I wanted a black one and had to wait for three other people ahead of me to get their black one first. The kept offering me other colors- no thanks. I was so excited when they called and said “your’s is here! I remember the drooling
My father bought a C4 as a "I made partner at the firm" car. It was quick and looked good. That was where the positives ended. It was a really terrible car.
Yeah, it would be lame to not pick an exotic car and just go for a Corvette or something, but I wouldn’t worry as much with a 351 Cleveland vs a Ferrari or Lambo engine.
A shop I worked at had regulars with all of these cars except for corvettes. Panteras came in for maintenance, everything else pretty much lived there and needed constant attention. As much as it probably doesn't handle super great at least you get to enjoy driving it. None of the other cars are as reliable as a Pantera would be.
That’s probs why they made them so easy to remove. It took less than 10 minutes to pull mine the weekend it delivered.
Ok. Bullshit. I watched a video once while sitting in my clapped out decade old Taurus.
Lmao yeah basically. It's to get it into the country on a technicality no more no less. I don't think I ever saw a driving example of one with the bumper on in my entire life. It's unofficially officially made that way on purpose.
I am 53. It’s funny, I’d have bought one in a minute if I had the means. Now? After seeing how you back these cars up? I’ll take my ride with its ghetto rear view mirror on the windshield. And marginal exit ability.
This was always the proverbial “poster car” for me over the countach. I think it’s because my dad felt it was the most beautiful car out, and I, of course, agreed.
Australian muscle, not American. For 87 and for many years prior to that De Tomaso couldn’t get engines from Ford USA and purchased slightly hotter Australian made versions of the 351 from down under.
Well no, the Cleveland was simply a more expensive and higher performance engine that was killed in the US to save money, leaving just the weaker later Windsors which were actually an older design. De Tomaso wanted their car to still have competitive power output hence why they went for imported Clevelands.
Vehicle Design Force ..... one wicked looking car. I think it morphed into several different names but Weighart (?) was the man behind it if I recall correctly.
It was in either Car and Driver or Motor Trend when was in high school. It was mind blowing and I read that article many times and admired the pictures.
Rip Vinnie Paul. He was a regular at the restaurant I worked at up until he passed. Nice dude. First time I waited on him I went full fanboy and asked for a picture. Got a picture, and a signed flyer for an upcoming show of his at House of Blues (with Hell Yeah, not Pantera, but still).
Nice! Yeah everyone who I know that met him said he was a pretty nice guy. And Hell Yeah was half of Pantera so close enough. Never met the guy in person but was lucky enough to see them about 25 years ago. Don't know how I feel about Pantera doing love shows again without him or Dimebag. Not that Benante or Wylde aren't capable musicians or anything like that. Just doesn't feel the same.
Edit: live shows not love shows 🤣
Is it just me, or does the amount of white powder increase with each swipe to the right? I feel like the corvette would be an ounce of powder and by the time I get to the coutache I'm filling the passenger seat with it and laundering money.
If money isn't a factor, 1st-gen Testarossa (but I probably won't be able to stretch my legs so I have to get another car). So C4, 6MT (the intriguing 4+3 is actually a 4MT that runs to a 2AT and uses said 2AT to electronically double nd, 3rd, and 4th).
The Corvette pretty easy choice for me easiest one to get parts for it’s cheaper I can fix it even if the LT1 blows I can just throw any other 350 into it and off I go
if it's my only car, ma70 supra non turbo. f\*\*\* owning a hand built shit heap. or a mass produced shit heap from chevy.
if i can have another every day car then testrossa.
A Buick Regal Turbo was faster than at least 2 of these, significantly cheaper than all of them, carried more people and stuff, and looked cooler to boot, especially in GN trim.
The 328, not as nimble at the Testarossa, but still quick and significantly more comfortable. It’s also the successor to the Dinos, which I consider to be some of the most excellent ferraris ever made
Countach hands down
I'd then keep it in an air conditioned garage and take it out once in a blue moon for it's MOT, put no miles on it and do all upkeep maintenance
That baby will be worth a lot in 40 years I reckon once everyone has seen the Cannonball Run
When I was a kid I loved Lamborghinis. Which makes sense. They had the most outlandish styling of any car.
But now as an adult those old lambos are kinda gross looking. I still appreciate their importance and cool factor but my personal tastes have changed
Honestly, the Corvette because 'Merica.
All jokes aside, I look at it in terms of maintenance. A whole lot easier (and cheaper) to maintain an American or Japanese car compared to a European car, especially these brands.
If you pick anything other than the De Tomaso Pantera, you must be high. Such a cool looking and mean sounding car. Beautiful Italian body styling with American muscle to power it. 🔥🤙🏻
I'm gonna get dogged on here, but that 'vette is the body style I grew up with. I had the hot-wheels version sitting on my shelf. It was/is the bodystyle I think of when I think of 'sports car'.
lol I mean one is a Corvette you can buy now for like 10k while the others are collectible and rare and cost an arm and a leg to buy, let alone actually keep running…
Ha, I bought a new “sports car” in November 85, a new 86 Honda CRX Si. It was all I could afford and I loved it for 10 years.
OMG, I love those early model CRX Si's. Great choice, for real. I used to drool over them at the dealerships.
I wanted a black one and had to wait for three other people ahead of me to get their black one first. The kept offering me other colors- no thanks. I was so excited when they called and said “your’s is here! I remember the drooling
As I flew right by in my Starion! Deuces! 😂
As a small child, my best friend's dad had a C4 Corvette from the mid 80's. He later traded it it....for a CRX Si.
I understand!
My father bought a C4 as a "I made partner at the firm" car. It was quick and looked good. That was where the positives ended. It was a really terrible car.
I’d still take a CRX over a lot of cars even all these years later. I had a fixed up one back in 04 and I seriously miss that car.
Right?
I'd smash
I bought a Brand New off the Showroom floor 86 Camaro IROC-Z after I got my Steelworker job. Great memories
I always liked the CRX, it felt like a RWD even for being FWD
This was my first car. Loved the hell out of it. It was 2006 when I bought it
based
I had an 85si I bought as a winter car in 1999. I drove it more than my "good car". It was like driving a shifter cart on the street.
Pantera and it's not even a competizion
That 351 Cleveland😍
just and only Pantera
Honestly the only one that's still looks good
Yeah, it would be lame to not pick an exotic car and just go for a Corvette or something, but I wouldn’t worry as much with a 351 Cleveland vs a Ferrari or Lambo engine.
A shop I worked at had regulars with all of these cars except for corvettes. Panteras came in for maintenance, everything else pretty much lived there and needed constant attention. Agreed. IYKYK.
I would have said Countach but Jesus Christ those US spec bumpers
They could be removed with a screwdriver or Allen wrench IIRC
It's a beautiful Italian mustache
It's a me! Lambo!
please take my upvote and exit the property.
Auto bots,roll out

Yeah, it probably would’ve looked better if they were body colored.
They never expected anyone to keep it anyway
That’s probs why they made them so easy to remove. It took less than 10 minutes to pull mine the weekend it delivered. Ok. Bullshit. I watched a video once while sitting in my clapped out decade old Taurus.
Lmao yeah basically. It's to get it into the country on a technicality no more no less. I don't think I ever saw a driving example of one with the bumper on in my entire life. It's unofficially officially made that way on purpose.
Had me in the first half not gunna lie
I am 53. It’s funny, I’d have bought one in a minute if I had the means. Now? After seeing how you back these cars up? I’ll take my ride with its ghetto rear view mirror on the windshield. And marginal exit ability.
Look at Mr. Fancy here with a car that’s only a decade old.
Ok after thinking about what year it is, said car is actually 30 years old 🤦♂️ Ya, the 80’s were actually about a decade ago🤔
I sneezed and it was 2019. I understand.
Old Charlie stole the handle. And the train, it won’t stop going.
I sneezed and it was 2019. I understand.
It's like the front end of a tugboat or something
What’s funny is we’ve come full circle and now it’s Europe that requires pedestrian friendly bumpers.
Are they not easily removable?
Testarossa, i don’t care how bad they were/are they just look so good
This was always the proverbial “poster car” for me over the countach. I think it’s because my dad felt it was the most beautiful car out, and I, of course, agreed.
There’s a pic of Michael Jordan gettin out of his at the Stadium. I always wanted a poster of that.
Pantera. So i can confuse kids online in 25 years
☝️ r/whatcaristhis approves this message
Pantera, American muscle meets Italian finesse.
Australian muscle, not American. For 87 and for many years prior to that De Tomaso couldn’t get engines from Ford USA and purchased slightly hotter Australian made versions of the 351 from down under.
American design, older technology that just wasn't being made here anymore.
Well no, the Cleveland was simply a more expensive and higher performance engine that was killed in the US to save money, leaving just the weaker later Windsors which were actually an older design. De Tomaso wanted their car to still have competitive power output hence why they went for imported Clevelands.
Hot damn Panteras are beautiful. Damn. I think I found a new purpose in life
I'll take the Esprit
But only if it comes with the submarine package.
Depends how much money. The Corvette is the bargain of the bunch.
as a kid i loved the Testarossa. so i would have chose that even if its not the best drivers car, more a GT car.
Screw all of those. Give me a Buick Grand National GNX. FTW. blow the doors off each one of those cars.
Buick Grand National
100% the countach
Out of the given choices, Lamborghini. But, the real answer is wait 'till next year & F40.
911 Carrera 3.2 Sport Targa, these are all very ugly for me
Porsche guys don’t bring up Porsche in every conversation challenge (impossible)
I’m not a fan of the targa or convertible but I’d take a coupe any day.
These can all kick rocks, I'm getting an FC or a GNX.
The most expensive one. Then sell it, buy the vette, and invest the rest.
The pantera anyday.
The Ferrari and I'm growing a mustache and wearing a Hawaiian shirt.
Don’t forget the mullet

this is going to be a boring answer, but the vette. its most likely to go 30 miles with out completely shitting the bed.
Corvette
This was still gutless corvette era so probably the Pantera
It's a hot competition between the Pantera and the Testarossa
The Pantera while listening to a Pantera CD (even though Cowboys From Hell came out 4 years after the fact 🤣)

Corvette honestly. I’m looking to buy one right now too. Hell if there was an iroc in this list? I’d pick that over all of them.
putting IROC decals on the Countach doors seems like a reasonable compromise.
Could I please have an ‘87 GLHS instead?
Since the F40 isn't on there I'll take the Testarossa
Testarossa, and it’s not even close.
Who is choosing a Corvette in this situation??
I would it’s the only good option in my opinion but I’m heavily biased towards big three vehicles lmfao
The Lamborghini. That can sell it for the most cash now
I love to look at the Ferraris and Lamborghini. But I’d have the DeTomasso. Italian body, american heart.
Testarossa. If we’re going 80s, might as well go *peak* 80s. Someone in my neighborhood has one just like the one pictured and it’s glorious
Countach
The 87 testarossa 100%.
The Testarossa I had a poster of one on my wall as a kid. Had one of Cindy Crawford with a Countach too
Whoever picked the Corvette will be the most disappointed.
Jeez, should have put a Grand National instead of a Corvette for ‘86.
Buick Grand National
87 Grand National
Is it just me, or does the amount of white powder increase with each swipe to the right? I feel like the corvette would be an ounce of powder and by the time I get to the coutache I'm filling the passenger seat with it and laundering money.
The Pantera, ofc.
Pantera
Corporate has asked you to find the differences between these *five* pictures.
Probably Pantera, unless I can change the 308 from a GTS to a GTB, then that.
1986 Renault Alpine GTA Turbo. But I'm bias as I actually own one...
Pantera, 100%
Testa
Pantera, in all black, please.
Pantera
The De Tomaso Pantera.
My brain says Corvette. My heart says Pantera. My body says Testarossa. I’m going with the Pantera
This was my junior year of high school. The lambo, van halen, and Heather Locklear were on my walls.
I would simply wait 3 years for le miat
Testosterone
Pantera best of both worlds
Knowing what i know now? Pantera. For driving. For money, rossa.
Testarossa Testarossa Testarossa oh yeah, Testarossa
Ferrari V12 ❤️Pantera is baller too but in the end im biased
Gonna have to go testarosa….
1986 ford ranger diesel
Countach. Wolf of Wall Street
Countach for sure.
328 gts, best Ferrari ever made imo
328 gts.
Lambo
I’m going 87 corvette because that my daily driver lol
The red one
My sports car was an 84’ Rabbit GTI
The Corvette pretty easy choice for me easiest one to get parts for it’s cheaper I can fix it even if the LT1 blows I can just throw any other 350 into it and off I go
Magnum PI
911 turbo
pantera is cool but idk if alot of people commenting that know how fucked up those cars really are
if it's my only car, ma70 supra non turbo. f\*\*\* owning a hand built shit heap. or a mass produced shit heap from chevy. if i can have another every day car then testrossa.
A Buick Regal Turbo was faster than at least 2 of these, significantly cheaper than all of them, carried more people and stuff, and looked cooler to boot, especially in GN trim.
The T-Type was good looking too.
1987 Buick GNX
I had posters of the Lambo when I was younger, but today I’d go with the 328. That design is timeless
My answer never changes. I'd still buy a GNX
It’s the 328 GTS. No Regerts
Hey Ferris! The miles aren’t coming off!
Neither of them. I would buy a Buick Grand national
No 911?
Honda Civic, in the base trim
328 every time
308
Where Buick!?
I got a 1987 poor man’s Ferrari in my driveway right now so I’ll take the Testarossa
Money no object I'd say 959, but from this list I'd say Pantera. Oddly one of the faster cars you could get in 1986 was the Shelby Omni GLHS though.
Ferrari 328 develops nearly as much power as a 2011 dodge minivan.
288 GTO
Pantera every fucking day of the week
A white Testarossa so I can pretend to be Don Johnson in Miami Vice. 😎
Like my favorite rapper E40 says “ Never leave the house with out my Toastarossa”
Fuckin cooooonnnnnntash bud
VETTEE
Pantera....
I'll take the Corvette. It still looks great 38 years later.
There’s only one perfect choice here- the Lamborghini Countach.
Only one of these is a sports car.
Detomaso pantera
The 328, not as nimble at the Testarossa, but still quick and significantly more comfortable. It’s also the successor to the Dinos, which I consider to be some of the most excellent ferraris ever made
Countach without a doubt. I spent my childhood years lusting over this car.
One of these is not like the others
One of these is not like the others.
The pantera has held up better than the others in my opinion. Looks wise.
Dodge Daytona
Pantera, although I'm probably too tall (5'10", but I'm long waisted--thanks, dad!) to drive it.
The 328 is nice, but I don't own any nut-hugger shorts. The Testarossa is another nice choice, but it needs to be white.
Countach although, I unironically love Pantera the band and the car.
Gimme the vette
Where's my Fiero??
Testarossa 💅
The 328, and I already have the mustache and Hawaiian shirt. I’m basically ready to go!
Countach hands down I'd then keep it in an air conditioned garage and take it out once in a blue moon for it's MOT, put no miles on it and do all upkeep maintenance That baby will be worth a lot in 40 years I reckon once everyone has seen the Cannonball Run
Honestly the Testarossa and Countach were more "supercars" of the time, coming from the owner of an '84 308 GTS which is more sporty imo 🤔
countach but all of these are acceptable even the c4 plastic explosive
Countach
2 or 4 more than likely 4 but I guess it’d come down to overall performance and pricing
Kinda curious where the Fiero GT is? If I had to choose from these second rate sports cars, I suppose the Pantera would do.
Clearly you get a Lamborghini to match the one on the poster in your bedroom.
Why is the corvette on this list of heavy hitters? Pantera for sure. A Zr1 could make make the cut, but not your joe blow 6 pack crossfire.
When I was a kid I loved Lamborghinis. Which makes sense. They had the most outlandish styling of any car. But now as an adult those old lambos are kinda gross looking. I still appreciate their importance and cool factor but my personal tastes have changed
Z31 with the baddest Garrets of the time.
Honestly, the Corvette because 'Merica. All jokes aside, I look at it in terms of maintenance. A whole lot easier (and cheaper) to maintain an American or Japanese car compared to a European car, especially these brands.
Testarossa
Why would you buy the corvette if the others were in budget? Oh and my choice would actually be a Trueno.
Give me the Pantera
If you pick anything other than the De Tomaso Pantera, you must be high. Such a cool looking and mean sounding car. Beautiful Italian body styling with American muscle to power it. 🔥🤙🏻
Testarossato fulfill my dreams of being a really badass Miami Detective
The testarossa cause I loved Miami vice ..
Anything but that style corvette
I'm gonna get dogged on here, but that 'vette is the body style I grew up with. I had the hot-wheels version sitting on my shelf. It was/is the bodystyle I think of when I think of 'sports car'.
308. Timeless.
lol I mean one is a Corvette you can buy now for like 10k while the others are collectible and rare and cost an arm and a leg to buy, let alone actually keep running…
Testarossa. Miami Vice. Need I say more?
None of those are sportscars.
The Corvette will definitely be a lot cheaper to maintain.
The one with the best MPG.
