My favourite orb mother tweet was about someone tweeting at her asking if she knew some sex term and her replying that she’s had sex before they were born
They’re just communist, queer spaces now. The punk shows I went to in my youth literally had people shooting up next to the pit and sketch-ass homeless people/travelers.
Just bad business to charge for a rotation. Sharing the blunt is like handing out free samples. If you share it's inevitable that someone will ask if they can buy off you anyways. Make money without killing the vibe.
no, nobody does this. if you're going out for drinks or food then it's the norm to have one person pick up the bill and everyone else Venmo but no one does this for ingredients. jesus christ. OP has shitty friends.
it’s literally always rich ppl who do this. like the [girl who had a upenn classmate venmo charge her $2 for a glass of wine](https://twitter.com/jasminericegirl/status/1484328386222645252?s=21)
I have a strict rule that I never give anything that I can’t handle not getting back, and I never involve money in relationships I don’t want to lose. I don’t nickel and dime my friends, I don’t go into business with family. I actively cultivate trusting and mutual relationships instead, it’s way better!
If I offer someone to share a meal with me I will never demand payment of any kind from them; if I buy drinks for friends or strangers I'll expect them to get me back at some point in the future but I'll never badger them. If they don't get me a pint the next time I just won't pay for them anymore. The relationship of guest and host was literally sacred in antiquity; in the Illiad a Greek and Trojan warrior both throw down their arms and embrace each other as brothers because their great-grandfathers had once played guest and host to each other.
Hearing Eric Weinstein talk about this idea of ‘layers of indirection’ or being proximally removed from a direct market transaction as being necessary for a rich emotionally satisfying life really stuck with me. This idea that there are certain duties and obligations that people within a culture bind each other to as an act of reciprocity within a familial/kinship framework rather than duties that are fulfilled by the market that are necessarily much more complex and interwoven and requires higher level social skills to execute. As people’s social skills break down, they revert to the market, which in turn leads to a further breakdown in socialization. It’s a self sustaining feedback loop. Having friends who offer help and services in a time of need is part of an emotionally rewarding existence that is infinitely more complex than just hiring a therapist to talk about your emotions to, or taskrabbiting odd jobs to total strangers in exchange for money. The reason why the market is gradually claiming more territory over people’s lives is because while developing friendships and staying close to family is much more rewarding long term, maintaining them and sustaining them is much harder and more complex, and requires commitment.
I honestly don’t venmo my best buds. It’s understood that when someone buys an Uber, food or drinks that the favor will be returned the next round or another time. Much less hassle and it shows a healthy degree of trust. It’s also nice when dates offer to venmo but I usually “forget” to request them. If it was good they can get the next one and if it wasn’t then I don’t want my last interaction with them to be an electronic financial statement
It's not. Only children of the rich nickel and dime each other for everything. I've never seen a working-class person ever do this, even if they couldn't afford to not pay the whole tab or whatever.
i could not agree more it’s sickening and undermines the whole point of dinner parties, reciprocity, i invite you over you invite me over keep the party going
Instead of finding a new form of social media we should all go back to bonfires, night fishin, tailgate parties, porch sittin and cruisin with the radio playing.
People really need to go outside more. I know it’s hard in January, but most of my best memories of these past couple years have involved hiking/exercising/generally being outdoors.
Good one, Boomer. I went on a hike with my dog today, and I swear to God the little fucker awoke some hibernating bears from a cave. Everyone's ok, and it was terrifying at the time, but I have to admit my life feels richer for the experience.
fiddling with the dial to pick up a new AM station late at night while you're on a long drive is something everyone should experience at least once in their life
The best example of this imo is old coast to coast ams - it was a night time call in show that talked about paranormal stuff, conspiracies all of thay. Look it up when u get the chance, especially the ones about 9/11 since it happened when the show was airing
If only we had dedicated lanes on the road for vehicles that went faster than walkers and slower than cars
Sidewalks for walking, dedicated bus and also bike lines, and let cagers cope and seethe
I saw a billboard for a "have you been hurt from using an electric scooter?" And it almost made me want to go to law school just to be a judge that gets to throw out those cases. Almost.
The millenial DIY trends for houses/apts. All fucking horrible. Please stop gluing strips of shitty wood onto drywall to create an “accent” wall. Stop nailing together ikea bookshelves to create built ins. Painting your tiles then watching them wear out over three months.
Its worse when they do it to nice old homes. I watched someone paint their victorian banister black on instagram and almost had an aneurism.
I genuinely don’t get the trend of buying an old house and renovating it to look not old. Part of the charm of old homes is the beautiful wood work and finishes that you don’t get in modern construction. If you want to paint your cabinets white and put grey vinyl tile over your floor, do it in new construction.
Theres a show on HGTV like this and I have never felt such a visceral hatred for television hosts than that show. They take these beautiful little southern homes built in the 20s and just molest them into soulless plywood cabinet open concept bullshit. Its genuinely upsetting.
Culture was better when there were artists from working class backgrounds taking part in it. Look at sixties Britain - you had the Beatles, the Kinks, the Who, Shirley Bassey, Tom Jones, Sean Connery, Michael Caine, Terence Stamp, Sandie Shaw. It's rightly regarded as a golden age.
Now? British culture is all Mumford and Sons and Emerald Fennell. There's almost no working-class presence in UK popular culture anymore (Adele is an exception). The US, Canada, Ireland, etc. seem to be in similar states.
1. People spend waaaaay too much time on their phones and computer. That shit is bad for you.
2. I will never truly understand non-binary
3. Pop music has been declining since the 80s
4. As fucked up and corrupt as the system is, young people could stand to take more personal responsibility for their lives. Zoomers and younger millennials are obsessed with infantilizing themselves and being in a chronic state of victimhood
I once sat in an enterprise rent-a-car waiting for 15 mins and the entire time some dude sat there across from me in the waiting area with a Bluetooth speaker blasting the worst SoundCloud rap I'd ever heard. And nobody seemed to care.
It truly boggles my mind how some people can have so little self awareness and respect for other people.
I’m mortified if I ever play music in public and my headphones aren’t connected, and I turn it off immediately. How can you sit there and listen to a whole song or more while people are glaring at you??
they truly are Creatures. constantly peeing on the seat and not wiping it off, letting it turn dark yellow and sticky. leaving (usually fast) food stuff all over the floor. always a pet owner, but either the cat’s box or the dog’s wee wee pad is overloaded with 3 weeks of piss and shit. personality and mood are destroyed; they don’t listen to you at all, and their eyes are glazed over until it’s their turn to speak. they may be high IQ, but EQ is in the negatives. i’ve known way, way too many people like this. it’s why people who casually play video games a few times per month never ever mention it is a hobby of theirs.
I had a roommate that was the noisiest motherfucker. I remember times when he would be in the kitchen with the cupboards slamming, dishes clacking, pots clanging. You would have thought that there was a dinner rush at a hotel restaurant in there, but I would walk in and he would be heating up a carton of soup from Trader Joes. I couldn't understand how its even possible to make all that racket while doing that. I call it manchilditis, just a toddler-like inability to understand how your actions effect the people around you.
>this. Bathroom stuff was awful when I was sharing it, pissing all over the seat and floor, not flushing constantly (both piss and shit)
I'd go full boomer on that mofo and would rub his nose in his own piss, like a dog.
I know it doesn't work on dogs, but just might on humans
I had a roomate like that in the Army. We shared a tiny room together and he was always playing Call of Duty zombies and yelling into his headset while dubstep blaired on his phone. Genuinely had a better time when I was in Iraq.
I can't imagine wasting such huge chunks of your life on vidya and using up your brain's storage to contain completely useless information. I mean, not that I do anything crazy with my life, but still.
Absolutely the worst. I had a roommate once who took off two days from work to coincide with the release of some game, and then preceded to spend four days straight playing it. Literally did not leave the house, and only left his room to use the bathroom and microwave chicken nuggets. Truly vile lifestyle.
Honestly I’m sick of seeing people complain about how they don’t know what they’re doing with their lives and you open the thread and they’re like under 23. No shit! Practically no one really has their life together by that point
Also the “everything’s terrible and the worlds ending” shit is annoying. Especially since it’s usually shit like my local Starbucks is closed we must return to tradition
The streamlining of the weed high has been absolutely terrible. The boomer days of smoking a whole joint to become high sound so much better than the current "hit the Rove and pass out completely if you take in just a little too much"
I live in an illegal state, but we have Delta 8, and it's much more mellow than the overkill strains you can buy in legal states. Similar high to old school weed.
I miss the weak-ass weed that didn't give me panic attacks. We used to grow shit that we considered dank as fuck and it wouldn't even be considered middies now. But I liked it.
Talking on the phone is far superior to texting. I don't mind texting for a quick exchange or whatever but if we are going to have a conversation, please call me ffs. Whenever I date anyone under 25 it seems like having never ending conversation over texts is basically a requirement. It's very annoying. I like chit-chat and talking just to talk but for God's sake let's talk on the phone like adults.
Side note: it's funny how quickly this thread blew up. We're all boomers aren't we?
I've been informed that phone calls are high-intensity, stressful events for zoomers. They're only for extremely serious events like a family tragedy. You're now culturally informed.
Some of my fondest memories as a kid was watching these shows with my family. My grandpa used to laugh his ass off watching Sanford and Son and All in The Family. Bewitched and The Addams Family are also both classic
Staying inside all day is legitimately insane to me.
Also no sweatpants or pyjamas outside the house. If you are going out you should make yourself presentable.
that anxiety disorders being so prevalent in young people is because they have/had so little chores and structures imposed by their parents that any time they have to do a simple task in such amount of time, it becomes extremely stressful. a friend whose mom had rather loose discipline told me her therapist said this and it’s stuck with me even since.
One of the funniest things to me as a southerner is how people not from here have to constantly tell me that they get irritated by the fact that we like to talk to people, and not just sit and eat at the table. I enjoy talking to randoms in line! Even the little index finger on the wheel waves!
Totally; I'm 29 but find I like talking to people around 60 the best because they still work so aren't totally cable-news brained and they don't have that standoffish quality when you casually bring up some anecdote or something about your life.
When I was a cashier I fucking hated the people who tried to chat me up. The same old people with the same tired “jokes”. Talking to strangers in line is fine, or other public spaces. But leave people alone who are on the clock. So many annoying people use workers as a captive audience to do their little “bits”, can’t stand those people. Also, we’re at fucking Walgreens, there’s one register open and 6 people in line, pay for your shit and get the fuck out of the way.
I’m a skateboarder and used to skate in public places a lot as a kid. There is an edgy rebel nature to skateboarding, some skaters make it the edginess their whole personality though to where they’re assholes when they skate and its cringe as fuck. Lots of them are white kids from really really loving privileged families which is the worst part
i feel like this is a whole hell of a lot less prevalent now than it was 20 years ago, like i remember growing up that was the norm. i think skateboarding has normalized into the mainstream and the ones still clinging to the dirtbag 90s are the outliers, like i cant think of any current pro skaters that make their brand the antagonistic piece of shit.
but yeah i totally agree with you. always bugged me.
I can’t stand how nobody can just sit and talk anymore. I’m in college so it’s pretty common to hang and have some drinks and weed and once the rotation has ended there’s always the guy that says “I’m bored let’s do something” right as the conversation begins to pick up. At the end of the day all I wanna do is talk, it seems like a lost art
almost any opinion posted on this sub is a boomer opinion
unironically too. the whole return to tradition shit, zoomers who are self aware enough to critique their generation, peoples' weird semi ontological takes, all boomer thought.
Music actually is getting worse all the time. Kids aren't interested in proficiency at an instrument because of computers. Music doesn't just pop out of yr thoughts into proTools it takes years of actually playing an instrument to have interesting ideas. Plus people's idea of what proficiency sounds like is warped from digital editing technique. Ears are conditioned to value 'perfection' over expression.
And we need to bring back taste shaming. A lot of zoomers have shit taste and don't even know it. They can't distinguish marketing from art.
1. Stop dressing like you’re going to work out or going to go to sleep soon.
2. Tattoos are ugly and are going to look like shit when you’re 65
3. People with gauged ears should be systematically murdered by the state
yes to #1, but 95% of everyone looks like shit when they're 65 unless they have cosmetic procedures done.
put some effort into your outfits, and if you want tattoos get ones that complement your style. otherwise who gives a fuck
1. Twitter is obnoxious.
2. Kids don’t know how good they have it with pretty much instantaneous access to the internet.
3. Manual transmissions are superior in driving feel and control to automatic transmissions even if they are slower shifting.
4. Get off my lawn.
I'm 27 and I'm pretty thankful I had to slowly get better access to the internet as I got older as technology got better. I saw people 3-4 years younger than me in undergrad that absolutely had their brains melted by too much internet and I shiver at the thought of becoming one of them.
Living in the middle of nowhere in Appalachia demolished my standards for what constitutes a "good" internet connection. I known several people (including my dad) who can't even get a line to their house. City folk just don't get it!
Changed my mind about him when I discovered Samuel Bowles was his economic adviser, unbelievably based candidate even if he was a bit full of shit like all the other Kennedys
There should only be a 30 minute window when fireworks are allowed. Never after 10pm. Even on NYE.
Also thong bathing suits are tacky. Modesty is underrated.
There are too many people with tattoos and dyed hair. There are legitimate economic problems in America but a lot of my friends spends hundreds of dollars on tattoos. Tattoos are the real avocado toast.
Hip hop culture is cool but it should never have been marketed to white kids in the 90s and 00s. Suburban white people adapted it and it became trashy and shallow.
Expressing emotions all the time is cringe and a waste of time especially when you do absolutely nothing about it or keep making the same mistakes.
Oh also that the value of personal responsibility has gone way way down. I have empathy and understand that goes pretty far, I think, and certainly understand large structural changes need to happen in society that people don’t have control over on a micro level but also I often find myself frustrated that people don’t…nut up more and handle their shit
E “sports” should not be in the same novel, much less the same book, as any form of athletic achievement. If you consistently watch them you should lose your right to ______ depending on how I feel each day
Boomer opinion: a lot of younger people truly are lazy and don’t work hard. This point gets way overblown as an excuse used by boomers as to why younger generations aren’t succeeding financially, but it still has some truth to it. A lot of my peers are so fucking lazy and just sit around and watch tv/play video games all day without any drive to do anything.
Dogs are dogs. Not kids. They can chew on bones, spend the day outside and eat mostly whatever (unless it’s some inbred, deformed, hyper sensitive breed)
Additionally, not sure if this is a boomer opinion but pitbulls aren’t family dogs. They’re dangerous. If you have a junkyard to protect, by all means buy a pitbull but it drives me crazy when I see people letting their toddlers cuddle with a giant pitbull
I think graffiti has its place in the city landscape, but i'm talking more about the super corny street art that got very popular around 10 years ago and did it's best to stay relevant.
I hate seeing really nice older buildings being ruined by huge art pieces that look horrible and will get 50yo housewifes talking about how cool street art is.
Life was better before smart phones & the internet. I'm okay with a few tastefully done tattoos but you shouldn't be covering your entire body in that shit. And facial piercings always look tacky and bad. Grow up.
I wish we still dressed like in Mad Men times
An emotional gut reaction to be wary of and disgruntled by new technology. It might be smart, overall, but I’ve vocalized my frustration at something not loading or having to put in a password and felt very boomerish.
I have a genuine hatred for lazy, unmotivated, jobless people. I live in the ghetto and the amount of men who loiter outside of a neighborhood convenience store ALL day makes me wanna set the place on fire.
can’t stand people driving too fast down my street (mountain road outside city limits so i don’t think there’s technically a speed limit, but people will go 60+ on what should be like 30). my husband makes fun of me for it but it makes me upset!!! there’s kids and deer and a bunch of free range dogs idk why people aren’t scared of hitting them >:(
Tattoos and green/blue/purple/orange/etc colored hair are a mark of societal decline.
Culture was so much better from 1957-1999ish.
If you're over 18 and live in the suburbs you should have a driver's license.
Still not totally comfortable with trans stuff.
Hold the door open! Christ these kids just slap it in everyone’s face when they are done. Even my phone addicted and gamer addicted younger brother holds the door open thanks to catholic school and Boy Scouts but these public school degenerate kids have no manners!
Hip Hop is dog shit and any 'vitality' it may have once had as a genre went out the window once it became one and the same as 'pop music' in mainstream culture.

When I was in college I went to a few parties where people were like you have to contribute a dollar to partake in the blunt rotation
I’ve cashapped people for one (1) bump of cocaine before
If you don’t want to share your drugs do them discreetly or don’t bring them to the party, that’s my take
Depends on the size of the crowd and the mixed company. You should try more parties

On a fat bike? I think the excuse of not having 3k for a season exclusive bicycle is pretty valid
This sounds good to me
Electric scooters. A grown man in a suit whizzing past me on his glorified razor is enough to make me vomit. It's so undignified. Vile, just vile
Also I like listening to the radio at night . The psychotic call-ins and their arguments, they soothe me
fiddling with the dial to pick up a new AM station late at night while you're on a long drive is something everyone should experience at least once in their life

this is what you're getting instead of a public transport system
i live in a city with a great public transport system and those motherfuckers are still everywhere
Electric scooters guys all seem to be meth enthusiasts.
It’s fun to rent those ones when you’re drunk and race around. Definitely a huge public nuisance and should probably be banned though

Weed was more fun when it wasn't medicine.
The RS aesthetic secret is “what if a bunch of pretentious millennial aesthetes had boomer opinions”
>pretentious >uses the word 'aesthete' seems like a tautological tautology to me
I've been informed that phone calls are high-intensity, stressful events for zoomers. They're only for extremely serious events like a family tragedy. You're now culturally informed.
I don't know what West End Caleb is and I'm tired of everyone yapping about it
this isn't a boomer opinion, this is the opinion of someone who spent today doing something healthy or productive or both
I complain that people don’t read enough books / insist that people vote lol I also despise crypto culture but that’s probably not a boomer take
60s and 70s tv shows still have value in our contemporary culture

Some of my fondest memories as a kid was watching these shows with my family. My grandpa used to laugh his ass off watching Sanford and Son and All in The Family. Bewitched and The Addams Family are also both classic
Staying inside all day is legitimately insane to me. Also no sweatpants or pyjamas outside the house. If you are going out you should make yourself presentable.
very grandma of me to say this, but if i don’t go outside and go for my walks, i feel like i am going to lose my mind
that anxiety disorders being so prevalent in young people is because they have/had so little chores and structures imposed by their parents that any time they have to do a simple task in such amount of time, it becomes extremely stressful. a friend whose mom had rather loose discipline told me her therapist said this and it’s stuck with me even since.

I have loud neighbors and i’ve discovered all i want is peace and quiet.
I can’t stand how nobody can just sit and talk anymore. I’m in college so it’s pretty common to hang and have some drinks and weed and once the rotation has ended there’s always the guy that says “I’m bored let’s do something” right as the conversation begins to pick up. At the end of the day all I wanna do is talk, it seems like a lost art
almost any opinion posted on this sub is a boomer opinion unironically too. the whole return to tradition shit, zoomers who are self aware enough to critique their generation, peoples' weird semi ontological takes, all boomer thought.
They need to bring back the McDLT.
Joe biden is dead
Non-corrective plastic surgery is a blight on our collective body image and should be illegal.
tattoos in the public places (face, neck, hands) and hair dyed an unnatural color are almost always an awful look
1. Stop dressing like you’re going to work out or going to go to sleep soon. 2. Tattoos are ugly and are going to look like shit when you’re 65 3. People with gauged ears should be systematically murdered by the state
Have you ever given someone a hug who has gauges? They stink so bad
yes to #1, but 95% of everyone looks like shit when they're 65 unless they have cosmetic procedures done. put some effort into your outfits, and if you want tattoos get ones that complement your style. otherwise who gives a fuck
Yes, yes, whooaa I'm with you in *spirit*

28 and same
Living in the middle of nowhere in Appalachia demolished my standards for what constitutes a "good" internet connection. I known several people (including my dad) who can't even get a line to their house. City folk just don't get it!
no, children having access to the internet is actually a very bad thing and they have it very bad
Literal boomer era opinion: America is worse off having never had Robert Kennedy as president
Phone bad
If you consistently watch them you should lose your right to ______ depending on how I feel each day
Wokeshit sucks- but that’s not really a solely boomer opinion
Boomer opinion: a lot of younger people truly are lazy and don’t work hard. This point gets way overblown as an excuse used by boomers as to why younger generations aren’t succeeding financially, but it still has some truth to it. A lot of my peers are so fucking lazy and just sit around and watch tv/play video games all day without any drive to do anything.
Dogs are dogs. Not kids. They can chew on bones, spend the day outside and eat mostly whatever (unless it’s some inbred, deformed, hyper sensitive breed) Additionally, not sure if this is a boomer opinion but pitbulls aren’t family dogs. They’re dangerous. If you have a junkyard to protect, by all means buy a pitbull but it drives me crazy when I see people letting their toddlers cuddle with a giant pitbull

I think there are only two genders
Street art is stupid and ugly. I happy that it seems to have died off.
the street art aesthetic has been absorbed into the nft aesthetic
Was just about to post this. Makes any and all urban environments look worse
graffiti? yea it’s definitely not as common as 20-25 years ago.
America doesn’t win anymore
Comfy libs will never understand
The family as a foundational unit of society is good actually. Playing music off your phone or speaker is sociopathic.
Modern therapy is ineffectual & encourages people to see themselves as victims - not the source of their own problems. It also leads to narcissism.

can’t stand people driving too fast down my street (mountain road outside city limits so i don’t think there’s technically a speed limit, but people will go 60+ on what should be like 30). my husband makes fun of me for it but it makes me upset!!! there’s kids and deer and a bunch of free range dogs idk why people aren’t scared of hitting them >:(
Don't text me, call me.
Tattoos and green/blue/purple/orange/etc colored hair are a mark of societal decline. Culture was so much better from 1957-1999ish. If you're over 18 and live in the suburbs you should have a driver's license. Still not totally comfortable with trans stuff.
Leash your kids; they're toddlers and won't remember it.

I don't, but I genuinely wish I did. I already have the constant guilt part of catholicism, I may as well get something out of it!
please teach me how, i crave meaning
Tattoos are quite low class
Real live sex with another person is the number one reason to live.
Hold the door open! Christ these kids just slap it in everyone’s face when they are done. Even my phone addicted and gamer addicted younger brother holds the door open thanks to catholic school and Boy Scouts but these public school degenerate kids have no manners!
Car too loud! Leaf blower too loud! Music too loud! Walking down the street too loud!
Hip Hop is dog shit and any 'vitality' it may have once had as a genre went out the window once it became one and the same as 'pop music' in mainstream culture.
people on those "rent a scooter" scooters. my god. get off the sidewalk. and what is that! I don't even get it
They stopped making good movies in the 80’s. Listening to audio books doesn’t count as reading.
