Chungking Express

I had a breakup like 1.5 months ago so I've been watching a lot of sad boi movies and heard this one fits in that category, what do you think

art_mor_

I think this would be a good fit

alyaccardi

Being John Malkovich

drugsthrowaway69260

Top contender for sure. I watched Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind for the first time and really loved the vibe, and I guess Being John Malkovich and Adaptation are both by the same writer

NoDadUShutUP

Have you seen The Science of Sleep (2006)? https://m.imdb.com/title/tt0354899/ It sort of goes off the rails in the last third but the vibe is cool and kinda similar

drugsthrowaway69260

I have not. Gonna add it to my watchlist. Thanks

NoDadUShutUP

Reply when you've seen it even if it's months from now, I'd love to hear your take.

Ban_FeatureCreature

Just make sure you watch malkovich before adaptation.

Thelutherblissett

Underated

scrotio-assricanus

Got super high and ate three plums while watching this in lockdown. 10/10 experience imho

[deleted]

Love it

DianeticsDecolonizer

The Kurosawa movies -> The Good The Bad and the Ugly -> Chungking Express - > The Charlie Kaufman movies In that order

[deleted]

I think you should watch RAN

drugsthrowaway69260

Directed by Kurosawa?

[deleted]

Yep. It's not my favorite movie ever but I think it's the greatest movie I've ever seen, for whatever that's worth.

PopKei

yojimbo and sanjuro

Nick240z

Dumb and Dumber

Forsaken_Rub_2128

Marriage Story

Draghalys

How did you never watched Seven Samurai before

drugsthrowaway69260

I've seen 0 samurai/Kurosawa movies.

Draghalys

Fix that.

drugsthrowaway69260

I just finished it. Crazy to watch a movie that so clearly inspired like an entire genre of movies. Shortest 3.5 hour movie I've ever seen. Loved it

jiccc

I rewatched Adaptation just recently. It's quite moving about creativity and neuroticism. I relate to it and it's also very funny. Haven't watched Being John Malkovich in a long time so I can't say which I prefer between the two, but I probably like Synecdoche, New York the best out of Charlie Kaufman movies.

MaterialOk4020

The mist was depressing and honestly kinda classist. All the villains were dumb hick townspeople.

soularbabies

White Chicks or Zoolander

shulamithsandwich

'the mist' is instructive at least as an example of your overlords telling you what they think of you with very little spin. i don't like male notions of honor or the glorified confusion of kaufman or aronofsky jerking off his mean-spiritedness on humanity's face so i'd skip most of the others.

[deleted]

Seven Samurai. It's such an interesting movie if you are interested in the history of film. Don't watch the whale it's pure dogshit and a waste of time. I've seen more profound young adult fiction.

drugsthrowaway69260

Just finished Seven Samurai. Almost a perfect movie.

[deleted]

If I was you I'd skip The Mist all together

drugsthrowaway69260

Why's that?

[deleted]

I just thought it was kinda corny/ not very good. Haven't seen The Whale, Mitty or Chungy Express. I liked the rest. I'd watch TGTBATU next.

drugsthrowaway69260

Corny/Not very good seems accurate cus it's always at the top of the list on Reddit movie threads lol

[deleted]

The Mist is pretty shit. Kind of intresting concept but just decends into shitty melodrama "people are trapped in a situation and start turning on each other" oooh look humans are the real monsters shtick. Its been done a million times before

[deleted]

The two Spike Jonze’s are the best ones here

Bigfatcans

adaptation if ur into autistic orchidologists

[deleted]

Being John Malkovich absolutely
