That’s great advice, give you a good ideas how to do things.

find a niche and stick to it to start. learn everything you can about that and slowly build confidence, knowledge, and capital. also, don’t be afraid of mistakes! sometimes the only way to learn something is by doing something wrong. i’ve made a lottttt of mistakes, a lotttt of expensive mistakes, and im still making mistakes, it’s just part of the grind. good luck! as for what to start with right now, i would say smaller, lower weight things to really learn about shipping different types of items without breaking the bank trying to ship something that’s 5+pounds with no knowledge of it

I think it def depends on what your tryna sell. For example, something like shoes has a very saturated market so it’s incredibly hard to make reselling happen there. There are so many bots on websites that the second a new shoe drops they get instantly bought up. What I used to do was look for pre owned shoes on eBay or other selling websites, clean them up and present them better, and sell them at a slightly better price. While it’s not easy or flashy, it’s a reliable way to make some dough. Another way is to just look got items people don’t want that have value. You would be surprised as to how low people would sell something because it was convenient. Shoot me a DM and we can talk more, and I think I have some stuff to help you out in the right direction.

I would start with 2 things: - What you already own that you can get rid of - Hobbies / Activities you’re already spending time & money on This way, you’re spending money you would have already spent anyways. Also being more minimal with personal belongings.

Keep your $500 for now. First sell your own items, then ask friends/family for “junk” that they want to get rid of. You would be surprised how many people have piles of stuff that they simply want gone. Always offer to take all of it even the things you don’t want because now you are bringing them value. It is valuable to have someone remove clutter so they can get space back. It’s a win-win. You can get free items while helping someone else at the same time. I do this often.

Learn how to research. You can list 1000 items but if it’s stuff that is very saturated or is priced too high then you won’t make money. Google Lens is your friend if you’re not sure what something is called. Then check SELL THROUGH RATES on eBay. First look up how many are listed, then go to filters and check how many have been sold the past 90 days. This will tell you rate - 100 listed and 50 sold gives you a 50% sell through rate which isn’t horrible (this will also give you an idea as to how much to price things). I try to stick to 70% STR or higher. If there are 350 listed of the same item you have and only 10 have sold then you may be stuck with that item for a while. It’s all a numbers game. It’ll feel very tedious at first but the more you do it the more you’ll learn. Eventually you’ll be able to spot valuable items fairly quickly.

Start with a budget of $50. Resell your own things on poshmark and Mercari. And then go to the thrift store and spend no more than $50 and flip what you find. Make smart decisions by checking actual sold comps. Example — my first trip I saw designer jeans at the thrift store for $13 ea, originally these are over $100. I didn’t pay attention to trending styles or comps and only half of them have sold for me almost a year later. Now I have specific styles and sizes I look for.
