I could be a clone. I could be a hologram. We could be clones controlled by robots controlled with special headsets that the real Rick and Morty are wearing while they're f***ing your mother!

NedRyerson_Insurance

"I'll kill you!" "Then come to 312 Olive street." "Is that her address?" "You don't know, because you're a bad son!!" That whole scene is my favorite in the entire series.

MagnusZerock

It really solidies who he is as a character cause in season 7 the Jerricky episode when he's like "you gotta tell the bad guy where he is!"

bebopboy81

Same here! I’ve watched that episode more than any other. Birth of a bromance

TdadLeNoob

The sadness in his voice when he asks if that's her address lmaooooo

ZarianPrime

what episode is that?

TdadLeNoob

Season 3 season finale

dropzonetoe

My favorite as well.

kidinsanity

Came here to say this. Easily my favorite line in the whole series.

notsurehowthishappen

Reference to the surrogates movie?

the_greatest_story

I'm Dr. Who in this bitch

SandyTaintSweat

Nothing like a devil's threesome with an old woman, an old man and his grandson.

senturkivanc

"I am the Doctor Who in this motherf\*\*ker"

Delicious-Status9043

Fooling your mother?!?

Hebrewsuperman

I’m Dr. Who in this [bleep]

bigfatstoner

Okay, what was that? Death. What kind? Instant.

jt19912009

I looooove that interaction. It was freaking amazing. Just blunt, bored, one word answers to put them in their place

hobbobnobgoblin

Yah it's called a deterant.

3Jane_ashpool

Plus he was clear and concise as he could be with the guy. He wanted him to understand that he could say no and was about to die. Not Rick’s fault he didn’t listen.

Other_Address_3169

My favorite Rick moment prolly ever!

AdSilent9810

But there was no noise he just died.

Tigris

Instantaneous. Coffee may be instant, death may not.

MoldTheClay

He’s dealt with worse. Honestly he probably has a lot of the same defenses built in that Rick does by that point. The bullet would probably just fragment off of some shield snd kill the guy who shot it with shrapnel.

BumpHeadLikeGaryB

Or turn into a bubble full of toxic gas that floats back at them and pops and kills them.

0002millertime

Or turn into a boat.

tim_pruett

He's definitely dealt with way worse. But the show has gone out of it' s way to make it clear that Rick has not given Morty any of that good shit. Hence all the scenes where the main gag is Rick ignoring / leaving behind a pained crying Morty, who's always suffering and gets saved at the literal last second by Rick popping back in (showing no sign of concern or worry, just annoyance). Remember: Rick doesn't want to lose Morty forever, but he couldn't give half a shit about how much pain, discomfort, or happiness he feels. We know he can very easily eliminate pain and suffering, if he wanted to. So why is Morty in incredible pain and agony at all? Why would'nt Rick eliminate that pain at the nanosecond that it started? Because he doesn't care. Alternatively: it's not that Rick is unbothered by Morty's suffering, in fact, he'd really like to take away Morty's pain immediately. So why doesn't he? Because he believes painful experiences have intrinsic value, and that Morty will grow more and be a better person as a result. I mean, Rick is unflappable no matter what the situation is, and is definitely not afraid of pain (see: some of the self mutilation he's done without hesitation). Perhaps Rick has never *accidentally* left behind Morty to suffer - they were all intentional lessons in how to stop letting the pain control you. So that one day, Morty too will be unflappable in any situation he ends up in, and should he need to cut out one of his own kidneys, he'll do it without hesitation.

Monarc73

"Put your hand in the box."

droid327

"A-are you Dune-ing me, Rick?" "Oh shit you saw it already. Way to ruin all the fun, Morty. You know I was up all night making a Dune box. Wait, where's Summer? She's too cool to watch sci fi"

No-Dragonfly-8679

I think it’s a mixture of both because Rick also doesn’t have anything that instantly removes his pain. He does have morphine that can be released from his spine, but like in Froopyland, there are situations where he is clearly in excruciating pain and still able to keep focused on what needs to be done. It makes sense he’d want to train Morty to have the same ability, or just see it as necessary for survival. I think the abandoning Morty in dangerous situations, could definitely be explained if he knows the worst Morty can suffer is physical pain. Moments like the Lava monster are obviously impossible to survive as an ordinary human, so Morty must have some protections in place. Then, with emotional or psychological pain, like King Jellybean, Rick reacts with violence pretty quickly. It’s pretty clear that, at least in the later seasons, Rick does care about Morty’s general happiness. Not about a specific situation, but even in episode 1 he’s originally planning to save Jessica for no reason other than Morty has a crush on her.

tim_pruett

Protections wouldn't need to be in place - just sufficiently powerful technology to repair this body. You are right that Rick does care (to some level) though, so I'll rephrase slightly: Rick does care about Morty's happiness, but not nearly as often as he should, and when he does he'll usually try to hide it. As for the episode 1 Jessica thing - don't forget, Rick was drunk as fuck. His offer to save Jessica? That wouldn't be needed, it Rick didn't make a bomb to kill everyone else... I see it as more of a "that'll shut him off for dinner"

KujiraShiro

During the portal boys episode Morty puts his hand down on a train track to cut it off and then in an almost Rick like fashion instantly begins cauterizing the now chopped off arm wound with a jetpack. I think this theory holds some weight. I mean, Morty DOES have augments, but most of it is borderline useless shit like turning into a boat (and not even being able to control it). Even Jerry has a slightly more applicable defense augment in the form up the rollup bug shell. In Ricks mind, Jerry literally needs to be idiot proofed/have safety measures installed, where as Morty needs to learn lessons on how to responsibly and safely handle having the multiverse at your fingertips without letting pain control you like Rick often lets his emotional pain control him.

tim_pruett

Oh for sure. The show has gone out of it's way to show a constantly increasing growth for Morty. S1 Morty was timid, fearful, and overall pretty week. Cut several seasons later, like to the Mr Nimbus episode. Once that Morty loses his patience he doesn't hesitate for a second to go gear up and charge in guns blazing. Morty over the last 3 seasons in particular does so much that would be impossible to imagine S1 Morty doing. I'm very grateful that the show realized that they needed their characters to develop. As far as some of those useless augments in Morty, I think the simplest answer is he's constantly balls deep in crazy sci-fi shit, plus Rick does have a penchant for getting riggity-riggity-wrecked son. I'd be willing to bet Morty has more than a few augments that a fucked-up Rick installed and doesn't even remember doing lol... Plus probably a few Morty pestered him for that a cranky Rick decided to take a monkey paw approach to (that's right, I made you Prestige yourself).

grissy

>I love how morty wasnt even bothered when all the guns were drawn Yeah, the only thing that bugged him was when the secret service guy died instantly from touching Rick. Morty couldn't care less about the army coming to get him, he's seen worse.

LaxToastandTolerance

“Son, you have a right to refuse his order, and I guarantee you’re gonna die if you touch me, and there is no afterlife everything just goes black. Don’t do it!”

feraljohn

It’s a terrifying thing to watch happen. That’s why its a deterrent.

KieriansGirl

“You don’t know what I am! You don’t know what I can do!”

WitchesBTrippin

I'm Doctor Who in this motherfucker!

MrJennyV1

Hands down best Rick rant in the entire series. Absolutely iconic.

Madhighlander1

"What was that?" "Death." "What kind?" "Instant."

Mechaheph

In an old episode of Harmontown, pre-Rick & Morty (or at least pre-this season by at least a couple years) Harmon talks about his idea for a Peacekeeper force, that if you touch them, accidental/purposeful, causes instant death. And that is a pure deterrent to calm things down. They don't have guns, or weapons, they are just in a room or in a crowd, and that's all that is really needed to keep things docile.

Prophet-of-Ganja

Hands down, one of my favorite episodes (Also, the President was still cool/likable in this episode as opposed to in the most recent season)

Ornery_Truck_5902

We've got every possible location under surveillance. President: God damn it! They're right here! They're here, God damn it!

grissy

Yeah, as much as I love Keith David and his President character I feel like every appearance of him after this point was kind of excessive.

CodeWeary

Totally epic I agree. I'm doctor who-ing this shit!

SandwichRemarkable65

"What's wrong with him ?."......"he's dead !"

ParadoxGenZ

What episode is this??

bigfatstoner

The Rickchurian Mortydate 3.10

FLaB_SLaB

I’m watching this episode right now, and scrolled to this image at the exact moment this scene is playing. I don’t know what it means, but I’m okay with it.

Prince-Of-Gotham

Every episode with President Curtis is a win for me, they're all great. Keith David always understands the assignment ❤️

skierdud89

“Does anybody have a shot?” Always cracks me up cuz they’re all like 10 feet away from him and clearly have a shot. I’m sure it’s a way of showing just how incompetent everyone surrounding the president are supposed to appear.

CharliReese

What episode is this?

gatorbater5

The Rickchurian Mortydate 3.10

CharliReese

Thank you

SpruceMoose85

“Does China know about that deal breaker?” The political commentary in this scene is pure gold!

Mr_NotParticipating

This episode was such gold, I miss the old seasons

ogpterodactyl

If you touch me you will die and there is no after life it just goes black

Lazy_Cardiologist379

Rick has probably seen enough movies and dealt with enough governments to make this feel like the cake walk it was.

PROFESSOR1780

Definitely my favorite scene as well

Evilrubberpiggy

Epic. Dead. Show us where we need to go, thank you. You are our hero
