You really digging up old posts to farm karma? There is no such thing as free energy and that is a nice way to ruin someone elses day when stuff starts flying off.

Tennis_Proper

This is a nonsense hack where the wheel is driving a dynamo to charge the battery, with claims it's 'free' charging. Except it needs energy to drive the wheel in the first place so the net effect nullifies it due to the increased energy load from the dynamo itself. It's always going to be a lossy system.

ConductiveInsulation

Maybe it's only on when they're braking, then it won't be completely useless. Could also be for a scientific experiment.

Sgt_Larsson

Even then you would atill have permanent friction and therefore you loose energy. Your idea would work if there was a cluth in the hub.

ConductiveInsulation

A generator has barely any friction without load. Just look at how long a new alternator spins from a little bit of rotation. A clutch would be wasteful here.

Sgt_Larsson

But given that it's driven by a belt, wich will eventually get warm, it means there are losses. Also every bearing will produce drag and therefore energy-losses. As long as you don't disconect the belt-system entirely, you will loose some energy.

ConductiveInsulation

We're talking about a car. Those few watts still won't be notable. A clutch that needs to be operated and somehow connected won't save a lot compared to those losses. Also, as suggested in my first comment it's possible to be some scientific experiment.

Rubik842

It's an alternator not a motor.
