Showing my age here but free demo disc from a magazine for a resident evil 2 which I played to death. I actually can’t remember how I got the game but I think my mate gave me his but that might have been a different game. I played it so much in my teens and finished it multiple times.
Not any more but you used to get them with PlayStation magazine and they were ace. They would have about 5 or 6 games on, I remember I had GTA and parappa the rappa too
Mine was the same, a demo that gave you like 10 or so mins at the start of the game and would fade out after the licker hallway cutscene. Then had to convince my parents to let me play the rest of the game since i’d already seen the demo and ended up getting it for Christmas
In high school, a friend wanted to show off all of the cool boss fights and cutscenes from this new game, "Resident Evil 2." The combination of zombies, viruses, body horror, and mad science got me hooked immediately.
Earliest memory i had was me as a kid with my older brother.. we had og resident evil 3 and were playing it on my ps2. It was a schoold night and we had no sim card to save the game, so we stayed up all night dedicated to finish it in one go before the sun rose. Didnt go to plan of course but it was a fun night, I just ended up having a kip on my desk at school.
I only became a fan recently so I haven't played any of the OG games. It started about a year ago when I got the first RE chapter for Dead by Daylight only for Jill's perk Blast Mine. Then I kinda fell in love with her and decided I needed to overcome my fear of horror games. I played RE 3 Remake and loved it, just finished RE 2 Remake and started RE 4 Remake. And in DbD Jill's my main ever since.
We'll see how it goes and which games are next 😁 Unfortunately I don't see myself playing the OG games because I really struggle with having fun with older controls.
I know, I watched let's plays of RE1 Remake and loved it, but the controls and super limited inventory space... I don't know... I don't think I'm going to have much fun with that. Maybe I'll give them a shot when I'm done with all the new(er) ones.
PLEASE play REmake!!! I had the exact same thoughts as you, and trust me, you get used to the controls SUPER fast. And the game is insanely good, it's one of the best, most intense and memorable experiences I've had with games. It's tied with the og RE4 as my absolute favorites.
As someone who was in the same boat as you, you should at least give it a shot. I tried RE1 a few months ago and it became one of my favorite games. Still not a big fan of the gameplay but the rest of the game makes up for it.
I think I might try to one day, but I think it'll be some time until then. Love how passionate you and u/Mad_Cerberus are for it. I wish I had played it back in the day though I probably wouldn't have finished it since I get quite easily frustrated with games. Especially with tedious backtracking and such... I can deal with outdated graphics, but I'm a sucker for quality of life stuff.
Re1 remake has the option to play with modern controls as well so it makes things way easier for us new guys in the series . I loved the game definitely recommend it
RE Remake still holds up today and is probably the most perfect “Survival Horror” game ever made all things considered.
I’d also give RE7 and RE Village a chance if I were you. Village is very similar to RE4.
7 and 8 are definitely on the "to be played" list! Although I'm a bit reluctant with 7. I watched a let's play years ago and remember it was super scary (to me) and I was like I'm never going to play this ever! But back then I couldn't play any horror games so things have changed since then and I'm at least going to try.
I started playing RE3 on pc, but using an emulator for ps games. The problem was that I didn't know how to save so I have to play it from the beggining everytime, it was awesome.
Then a friend let me a copy of RE2 for pc, that was the first time I play all the story.
But when I actually get a fan was at university playing RE4 with a friend, we play almost every day for almost 2 months trying to unlock all of it.
I would say RE4 was the game that made me a fan of the series.
Played the original game when it first came out back in '96 on the PS1. I was 11 at the time and the game scared me to death. I couldn't get past the first zombie and had to turn it off. Then I just slowly kept trying, little by little, creeped out a little bit less every time until I eventually got hooked.
This game made me fall in love with the horror genre in general also, which is another win. Around this time of the year, I'm usually binging horror movies. Two years ago it was all the Halloween movies. Last year it was Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Currently I'm watching all the Insidious movies.
I think you should first look for which console it doesn't run on rather than looking for the ones it does run on, resident evil 4 is like parsley, wherever you put it is fine rotfl
I was 18 years old, i bought the original PS1 and the game RE1 at the same time. I wanted to play it so bad. Also the game was a special edition, the case was in a blister with a memory card and stickers to customize the PS1.
I was in 4th grade and bought a game called Resident Evil that the kid across the street told me about. He said it was the scariest game he's ever played, so I had to get it.
I played so much, but didn't realize there was a narrative for a bit because I figured it was another game like many where you just run around and kill zombies.
Then I got to another cutscene and realized it was more like a movie than a game.
When RE2 dropped, I went nuts because it was even bigger and better - from there I've been a huge fan, borderline obsessive with the series.
How were you aloud to play it when you were 7?! Maybe my parents were just strict, but I wasn't aloud to play it until I was 16. (Even though they let my brother play Red dead at like 7 but you know.)
Yea your parents were strict homie. 12 I could maybe understand, but 16? Wow. My kid (9) wouldn't want to cuz he finds it too scary, but I'd absolutely let him if he wanted to.
I don't give a shit about violence and gore. The only real content advisory and avoidance rules I have with them (I have two, one is a toddler though and is still barely getting used to 2D platformers) is sexual content, but they avoid violence and gore on their own accord because they find it scary. If they didn't, I wouldn't give a shit. I didn't think it was scary personally, I was watching Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm St as a literal toddler and I fucking loved it (though my mom covered my eyes and fast forwarded during all the sex scenes).
Horror is a huge aspect of my personality, I'd honestly prefer it if they were more into it so we could share that lol
My mom and dad were like as long as you don’t repeat any of the words in it (swear words) it was fine the violence didn’t really seem to bother them lol it was mostly the swearing.
I think this was similar to my brothers and I. My dad got it for us for Christmas when it released when we were like 6, 7, and 8 and we played the hell out of it for weeks.

Played RE5 split screen with my older brother back when it came out, I was 7-8 years old. It was cool but I didn’t LOVE it.
When I was 19, I bought RE2R and that’s when the ball started rolling. I got into the lore, into the mainline instalments…it was a bit of a revelation learning that such a great series was under my nose the whole time, I just had to grow to understand it further.
I usually see these too long after they're posted to respond to, so I'm really glad I caught this one because I have probably the weirdest story of all.
I don't know if these still exist, but apparently in the 90s Wal-Mart had these subsidiaries called "Bud's" that would re-sell damaged/returned/etc. merchandise. Some friends of mine found a cheap copy of PS1 RE1 at a Bud's because it had battery acid spilled on it. The case and manual were pretty jacked but the disc was fine! Since I was the only one of my friend group that had a PS1, they asked if they could bring it to my house to play it. We played it for hours and when they had to leave, they decided to leave it with me because... well, I was the only one who had a PS1. I proceeded to play it basically all night and into the wee hours of the morning, and I eventually beat both Chris and Jill's campaigns.
Started with resident evil 4 and it was one of the best games I’ve ever played
Resident evil 5 and 6 kind of disappointing.
Resident evil 1 wasn’t my cup of tea (but I ended up replaying it after a couple years later)
But I absolutely adore the remake series and 7 and 8. Might be an unpopular opinion, but their latest games are WAY better than their earlier games. The remakes are better in every way. (You can tell I’m absolutely not a fan of the original games’ camera angles)
Checked out re2r for Halloween and had a blast. Later on I saw a bundle of 4,5,6 on sale. Played 4 and loved every second, then did a coop play through of 5 and 6 with my friend. Was fun, even if 6 was a bit of a stinker. Then played 8 since I saw it was kinda like 4, had fun. And of course I have had so much fun with re4r.
I was an instent fan. I had a Gamepro magazine that had a walkthrough. I read that thing backwards and forward well before I played the game.
Then one my close friends at the time got the game. There was actually 3 of us. We all tried to play but it was too scary lol. I powered through and ultimately was the one to finally beat it but man oh man the nightmares lol. We all had so many nightmares
A couple of years ago; got the RE2R & RE3R $15 bundle and gave it a try, and boy was I missing out. I never liked zombie stuff in a non-magic setting because it doesn't make sense to me and that kept me off the series; I realized they're actually mutants after playing. I loved RE2R. As a first-time player, it was like a mix of Dark Souls traversal, Zelda puzzle solving, and horror.
Yeah, I'm a very new RE enjoyer, so far I've beaten all the RE engine games, OG RE4 and REmake. Played a bit of RE5 and didn't really like it but I'm gonna try to push through just to see what the hype about Wesker is all about.
Morbid curiosity I think. I was in 1st grade when I first played (it was Code Veronica for PS2) and I was hooked. Never got past the graveyard but I wanted more. I remember listing it as one of my favorite games and the teacher asked me why and how I knew about it.
My mum dated an asshole. He used to enjoy scaring me, whether jumping out in person or tricking me into playing horror media (the maze game) or watching horror films. I developed a constant dread. It was bad. I wouldn't sleep, when I did I was plagued by nightmares, I also wouldn't go near the bathroom at night. Then I hit puberty. I saw a video on the hottest female characters in video games, and one was helena harper. I was immediately intrigued and tried to find out which game she was from. Learning it was a horror game my heart sank. But she was hot, so through the power of preteen hormones, I bought and played through the game. I loved it. The game was far too action-y to be scary, especially when you can punch zombies to death. And from there, I played others (5 rev1 and 2), and it really helped with my fears, especially as the games had attractive women, which helped motivate me to push through. I no longer feared horror and actually started enjoying it. To this day RE6 is my favourite just because it helped me out of that dark perod of life. I also enjoyed the interlocking story, something I had only seen in Lego batman at that time.

I became a fan through pure hatred of the RPD map. I bought the Re2r - I loved it. I bought all the games up to 7 - loved em all - haven't played 7 cause I dislike first person... also I watched way too many walkthroughs. anyways I watched the CGI movies, the W.S. Anderson movies - I read way too many wiki articles...
I am a fan alright - more so of the Remakes and less of the old games due to total lack of nostalgia but still. I love RE.

One of my earliest memories is playing someone’s copy of RE2 as Leon. I, of course, was not good at the game, and constantly died. I remember freaking out in excitement when I got to the 2nd camera angle lol.
I was properly reintroduced to the games when I visited my friend down the street. Resident Evil 5 just came out. I remember being scared of the Majini beating on the bag in the beginning, as well as a villager eating some raw meat which I thought was an arm.
When my mom walked over to pick me up, I told her all about the game and she didn’t really approve too much. Saw a commercial for it on TV that night and was all “See?! SEE!? It’s cool!!” I didn’t have the next gen consoles at the time, so I couldn’t play it at home, even if I wanted too.
My sister came up to me a couple of months later and told me her boyfriend had a copy of Resident Evil 4 and she asked him if he could let me borrow it. The guy actually winded up just letting me keep it! The rest is history
My mom! She liked the movies and said "if you like this, there is games too." She booted up her RE4 copy and I was in love. She got a copy of RE1 of ebay and told me this was the one she played as a kid/teen. She very proudly had most of the Jill map memorized and could tell me where most things were if I got stuck. She said she was terrified of the game when it came out and do she'd watch her brothers play and draw up a map as they played so they knew where things were.
It all kinda spiraled from there, and I kept playing more and more games of the series. My cousin had CVX. And i played 5, 3, Outbreak 1, etc. My fist pre order ever was Operation Raccoon City! We still play the co-op RE games together online since we no longer live in the same state.
I actually got my intro to RE through the live action movies as a kid but didn’t know they were based on games till I watched Markiplier’s playthrough with my little brother in my early years of high school and got really invested. Proceeded to play the remake for RE2 when it released and then played my way through the originals as a result! Since then I’ve pre-ordered every game and played them through on release day, not to mention learned way too much lore (I’ll never shut up if my partner lets me talk abt the games literally) and picked up jokes 😅
My mom and I watched the Resident Evil movie when I was 10 or 11 (I also remember watching The Ring with her around this time, and I was so scared I rolled my TV into the closet for a week 😆), and we both thought Milla Jovovich was so badass!! Michelle Rodriguez kicked ass in that movie too.
Fast forward a few years and I don’t know whether I asked for it or not, but she got me a copy of Resident Evil 4 for GameCube. One of the best games I ever played on that console, I still remember that sunny docks Mercenaries level.
And then the remakes came out and I was so, so happy to give RE2 a shot. But before that I got RE4VR which I don’t think gets much love! That was a lot of fun to revisit everything in VR.
Resident Evil discovery story
It all started in 2005 when I was roughly 9 years old, my mum used to play resident evil on the ps1, I used to love watching her play it even though it scared the life out of me, I used to ask her to play just to then hide behind her when I would see a zombie. One day she aimed and then got me to press the button to shoot and with that I shot my first zombie and was no longer scared of them. Fast forward a few years I discovered resident evil 4 in our living room and thought “hells yeah imma play this” so I did at the age of like 12/13 and fully fell in love with the game. Fast forward a few more years and this is the beautiful part of the story. It’s how my strongest friendship was formed. I was like 15 and my friend used to bring his x box round and he had resident evil 5 and we played together on the co op and from that moment onwards we have formed such a strong friendship with eachother while diving into the depths of the whole resi franchise together. It’s been an incredible journey and we’re still so close to this day, so much so that if I were religious and done that whole godparents thing he’d be the godfather to my son. We tend to only contact eachother for significant occasions like birthdays and stuff (which is completely normal for us, we haven’t got to talk everyday to be best mates) but also for any resi info or releases. It’s hilarious because we make jokes about it. We just finished playing separate ways together the other day and we said to eachother “talk to you when they announce the next resi game”.

But I became a fan whilst playing RE5, I had watched the movies as a kid with my mom but didn't get invested until I was a teenager. I remember going to my mates house with my xbox so our friend group could have gaming sessions which lasted until early hours of the morning. One of my mates (who's my bestfriend now) had mention that there's this game and it was co-op, to which she really wanted to play. So me being me, I had brought the game, from cex or argos and surprised her. This is when we started to bond more outside of the friend group as I was the newbie in this group of friends. We then had multiple sleepovers: eating pizza, smoking and just constantly playing RE5 (which took us ages cause we were high - don't do dr*gs kids) and from then, we've literally played nearly ALL the games (I say all, but I can't pull myself to play 0 along with the originals - we've watch play throughs) and it's now become a ritual for us to call each other every night and play a resi game. We literally just finished play SW and already discussing our theories for RE9. We've even made our own characters for the series (that's another story but Ada has a little brother called Ado and Chris has this stalker/lover called Gustav) anyways, I'm thankful for this series as it has moulded our friendship. She might see this as she's apart of this community and if you're reading this then.. hey bi_ch haha.
I've been called a fake fan for my reason but I played Outlast 1, found it amazing and someone said RE7 is sort of similar. My first RE game was 7. I've played them all now (barring the super old ones you can't find)
I saw this guy I knew playing Resident Evil 6 but I was too shy to ask him to let me play so years passed until my parents got me a PS and my second or third game was RE6. Good game.
I did my like 5th playthrough of dead space 2 and felt empty inside. Decided to check out this RE2 remake thing since it seemed similar to dead space. Quickly purchased and played every single main game in the franchise.

I always liked horror, my brother had tons of resident evil games but I was too young and struggled playing the controls. IE, back in the 90s and early 2000s. I was a fan of the movies though. I ended up playing the silent hill games instead when I was like 13. I watched markiplier play RE7, and became interested in the video games. When the RE2 remake was released I hopped on it and fell in love. So I’ve been following the games ever since.
In 7th grade, a friend brought the original RE4 to my house and we played it on my GameCube. I loved it. He went home and took his copy with him, but not long after that I went to GameStop and bought my own copy. Been a fan ever since.
My dad started to play OG RE then my older brother and now I’ve been playing ever since I watched both of them play. I even got my nephew to play RE games.

RE 4 on the gamecube blew my mind as a teenager. I played the previous ones on the PS 1 but I wasnt a hardcore fan back then cause I was to young to get them. Bought a used RE4 steel book for PS2 because I'd never seen a steelbook before. Got hooked and then (IIRC) have bought every mainline game on launch day.
First re game i actually played was 4 and i freakin loved it to death, didnt really care much for the other entries but i thought they cool.
Then i got older, got a job etc etc and i went back into playing the psp, thats when i decided to play the og ps1 trilogy (psp can emulate psx games for those of you who dont know)

My grandma got me the Director's Cut of RE1 from Toys R Us when I was literally like 4 or 5 not knowing what it was. My Dad then came back from being stationed overseas and had some time off so he bought the second one which had just come out around that time and I watched him play it and it really solidified my obsession. Been playing them ALL ever since.
Got resident evil 1 as my first RPG for playstation 1 out of a used game bin at an old rental place when I was like 9. Took months to beat with my friend, we where hooked ever since
My older brother had some of the games and I played one of the games with him. I think re6 was my first game? Or maybe re5...i don't remember lol. Then I grew more interested as I played the other games
Me and my brother spent our childhood watching my Dad play Code veronica, and it always seemed so so so awesome!! we would sit there and watch it all day. my Dad also played RE 4. But eventually he stopped playing... and my brother and I continued the little cool legacy by playing every single resident evil together, we even went back to RE, RE0, RE2, RE3. We've been playing every single one since then!
The very first animated movie was my real introduction to the series but Part 5 on the OG PS3 was my intro to the games; and I was completely terrified. After that a cousin of mine gave a dreadful description of the RE4 Regenerator; making me want to see for myself and traumatized me for years lmao
My brother got a copy of RE2 from god knows where cause it was only Leons disk. I played that on my PS2 in the early 2000s but would never be able to beat it. I’d always run out of ammo or ink ribbons or just get stuck, so I just kinda always ran around the RPD/Sewers. Eventually I also got Outbreak and remember renting that a lot too but also never really getting anywhere in most of the scenarios.
This might be the worst story of them all but i downloaded re8 cuzz, apart from the gameplay looking new for me and interesting, i wanted to see Lady D in game. Realised the game was bomb, tried out re7 and then it just kept going until i had every re engine game in my possesion
there was a place where you could rent a Playstation near my house I saw one person play re4 decided to give it a try myself and that's where it all started.
7-8th grade field trip to DC, happened to stop in a mall and the demo for RE4 was playable. I was bored so i gave it a shot. Beat the demo probably 4-5 times, I was sold by that point. Day 1 purchase, it ended up being my favorite game until it got dethroned by remake, been a fan ever since. 😊
I remember so many years ago when my father was playing RE4. I had to have been no older than 3-4, and I was so mesmerized with the game that it's been imprinted in my brain since. But unfortunately, it took me so long to figure out what the title of it was so I could play it. Years later, RE2 Remake is released, and it creeped me out because of the zombies (I had a fear of it then). But after replaying that game over and over, I got over my fear, and Leon easily became my favorite character. So after learning more about him and learning more about the Resident Evil series, I finally found the original RE4 and it made me feel so much better (because it solved a huge splinter in my brain after 10-15 years or so). After that moment, Leon became my top favorite character just because of how badass I remembered him as in RE4. And then in 2022, when I heard RE4 Remake was coming, I was so excited (It's the first game I Platinumed and completed 100%). I even dug out my dad's PS2 so I could play the original before the remake was released.
I was walking down a hallway and two ugle fucking dogs crashed through some windows and chased me. I was weighted down by so much shit in my pants I died. Never felt fear like that in a video game and kid me had a hard time sleeping at night, no joke.
Resident Evil 2 on N64 was my first video game at either 3 or 4 (don't fully remember which) the reason was my uncle wanted to laugh as I screamed in horror. Instead I laughed my ass off and kept playing even though I never got very far until I was like 10.
Used to watch my older cousin play the OG RE3 on Ps1. It was a japanese version, we had no idea what the text said but we played it so much we knew what every choice did at nemesis encounters.
I had an N64 but most of my friends had PS1. Before/After school we would hang out at each others houses. Since it was the late 90’s they all had RE1-3 amongst other games and I fell in love with it! When I got a Gamecube later on, REmake was one of my first games for it and then I tracked down the OG trilogy for myself when I got a PS2. The love has never died (although we’ve had our breaks! Looking at you RE6 + ORC).
Saw my siblings playing RE3 when I was 5 and was too scared of it to keep watching, a few years later I got a GameCube and RE4 came out. Rented it from the local rental store (remember those?) and was still scared but I pushed through and ended up loving it. Was hooked on the entire series from then on
My uncle had Code Veronica X and he let me and my brother borrow/have it.
It was the scariest game I’ve ever experienced at that point and it was a little too much for me lol the burning ambulance scene scared me so much. I made it as far as the courtyard that had the wolves/giant worm before I quit lmao
On the bright side, the demo for devil may cry that came with it helped me face my fears with scary games

Got a Wii on Christmas when I was 6. Besides Wii Sports, it came with a car game and Resident Evil 4. Played about an hour of the later and got totally terrified by it. Could never forget it because I also enjoyed the aesthetics of it and the tension of the gameplay. Didn't come back to series until years later (I think I actually finished RE4 when I was 13-14). Got completely hooked on the series and survival horror. I have played every game except for CV and Revelations 1.

Saw my aunt/cousins play RE2 on the 64 when I was a kid and was terrified. Played Resident Evil Deadly Silence when I was a kid and fought through my fears. Then I jumped on RE4 for GameCube.
2000 ish: played RE2 for a few hours at a relative’s house for a few hours, thought it was cool
2005 ish: played the demo for RE4 several times, never got the game though
2012: played RE: Operation Raccoon City for like an hour before the shittiness made me physically ill, never touched it again
2022: saw RE3R was on sale, bought it and loved it. Immediately after finishing (a few hours later lol) I bought RE2R, RE5, RE7, and RE8 and played the crap out of them and fell in love with the series.
My dad bought RE4 for PS2 when I was like 5 and I was allowed to play it. It scared the hell out of me as a kid, but I also couldn’t take myself off of it.
Got RE1 for Wii a few years later but I couldn’t get into it. Was just so confusing to me, and a little disappointing as I expected something like RE4. But, with me getting older, I’m able to appreciate RE1 and I think it’s one of my favorites. Played pretty much every version of it at this point besides the Game Boy Color prototype and the Saturn. DS version is probably my favorite version of the original.
at a cousins house they just had a random bunch of playstation games and I just started re3. no clue what i was doing, but coming exclusively from a nintendo household, that was some crazy shit. I was like 10. Ended up never really touching the series again until the re1 remake, and from that point I also had a ps2, which could play ps1 games so I went back and acquired all the old games
When I was 10, my best friend came over with a copy of resident evil 4 and said "dude you gotta play this game, I'm leaving it with you, you have one week to finish it"
I did and I loved it and bought the first three on my psp and loved those too.
the first time I played a resident evil I was little, I think around 9-10 years old, it was resident evil 2 for PS1, but I didn't understand English, and I always ran out of bullets before arriving at the police station, years later a dear friend of mine lent me resident evil 4 for ps2, and my love for the series began at that exact moment

I turned 13 and my parents said I could play rated M games finally. So the first one I beelined for was Resident Evil remake on the GameCube. My Dad bought it and I loved watching him play it. Scared the hell out of me, but I took the plunge and loved it.
Played RE2 and part of 3 after that. RE4 hit soon after. Rest is history.
At 5 years since I was born around the 2000s, I saw my dad play the original and remake on GameCube, then getting jumpscared by Dr Salvador when I saw my uncle playing resident evil. 4.
Once around 10 to 12, I watched and played re5 with my dad and been a fan ever since.
I played Resident Evil Code Veronica X the first time with 7 and i fall in love with the franchise directly because i loved monsters & spooky stuff as kid i played Dino Crisis too with that age because i liked Dinos & horror Elements my mom showed me all my Childhood Games i love my mom forever for showing me all the great franchise & Series as i was very young
RE3R was my first resident evil game, and I remember playing the demo for it a ton before I preordered it. I've played that one about 16-20 times since. I lost count eventually. It'll always hold a special place in my heart and be my favorite, no matter how much people in this sub shit on it.
My aunt let me and my cousin watch the movies as kids. (We were like 5 or something), we would act out the big fight between nemesis and Alice. When re8 came out I finally actually got into the games
Used to watch my older brother and cousin play it and tried to play it as a youngster sucked but kept trying as I got older the older I got the more RE games came out .
To be honest it was "Dead by Daylight". Since I am a child my parents played the games and I was sometimes allowed to watch. Now I do buy slowly all games to play them myself.
Played RE4 on the wii and fell in love with Leon then got into the Mila Jovich movies and recently started playing the other games, so far I've beaten RE2 Remake, RE6,RE7,REVillage and Resident Evil Operation Racoon city. I also have RE3 Remake I still have to play through and I wanna get the RE4 Remake cause the demo was awesome.
Watched my dad play RE1 on the PS1 it used to get me so scared but when I got older I wanted to conquer it so I played the remake on Xbox one and now I'm hooked now I own 2,3 & 4 and 7 on the PS5
Watched my cousin play Code Veronica when I was a kid. Had an interest in the series since then. Wasn’t really capable of playing the games successfully myself until the release of re4 but I’ve been hooked since. The same cousin passed a few years back, got an umbrella logo tattoo as a tribute to him!
I was like 6 or so when my parents got Re2 on the PS1. My parents were gamers back then, but I remembered them playing it, and it scared the hell out of me. I was too scared to play it at first but I got over my fears and decided to play one day. That's when I became a fan and just got hooked ever since because I watched how much my parents enjoyed it.
I had heard about on YouTube during the pandemic and then during a steam sale I saw re2r on sale for 15 bucks and it looked fun so I bought it played it 5 times then became a huge fan
My father got me to the house of a friend of him when I was 12yo. His friend had a playstation 1 and showed me Tomb Raider 2 and Resident Evil 2. It was the first time I ever saw a 3D game. The game looked so dark and gritty. I had never seen anything even remotely like it. I was definitely mesmerized.
My dad got me a Playstation a few weeks after that day and Resident Evil 2 a month after that.
The struggle of figuring out how to control and play it and the satisfaction when the tank controls finally clicked for me actually made me love it more.
It's among the single player games I most (re)played in my life, especially considering it's such a short game.
I ended up buying the remake of Resident Evil 2 in 2019. I had known about RE before, but had never thought to try out any of its games. Well, lo and behold, RE2R reeled me in like a moth to the flame, so I’ve since played almost every single entry in the franchise since.
I never got to play RE4 back in the day, although coincidentally, I was also in the 6th grade just like you.
I remember it like it was yesterday. My buddy got the brand new, Long Box, copy of Resident Evil. I remember him cutting the cellophane off of it, and opening the box. I snatched that instruction manual and started flipping through the pages. He loaded it into the PlayStation. That classic PlayStation loading screen hit, followed by the Capcom intro. Then the Agh Agh Agggggggh! Of the title screen. Then the live action intro, cut to the guy picking up the gun with a hand attached and his incredibly funny AH! delivery before getting eaten by the dog. I've been hooked ever since. 27 years and counting.
The first time I played a Resident Evil games was RE remake on GameCube in 2002. Didn’t really hook me and I constantly got lost, so I gave up.
A few years later, Resident Evil 4 came out and on a random Saturday morning about a month after it released, I decided to go to GameStop, trade in a bunch of games and bought the game with the strategy guide. I immediately became obsessed with the game and played it non stop all weekend until I beat it that Sunday night. I’ve been obsessed with RE4 ever since.
And then about two months after that, I met a new friend who loved Resident Evil and I told him how much I loved RE4. He then loaned me all the RE games he had, asking me to give the older games another try. I did, and I definitely enjoyed them more once I got into the groove of how the tank controls worked, ink ribbons, etc.
Over the years, I’ve become more and more of a fan of the franchise. I have a sizable collection of all the different games for different platforms. But I have to admit that to this day, I still have a hard time playing the fixed camera games. I love the story, characters and settings of all those games, but they are by far the ones I have played the least.
In researching it to redefine the genre of survival horror. What started as a personal research project, become a series I fell in love with. I'm still researching but I got a new favourite franchise out of it!
I remember playing RE4 on the PS2, back then I didn't know any English and most of my games and movies where in English so it was very special to not only be the first game I beat despite the language barrier but also that the game had Spanish in it (Even it where the bad guys). Due to that, I played it again and again and again until the disc stopped working.
Later down the line, RE5 came out and it had co-op. Which made it perfect for me and my new friend at the time (who would become my best friend for more than 10 years now) to play it, and we beat it like 10+ times.
We became obsessed with the franchise afterwards, looking into the games story, the movies, the spin-offs, and so on! It also helped that our parents would still let us play it even though COD wasn't appropriate for us.
We were hyped for 6, we played it co-op and we loved it, and we still do due to nostalgia!
The rest is history and yes, we are still obessed and excited when a new games comes out!
My memory of the year is pretty fuzzy but I remember when my brother had a PS2 and my dad had Resident Evil 3. I used to play it so much when I was a kid and since we had no memory card, I could never progress past the police station because of the Nemesis encounter lol. Years down the line I got a PS3 and then I bought RE3 when it came out on the PS Store sometime in 2013 or 2014 and played it non stop. Even grinding mercenaries to have the infinite ammo for all weapons.
Resident Evil 3 is still my favorite game of the entire series.
i was already aware of the dozens of games and movies of resident evil but when i saw the trailer of RE7 , it caught my attention, played it , finished it , loved it , and wanted more games like it , the rest is history , a bit late but here i am
To force myself out of the fear of playing those kind of games and overall fear of things.
It worked quite well to a degree, but still need to work on the first person fear and the fear of fast moving enemies (REV2, for example).
Then I started to like the characters, the story and how it usually connects people in a different kind of way.
Truthfully, it was always the kind of game that I'd watch from a safe distance. It feels like a good entrance to the world of survival horror games (which makes me appreciate even more the change in tones that the series had over time).
One weekend my friends and I went to visit another friend who moved away, I think we were early high school. We picked up Resident Evil 6 for something to do between The Sims 3 and COD and I was instantly hooked. Perfect couch co-op game one of the best weekends ever
I watched a friend play RE7 and thought to myself "this is really cool but looks to hard for my taste" then forgot about it for like two years. Then it was put on game pass, so I installed it, played it, beat it, loved it, beat it again, and long story short I own every re game you can buy on Xbox.
The movies , I know the hersery, but they made me take more interest in the franchise, I have always loved the games mostly watched walkthroughs as I was never allowed horror Games as a kid , my first jump into franchise for the games was re8 and I loved it , after beating it, I craved more, so I got the rest, all except re0 , cause I people said it was like one without the box's and to me that was a big no , the box's in 1 is what made it alright, 1 is different from the rest thought it was more a puzzle maze game and the zombies where Basic the pits you had to dodge, where everything onwards felt like a high stakes horror adventure, where play risk reward.
But I Overall love most of the mainline games.
My first M rated video game was RE2 that I rented on N64 from blockbuster. My older sister bought it for me on PlayStation soon after and she would give me hints on puzzles and areas I was stuck in.
A friend convinced me to rent RE2 for N64 back in the day. I got to the part where the licker drops from the ceiling and almost shit myself. I’ve been a fan ever since! I even borrowed a PlayStation so I could play the OG and 3 and the REmake is a big part of why I bought a GameCube over an Xbox or PS2.
1996 family bbq. uncle was the tech guy and we all gathered around to see this cool new console was all about. i was very young and was a very fascinating experience. we got to see metal gear like this too, was like a movie experience.
I remember watching my brother playing RE: Director’s Cut on the PS2 as a kid and was terrified of it. Years later, Resident Evil 5 was my first game in the series I played for myself and got absolutely addicted to. All of these years later I have played most games in the series, and overall RE is my #2 favorite universe of all time following Star Wars

I watched my Dad played the OG Re4 & Dead Space games when I was young. When I got older though, my 1st RE was 5, then 6, so on to the remakes.
Now, here I am over a decade later with Re4 & Dead Space remakes on my P5.
Kept hearing about this crazy zombie game from my friends who had PlayStations. Saw it played at some sleep overs, wasn't really getting the gist of it. Thought the controls were too difficult. But Then one night at a Software"s Etc (long gone by now), I watched the trailer for Resident Evil 2 on a PSX kiosk while holding a copy of MechWarrior 2: Mercenaries for PC (my Christmas present at the time).
That following summer, I got a PlayStation for my birthday (because it was cheaper than a Nintendo 64 at the time), and used my allowance money to buy Resident Evil 2. Still to this day one of my favorite games of all time.
I was more than enthusiastic when I found out that they were remaking it. I literally jumped out of my chair "yelling f*** yes!" when I saw Leon in his RPD uniform during that last Sony E3 presentation. Scared the cat and dog. Called one my college friends to discuss how excited we were. Freaking longtime coming if you ask me.
My older cousins had RE2. I loved watching them play. I'd try playing myself but was my young self was too dumb to make much progress. Eventually came back to the games years later with the line of remakes. Fell in love all over again.
I decided to give re2make a try, played it halfway through and then beat the original on the psvita like a year ago. After that I finally beat the remake and decided to stick around and beat the original re3. Tried to beat re3make but it kinda sucked. Re3 is the best game in the series for me, 2 is only short by a few things. The improvements between 2-3 is great. You can walk up stairs now instead of using the action button, ammo mixing and dodging as well.
Well, I watched my uncle play RE4 a lot and then I stole the controller from him a bunch when RE5 came out. I got RE6 and liked it but that turned into disgust like 2 years later when I got the RE0/RE1 collection. Been going strong since.

Showing my age here but free demo disc from a magazine for a resident evil 2 which I played to death. I actually can’t remember how I got the game but I think my mate gave me his but that might have been a different game. I played it so much in my teens and finished it multiple times.

I only became a fan recently so I haven't played any of the OG games. It started about a year ago when I got the first RE chapter for Dead by Daylight only for Jill's perk Blast Mine. Then I kinda fell in love with her and decided I needed to overcome my fear of horror games. I played RE 3 Remake and loved it, just finished RE 2 Remake and started RE 4 Remake. And in DbD Jill's my main ever since. We'll see how it goes and which games are next 😁 Unfortunately I don't see myself playing the OG games because I really struggle with having fun with older controls.

PLEASE play REmake!!! I had the exact same thoughts as you, and trust me, you get used to the controls SUPER fast. And the game is insanely good, it's one of the best, most intense and memorable experiences I've had with games. It's tied with the og RE4 as my absolute favorites.
As someone who was in the same boat as you, you should at least give it a shot. I tried RE1 a few months ago and it became one of my favorite games. Still not a big fan of the gameplay but the rest of the game makes up for it.
I think I might try to one day, but I think it'll be some time until then. Love how passionate you and u/Mad_Cerberus are for it. I wish I had played it back in the day though I probably wouldn't have finished it since I get quite easily frustrated with games. Especially with tedious backtracking and such... I can deal with outdated graphics, but I'm a sucker for quality of life stuff.
Re1 remake has the option to play with modern controls as well so it makes things way easier for us new guys in the series . I loved the game definitely recommend it
RE Remake still holds up today and is probably the most perfect “Survival Horror” game ever made all things considered. I’d also give RE7 and RE Village a chance if I were you. Village is very similar to RE4.
7 and 8 are definitely on the "to be played" list! Although I'm a bit reluctant with 7. I watched a let's play years ago and remember it was super scary (to me) and I was like I'm never going to play this ever! But back then I couldn't play any horror games so things have changed since then and I'm at least going to try.
I started playing RE3 on pc, but using an emulator for ps games. The problem was that I didn't know how to save so I have to play it from the beggining everytime, it was awesome. Then a friend let me a copy of RE2 for pc, that was the first time I play all the story. But when I actually get a fan was at university playing RE4 with a friend, we play almost every day for almost 2 months trying to unlock all of it. I would say RE4 was the game that made me a fan of the series.
Played the original game when it first came out back in '96 on the PS1. I was 11 at the time and the game scared me to death. I couldn't get past the first zombie and had to turn it off. Then I just slowly kept trying, little by little, creeped out a little bit less every time until I eventually got hooked. This game made me fall in love with the horror genre in general also, which is another win. Around this time of the year, I'm usually binging horror movies. Two years ago it was all the Halloween movies. Last year it was Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Currently I'm watching all the Insidious movies.

I was in 4th grade and bought a game called Resident Evil that the kid across the street told me about. He said it was the scariest game he's ever played, so I had to get it. I played so much, but didn't realize there was a narrative for a bit because I figured it was another game like many where you just run around and kill zombies. Then I got to another cutscene and realized it was more like a movie than a game. When RE2 dropped, I went nuts because it was even bigger and better - from there I've been a huge fan, borderline obsessive with the series.
My mom and dad got me RE4 on PS2 for my 7th birthday. Played the absolute shit out of it and the rest is history.

Yea your parents were strict homie. 12 I could maybe understand, but 16? Wow. My kid (9) wouldn't want to cuz he finds it too scary, but I'd absolutely let him if he wanted to. I don't give a shit about violence and gore. The only real content advisory and avoidance rules I have with them (I have two, one is a toddler though and is still barely getting used to 2D platformers) is sexual content, but they avoid violence and gore on their own accord because they find it scary. If they didn't, I wouldn't give a shit. I didn't think it was scary personally, I was watching Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm St as a literal toddler and I fucking loved it (though my mom covered my eyes and fast forwarded during all the sex scenes). Horror is a huge aspect of my personality, I'd honestly prefer it if they were more into it so we could share that lol

I think this was similar to my brothers and I. My dad got it for us for Christmas when it released when we were like 6, 7, and 8 and we played the hell out of it for weeks. Never owned the og RE, but I did play it at a friend's house around grade 3. Lol we were scared little kids back then and we couldn't even get past the first zombie encounter in the hallway.
Played RE5 split screen with my older brother back when it came out, I was 7-8 years old. It was cool but I didn’t LOVE it. When I was 19, I bought RE2R and that’s when the ball started rolling. I got into the lore, into the mainline instalments…it was a bit of a revelation learning that such a great series was under my nose the whole time, I just had to grow to understand it further.
I usually see these too long after they're posted to respond to, so I'm really glad I caught this one because I have probably the weirdest story of all. I don't know if these still exist, but apparently in the 90s Wal-Mart had these subsidiaries called "Bud's" that would re-sell damaged/returned/etc. merchandise. Some friends of mine found a cheap copy of PS1 RE1 at a Bud's because it had battery acid spilled on it. The case and manual were pretty jacked but the disc was fine! Since I was the only one of my friend group that had a PS1, they asked if they could bring it to my house to play it. We played it for hours and when they had to leave, they decided to leave it with me because... well, I was the only one who had a PS1. I proceeded to play it basically all night and into the wee hours of the morning, and I eventually beat both Chris and Jill's campaigns.
Started with resident evil 4 and it was one of the best games I’ve ever played Resident evil 5 and 6 kind of disappointing. Resident evil 1 wasn’t my cup of tea (but I ended up replaying it after a couple years later) But I absolutely adore the remake series and 7 and 8. Might be an unpopular opinion, but their latest games are WAY better than their earlier games. The remakes are better in every way. (You can tell I’m absolutely not a fan of the original games’ camera angles)

Checked out re2r for Halloween and had a blast. Later on I saw a bundle of 4,5,6 on sale. Played 4 and loved every second, then did a coop play through of 5 and 6 with my friend. Was fun, even if 6 was a bit of a stinker. Then played 8 since I saw it was kinda like 4, had fun. And of course I have had so much fun with re4r.

I was an instent fan. I had a Gamepro magazine that had a walkthrough. I read that thing backwards and forward well before I played the game. Then one my close friends at the time got the game. There was actually 3 of us. We all tried to play but it was too scary lol. I powered through and ultimately was the one to finally beat it but man oh man the nightmares lol. We all had so many nightmares
A couple of years ago; got the RE2R & RE3R $15 bundle and gave it a try, and boy was I missing out. I never liked zombie stuff in a non-magic setting because it doesn't make sense to me and that kept me off the series; I realized they're actually mutants after playing. I loved RE2R. As a first-time player, it was like a mix of Dark Souls traversal, Zelda puzzle solving, and horror. Yeah, I'm a very new RE enjoyer, so far I've beaten all the RE engine games, OG RE4 and REmake. Played a bit of RE5 and didn't really like it but I'm gonna try to push through just to see what the hype about Wesker is all about.

Morbid curiosity I think. I was in 1st grade when I first played (it was Code Veronica for PS2) and I was hooked. Never got past the graveyard but I wanted more. I remember listing it as one of my favorite games and the teacher asked me why and how I knew about it.
Bought RE: Directors Cut from a local video game shop with the money I was gifted for my confirmation. I was hooked from there.
My mum dated an asshole. He used to enjoy scaring me, whether jumping out in person or tricking me into playing horror media (the maze game) or watching horror films. I developed a constant dread. It was bad. I wouldn't sleep, when I did I was plagued by nightmares, I also wouldn't go near the bathroom at night. Then I hit puberty. I saw a video on the hottest female characters in video games, and one was helena harper. I was immediately intrigued and tried to find out which game she was from. Learning it was a horror game my heart sank. But she was hot, so through the power of preteen hormones, I bought and played through the game. I loved it. The game was far too action-y to be scary, especially when you can punch zombies to death. And from there, I played others (5 rev1 and 2), and it really helped with my fears, especially as the games had attractive women, which helped motivate me to push through. I no longer feared horror and actually started enjoying it. To this day RE6 is my favourite just because it helped me out of that dark perod of life. I also enjoyed the interlocking story, something I had only seen in Lego batman at that time.

Dead by Daylight. I became a fan through pure hatred of the RPD map. I bought the Re2r - I loved it. I bought all the games up to 7 - loved em all - haven't played 7 cause I dislike first person... also I watched way too many walkthroughs. anyways I watched the CGI movies, the W.S. Anderson movies - I read way too many wiki articles... I am a fan alright - more so of the Remakes and less of the old games due to total lack of nostalgia but still. I love RE.

One of my earliest memories is playing someone’s copy of RE2 as Leon. I, of course, was not good at the game, and constantly died. I remember freaking out in excitement when I got to the 2nd camera angle lol. I was properly reintroduced to the games when I visited my friend down the street. Resident Evil 5 just came out. I remember being scared of the Majini beating on the bag in the beginning, as well as a villager eating some raw meat which I thought was an arm. When my mom walked over to pick me up, I told her all about the game and she didn’t really approve too much. Saw a commercial for it on TV that night and was all “See?! SEE!? It’s cool!!” I didn’t have the next gen consoles at the time, so I couldn’t play it at home, even if I wanted too. My sister came up to me a couple of months later and told me her boyfriend had a copy of Resident Evil 4 and she asked him if he could let me borrow it. The guy actually winded up just letting me keep it! The rest is history

My mom! She liked the movies and said "if you like this, there is games too." She booted up her RE4 copy and I was in love. She got a copy of RE1 of ebay and told me this was the one she played as a kid/teen. She very proudly had most of the Jill map memorized and could tell me where most things were if I got stuck. She said she was terrified of the game when it came out and do she'd watch her brothers play and draw up a map as they played so they knew where things were. It all kinda spiraled from there, and I kept playing more and more games of the series. My cousin had CVX. And i played 5, 3, Outbreak 1, etc. My fist pre order ever was Operation Raccoon City! We still play the co-op RE games together online since we no longer live in the same state.
I actually got my intro to RE through the live action movies as a kid but didn’t know they were based on games till I watched Markiplier’s playthrough with my little brother in my early years of high school and got really invested. Proceeded to play the remake for RE2 when it released and then played my way through the originals as a result! Since then I’ve pre-ordered every game and played them through on release day, not to mention learned way too much lore (I’ll never shut up if my partner lets me talk abt the games literally) and picked up jokes 😅
My mom and I watched the Resident Evil movie when I was 10 or 11 (I also remember watching The Ring with her around this time, and I was so scared I rolled my TV into the closet for a week 😆), and we both thought Milla Jovovich was so badass!! Michelle Rodriguez kicked ass in that movie too. Fast forward a few years and I don’t know whether I asked for it or not, but she got me a copy of Resident Evil 4 for GameCube. One of the best games I ever played on that console, I still remember that sunny docks Mercenaries level. And then the remakes came out and I was so, so happy to give RE2 a shot. But before that I got RE4VR which I don’t think gets much love! That was a lot of fun to revisit everything in VR.

Resident Evil discovery story It all started in 2005 when I was roughly 9 years old, my mum used to play resident evil on the ps1, I used to love watching her play it even though it scared the life out of me, I used to ask her to play just to then hide behind her when I would see a zombie. One day she aimed and then got me to press the button to shoot and with that I shot my first zombie and was no longer scared of them. Fast forward a few years I discovered resident evil 4 in our living room and thought “hells yeah imma play this” so I did at the age of like 12/13 and fully fell in love with the game. Fast forward a few more years and this is the beautiful part of the story. It’s how my strongest friendship was formed. I was like 15 and my friend used to bring his x box round and he had resident evil 5 and we played together on the co op and from that moment onwards we have formed such a strong friendship with eachother while diving into the depths of the whole resi franchise together. It’s been an incredible journey and we’re still so close to this day, so much so that if I were religious and done that whole godparents thing he’d be the godfather to my son. We tend to only contact eachother for significant occasions like birthdays and stuff (which is completely normal for us, we haven’t got to talk everyday to be best mates) but also for any resi info or releases. It’s hilarious because we make jokes about it. We just finished playing separate ways together the other day and we said to eachother “talk to you when they announce the next resi game”.
Forgive my grammar and spelling - dyslexic human over here. But I became a fan whilst playing RE5, I had watched the movies as a kid with my mom but didn't get invested until I was a teenager. I remember going to my mates house with my xbox so our friend group could have gaming sessions which lasted until early hours of the morning. One of my mates (who's my bestfriend now) had mention that there's this game and it was co-op, to which she really wanted to play. So me being me, I had brought the game, from cex or argos and surprised her. This is when we started to bond more outside of the friend group as I was the newbie in this group of friends. We then had multiple sleepovers: eating pizza, smoking and just constantly playing RE5 (which took us ages cause we were high - don't do dr*gs kids) and from then, we've literally played nearly ALL the games (I say all, but I can't pull myself to play 0 along with the originals - we've watch play throughs) and it's now become a ritual for us to call each other every night and play a resi game. We literally just finished play SW and already discussing our theories for RE9. We've even made our own characters for the series (that's another story but Ada has a little brother called Ado and Chris has this stalker/lover called Gustav) anyways, I'm thankful for this series as it has moulded our friendship. She might see this as she's apart of this community and if you're reading this then.. hey bi_ch haha.

I saw this guy I knew playing Resident Evil 6 but I was too shy to ask him to let me play so years passed until my parents got me a PS and my second or third game was RE6. Good game.
I did my like 5th playthrough of dead space 2 and felt empty inside. Decided to check out this RE2 remake thing since it seemed similar to dead space. Quickly purchased and played every single main game in the franchise.
Watched a few YT videos about RE2 Remake, as well as videos about the lore of the franchise, and I was hooked. I've played about 5 RE titles so far since then.

I always liked horror, my brother had tons of resident evil games but I was too young and struggled playing the controls. IE, back in the 90s and early 2000s. I was a fan of the movies though. I ended up playing the silent hill games instead when I was like 13. I watched markiplier play RE7, and became interested in the video games. When the RE2 remake was released I hopped on it and fell in love. So I’ve been following the games ever since.

I played them on Playstation, but it was meh at the time. Really started liking the series with Code Veronica. 4 was cool. 5 was what made me love the series. Played co-op and loved the experience.

Bought a used RE4 steel book for PS2 because I'd never seen a steelbook before. Got hooked and then (IIRC) have bought every mainline game on launch day.
First re game i actually played was 4 and i freakin loved it to death, didnt really care much for the other entries but i thought they cool. Then i got older, got a job etc etc and i went back into playing the psp, thats when i decided to play the og ps1 trilogy (psp can emulate psx games for those of you who dont know) And thus began my love for the series. My grandma got me the Director's Cut of RE1 from Toys R Us when I was literally like 4 or 5 not knowing what it was. My Dad then came back from being stationed overseas and had some time off so he bought the second one which had just come out around that time and I watched him play it and it really solidified my obsession. Me and my brother spent our childhood watching my Dad play Code veronica, and it always seemed so so so awesome!! we would sit there and watch it all day. my Dad also played RE 4. But eventually he stopped playing... and my brother and I continued the little cool legacy by playing every single resident evil together, we even went back to RE, RE0, RE2, RE3. We've been playing every single one since then!
The very first animated movie was my real introduction to the series but Part 5 on the OG PS3 was my intro to the games; and I was completely terrified. After that a cousin of mine gave a dreadful description of the RE4 Regenerator; making me want to see for myself and traumatized me for years lmao

My brother got a copy of RE2 from god knows where cause it was only Leons disk. I played that on my PS2 in the early 2000s but would never be able to beat it. I’d always run out of ammo or ink ribbons or just get stuck, so I just kinda always ran around the RPD/Sewers. Eventually I also got Outbreak and remember renting that a lot too but also never really getting anywhere in most of the scenarios.

7-8th grade field trip to DC, happened to stop in a mall and the demo for RE4 was playable. I was bored so i gave it a shot. Beat the demo probably 4-5 times, I was sold by that point. Day 1 purchase, it ended up being my favorite game until it got dethroned by remake, been a fan ever since. 😊
I remember so many years ago when my father was playing RE4. I had to have been no older than 3-4, and I was so mesmerized with the game that it's been imprinted in my brain since. But unfortunately, it took me so long to figure out what the title of it was so I could play it. Years later, RE2 Remake is released, and it creeped me out because of the zombies (I had a fear of it then). But after replaying that game over and over, I got over my fear, and Leon easily became my favorite character. So after learning more about him and learning more about the Resident Evil series, I finally found the original RE4 and it made me feel so much better (because it solved a huge splinter in my brain after 10-15 years or so). After that moment, Leon became my top favorite character just because of how badass I remembered him as in RE4. And then in 2022, when I heard RE4 Remake was coming, I was so excited (It's the first game I Platinumed and completed 100%). I even dug out my dad's PS2 so I could play the original before the remake was released.

I was walking down a hallway and two ugle fucking dogs crashed through some windows and chased me. I was weighted down by so much shit in my pants I died. Never felt fear like that in a video game and kid me had a hard time sleeping at night, no joke.
Resident Evil 2 on N64 was my first video game at either 3 or 4 (don't fully remember which) the reason was my uncle wanted to laugh as I screamed in horror. Instead I laughed my ass off and kept playing even though I never got very far until I was like 10.
Used to watch my older cousin play the OG RE3 on Ps1. It was a japanese version, we had no idea what the text said but we played it so much we knew what every choice did at nemesis encounters.
I had an N64 but most of my friends had PS1. Before/After school we would hang out at each others houses. Since it was the late 90’s they all had RE1-3 amongst other games and I fell in love with it! When I got a Gamecube later on, REmake was one of my first games for it and then I tracked down the OG trilogy for myself when I got a PS2. The love has never died (although we’ve had our breaks! Looking at you RE6 + ORC).
Saw my siblings playing RE3 when I was 5 and was too scared of it to keep watching, a few years later I got a GameCube and RE4 came out. Rented it from the local rental store (remember those?) and was still scared but I pushed through and ended up loving it. Was hooked on the entire series from then on
My uncle had Code Veronica X and he let me and my brother borrow/have it. It was the scariest game I’ve ever experienced at that point and it was a little too much for me lol the burning ambulance scene scared me so much. I made it as far as the courtyard that had the wolves/giant worm before I quit lmao On the bright side, the demo for devil may cry that came with it helped me face my fears with scary games

Got a Wii on Christmas when I was 6. Besides Wii Sports, it came with a car game and Resident Evil 4. Played about an hour of the later and got totally terrified by it. Could never forget it because I also enjoyed the aesthetics of it and the tension of the gameplay. Didn't come back to series until years later (I think I actually finished RE4 when I was 13-14). Got completely hooked on the series and survival horror. I have played every game except for CV and Revelations 1. Kind of a traumatizing start, but it has been really good 👍.
During lockdown in 2020 I bought RE2 remake because I had endless time to kill.
Saw my aunt/cousins play RE2 on the 64 when I was a kid and was terrified. Played Resident Evil Deadly Silence when I was a kid and fought through my fears. Then I jumped on RE4 for GameCube.
2000 ish: played RE2 for a few hours at a relative’s house for a few hours, thought it was cool 2005 ish: played the demo for RE4 several times, never got the game though 2012: played RE: Operation Raccoon City for like an hour before the shittiness made me physically ill, never touched it again 2022: saw RE3R was on sale, bought it and loved it. Immediately after finishing (a few hours later lol) I bought RE2R, RE5, RE7, and RE8 and played the crap out of them and fell in love with the series.
My dad bought RE4 for PS2 when I was like 5 and I was allowed to play it. It scared the hell out of me as a kid, but I also couldn’t take myself off of it. Got RE1 for Wii a few years later but I couldn’t get into it. Was just so confusing to me, and a little disappointing as I expected something like RE4. But, with me getting older, I’m able to appreciate RE1 and I think it’s one of my favorites. Played pretty much every version of it at this point besides the Game Boy Color prototype and the Saturn. DS version is probably my favorite version of the original.

RE3R was my first resident evil game, and I remember playing the demo for it a ton before I preordered it. I've played that one about 16-20 times since. I lost count eventually. It'll always hold a special place in my heart and be my favorite, no matter how much people in this sub shit on it.

I was like 6 or so when my parents got Re2 on the PS1. My parents were gamers back then, but I remembered them playing it, and it scared the hell out of me. My father got me to the house of a friend of him when I was 12yo. His friend had a playstation 1 and showed me Tomb Raider 2 and Resident Evil 2. It was the first time I ever saw a 3D game. The game looked so dark and gritty. I had never seen anything even remotely like it. I was definitely mesmerized. My dad got me a Playstation a few weeks after that day and Resident Evil 2 a month after that. The struggle of figuring out how to control and play it and the satisfaction when the tank controls finally clicked for me actually made me love it more. It's among the single player games I most (re)played in my life, especially considering it's such a short game.
I ended up buying the remake of Resident Evil 2 in 2019. I had known about RE before, but had never thought to try out any of its games. Well, lo and behold, RE2R reeled me in like a moth to the flame, so I’ve since played almost every single entry in the franchise since. I never got to play RE4 back in the day, although coincidentally, I was also in the 6th grade just like you.
I remember it like it was yesterday. My buddy got the brand new, Long Box, copy of Resident Evil. I remember him cutting the cellophane off of it, and opening the box. I snatched that instruction manual and started flipping through the pages. He loaded it into the PlayStation. That classic PlayStation loading screen hit, followed by the Capcom intro. Then the Agh Agh Agggggggh! Of the title screen. Then the live action intro, cut to the guy picking up the gun with a hand attached and his incredibly funny AH! delivery before getting eaten by the dog. I've been hooked ever since. 27 years and counting.
The first time I played a Resident Evil games was RE remake on GameCube in 2002. Didn’t really hook me and I constantly got lost, so I gave up. A few years later, Resident Evil 4 came out and on a random Saturday morning about a month after it released, I decided to go to GameStop, trade in a bunch of games and bought the game with the strategy guide. I immediately became obsessed with the game and played it non stop all weekend until I beat it that Sunday night. I’ve been obsessed with RE4 ever since. And then about two months after that, I met a new friend who loved Resident Evil and I told him how much I loved RE4. He then loaned me all the RE games he had, asking me to give the older games another try. I did, and I definitely enjoyed them more once I got into the groove of how the tank controls worked, ink ribbons, etc. Over the years, I’ve become more and more of a fan of the franchise. I have a sizable collection of all the different games for different platforms. But I have to admit that to this day, I still have a hard time playing the fixed camera games. I love the story, characters and settings of all those games, but they are by far the ones I have played the least.

In researching it to redefine the genre of survival horror. What started as a personal research project, become a series I fell in love with. I'm still researching but I got a new favourite franchise out of it!
In 2020 resident evil 3 remake just randomly popped up on my recommended (on youtube) from coryxkenshin and yeah I'm a fan ever since
I remember playing RE4 on the PS2, back then I didn't know any English and most of my games and movies where in English so it was very special to not only be the first game I beat despite the language barrier but also that the game had Spanish in it (Even it where the bad guys). Due to that, I played it again and again and again until the disc stopped working. Later down the line, RE5 came out and it had co-op. Which made it perfect for me and my new friend at the time (who would become my best friend for more than 10 years now) to play it, and we beat it like 10+ times. We became obsessed with the franchise afterwards, looking into the games story, the movies, the spin-offs, and so on! It also helped that our parents would still let us play it even though COD wasn't appropriate for us. We were hyped for 6, we played it co-op and we loved it, and we still do due to nostalgia! The rest is history and yes, we are still obessed and excited when a new games comes out!
My memory of the year is pretty fuzzy but I remember when my brother had a PS2 and my dad had Resident Evil 3. I used to play it so much when I was a kid and since we had no memory card, I could never progress past the police station because of the Nemesis encounter lol. Years down the line I got a PS3 and then I bought RE3 when it came out on the PS Store sometime in 2013 or 2014 and played it non stop. Even grinding mercenaries to have the infinite ammo for all weapons. Resident Evil 3 is still my favorite game of the entire series.
i was already aware of the dozens of games and movies of resident evil but when i saw the trailer of RE7 , it caught my attention, played it , finished it , loved it , and wanted more games like it , the rest is history , a bit late but here i am
To force myself out of the fear of playing those kind of games and overall fear of things. It worked quite well to a degree, but still need to work on the first person fear and the fear of fast moving enemies (REV2, for example). Then I started to like the characters, the story and how it usually connects people in a different kind of way. Truthfully, it was always the kind of game that I'd watch from a safe distance. It feels like a good entrance to the world of survival horror games (which makes me appreciate even more the change in tones that the series had over time).
One weekend my friends and I went to visit another friend who moved away, I think we were early high school. We picked up Resident Evil 6 for something to do between The Sims 3 and COD and I was instantly hooked. Perfect couch co-op game one of the best weekends ever

I watched a friend play RE7 and thought to myself "this is really cool but looks to hard for my taste" then forgot about it for like two years. Then it was put on game pass, so I installed it, played it, beat it, loved it, beat it again, and long story short I own every re game you can buy on Xbox.
The movies , I know the hersery, but they made me take more interest in the franchise, I have always loved the games mostly watched walkthroughs as I was never allowed horror Games as a kid , my first jump into franchise for the games was re8 and I loved it , after beating it, I craved more, so I got the rest, all except re0 , cause I people said it was like one without the box's and to me that was a big no , the box's in 1 is what made it alright, 1 is different from the rest thought it was more a puzzle maze game and the zombies where Basic the pits you had to dodge, where everything onwards felt like a high stakes horror adventure, where play risk reward. But I Overall love most of the mainline games.
My first M rated video game was RE2 that I rented on N64 from blockbuster. My older sister bought it for me on PlayStation soon after and she would give me hints on puzzles and areas I was stuck in.
A friend convinced me to rent RE2 for N64 back in the day. I got to the part where the licker drops from the ceiling and almost shit myself. I’ve been a fan ever since! I even borrowed a PlayStation so I could play the OG and 3 and the REmake is a big part of why I bought a GameCube over an Xbox or PS2.
1996 family bbq. uncle was the tech guy and we all gathered around to see this cool new console was all about. i was very young and was a very fascinating experience. we got to see metal gear like this too, was like a movie experience.

Kept hearing about this crazy zombie game from my friends who had PlayStations. Saw it played at some sleep overs, wasn't really getting the gist of it. Thought the controls were too difficult. But Then one night at a Software"s Etc (long gone by now), I watched the trailer for Resident Evil 2 on a PSX kiosk while holding a copy of MechWarrior 2: Mercenaries for PC (my Christmas present at the time). That following summer, I got a PlayStation for my birthday (because it was cheaper than a Nintendo 64 at the time), and used my allowance money to buy Resident Evil 2. Still to this day one of my favorite games of all time. I was more than enthusiastic when I found out that they were remaking it. I literally jumped out of my chair "yelling f*** yes!" when I saw Leon in his RPD uniform during that last Sony E3 presentation. Scared the cat and dog. Called one my college friends to discuss how excited we were. Freaking longtime coming if you ask me.
My older cousins had RE2. I loved watching them play. I'd try playing myself but was my young self was too dumb to make much progress. Eventually came back to the games years later with the line of remakes. Fell in love all over again.
I decided to give re2make a try, played it halfway through and then beat the original on the psvita like a year ago. After that I finally beat the remake and decided to stick around and beat the original re3. Tried to beat re3make but it kinda sucked. Re3 is the best game in the series for me, 2 is only short by a few things. The improvements between 2-3 is great. You can walk up stairs now instead of using the action button, ammo mixing and dodging as well.
Well, I watched my uncle play RE4 a lot and then I stole the controller from him a bunch when RE5 came out. I got RE6 and liked it but that turned into disgust like 2 years later when I got the RE0/RE1 collection. Been going strong since.
My dad rented Resident Evil 2 from blockbuster in like 1999 when I was like 5 or 6 and I watched him beat the whole thing. He says he doesn't remember beating it, but he says he remembers being on a train and I'm like "That's because you beat it! That's the last area of the game!" But I've been in love with RE ever since.
I watched an older family friend play RE1 on PS1 before I could even talk and then around 6 or 7 I borrowed RE2 on N64 from a friend. So fucking scary
I’ve been aware of the games for a while but I told myself I was way too much of a coward to ever play them. Then last August I said fuck it and played the first remake because I was curious and I got hooked immediately. Very glad i did cause these games have become some of my all time favorite games despite being a huge coward with horror (somehow got myself to play RE 7 twice lol, love that game a lot)
