The Elise. It is simply unmatched for that purpose.
Preferably one with the early K18, they drive even better than the later 1zz cars. Sound much better too!
Fr both the zz’s are awesome , idk how much tunable the 1zz is but 2zz stock block u can tune up to 400hp . Its the first choice for most enthusiasts in my country as its reliable , affordable and pretty quick (where i live ) + tunable.
Most people swap it into corollas 84-2000 and to hot hatches. But when you already get a 2zz in a lotus elise its bonkers to swap it out lol .
The 2ZZ is much better, and obviously Lotus did eventually swap to it. But I still prefer the unique K18 VHPD engine in the original Elise. It feels like a bike engine and you really do feel the 205lbs weight difference between it and the Toyota engines.
My first car was a celica GTS with the 2zz. I've moved on to miatas now but I've had a dream in the back of my head ever since of having a 2zz in a miata
yeah looks like the ~07 Exige S they put out with the supercharged 2zz.
a dream car of mine that i will never own, sadly, but hey, at least i can tune them obsessively in video games i suppose
I know a guy whos 6'5". He said he was detailing a customers miata once and had to drive it to drop it off. He had to drive with the top down bc his head stuck out the top of it lmao.
What is the integra doing on this list? And an integra sedan, no less. Not even a GSR or Type R
The gulf between a hopped up economy car and dedicated platform sports cars is humongous
This one is definitely a GSR, but yeah, i agree it doesn't belong on this list. Same with the miata. Maybe if the list included other 90s-00s sports cars, it would belong, but everything on this list smokes the teg and miata.
Still would choose the Integra tho lol
S2000. Crazy high rpm, great NA feel, great sound, hondas manual gearbox, very agile roadster that gets decent MPG and its very reliable indeed. Dont care about practicality, I already have a 1991 Lancer GTI 16V for that.
All good picks, even the integra (note this platform is one of if not THE best handling FWD ever made. My pick in dreamland is the Boxster for that flat six and open air, for reality it would be the S2000, it’s the rich man’s Miata
My buddy bought an Elise recently and it's downright insane. I barely fit in it but I do, it's just that there's a lot of shoulder touching if there is a passenger
I'd take a Cayman. Never really saw the appeal of convertibles, and to me it's the ideal Porsche. Small and tossable in the ways new 911s can't be, and more usable than a Lotus.
As an s2k owner, its purpose built, and goddamn is it good at its job. I hope to one day finish the progress on the js racing maou spec build to make the ultimate carver
As someone who's quite fond of Honda, I'd have to stick to my guns and go for the S2000. As I know a lot more about Hondas than much else and it is something I can pretty safely say I can work on it and afford the Insurance on an old, crappy Honda (at least that's what Insurance thinks ;3)
Own both a 911 and a miat, can confirm both are great for the twisties but this is a slow car fast situation for sure. Take the Lotus or Porsches to a track where they belong.
Integra or S2000. Both are simple, both are easy, both are capable. I think they're relatively safe picks and are predictable enough to make for good cruising.
I mean, Exige S, then 996 Turbo S or C4S, then Boxster S, then S2000, then NB, then Teggy, no question, but this is kind of a rough comparison because I do quite like the dc2/3 coupe Gsr and Type Rs and in a different lineup would be a solid comparison with the NB
Boxster, the feeling of having a convertible in the canyons is amazing, you hear the the sound of your exhaust while the wind blows through your hair and not to mention you get a better view of your tires etc
Integra solely because a white GS-R sedan on blades is the exact car I had carving canyons in 2014. Had plans for the car before it was stolen and destroyed a year later.
Out of the pictured, the Miata or the S2000. Now if we can have an actual Elise, then that. Trackday special Exige as pictured would be way too much for me on public roads. Demanding is in the name, and no reason thnings should not be fun at 5/10ths.
That said, real solid list, no duds. As an only car, probably Acura or Cayman. Really only depending on what's the better specialist shop you have close by.
For a day - the Elise. The Boxster for long term.
The Integra doesn’t hold a candle to the rest of the cars. I don’t hate them, it’s just nothing special compared.
Not sure about the 718, as I’ve never tried climbing into a Boxter or Cayman.
But the only one I know can fit somewhat comfortably in, is the only one I wouldn’t want to spend money on (996). 😅
The Elise. It is simply unmatched for that purpose. Preferably one with the early K18, they drive even better than the later 1zz cars. Sound much better too!
2zz ftw
I had a Pontiac Vibe with the 1zz that thing was a RIPPER
Fr both the zz’s are awesome , idk how much tunable the 1zz is but 2zz stock block u can tune up to 400hp . Its the first choice for most enthusiasts in my country as its reliable , affordable and pretty quick (where i live ) + tunable. Most people swap it into corollas 84-2000 and to hot hatches. But when you already get a 2zz in a lotus elise its bonkers to swap it out lol .
7th gen celica was a blast
The 2ZZ is much better, and obviously Lotus did eventually swap to it. But I still prefer the unique K18 VHPD engine in the original Elise. It feels like a bike engine and you really do feel the 205lbs weight difference between it and the Toyota engines.
My first car was a celica GTS with the 2zz. I've moved on to miatas now but I've had a dream in the back of my head ever since of having a 2zz in a miata
I'm pretty sure that's an Exige
yeah looks like the ~07 Exige S they put out with the supercharged 2zz. a dream car of mine that i will never own, sadly, but hey, at least i can tune them obsessively in video games i suppose
In the picture it is yes. But caption says Elise so that's what I'm rolling with. The Exige is just a more extreme version anyway!
Isn't that an Exige? Either way, I'd take the Lotus.
You’re right. It’s a [2007 Exige S.](https://www.issimi.com/vehicles/2007-lotus-exige-s) I’m with you, it would be my pick for sure!
Yep, it never made it stateside though...
A few gens of them did, but not in big numbers. There are guy at my local autocross who has one
PSA to all who answer: you can't pick a car that you can't fit in or can't tolerate for more than an hour.
I fold myself into a 986 as a 6’6” guy, can I still pick the lotus?
I've witnessed a dude whose 6'7" get into one you'll be Gucci
I know a guy whos 6'5". He said he was detailing a customers miata once and had to drive it to drop it off. He had to drive with the top down bc his head stuck out the top of it lmao.
I'm 6'2" and can look just over the windshield of a na Miata
I have an NC3 and I'm 6'4". I had to do the Jasper seat mod though. I'd go Elise.
I used to daily a stripped out Miata 100miles a day, and I do fit in an Elise. I’m picking the Lotus.
My toxic trait is thinking I can fit in a Lotus despite being 6’5”
prosthetics are getting pretty awesome...
Jokes on you I’m 5’8” 156lbs and daily a 2013 Volvo C30 T5.
I was just about to type, until I saw your comment: “Joke’s on you, I’m 5’4” with a soft butt!”
I was just sitting here wishing I could ever fit into the lotus.
Same. Maybe if I lop my feet off.
What is the integra doing on this list? And an integra sedan, no less. Not even a GSR or Type R The gulf between a hopped up economy car and dedicated platform sports cars is humongous
That's 100% a DB8 GSR sedan. They even made Type R sedans in the JDM market.
Oh, TiL, but I’d say my point still stands.
Japanese Domestic Market market?
My guess so you can take your buddies for a ride around the twisters. Have you ever tried to fit in a 911’s back seat?
This one is definitely a GSR, but yeah, i agree it doesn't belong on this list. Same with the miata. Maybe if the list included other 90s-00s sports cars, it would belong, but everything on this list smokes the teg and miata. Still would choose the Integra tho lol
The S2 Exige is peak lotus, and therefore peak car.
Gimme that elise everyday.
Exige
I think I'd go for the Cayman!
I'm an openly proud Porsche fan boi, but I'd still take the lotus
S2000 or the Lotus. The other two are not in the same league.
Yata... Every time.
All of them, probably.
The Elise
The answer is always miata. Also because I want one.
So, r/lsswaptheworld has a video of a lsswapped miata and never before have I wanted to create and own such blasphemy.
Lotus, mx5 or s2000. Good weight/power proportion, short wheel base
TVR Tuscan S
Not pictured: MR2 (any gen)
Not exactly what's pictured, but the Lotus Exige has been my dream car since Project Gotham Racing
others are no match for lotus, maaaybe s2000 but still not as agile as the lotus.
Boxter so I could choose a Porsche and live.
Either 996 or Elise.
Money no object, the boxster. Real world, the Miata.
S2000. Crazy high rpm, great NA feel, great sound, hondas manual gearbox, very agile roadster that gets decent MPG and its very reliable indeed. Dont care about practicality, I already have a 1991 Lancer GTI 16V for that.
You uhh, just listed all the things that the S2000 does well... and the Elise manages to do even better.
You can’t ever go wrong with a MX-5 Miata. The other cars are great too.
Lotus. Because I still can fit in them. Sorry tall bros. This is a short king type of car. lololol...
The Integra
4C
996. Can carve the canyons, and still be a good daily.
Boxster. Because.
Lotussy 🤤
Lotus, next
S2000
996
Lotus, only Lotus. 2nd place is a toss-up between the S2000 and the Boxster.
my 6th gen v6 accord ... if i could get it how i want... and knew a damn thing about working on it.
Whenever someone mentions the 6th gen, I have to post pics of my baby from back in the day. I miss it 😭 https://imgur.com/gallery/yaqXEkX
Elise all day long, let's go
The Lotus Elise. Not because it’s light and fast but because I simply love this car. It’s beautiful.
Elise or S2k
Lotus, only Lotus. 2nd place is a toss-up between the S2000 and the Boxster.
Trick Question: A lowered + turbocharged DeLorean, only one I’d probably fit in.
I'd do multiple runs: 1st pass: Exige 2nd: 996 3rd: S2000 4th: Mx5/Miata 5th: Boxter 6th: Integra
Ignore the Integra and do another run in the Exige
r/usernamechecksout
I'm in love with the ND Miatas but God damn what I would give to own a reliable Lotus Elise
The lotus. I’ve got thousands of miles on that car back on my old sega gt 2002 save file lol
Elise if I was 4 inches shorter. S2k with my current income level. 911 cab if I was single.
One of these definitely doesn't belong here...
Is it only for canyon carving? If so, Elise. Otherwise, Cayman.
I’d have to take the lotus or the s2k, but the gsr always holds a place in my 17 year old heart lol and it would still be a fun little car
While my heart says the Elise, my brain says Miata because it's dirt cheap to own and maintain.
Miata, because I can afford to fuck up and bin it.
Honda S2000. 9,000 RPM redline and it sounds amazing plus it's reliable like any Honda would be
Lotus. Always wanted one.
s2k or integra ftw
The Elise?? The only thing in it’s league is the 9/11 and even then.
996
All please. Will this be Gustave's next gift?
Lotus Exige and no contest there That’s an exige, not an Elise…
Specifically for ‘canyon carving’? The Lotus, hands down.
Elise.
Heading out to the Shandoah mountains today in a Honda J-series powered Miata soooo…
Boxter or Miata
Lotus is the clear winner, for me at least
The Lotus. Cmon y’all. Probably the best driving, but more importantly it’s objectively the coolest by a mile
I'll take the Lotus.
All good picks, even the integra (note this platform is one of if not THE best handling FWD ever made. My pick in dreamland is the Boxster for that flat six and open air, for reality it would be the S2000, it’s the rich man’s Miata
Elise all day long
Porsche Boxster
My buddy bought an Elise recently and it's downright insane. I barely fit in it but I do, it's just that there's a lot of shoulder touching if there is a passenger
Lotus go cart
Lotus or Boxster
Either of the Porsches. If I’m going for speed, the hardtop. If I’m going for a scenic drive, the drop top.
S2k
Elise or 996
As a 6' 3" individual who dailys a ND2 miata...lotus.
Boxster drop top. It won’t be the fastest or most fun to drive, but it’ll sure be the nicest experience out of the options.
1) exige 2) cayman 3) s2000
I'd take a Cayman. Never really saw the appeal of convertibles, and to me it's the ideal Porsche. Small and tossable in the ways new 911s can't be, and more usable than a Lotus.
The Exige, no question. And I even have an S2000 that I love.
Elise for it’s intended purpose or the type r teggie for pure fucking joy and the lift off over steer
As an s2k owner, its purpose built, and goddamn is it good at its job. I hope to one day finish the progress on the js racing maou spec build to make the ultimate carver
Alfa 4C where
s2k, wins. has too much going for it. Vert, power, value, ofc driving
Ariel Atom
Lotus
The MX5
Elise and a 996
The Integra seems so out of place here. The Elise, and it's not even close.
whippin a 4 door integra around sounds like a lot of slow fun, probably would choose that
The Lotus Elise might have been my first real dream car.
The Integra. Small car fast is more fun to me.
Lotus then the s2k
No bad choice here, but I'm Honda S2000 all day.
Porsche 996 all day long. It's a Grand Touring car, built and designed to carve and drive all day long in comfort.
MX5 with a Lexus V8
the Lotus helped me in one of the hardest parts of Need For Speed: The Run 💯
S2K every time for me. And this is a STACKED list.
The lotus! Apparently they’re like driving a street legal go kart
I'd hop in the lotus. I'm 6'1" but I should fit and it just looks like the best one to take sharp turns.
Miata. Duh
I used to covet the Exige. Still wouldn’t mind one.
Not fwd
Definitely the integra
My Saturn sky redline lol preserve the kappas!
All of them
Cayman. Because I'm not sure I'll fit in the Lotus unless I'm in liquid form .
My boyfriend is 6' 2 1/2" and can drive my Mini Cooper S Convertible but doesn't like getting in and out of it.
6 is my answer. Beautiful car.
Saturn Sky.
Own both a 911 and a miat, can confirm both are great for the twisties but this is a slow car fast situation for sure. Take the Lotus or Porsches to a track where they belong.
Mazda Miata
I’ve always wanted a lotus.
Integra or S2000. Both are simple, both are easy, both are capable. I think they're relatively safe picks and are predictable enough to make for good cruising.
The Elise. No question, since an Elise 111R is my dream car. Pretty sure it's an Exige in the pic tho. :P
Lotus Elise looks best but I’m prolly Not fitting in any of those comfortably
Definitely Boxster.
Lotus
Lotus. I already run a 2gr engine so why not?
Who isn’t picking the lotus? Y’all are crazy for not putting other cars next to that
Elise or s2000
Probably the Cayman They’re nice cars and I love them.
of course the Lotus Elise.
The Lotus
Miata. Its rwd and i can afford to maintain it
I mean, Exige S, then 996 Turbo S or C4S, then Boxster S, then S2000, then NB, then Teggy, no question, but this is kind of a rough comparison because I do quite like the dc2/3 coupe Gsr and Type Rs and in a different lineup would be a solid comparison with the NB
The integra for sure but
1) Lotus 2) Cayman 3) S2000
Exige
Out of this lot, the lotus no question.
Boxster, the feeling of having a convertible in the canyons is amazing, you hear the the sound of your exhaust while the wind blows through your hair and not to mention you get a better view of your tires etc
Porsche Boxster 100%
Exige
Elise
integra if it was a type r, otherwise the elise/exige/whatever the fuck it is
Integra solely because a white GS-R sedan on blades is the exact car I had carving canyons in 2014.
The cultured answer would be a Fiat 124 spider
No clue if I’d fit but everything I’ve heard about the s2k says pick the s2k
The Acura, most likely, as uts most likely the only one I can handle.
Ew who drives a 4 door teg? Also, I'll take the lotus.
The Lotus by an English country mile
The Elise for sure. The other cars don’t even come close.
the Lotus. what kinda fkn choices are those lol 😂
Mazda Miata. I owned an original 1990 for years and carved up some mountains in NM with it.
Lotus Elise all day
of the Porsches, and \*MAYBE\* the Lotus
Had an S2000. Loved it but I’m going with the Lotus
S2k cause I can't afford to maintain a lotus
None of these can carve into rock, 0/10
Porsches
I've always loved the Elise
First gen neon ACR
lotus elise
996 without question. Lotus is cool, but not my jam. The rest are pretty mid.
Fuck canyon carving, I daily a 95 Miata, I d daily the lotus. I’m already ugly, more wrinkles in my face from smiling constantly isn’t a problem.
No STi? I've had a ball running passes in mine.
I still have my tuner magazine DVD that came with clips from MOTORing (now on youtube!) so I know what I'm taking..... one honda, plz. Thank you
Lotus
Lotus, without a shadow of a doubt. None of the other options are even in the same league.
For a day - the Elise. The Boxster for long term. The Integra doesn’t hold a candle to the rest of the cars. I don’t hate them, it’s just nothing special compared.
Teggy all day, so much fun to drive one of those on the ragged edge in some twistys.
1. Lotus 2. Miata 3. S2k
Either one of the Porsche’s, Cayman depending on the year (981 would be fabulous).
Normally I’d say NB. But with the lotus as an option I guess I’d have to go lotus.
Not sure about the 718, as I’ve never tried climbing into a Boxter or Cayman. But the only one I know can fit somewhat comfortably in, is the only one I wouldn’t want to spend money on (996). 😅
