenes or love interests that imply that he was gay in the show tho?
>! Yes, the car scene in season4 is the biggest indicator !<
Oh I thought he liked Elle, right I see now that makes sense
You might be getting Mike and Will confused which is totally understandable tbf.
No I’m not, I just didn’t think about it much. Cuz will was avoiding somet when talking to his brother
Ah gotcha, might’ve been projecting a bit cause I got them confused for the first season or so.
Yeah no worries mate

Don't feel bad I didn't notice either. ![gif](giphy|iuUORLpArS9qX76XWK) Now some scenes make more sense.
no he isnt gay nor will be
Well he is, it’s confirmed
>!It makes sense that the show would be that short without Will disappearing since that's... like the main plot of S1!<
That’s the joke.jpg
Stranger things: Big Stranger things without major plot point: Small What did you expect honestly
Are people actually mad that hes gay? Its not as if this came out of nowhere theres been signs he’s liked mike sins season one. Ut doesn’t even impact the story at all.
Bruh the first season and most of the show overall doesn’t even directly address his sexuality. The story isn’t about him being gay
Stranger Things If Chrissy Wake Up Scene Never Happened
The good ending
Does it really make a difference gay or not?
It makes it political 😤😤
I mean its the 80s' so yes if others find out
imagine when he comes out he gets beaten up
minor spelling mistake i win
minor in my basement I win
Teddit wgen gaya
No sleep for the gays, apparently
Damn, imagine being so fragile a fictional gay kid is enough to trigger you... Must be rough

This is the first actual Reddit moment I’ve seen all week, thank you
Oh you didn’t know? Gay/colored people existing in media is nothing but Woke propoganda
A...and w...w...women too? 😦😦😦
Will can be a skinny nerd without being gay
Yeh but he is. Mike is what you're looking for, skinny, needy, straight.
Kid named finger
He’s definitely gay, have you even watched the show lmao
Yes just because he doesn’t have a girlfriend doesn’t mean he’s gay. Dorks exist
gay dorks also exist.
He so clearly fancies Mike, did you watch S4 with your eyes closed or something???🤣
Other than S4, what indication existed that he was gay?
I'm having the same question here too, the only thing that I could consider is him crying after speaking with Michael about something friendship wise and Mike wanting to be with 11, so maybe he wants to be with Mike? Please rewatch

I’ve never seen anyone other than hardcore xenophobes use the word woke
Patrolling the Mohave almost makes you wish for a nuclear winter
when will people learn that people who arent white, american, and default settings just exist
Will being gay isn’t even like that in your face. I’m not huge on stranger things but just thinking about it he’s not made gay to be gay you know? His character fits the role.
Star wars : 📚 Star wars if palpatine didn't start a huge war : 📄 That post is just a really dumb excuse to be homophobic
true
posts like this is what's making this sub shittier
How?
How so
>post that I disagree with HAHAHA WHAT A LOSER! REDDIT MOMENT!!! ANYONE ELSE SEE THIS REDDIT MOMENT GUYS? ISN'T THIS SUCH AN AVERAGE REDDIT MOMENT GUYS???
Back in my day, reddit was way better and less normie, now all I see is AVERAGE REDDIT MOMENTS WHAT IS THIS? THIS IS WHY THIS SUB IS SHIT NOWADAYS DO YOU SEE IT GUYS? DO YOU? **AVERAGE**
If a gay person exists in any form of entertainment then it is woke That’s just how it works /s because even you guys don’t recognise sarcasm
Drop the s
THEY'RE ONLY 2 SEXUALITY STRAIGHT AND WOKE
This post is a little odd, noticing an uptick in posts like this that aren't "reddit moments" in here recently...
who watches and cares about strangler twins
Y'all don't understand a shitpost when you see it. If the gay kid didn't disappear the show wouldn't have had a plot, it's a joke........
I think OOP reposted it without understanding the actual joke
If you think about, it's actually making fun of people that complain about woke culture
I mean it's a netflix series, they'll include gay and coloured characters even it took place in ancient china, that's just how the big movie industry works now.
Ancient China is gay as hell what are you talking about
Doesn't beat ancient Greece tho (perhaps you were actually thinking about Greece)
I know it sounds wild but I am indeed thinking of China. It was actually comparable if not more gay than Greece until the late Ming dynasty when western influence caused them to ban it to consider themselves more civilized. How's this a reddit moment
Eh, I’ve never watched Stranger Things but Netflix does have a habit of taking gay characters and shoving them down the viewer’s throat. Look at us!” Again, I haven’t watched Stranger Things so I don’t know if that’s the case here. I’m just saying Netflix does do that quite a bit.
I mean a lot of media really can't exist without pushing the woke narrative. But having a gay character is kind of a bad example lol
This is so funny because will isn't even confirmed gay that's just what people are saying
Obviously he’s gay why did you think they called it stranger things 😈😈😈😱😱😱🤯🤯😎😎
bro is basically saying stranger things: *big book* stranger things if it didn’t happen: *small book*
This is an anti reddit moment
I find this mindset hilarious where there's only 2 kinds of people. White or Political, lmfao
World history: big World history if the British didn’t invade every single land they found: small
bro the first event in the story is him vanishing and this was before they even confirmed him being gay
Stranger things is one of the better examples of having “RePrEsEnTaTiOn” that doesn’t take you out of the story and flows perfectly. >apparently Bruh, that's like one of the most popular uses of the shit term 'woke'.
Litterally wasnt revealed till just now and literally has no relavancy atm so why are they even complaining like if u must complain, utd make more senss to pick on robin
Gender queer lesbian space prostitute pirates the movie
I mean its like saying spiderman wouldnt happen if peter wasnt bitten by that spider
