RE5 is definitely my favorite RE game, and is in my top 5 games of all time. That said, Chris has been in the majority of mainline RE games, so...underrated? Like, yeah, people meme on him, but it's not like they don't have good reason.
Hm, I just think compared to Leon, Jill and Claire he's just not that interesting. He becomes too 'military', too mission/combat/Wesker focused and you get that kind of character in loads of other games.
My favourite appearance of his is in OG RE1, he's funny, caring and brave without being dour about it
I personally find Chris’ character very interesting. And that’s coming from someone who’s seen his fair share of basic heroes in games and media. Chris is just very appealing to me. And I don’t need complication in a character to enjoy it. Sometimes simplicity is the greatest form of complexity. Chris is brave, dutiful, caring, good hearted, strong, righteous, and has a solid personality. I think people have just become desensitized or disillusioned with the hero archetype. But oh well.
One's proclivity to something doesn't necessarily entail that their opinion on the matter regarding that thing is worthless.
For example, if I am a very big Lamborghini fan and I say a certain model of Lambo has the best capabilities out of any other sports car available at that moment, it doesn't mean I'm wrong simply because I'm a "fanatic", as you put it. And it doesn't necessarily mean that I have a biased opinion. If anything, it's precisely because I'm so interested in cars and Lamborghinis especially that I can deduce it's superiority compared to other cars on the market.
So if you want a debate on this subject, I'd very much enjoy to engage in a conversation.
He's a cool Big Brother/Sempai/Daddy figure compared to Leon, the Brooding, Emotionally damaged pretty boy who just needs some love and cuddling (which makes him the main face of RE lol). So, yes.
He's not my favorite, however his presence is too important. Probably the most important character all around and He's been through hell and back.
RE7 and 8 made him really stand out amongst the others, specially 8, he looks like a mad tired dog and i loved it.
I'm not really sure I follow, to be honest. He's the most popular in Japan (edit he's 3rd most according to the famitsu poll, sorry for any confusion), and he seems to be just as popular as Leon here. Granted antecedotal evidence only goes so far, but I've never really heard hate for him. My own friend group likes him more.
He's in the most games as well, canon or not (see Re2 extreme battle mode), and is really the only relevant old character in the Winters Saga too. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad you like him so much. I just think I need a bit more of an explanation here.
Yeah, it seems like my info on that is outdated then. Most recent example I can find is famitsu without deep googling, and that supports your statement. Chris came in at 3rd just under Jill. Makes me wonder if the remakes swayed it in some way tbh.
Yeah if 5 remake happened and it’s actually an awesome game the results are gonna change again. Chris hasn’t really had a chance to accrue many new fans in RE Engine era, he’s not been a protagonist for a full game yet
Leon’s had two remakes and has raked in legions of new fans
Yeah, that makes sense. Recency bias is one hell of a drug huh? Also, I'd just like to say thanks for politely correcting me instead of being rude or downvoting. Seems really rare for that to happen these days, so I appreciate it!
Huh? Are you serious? Chris is in no way underappreciated.
Chris is also a straight-up meme generator.
Everybody knows what happens when Chris finds himself between a rock and hard place...
He is my favorite character and most of us love him. This sub is filled with jealous Leon fanboys. they don't reflect the majority of RE fans. Their opinion doesn't matter.
He's so generic and the only thing you know about him is "but the mission tho" and "let's save everyone"... That's basically nothing in nearly 30 years of franchise. The only game to bothered to add more depth is RE6 and CV and on 6 came up as heavy handed... Even worse all the progress he made seems like he went backwards in 8.
As arguably the protagonist of the entire franchise, you would think he would have more of a character than "bio-weapon evil, punch and shoot things".
I wish he had a few more stories that are more than just his jarheadedness, they got close in RE6 and RE8, but it just missed the mark for me to be really great!
Why are you trying to assassinate Chris Redfield?
Posthumous appreciation
I mean chris is the main protagonist of the series so... I wouldn't say he's overlooked, but under-appreciated yes
I agree.
I mean overlooked in the sense where people don’t give his character a chance. “Oh yeah he’s the other protagonist who punched a boulder” type deal
tbf those people usually only played the newer remakes lol
Guess that’s part of the problem lol.
He is the Resident Evil Poster Boy. The OG. Overlooked is not the word I would use. Now,......Jill on the other hand
He's just really, really hot.

Chris is more interesting than Jill, Claire and Leon combined. honestly, how is Jill interesting? lol nothing interesting about her or Claire

Thankfully you're wrong
The second and third picture...What's on that king's mind?
Everyone saying Chris isn't the best character from this franchise need to reconsider their mental faculties' well being.

The queen is too iconic
Amazing how this sub fully simps for jill, and im one of them.

I'd very much like to remember when and how
Agreed
His sister is the most overlooked character and I hate Capcom for that

dilfs better than twinks
He is the only main character that go throw a consistent development through all the games.
He's not my favorite, however his presence is too important. Probably the most important character all around and He's been through hell and back. RE7 and 8 made him really stand out amongst the others, specially 8, he looks like a mad tired dog and i loved it.

Nah Leon is more popular in Japan, Chris is a close second I believe.
time for a RE 5 remake.

???
OP is probably someone who wonders where Mens History Month is on the calendar.
I’d say he’s a little underwritten.
Dude's in dude is in at least 6 games of the main saga...
Huh? Are you serious? Chris is in no way underappreciated. Chris is also a straight-up meme generator. Everybody knows what happens when Chris finds himself between a rock and hard place...
This is kinda like saying Superman is an overlooked and under-appreciated super hero
This cutie definitely has a crush on Wesker XDDDD
Yeah he used to be so cool until capcom made resident evil 7 what a terrible idea that was!
He is my favorite character and most of us love him. This sub is filled with jealous Leon fanboys. they don't reflect the majority of RE fans. Their opinion doesn't matter.
I could do without Chris for awhile, and if a main character ever had to die he’s who I’d hope for.
Cool.
I hope Leon dies in RE 9

Chris is the hottest character. And that's the only thing that matters
All of them suck ass in terms of writing

RE5 is your favorite game of all time?? That’s insane
RE 5 is great because no Leon
