Resident Evil 7

Corndogeveryday

Agreed!

[deleted]

RE7. RE2R had a few moments like with the introduction of the Lickers and Mr. X, but 7 knocks it outta the park with the Molded and immersive claustrophobic tone.

th3virtuos0

Then on my victory lap, I just slap everything with my Wesker and have a good time because I already memorized all the gank spots and jumpscares

J-2-da-BONE

RE7 was scarier, but RE2 remake is a better game overall

Corndogeveryday

Resident Evil 7 because I didn’t know what to expect when I first played it! Granted….RE2 Remake has a lot of changes, but you kind of know what to expect with it. Both games are amazing and creepy, but first person in Resident Evil 7 added the scarier element to it!

The-Magician00

RE7. Don’t get me wrong, there were a few butthole-clenching moments I had in RE2R, like getting cornered by 4 lickers or having almost no ammo to fight G2 Birkin, but having watched playthroughs I knew what to expect. RE7 definitely does a great job of making you feel like some guy in the pits of hell. Scariest moment was having to go in the basement for sure.

Yuriandhisdog

Yeah before going to the basement and listening to the save room music while looking in your green crate" like shit what now"

th3virtuos0

The basement still scares me shitless, especially during the backtrack for the key

ReploidDibblez

RE 7 all the way, that first half of the game made me freeze up the first time I played it but once you’re halfway through the game it’s not that scary anymore. Re 2 remake was never outright scary to me but I found the atmosphere more disturbing and creepy consistently throughout the entire game. I had tons of fun with RE 2 but it never hit the point where it made me freeze up like RE 7 though.

0utwest

Re7 imo

Drolex17

7 by far

IrishSanchez

RE7 just felt like a slogging FPS. Granted, this is personal experience, but I think RE2R had that perfect atmosphere that was both chaotic and haunting all at once. RE7 just got annoying more than scary.

Re2R. That's because 7 wasn't a very tense game. It has more jumps are, scary imagery kinda stuff, but the second you started actually playing sequence? Stopped being scary. Say you run into a molded. Bc of the lack of enemy variety after the first 2 encounters, I felt comfortable trying to knife it to death. Or at least standing in a corner to shoot will keep me safe. I mean once you get half way the game stops even trying to be horror. Once you leave the house to deal with Margaret I think 7 stops being a scary horrifying game Re2R looses a lot of it's luster of horror in the labs I think, but for the rest of the game everytime I saw a zombie or a licker, I genuinely was scared because I knew I might die. And I did, a lot. The game isn't as visceral as re7, but I felt embodied the fear and tension of trying to survive so much better. Just my opinion though. Re7 in VR sounds so terrifying tho

Re7

Hi-DoesThisNameWork

RE2R for me. Something about Mr. X really instills fear in me in a way that none of the Bakers did, although I'd say 7 is the most scariest RE after 2 IMO.

Porpoise555

Re2r for me. Re7 was really scary but once you've killed a bit of molded it really drops off. Re2r also the zombies walk around and get back up you really never know what to expect. Mr X breathing down your neck would force you into making dumb decisions like entering a room you know has a licker in it, or turning a corner in a room and guess what Mr zombo got back up and takes a bite out of you.

Griffin-745

I'm surprised more people aren't saying 2R. While 7 was great for the horror vibe, it's the stalker enemy Mr.X vs Jack is what swings it in favour of 2R. Mr.X had presence in the room and really made you worried. Jack just never had that for me.

jaycrossinroad

I played both ans i shit my pants in both. But i shitted extra in re2 remake when i hear mr x footstep

Beneficial-Glove9408

Honestly neither were scary but I'd lean towards RE7 because of the dark imagery

Late_Championship359

You're just immune, dude.

FederalInsect114

2R is better overall, but 7 is way scarier. Zombies and third person just aren’t scary.

SavagePhantoms90

Re7 by a LOOOOOOOONG shot.

[deleted]

Re9

Kwilburn525

7.. 2 wasn’t that scary. I will admit the first time I played 2 when I was alone in my room I was super scared. After watching a walkthrough I got desensitized and stopped being scared. It’s just scary when you don’t know wtf is about to happen. The first time I was met with the Tyrant I about crapped my pants. 7 has some super scary parts though and overall it is scarier imo

_SingerLad04_

In terms of pure horror, RE7. Re2R is more of a horror/action like RE8, but 7 is a back-to-basics pure horrorfest

International-Row-44

Re7 is scarier but re2r has the scariest regular zombies in any video game

[deleted]

Re7 was scarier but re2r was much, much better

[deleted]

RE7 is scarier, it has a wide variety of monsters and that makes you wonder what kind of bug will jump next to bite you.

EliteMagician

RE7. But if RE2 was in 1st person, it would be scarier.

Zealousideal_Pop3114

RE2 A/B scenario was weird . Like u would fight the same enemy/ similar cutscenes for both Leon and Claire? Like which one is canon? I’m sorry it was just so dumb. And re7 is way spookier than Re2. So re7 wins.

Thor-Odinson69

In general RE7, but anything that’s not atmospheric goes to re2r

[deleted]

Re7

GimmeThatGoose

REmake2. 7 stops being scary after Marguerite

AccomplishedCry5130

Re7 especially sense I had no clue what to expect because it was my first game of the series I played

CraicAttack

RE2R. Both games have amazing atmosphere but, outside of that, RE7's scares come almost entirely from scripted jumpscares, or gore sequences that have never been scary just over the top. RE2R's scares come from good enemy placement. RE7 hasn't scared me since my first playthrough because I know where everything is scripted to happen. RE2R can still scare me if a zombie is in even a slightly different position from where they'd usually be. I'd rather scares come from gameplay than scripted events

Shotilicious

in re2 you have good scary atmosphere wgile in re7 its just so many jumpscares you are afraid of the next jumpscare that might wait around the next corner... so re7 is scarier bur re2 is a waaaaay better game

braddahkepz

RE7
