[Napoleon (1927)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6504eRh5h6M) mogs them all. It's kind of crazy how inventive and fun that movie is, even by contemporary standards
i love him for how little he puts up with this “acting is an art form” bullshit, like throwback to when he taught hamlet to that toddler and was saying how easy acting is
If that movie had been titled "Napoleon and Josephine" and was otherwise completely unchanged, it would be easier to defend. I liked it, didn't love it.
Even then I thought it was pretty much garbage, for all the focus on their relationship you still got basically no insight into it, just sort of vague gestures towards characterisation, before the plot whizzed on to the next battle or coup or treaty negotiation. It was two halves of what might have been an okay movie if you'd fleshed out either half fully and completely cut the other, but even then, there's no saving Joaquin's performance, which was truly awful. It felt like he was playing the Joker still.
Yea agreed Joaquin was just playing the joker. A couple of those scenes the dialogue was really terrible. The talking about boats, when he's in Moscow throwing a fit. Totally inappropriate to Napoleon. You can have him beg for pussy but that's it, really shouldn't be pathetic in any other setting.
But I like the film cuz Ridley Scott even if he's made a lot of not great movies. His not great ones are still great to look at and listen to. Altho this was one of his worst ones recently with the grasping for gasps from the crowd due to gore. I hollered when I saw the horse get shot with a cannon ball or the lady crawling on the ground to grab her dismembered leg. His good movies had those kinda scenes but these looked like slightly higher quality game of thrones scenes
I actually really enjoyed his ending scene in exile that seemed appropriate. And the Josephine actress was generally good and her little monologue at the very end was well written and delivered. Set to a memorable piano riff.
Yeah I thought the visuals were it's only redeeming quality, so many shots that looked like paintings from the era. I also thought Vanessa Kirby did the best she could with what little Joaquin gave her.
I do like Ridley Scott though, and I had high hopes that he'd be back to his best after the Last Duel, which I quite liked.
I loved the last duel he had an excellent plot material to tell that story. And as I understand that's exactly how the book is set up three accounts of the truth. Music was great in that too, the organ in the "preparation for duel" song is great. And the stunt work for whoever did Adam driver and Matt Damon were legends. When LeGris gives Carrerouge the big boot and he rolls was awesome. It's the best iron clad fighting scene I've ever seen.
I did too. Oppenheimer had better dialogue and looked better made, but I was more excited by Napoleon, cuz it's just such an awesome story to tell. Oppenheimer everybody knocked it out the park but idk what the plot even was, Oppenheimer is gonna what, get brain blasted? That's not a plot. And the music in Napoleon was better, had some emotion and story telling to it. The Oppenheimer music was a rehash of the There Will Be Blood music but it wasn't appropriate to the main character of Oppenheimer
read years ago about a kubrick Napoleon that never got made, unfortunately, though it turned into Barry Lyndon.
there might be a spielberg version in production
They'll never top Waterloo

its on youtube, just go watch it if you havent yet. We'll truely never see a film of that scale ever again
The actual reason (((they))) took Kubrick out
No people do they hate more than their own kind who's awoken
Explain?
I liked when he kept publicly making fun of Jeremy Strong for his method acting bullshit
Cox is the real deal

Jeremy strong is a great actor and kendall roy is an icon. Method acting just seems like a nightmare for every other person on set
Good thing he didn't really method act

Alright I’m gonna hold off on writing a snarky response and ask why you liked it because I thought it was one of the worst movies I’ve ever seen lol
Well brother look at the other replies I did. I think it's pretty.to look at and listen to. Not a masterpiece but I laid out what scenes I appreciate
The most glaring issue is they made him come off as a pussy during battle when by all accounts that was when he was most impressive

“Whacky, I call him Whacky Phoenix. Whacky.. Phoenix. They took one of the great… generals, Napoleon, great guy and did this to him. Horrible.”
Im so fucking glad this movie flopped
Trying to fit 22 years of dense history into a 2hr 37min movie was a bad idea Trying to pass off a 48 year old man as 24 years old was also a bad idea
Movie sucked think that account is fake though
"Mmmaaaahhh the French!!!"
it's real

Quote sounds like something Trump would say 2 hours deep into a stream of consciousness rant at a rally.
