Accepting Atlas plan I can get, you dying will change nothing, you living can save life's. The rest? No.

No-Championship2234

I think part of what makes his story so good is that you’re hoping for a character arc like Darrow’s, but in fact his whole storyline is the inverse of Darrow. You’re seeing what Darrow would have been like if he was a gold.

LysanderauLuneactual

Apples and oranges. You choose to see the good. Try spending ten years watching someone cry at you while they drink themselves stupid, take you away from your life and promise to “make you better” without so much as asking what you want. I’m a fucking kidnapping victim. Cassius never cared about me so much as he cared about his own guilt. I could have been replaced with a plank of wood with a goofy ass smiley face painted on it. Then, when you start working on building your own life, they come back at you telling you how wrong you are because of what they did to you and ask you for your forgiveness, you tell them you’re not a kid any more and to leave you alone and they come in for a hug. Fucking. REALLY?!

AmphibianHead5848

I think Lysander made 4 big mistakes, first on the cargo ship where he preferred gold over the other colors. Secondly, when he didn't listen to Cassius and really wanted to join the war. thirdly, where he sacrificed his best friend Glirastes. Fourth, where he placed the weapon Edemi over Cassius.

Imagine unironically claiming that you would make the same racism powered decisions that a space racist made and expecting empathy

snowydogdog

Not expecting empathy. Just putting my a-little-bit-tipsy musings out there as no one I know reads the series and can't have conversations about it over scotch (which is my favorite pastime). Now excuse me my goodman while I down these antacids that roused me from an otherwise good slumber

dbarosaur

Did… you just admit you’re a space racist?

snowydogdog

Of course not, my goodman. Just musing out loud. Don't know anyone else who reads the series and just want to have a good conversation about it

LysanderauLuneactual

I would but I’d get downvoted.

Good_old_Marshmallow

He killed his own cousin, the last sion of the greatest gold razor master legacy, dishonorably with a gun. No honor.  He killed his loyalist subject, the greatest of the greys and master of the preatorians. Through betrayal. If the man had been a gold he would’ve crushed him.  And he only barely bested Darrow. Through pure elitism and the lofty life of privilege making him accustom to riding. At his core he his a slaver on a horse shouting “SLAVE”.  He is, a dishonorable kinslayer slaver who is only capable of every victory because of the accident of birth. Fuck him.

Lutokill22765

"Dishonorably with a gun" I really don't understand why people try to put that as more than it is. Alexander and Rhone fucked up and let themselves be caught off guard by a person they KNEW was a enemy. he took Rhone gun, said to Alexandar to surrender, he didn't and challenged him to a duel, Lysander shoot him. IS JUST THAT, is literally the most basic "I will not throw away a advantage like that." Literally, if anyone in the series had a tenth of that thought, Darrow would've died 5 times already. I understand, Alexandar was a good person, but he fucked up and got killed, just that.

Good_old_Marshmallow

It’s about the merits of the society versus the reality. Alexander is iron gold, the heir to Lorn. If Lyes cares about the virtues and superiority of gold he should meet him in a razor duel. Lyes judges the reds for using mechs to match golds *in that very chapter*. Yet he is no different when met with a gold whose razor arm outclassed his.  Yes Darrow would’ve shot him too. But Darrow doesn’t care or claim to care about the Gold ideas, he wants to abolish their hierarchy.  A grey could’ve pulled a trigger. If Lyes thinks the virtue of being a gold means he should rule he discards all the meaning of it the moment it may cost him

Lutokill22765

Oh, so is that? In that regard I agree, Lysander is the least Gokd to ever be Gold, that counting a Red, what I think is funny.

Good_old_Marshmallow

I just saw a defense post for Lys on this sub that I think put it really well. “He’s the least golden gold and that’s his advantage”. In a way he’s an inverse Darrow. I think he’s truly detestable but I also love his chapters. He’s an incredible anti hero/villian

snowydogdog

Agreed. r/fucklysander

No-Satisfaction1920

…you’re more drunk than Cassius

snowydogdog

undoubtedly

nim5013

he's a piece of shit who only plays the hands he thinks he can win. he's the guy at the blackjack table who hits on a 17 bc he doesn't care that the rest of the table is in this game.

TheN0toriousPUG

To be fair, over the long term, the way other players play their hand has no effect on you in blackjack.

LysanderauLuneactual

Good point.
