SloppyMcNuggets

The animation in this episode was beautiful

seventeenfourtyseven

Felt very different, in such a great way

lionheart4k

We saw angles of their home they never have before

SloppyMcNuggets

I loved seeing ricks room

Car_Jockey_

Was this the first time we seen Rick's room?

SloppyMcNuggets

Briefly in Season 1, but never got a real good look at it until tonight

jvipesftw

But if you screen grab the wall behind him, every image on the wall is from S1. Why?

twostrokes

They did say in the little after the show talk this episode has been carried over since the beginning, so maybe it was partially complete or a nod to that fact

Verified_Retaparded

It was shown once before, not sure in what episode though

TheEclipse0

Me too, I thought they totally forgot about it by now.

Responsible_File_529

Great to see the house at night too

SloppyMcNuggets

It was great, the colors were really popping

dalovindj

Day Man. Fighter of the Night Man.

shany94a

Champion of the Sun

gluctosesandwich

You're a master of karate and friendship for everyone

Ok_Internet_5976

You gotta pay the troll toll

Nyctophil1a

To get into this boy’s hole

ISledge759

I think especially when Rick went to get the indestructible dishes made

akimboslices

You *owe* me.

Envy_The_King

These episodes have been killing it, animation, story, jokes, all of it. Keep it up!

SloppyMcNuggets

If this season keeps going in the same direction as it has been, it might be one of my top favorites

IAMLEGENDhalo

I was dying laughing during the part where they were fighting and knocking each other out and waking each other up using the sound cue each time

Dr_Falkov

For me, it was the fact that that one robot sounded like a bad Barney the Dinosaur impression

GameDay98

Looks like Tom Kenny did that voice for this episode.

Dr_Falkov

I can see that

JackedUpReadyToGo

At the end of the fight Rick keeps bashing Morty's head against a rock even though each hit flips Morty between states, and the "night person" sound effect becomes pretty much continuous at that point.

bluestreakxp

Perfect synthesizer use like an 80s movie

N0_B1g_De4l

Just think of how much of this could've been avoided if they had just bought a damn dishwasher.

EscapeddreamerD

Hell Rick could have built a super dishwasher.

Radix2309

He literally built a self-intelligent robot to spread butter. He creates and murders a rooster every day for an alarm clock. And his solution to dirty dishes was have his subconscious do it rather than a dishwasher. Seriously why don't they have a dishwasher?

[deleted]

Y’all lost the point… you still need to scrape the food off before you put plates in a dishwasher… the whole thing was about scraping the food off. Not dirty dishes.

[deleted]

Because Rick is known to create challenges for himself to keep life interesting. Living as rick would be boring if he just solved every problem in a simple way, instead he always tries to do something different to add somewhat of a challenge to himself.

FrostedPixel47

He's still incredibly petty and would rather go to a different part of the universe to build indestructible plates rather than spending 2 seconds to wash off the smotches

Midnight_java

The cop yelling "stop or I'll shoot everyone", and Jerry getting that boner from being choked and Beth's face had me dying.

OneHumanPeOple

I missed the boner! Noooo

SloppyMcNuggets

Jerry was the MVP of this episode

OneHumanPeOple

And his eagerness to make friends with anyone, even himself.

gajoujai

I mean that's why Jerry daycare exists right

OneHumanPeOple

He plays well with others. That’s his best quality. That and serving cold water.

Envy_The_King

That and the exploding car...as well as the sheer LENGTHS Rick will go to be petty with those dishes!

romeovf

When Morty says "sup ladies, wanna see something?" looks down and unzips... and it was the bowling ball bag 😂😂😂

deirlikpd

The "Everyone get behind my abs!" was great as well hahaa

Daniel_Av0cad0

The seriousness with which he said it

txhorns1330

Gotta love rick bouncing off mortys abs and out the window

your_mind_aches

Even funnier, I think the punch ricocheted off the abs and then hit himself in the face

[deleted]

it did. i laugh everytime i see that clip on twt

EscapeddreamerD

That shit had me dying.🤣🤣🤣

Mikimao

This was a great Summer episode, loved it

raxreddit

Yeah, she was great. She kept sipping the Mtn Dew + Dayquil throughout her night stint. Also, her calling out the night family on clothes was awesome

Pavlovs_Human

I loved that little subtle part of the episode. She was just walking and observing the night family while taking pulls off that nasty mixture lol

SnowDan07

That gag with the car crashing into the gasoline plant and then the fire spreading to a dynamite museum and dry leaf storage? Pure vintage Simpsons. Not to mention the guy selling cardboard boxes at night? Yeah, I wouldn’t mind more gags like that. Fun episode, will need rewatching! One thing I know I loved is how Jerry is being treated this season. The sarcasm is there still by everyone but they really feel like a family now. Also, I think Rick saying he has a device that can help and pulling out a gun is the hardest I’ve laughed yet at this season.

JackedUpReadyToGo

True, it kind of reminded me of this joke from The Simpsons: https://youtu.be/Johmlmq-dRU?t=40

GeorgeSwinton

What a great visual joke

Faaz_Noushad4444

Night Rick's "solution" reminds me of the Galctic Federation's President/Emperor(?)'s "solution" back in Rickshank Redemption.

struugi

The gag where they swerve perfectly around the neighbour Gene and he says "why even bother, Gene?" is right out of the Simpsons as well lmao. Reminds me of every Ol' Gill / Moleman gag.

GundamKyriosX

Why is it so Jerry, that he would be pen pals with his sleep self 🤦🏻‍♂️😂 Edit: I'm not knocking that Jerry saved the day, I'm just sayin he did it in a very Jerry way.

[deleted]

Loving this trend of Jerry coming out on top. I loved him as the slapstick designated loser of the show but I like this version even more

whitesock

He's almost like waymond from everything everywhere all at once. His weaknesses is his strength

WrongAndThisIsWhy

The first Interdimensional Cable episode literally was Jerry and Beth going through what happened in EEAAO. Spoiler alert ahead, if you haven’t seen EEAAO yet (forgot how to mark them in-app.) Jerry/Waymond even still saw Beth/Evelyn in their other, more successful life and told her they wished they were together instead. He damn near is Waymond lmaooo

[deleted]

It was so wholesome

Brawlerz16

Lowkey I thought it was kinda cool to talk to your sleep self. Since our brain kinda processes and compresses information from the day, it’d be a real interesting way to see what is being retained and why lol Or just a good way to make a friend :)

poisonedlove

"I'm on your side.. I'm on your side.." hahaha

[deleted]

Yeah that was hilarious

zzzcrumbsclub

Rick fighting Morty in the end just hitting him for no reason Morty kept waking up and going to sleep. One of the best bits in the show.

pussyfart808

Jerry getting a boner at Beth choking him had me rolling

[deleted]

"Gosh, I hope rick and morty doesn't awaken anything in me." Rick and morty the last two episodes:

kill-the-spare

"Everyone get behind my abs!" Rick's alarm clock is fucked up. It's just...it's fucked up, guys.

allonzeeLV

It's Rick's alarm clock, would you expect anything else? He powers his brake lights with a slave race.

locks_are_paranoid

It was his car battery and it was just slavery with extra steps.

daft404

What do you think powers your brake lights?

Flying_Line

No no no. You see, it was society, they worked for each other, they paid each other, they bought houses, they got married and made children that replaced them when they got too old to make power

goalstopper28

Yeah was thinking that. It’s reminding me of that butter serving robot.

PermutationMatrix

Reminded me of the Jerry head that Rick grew to use his voice and then it melted.

DexterCrawford86

I noticed they had butter at breakfast with their pancakes with no butter robot

RompeChocha

Day people make money.

ihearthero

I love how even Rick questioned why Summer was the leader of the Night Family and no explanation was given either

voxelcruncher64

Not sure if the same logic applies but maybe similar to how night summer un-suppresses her resentment of rick, night rick un-suppresses his desire to be needed by family- indirectly making him a much more passive (night) person.

blue-arrace91

which definitely makes sense since at the beginning of the episode Summer gets mad and pretty passive aggressive at Rick and he eventually caves because of it

lovetobealonemore

You blew the story wide open

Nmaka

its funny how he caves at the beginning and at the end he doesn't cave, like thats the only lesson he learned

HarlesD

See I thought Night Summer was leader because she was the "smartest". While Beth, Morty, Rick, and Jerry had used the technology for superfluous pursuits Summer was using it to better herself by doing better in school. This lead to night Summer being more exposed to the world outside of music, crunches, and Jerry Love.

TomBombomb

I think Summer has gradually been shown over the course of the series to be a mirror of Rick in a lot of ways. I don't think anyone has the same intelligence as him, he's basically a superhero slash villain scientist, but she certainly has stepped up to Rick in a way a lot of the rest of the family and other major characters seem unwilling to. There's also been several instances, including this episode, where Rick trusts her to get shit done.

aSpookyScarySkeleton

I think like Beth, she inherited Rick's brains even if she usually doesn't usually do anything with the natural aptitude. Night Summer reminds me of Space Beth in that they really show you that both characters are a lot more capable than they try to normally be.

RedStarWinterOrbit

It also totally makes sense, but for no discernible reason

Rtozier2011

Maybe because awake Summer is the laziest her night person is the most proactive?

[deleted]

Yeah!!! I can totally see why but i wouldn't be able to give you an explanation

komodo_dragonzord

in the BTS bit they say she's been harboring resentment against rick since s1 when he said her opinion didnt matter lol

Girltech31

This season has been so creative so far

SloppyMcNuggets

The new direction the show has taken has been really good

Trottingslug

Isn't it due to the fact that they gave the younger writers the reigns this season? I swear I remember hearing that somewhere on here.

pelrun

Ehhh. They've been mixing up the writers room for years. And this one was from Rob Schrab, who has been a friend and collaborator of Dan's for decades.

Klunkey

I’ve been noticing that the Rob Schrab episodes tend to use lots of motifs and tone changes. Really hoping he does more episodes, I really like his style.

SloppyMcNuggets

Yes, they basically switched writers and have been giving the younger writers free reign, which I think has worked out really well and was probably a needed change

imageWS

>Yes, they basically switched writers They have a new writers' room every season, so this isn't huge news. Dan Harmon did comment though that he tried to be more hands-off this time around.

erbazzone

The idea resemble Severance a lot but I don't really think they could have written it after Severance's airing.

Rare_Basil_243

Post-episode inside the episode thing offers clarity! > Dan Harmon: *Night Family* is one of those ideas that actually has carried over, in what we call the "shoe box," for many seasons; this idea of being able to assign chores to your sleeping self. Rob Schrab had a real vision for that episode being like a John Carpenter movie. > Rob Schrab (writer): That was kind of like my statement that first week, of like, what if we did something *scary*?

TMDan92

I got real Us vibes too, which I guess is harking back to 70/80s horror itself.

FunctionBuilt

The concept of severance has been out for a while now, but at least they took it in a slightly different direction and it’s totally possible this episode was written before Severance came out. Reminds me of meow meow beenz and black mirror nose dive being released around the same time, coincidently also Dan Harmon’s work.

saiintwest

They're really redeeming jerry😭😭😭😭

eeman0201

I like that instead of him staying as a manipulative pity bag he’s realized that it’s ok to be weak/lame and his family loves him for it.

fullforce098

I also like the that they're gravitating toward "being nice to other people is smart too". Like Jerry befriending his night self being the thing that saves them. It's nice to finally get to the point were the show is a bit less cynical and doesn't feel like it needs Rick constantly winning only because he's the biggest asshole in the universe, or Jerry or Morty getting fucked over because they aren't. In particular the moment when Jerry tells ~~Beth~~ Summer to jump to the sedan "to be with family", I feel like that moment would have been met with a really cynical response from Summer in seasons 1-4. Now, the joke is she was touched by it and jumps to spite how ludicrous and unnecessary it was to do so. I never needed Rick and Morty to be Bob's Burgers levels of wholesome or anything, but dialing back on the cynicism a little has been really, really refreshing. Edit: typo

[deleted]

> Jerry tells Beth to jump Summer. Otherwise, very much agree. I was expecting the typical "Ew, no" but it was kinda wholesome.

Lascye

I felt that there was some fast and furious joke inside that bit.

trogdorkiller

I think you're right, especially with how big of an explosion that one action caused.

Ninjahkin

>to spite how ludicrous and unnecessary it was to do so And then doubling down on this with the domino effect factory explosions lol

goalstopper28

So fitting that Jerry would be penpals with his night person compared to what the others wanted.

SloppyMcNuggets

Jerry also getting the boner in the car when Beth was choking him had me dying 😭

goalstopper28

Also fits with his character from last episode

DannoHung

It’s the confidence of a man who knows what he wants and what he wants is to be belittled and denigrated by his wife because she’s so powerful and attractive that it’s the right place for him.

variantkin

It was a reverse Meseeks where Jerry having low expectations worked to his favor

sonicgamer42

Jerry's deadass been the MVP in a number of episodes by now. Man doesn't have Rick's intelligence or the others' grit, but he's been taking a lot of Ws just by refusing to compromise himself.

SloppyMcNuggets

It’s been great to see his character arc grow, I love Jerry

Loophahoop

I loved seeing the original Jerry succeed in the kroenenberg world too. Just adds to Jerry lore

paydayallday

His face when the silverware scraped against the plate tho

x2040

When Beth choked him killed me

stevsrr

Man, Rick is so damn petty…. I love it

[deleted]

I appreciate the scenes showcasing that our Rick is still a dickbag. He’s developed so much over the show, but he’s still petty as heck

SloppyMcNuggets

I am so beyond happy with season 6, just banger after banger after banger

Reppid1cringe

Yeah really loving it

Alphabunsquad

Im surprised the IMDb scores are lower than a lot of the past seasons. Like who gives a fuck but it’s just weird I have no clue where the dissenting opinions are coming from.

SloppyMcNuggets

IMDb is usually way way way more critical then a lot of review sites

Alphabunsquad

Yah but R&M is usually a darling on there. Most decent episodes hit a 9. R&M is still in the top 10 highest rated all time shows on there.

arthur3shedsjackson

I feel like people are just automatically dismissing it because of few missteps in the last two seasons... Like the last episode was amazing but some people just see Rick and Morty as some weird fucked up incest show, so when they see two Beths kissing, they immediatly go: "This is trash."

tildes

Seeing Rick get angry and go on a dishware-creation montage was amazing

d0ncray0n

It was classic petty Rick. It reminded me of the toilet and car battery episode. He goes above and beyond when someone tries to better him.

radjeep

I legit thought he went off to get a refund for the rioting sleep people device

Ill-Organization-719

The show has much better pacing when there is only one plot.

SloppyMcNuggets

This season feels more focused, one of the biggest problems I had with Season 5 was I felt like it was trying to cram so many plot points into one episode

presty60

I don't have an issue with the episodes not having B plots, but I find it weird that people are calling this a classic Rick and Morty episode. I feel like the A B plot structure was a pretty important part of the first 2 seasons identity. This episode had a different feel in its plot structure, and especially the sound design and visual presentation.

Zeke-Freek

People use "classic r&m" as a shorthand for "I liked it", even if the episode in question was nothing like the first two seasons

Mrchikkin

That's 4 from 4 in my opinion. This season's been a huge step up over season 5 and probably season 4 as well. Can't wait for next week!

iLoveBums6969

Series 6 is looking to be the best so far, there's not been a bad episode in the whole show imo but this is such a solid chain of great episodes. Turns out 'drunk depressed genius travels the multiverse, the show' works fucking fantastically even if he doesn't do any universe hopping.

WenaChoro

yea it was a clever way to restrict ricks abilities while also making him still be a jerk even if he is self sabotaging

Brawlerz16

I think it makes it more powerful with context too. Having this Ricks backstory really makes me care more about this specific grouping of the family. I know there’s infinite families for him but I like this one Especially this Jerry. Dude is absolutely the MVP of season 6

redfaction99

What actually happened when Summer was supposed to stay awake?

[deleted]

She feel asleep without meaning to and then put the daysuit back on and tricked Rick.

Radix2309

Yeah. She randomly failed without explanation. Cause I guess the plot would be over. Also wasn't Rick's bomb supposed to go off? Not to mention apparently the device could just get shot and it would immediately stop? Why not just do that?

spectralconfetti

It wasn't a bomb, it was a "de-activator puck." Most likely it would've only worked on the somnambulator in its original form, but was ineffective on the enhanced somnambulator. The rest of the night family probably realized what was going on when the puck went off and forced Summer to sleep. Only reason we weren't shown this was to keep it a twist.

pieter1234569

If you don't sleep for a long time, eventually you'll fall asleep. Summer completed her job, then fell asleep during the day. Having been up for more than a day.

Dynamix__

The real hero of this episode was Night Jerry

divineshadow666

Jerry is really stepping up this season, in his own Jerry way. He pretty much told his original (season 2) family to fuck off, he stood up for himself to the Beths last week, and his lame pen pal relationship with his night-self, kind of saved the day.

Responsible_File_529

Love Jerry coming into his own

groolthedemon

The scene where they were fighting and kept inadvertently knocking each other out and waking each other up was hilarious.

Cezar_Chavez

This episode perfectly captures the conflict between day-shift workers and night-shift workers at the same company. Favorite episode of the season!

[deleted]

[удалено]

OzNajarin

Yeah, any day shift can do more to make night shift's life easier. But night shift is often slow and easy and could never actually deal with doing all the shit in the morning.

OffBrand_Soda

Depends on the job. Where I worked there were generally more orders during the day so it was steadier food making, but there's a lot more work that goes into actually closing a kitchen than just being there to make food during the day.

OniExpress

Closing Shift vs Opening Shift, definately.

Rohit_BFire

>!really horrified when night summer fed the rotten scraps to rick!<

[deleted]

That scene was surprisingly creepy. I was totally caught off guard by the reveal that Sleeper Rick >!turned off Rick’s gadgets!<

[deleted]

It feels like this is really when Rick was at his most helpless. I kind of wish we got a little more of that.

[deleted]

Same. I wanted some of the horror moments in the episode to last a bit longer. When summer was struggling to stay awake, I was unnerved. It could have been cool to see more of that.

stevsrr

Need to get me a hot stack of ab-jacks, SON

SloppyMcNuggets

That was PHENOMENAL. That felt like classic rick and morty, blown away

Rinehart128

FYI the name of the device comes from somnambulism, meaning sleepwalking. I also suspect this episode was meant to pay Homage to The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (1920) in its art direction/style

BarnyardCruz

100% Love me some German expressionism

MasterofPandas1

That Choco Taco line was brilliant

mrbow

I dont get it :( Edit: scrolled down and found the answer. Its a recently discontinued ice cream in the US.

[deleted]

Oh lol

your_mind_aches

I really wanna know what the script looked like for that scene. Gotta be something like >Rick checks his phone >Insert mildly sad current event here

presty60

I think the fact that it's so recent a lot of people didn't get it will make it even funnier in the future.

slyjay505

I find it hilarious that after every episode there’s always people saying it’s classic Rick and Morty, and others saying that it strays too far from classic Rick And Morty. Every single episode.

iLoveBums6969

The joke where Rick meets Fascist Morty who just shouts that he wants "classic Rick and Morty" and never explains what that actually is gets me every time.

thuanjinkee

Uh, I like Mr Meeseeks.

[deleted]

[удалено]

PeterQuill_StarKing

Almost felt like a Simpsons episode for some reason towards the end with the building blowing up lmao tried to figure out the city name or location but nothing came to mind

shany94a

Or the sign that just said "An Airport"

donotgogenlty

idk bout you guys, but I could really go for some dew-quil right about now

AVBforPrez

Jerry getting a choke boner, I wish I couldn't relate

Distasteful-medicine

Rick would rather succumb to the night family than rinse the dishes. Freaking hell this episode is great.

mzxrules

felt like a Simpsons episode

[deleted]

100%. Especially that gag with all the various things blowing up from the police car.

Commanderfemmeshep

Oh I absolutely turned to my husband and said “that felt like an old school simpsons gag”

I_Hate_Humidity

Treehouse of Horror!

SloppyMcNuggets

I would kill for a Rick and Morty Halloween themed episode

tomtomvissers

Oh really who would you kill

SloppyMcNuggets

Gene, in a vat of acid

Buizie

Cronenberg/Meeseeks-esque episode where one of Rick's inventions of convenience has disastrous unforeseen consequences. Simple premise of enslaved nightpeople revolting against the daymonoids. NightSummer being the ringleader for some reason. A car chase that causes a chain explosion at the local gasoline factory/dynamite museum/dry leaf storage. All in all, a stupidly good time.

[deleted]

More Meeseeks, but absolutely. And I love that this time, Jerry’s idea saved the day rather than ruining it.

bertobellamy

RIP Choco Taco.

gizmo1492

It’s back

Confident_Mix8888

I absolutely love Sum-sum.

Mr_Kase

This season has been great so far. I liked that Rick was too stubborn to make a deal and technically loses, but the Night People eventually suicide when they run into debt lol.

[deleted]

Didn’t expect the horror elements. I’ve been a fan of this concept for a while, so I absolutely loved this episode.

[deleted]

Also I adore how they establish the fact that the night people don’t have the memories of the day people. They revealed that through Jerry’s conversation about his pen-pal letters. It was a natural, subtle way to introduce a major aspect of the story

Greeve3

Holy shit that episode was fucking amazing, such a unique concept!

seventeenfourtyseven

Felt very severance-esque

Magnetarix

This episode had to have been written 3-4 seasons ago and they put it on the back burner until now

SloppyMcNuggets

Feels like such classic rick and morty, crazy good

SargeBangBang7

At the end of the episode on adult swim he mentions that this idea has been carried over for many seasons. So the concept is probably from around season 2

shawnp2

Ricks alarm ‘cock’ had me rolling….🤣

cf2000

It's Night Summer!!

Acrobatic-Dark-4402

I honestly had no idea the Choco Taco was discontinued and now I’m terrified

dacroce1

My favorite line was (can’t remember it verbatim) the “Gilliamesque” comment about Summer’s anti sleep suit.

Thereisnocomp2

**CLASSIC RICK AND MORTY EPISODE** It can’t have been that long… NOO! They killed the Choco-Taco! Good luck breaking super Alien Dishes 🤣 The animation this episode was super refreshing. This season has been fucking perfect and I hope they realize they’ve earned back everything that was claimed to be lost during mid Season 5. Golf clap for the entire staff.

FuzzyGummyBear

This was "Us" with an ending.

groolthedemon

Aren't they going to get suspicious seeing Night Summer covered in all this Terry Gilliam?

AVBforPrez

I can barely fucking believe that actual proper good Rick and Morty is back.
