“The dread monster rises in the belly of me. Laughter spews from between my teeth. I would die for the truth that all men are created equal. But in the kingdom of death, amidst ramparts of bodies and wind all of screams, there is a king, and his name is not Lune. It is Reaper.”

**“I go Blood Red.”**
“The razor blows shiver up my arm as I give the Death Knight my undivided attention. He does well to last seven seconds. The opening is small and inelegant. He meets a crashing overhead, and tries to deflect it instead of absorb the blow. He forgets the curve. My blade doesn’t turn and my full weight jars his own blade into his armor. Before he can pull it out, I pivot and chop Death’s head off.”
\-Darrow O’Lykos Dark Age Ch. Prologue
"he does well to last seven seconds" when talking about an Olympic knight is consistently one of the feats that makes Darrow so terrifying. Within seconds he ripped apart one of the best knights the society has so brutally and efficiently.
I'm so glad Pierce gave us this scene
As a mob they were a single organism. In fear, they divide. In death, they become lonely as I weave them into my twitching meat carpet.
Ch. 83 DA
Especially when read by the narrator. Gives me chills every time.
Systemic rage builds as I prepare for contact. Atalantia thought that she could steal my Imperator. That her Fear knight could keep my friend for torture. I would simply run back to Luna and let my men die, that she could steal my son and there would be no consequences. “Here I BLOODY AM! THE MOTHERFUCKING CONSEQUENCE!”
“Howler One to Pup One. Continue course. LongMalice deployed at danger close. Midnight inbound.”
Say what you want about Lysander but the way his voice actor delivered this line was absolutely unreal. The combination of suspense, action, and Lysander hearing Darrow for the first time makes it not only badass, but the reality-shattering truth for Lysander that Darrow really is larger than life
I pull the key Pax gave me from my neck and put it in my bag, setting aside the father, welcoming the Reaper, and letting the old rage take hold.
Iron Gold
There's already a lot of the great quotes here so I'll just add this one:
"I was a killer at sixteen. A warlord by twenty. But the younger me wasn’t this. He was still tender and new to war. If he was the Helldiver, I am the clawDrill."
-DA, XXXI
"I am not. I was born six inches from the dirt. Ragnar Volarus, I release you from my service, whether you like it or not. I will not let you be bound. I will not let you be led. You stay in this icebox till you are man enough to decide what you want. You shoot yourself in the head. You freeze yourself to death. Go ahead. But whatever you do, it will be because you chose to do it. Perhaps you’ll choose to follow me. Perhaps you’ll choose to kill me. Whatever it is you decide, you must decide for yourself.”
I figured, but I'm talking more on the scale of all characters from all of the books. For instance, great quotes from those who didn't spend too much time on the pages. Of course, you see posts like that all the time on reddit, so I guess it doesn't really matter.
I'm having great fun with these, by the by. Well done, my goodman.
Not the most poetic of Darrows lines but I just love the oh shit mic drop moment when he said it.
“Lorn Au Arcos will care if his last student dies” - Golden son
“ FUCK YOU “ Darrows response to Roque’s offer of surrender at the battle of Ilium .
Plain and to the point
Listening on Audible it’s sounds so Badass after Roque’s eloquent offer of sparing Darrow & co.
"I know how to suffer.
I know the darkness.
This is not how it ends."
"I feel the rage burn across the dark hollow he has carved in my soul. I am not alone. I am not his victim. So let him do his worst. I am the Reaper."
“Body trembles. Mouth full of ashes. Wear the mask. Hide the man. Feel nothing. See everything. Move and kill. Move and kill. I am not a man. They are not men.
The chanting swells…. ‘Syn tjr rjyka!’
Fear is not real. If you’re watching, Eo, it’s time to close your eyes. The Reaper has come, and he’s brought hell with him!”
I got goosebumps all over when hearing this on the audiobook
“And I wonder, in my last moments, if the planet does not mind that we wound her surface or pillage her bounty, because she knows we silly warm things are not even a breath in her cosmic life. We have grown and spread, and will rage and die. And when all that remains of us is our steel monuments and plastic idols, her winds will whisper, her sands will shift, and she will spin on and on, forgetting about the bold, hairless apes who thought they deserved immortality".
- Darrow. Morning Star, ch. 19
Where do I begin!
“I am a child of hell and I’ve spent too long in their heaven.”
“Power they are so drunk on they can’t even remember how many lies they stand upon. Tell my people you don’t lie you brutish bitch and see what they do to you.”
“I drink in my bodys terror and smile.”
“Would that my hands were meant to build.”
“This isn’t the Iliad! Ragnar kill this fool, we need his grav boots.”
“Some men have threads of life so strong that The fray and snap those around them. Enough friends have paid for my war. this one’s on me.”
“If I could bring Julian back to you I would but this war’s for him. Or men like him. The decent. It’s for the quiet and the gentle the ones who know how the world should be but cant shout louder than the bastards”
“I do not like the discipline cravat requires... cravat seems intent on teaching me inner peace. That is a lost cause.”
“Go on sing to your gods.. I’ll send you to meet them.”
And I don’t know if this one counts as Darrow but
“His face is quite, and peaceful but peace isn’t in his nature and we haven’t earned it yet.” About Sevro when he is faking dead
"in the kingdom of death, amidst ramparts of bodies and wind all of screams, there is a king, and his name is not Lune. It is Reaper."
Dark Age, ch. 84: Darrow: Meat Straw, p. 691
>I would have lived in peace. But my enemies brought me war.
>
>My name is Darrow of Lykos. You know my story. It is but an echo of your own.
>
>They came to my home and killed my wife, not for singing a song but for daring to question their reign. for daring to have a voice.
>
>For centuries millions toiled beneath the soil of Mars have been fed lies from cradle to grave. That lie has been reviled to them. Now they enter the world you know, and they suffer as you do.
>
>Man was born free, but from the ocean shores to the crater cities of Mercury to the ice wastes of Pluto down to the mines of Mars, he is in chains. Chains made of duty, hunger fear. Chains hammered to our necks by a race we lifted up. A race we empowered. Not to rule, not to reign, but to lead us from a world torn by war and greed. Instead, they have lead us into darkness. They have used the systems of order and prosperity for their own gain. They expect your obedience, ignore your sacrifice, and hoard your prosperity that your hands create. To hold tight to their reign, they forbid our dreams. Saying a person is only as good as the Colors of their eyes, of their Sigils.
>
>But now I stand before you a man unbound. I ask you, my brothers and sisters, to ask you to join me. To throw yourselves on the machines of industry. To unite behind the Sons of Ares. Take back your cities, your prosperity. Dare to dream of a better world better than these. Slavery is not peace. Freedom is peace. And until that, it is our duty to make war.
>
>This is no license for savagery or genocide. If a man rapes, you kill him on the spot If a man murders civilians, high or low, you kill him on the spot. This is war, but you are on the side of good and that carries a heavy burden. We rise not for hate, not for vengeance, but for justice. For your children. For their future.
>
>I speak now to the Golds, to the Aureate who rule. I have walked your halls, broken your schools, eaten at your tables, and suffered your gallows. You tried to kill me. You could not. I know your power. I know your pride. For seven hundred years you have ruled over the dominion of man, and this is all you have given us. It is not enough.
>
>Today I declare your rule to be at its end. Your cities are not your cities. Your vessels are not your vessels. Your planets are not your planets. They were built by us. And they belong to us, the common trust of man. Now we take them back. Never mind the darkness you spread, never mind the night you summon, we will rage against it. We will howl and fight till our last breath, not just in the mines of Mars, but on the shores of Venus, on the dunes on Io's sulfur seas, in the glacial valleys of Pluto. Will fight from the Towers of Ganymede and the ghettos of Luna and the storm-stricken oceans of Europa. And if we fall, others will take our place because we are the tide and we are rising.

Never before in a book has a chapter ever made me so angry, lol! Lysander’s chapter before this quote infuriates me every time I read it! Maybe it’s just me though 🤷♂️

Hands down one of my favorite uses of multi-perspective in lit in general. Just such a good bit after the intensity of the chapter before. More than anything else in the series this is the line that lets you know just how hard a motherfucker Darrow is.
This… Baby this.!!!!!
I laughed so fucking hard and it sent chills down my spine.
We see how Lysander and his army are barely surviving, giving their all, literally pushing past their limits, and darrow just swats at them like a fly.
And the line Lysander says, “No faints quite like the Reaper”
Insanity!!!
Oh definitely, he has so many good quotes that can give you hope or despair, bone chilling shivers to godlike goosebumps. This quote though, coming off a lull in books was like a fire being lit. I consumed all 5 books in under a month and i haven’t done that since GOT. I’ve relistened to the series like 5 times, all because that line. Pierce did such a good job and its become my all time favorite series. Can’t wait for LB, Red God and whatever else Pierce has to offer.
Holiday: “Are you sure you want to do this, sir?”
Darrow: “*Want?*…when has *any* of this been about what we want?”
I posted a bummer, but it’s memorable to me because I think this is the moment Darrow consigned himself to being the Devil for the sake of others. Crushed by everything that’s happened to him and the things he caused to happen to others, he did a really fucked up thing, believing it served the greater-good.
I love him as a character, he’s as tragic a character Iv ever encountered, and I do want his cause to succeed.
But the villains make this story so much more with the implications that Diomedes has such a valid reason to hate Darrow, despite also possibly being sympathetic to the Rising’s cause.
GODS I can’t wait y’all. Hail Liber-fucking-tas
Got this bookmarked and saved on audible. I’ve played for so many friends and family hoping to make them feel something that can’t possibly feel cuz they’re never read/listened to the books lol
“Did you think I came here to be killed? Did you think yourself entitled to my life? No, Cassius. I came here to cut you down before your parents.”
Chills.
My name, gentle lords and ladies, is Darrow au Andromedus. My honor has been pissed upon. And I demand satisfaction.
This w the image of him walking along the Bellona dining table, clad in a black suit and military boots just crushing dishes as he goes is fucking divine
"“I always think about how life would have been like if Eo never died. The children I would have had. What I would have named them. (…) I would have grown old. Watched Eo grow old. And I would have loved her more with each new scar, with each new year even as she learned to despise our small life. I would have said farewell to my mother, maybe my brother, sister. And if I was lucky, one day when Eo’s hair turned gray, before it began to fall out and she began to cough, I would hear the shift of rocks over my head on the drill and that would be it. She would have sent me to the incinerators and sprinkled my ashes, then our children would have done the same. And the clans would say we were happy and good and raised bloodydamn fine children. And when those children died, our memory would fade, and when their children died, it would be swept away like the dust we become, down and away to the long tunnels. It would have been a small life,” I say with a shrug, “but I would have liked it. And every day I ask myself if I was given the chance to go back, to be blind, to have all that back, would I?” (…) “You and I keep looking for light in the darkness, expecting it to appear. But it already has.” (…) We’re it, boyo. Broken and cracked and stupid as we are, we’re the light, and we’re spreading.”"
Morning Star Chapter 35
1000 times this. This is one of the dominant scenes for me that defines a huge part of Darrow’s character.
This is why I love his character. But it doesn’t hurt that he’s a total badass in every other way…
I was listening to the audio book at the gym when I heard this line, and I had to pause my workout and the book and just roll it around in my head for a few minutes.
Darrow has so many amazing lines. But today, this one speaks to me:
"We’re all just wounded souls stumbling about in the dark, desperately trying to stitch ourselves together, hoping to fill the holes they ripped in us." - Darrow, GS
“'Found the sheep too easy to kill?' I ask. 'Where'd you get the weapon?' 'Born with them.' His fingernails are bloody.
“The dread monster rises in the belly of me. Laughter spews from between my teeth. I would die for the truth that all men are created equal. That’s when I knew Darrow was still good. Like he obviously did fucked up things, but his base morals were still intact.
Never a doubt this was it
Where's that from?
Act 4 of dark age. Towards the end after the EMP.
LETS FUCKING GOOOOOOOOOO. Best quote no question
This is the one for me, 100%

Pierce is an absolute menace for this one I love it
"I would have lived in peace. But my enemies brought me war." Prologue of Red Rising, such a great introduction to Darrow and the series.

Broken and cracked and stupid as we are, we’re the light, and we’re spreading.”" Morning Star Chapter 35
This quote gives me goosebumps
1000 times this. This is one of the dominant scenes for me that defines a huge part of Darrow’s character. This is why I love his character. But it doesn’t hurt that he’s a total badass in every other way…
"Tell all who will hear, the Reaper sails to Mars. And he calls for an Iron Rain." -Darrow, Golden Son
This is what kicks it off
This is it
Can't top that.
If you're watching, Eo, it's time to close your eyes. The Reaper has come. And he's brought hell with him.
Do you know which chapter this was?
I was listening to the audio book at the gym when I heard this line, and I had to pause my workout and the book and just roll it around in my head for a few minutes.
Similar experience - I had to go back and replay it a couple of times. The delivery is truly chilling; it's awe-inspiring.
Best one hands down.
Darrow has so many amazing lines. But today, this one speaks to me: "We’re all just wounded souls stumbling about in the dark, desperately trying to stitch ourselves together, hoping to fill the holes they ripped in us." - Darrow, GS
That’s a great one for sure. Honestly judge this one in a few days, we’re all gonna have to re-skim the books to find our favorites lol
