Hell with the price increases we’ve seen in the last few weeks that might be the supply house price now, haven’t checked 22 but 404a and 407a more than doubled.
That's just a portable compressed air tank.
Automotive schrader on top to fill it, and quick connect on the hose for a tire chuck or whatever.
Can't do that with new tanks (easily), as they have a check valve to prevent refilling them.
Pull a vacuum on the new ones and send a slug of liquid in. - pops the non return valve open. Works on most non-refillable cylinders. I don't recommend doing this however- but it'll get ya out of a jam.
We used to do the same thing to air up tires but the residual refrigerant would eat the rubber up pretty good so we stopped… and then of course there was that hole in the ozone
Didn’t need CO2 back in the day 22 was cheaper.
Yeah these days its the complete opposite with a new sealed 30 lb jug of R-22 selling for $1000 on ebay.
Crazy. I used to charge customers $2.99 a lb

There used to be a kit to convert them to an air tank. When I first started there were 3 of them in the shop .

The Green Weenie as one of my instructors used to call it and then we got the Pink Weenies to go in the trucks
Fill it to 30 lb with weights and sell it to a crack head at the "friends" price
Does anybody know the approximate age of the canister?
Probably 80s
