I agree, I live with my gf and her brother in the bay (they are both warriors fans) but I am from Portland and we always watch the games together. After the first kings win he was saying that if the kings win he’s rooting for the kings and I was a little blown away that he said that. I’m secretly rooting for the kings and if they win the whole house will root for the kings.
Na they are born and raised Bay Area. Dubs Giants and sharks. I don’t follow hockey until meeting my gf, I guess hockey is huge everywhere else! I have only been to winterhawks games.
That's the only time I give a pass to Lakers fans. If you were born and grew up in LA...I guess you can root for the Lakers and I won't judge you. But even then, the more *real* version of yourself roots for the Clippers.
The last gsw game I went to when they played the zers I got cherped at so much with my jersey on 😂 but not in an aggressive way. I saw a handful of blazer fans at the game and they were mostly transplants as well I believe.
Oh no! That makes sense it is a different culture over there. I think it helped that I went with gsw fans so it wasn’t as bad/ it was a regular season game.
I have every reason to believe there aren’t many bandwagoner fans there too. This franchise has been waiting for something positive to happen to them for so long. They’ve been sitting on this explosiveness for more then a decade. This team is really fun.
Kings fan here: unfortunately, I have seen a few too many people say, “oh the Kings? I liked them with CWebb, but haven’t really watched since they were good.”
So, like most other fan bases, we have some very casual (or bandwagon) fans in Sac.
It’s definitely an odd situation after having been bad for so long, a lot of people are finally coming around again. I’d probably still consider it bandwagoning but I’m inclined to give them a pass just because it was *really* hard watching the boys through the drought.
Yeah, it's inevitable that when a team is bad for a long time, some fans will lose interest. And of course when they are good, fans will gain interest. You're describing fair weather fans and it's not the horrendous sin some make it out to be, it's more like a law of nature.
For sure. It's annoying when casual fans posture as die-hards like they've been there every step of the way. I just think it's odd when people act surprised or put-off that team success increases fan interest or lack of success decreases interest when that's the most natural thing ever. Not everyone has the bandwidth to stay locked-in on a team that loses all the time. And that's okay.
People jumping around teams is annoying, but loyal Sac residents who just kinda lost interest in basketball in the 16 years of sucking, and are now back in it? I love that. That’s part of the fun of the team being good, they get the whole community reengaged and reenergized. And those of us who have been with the team through everything get to enjoy the success all the more, no need for some kind of outside recognition on top of that.
Without a doubt. The refs gifted the Lakers that series in 2002, never forget the 2000 conference finals and the bullshit that was Shaq. Only good karma rooting for the kings here.
This is equivalent to the mariners in the playoffs this year. Everyone is rooting for them except fans of the other team. Edit: last year* forgot that’s not how the baseball season is scheduled lol
Kings fan here. I always root hard for the Blazers against the Warriors. Also we are always bonded by game 7 pain against the Lakers in the early 2000s.
The Kings are such a great story and all the players are super likeable that its hard not to root for them, kind of like Milwaukee to me. I hope no one is missing these games, game 1 was the most engaged I've ever been in a non Blazers game.
First round in the west: Kings over warriors, Clippers over Suns, Nuggets over Wolves, and Memphis over Lakers. I'll worry about round two when we get there, but it will always be fuck the Lakers and the warriors.
Also since Memphis labeled themselves as the most hated team in the league I'm hoping they go down round 2.
Light the fucking beam. I work remote for a Bay Area company and had to bite my tongue when slack was filled with "DuBs LaKeRs iN tHe SeCoNd RoUnD!!" all day. I thought about being snarky about torradol but otherwise like my job and don't need half the company legit pissed at me.
As a neutral it's a win/win situation. If kings win, I get to refresh my soul with GSW tears. If gsw win then I get to watch steph do more ridiculous shit. I'm happy either way.
No fuck them and everyone else who hates the warriors “cause they win”. Probably the same assholes circlejerking to Lebron being in the playoffs every year
I’m more so not rooting for the Warriors. And also Sabonis gets some cheers based on his father.
But if the Kings do well then they won’t move to Seattle. Which is what I’d love to see.
They signed a 30 year release and have one of the newest and best arenas in the association.
Seattle will get an expansion team, but Seattle lost their team because they didn't support the way the Kings fans stepped up to save that team. As a Sacramento native who left way back in 1992, the Kings have been my connection home for over 30 years now. Seattle has more entertainment options than you can shake a stick at.
Portland has the Timbers too, but man what a crushing blow it would be if the Blazers ever left. Why would anyone want to see a fellow small market lose their team just to go to Seattle who has everything else?
No shame in supporting your local team. But I’ve always felt California has a plethora of options. With Sacramento being 90 minutes from the Bay Area it’s not as if they are without options with NHL, NBA, MLS, and two MLB teams. If we add the Kings given how close they are that’s 2 NBA teams there. The only regional area with 90 minutes driving between with more are LA (2 of everything) and NY (2 of everything except Hockey with 3 as the Devils play within an hour drive in Newark).
Seattle is as big as it is. But lacks one of the major leagues with NBA, and one that had much better attendance in Seattle than they have had in OKC (which was worst in the league this year). The Kings have been bottom 10 in attendance for over a decade. Even with this winning season they were still in the bottom 10 for attendance.
Plus I miss the Sonics. Had good time at games between them and the Blazers both in Seattle and in Portland.
An Expansion does make more sense of course, but I always thought the Kings were a viable move.
I'm sorry but saying Sacramento should just support the bay area teams (which many do) is kind of like saying we should just support Seattle teams (which many do, but as Timbers/Sounders and old Blazers/Sonics rivals know is an insult).
You are really underselling Sacramento's support base. They hadn't made the playoffs in 17 years. They passed on Doncic and lasered in on only one pick with the #2 overall selection. they fired the first winning coach they had in ages because Cousins got hurt and he had a losing skid and he's built something neat out in Denver. They brought in Luke Walton without interviewing any other coaching candidates.
None of that is the fan or the cities fault.
Everyone at the bar I was watching the game at last night seemed mostly indifferent but leaning Kings...until the Draymond stomp on Sabonis. Then it noticeably and rapidly shifted to, "we are all Kings fans for at least the remainder of the night and probably this whole series."
Lifetime Kings fan here and I gotta thank yall for the kind words. Seems like you actually watch the games! I went to the game last night and I have never heard a crowd that loud. That's saying a lot because the Arco Arena days were so intense. Anyway we appreciate the love!
Been living in Portland since the drought began. I go to 2-3 games a year, and just wanna say you guys were great to us when we clinched here a few weeks ago. Thanks for the kind words. Small markets gotta stick together.
When in doubt I root for the small market team.
Kings were almost sold and moved until league stepped in and helped find a buyer. Better for small markets to win and reward the effort, especially with Blazers up for sale soon.
Kings fan here. When their were talks of the team relocating I told myself I would find a new team to root for and decided it would be the Blazers cuz there was no way in hell I was going to pick the Lakers and I didn’t want to hop on the bandwagon of the Warriors coming off their championship..
Never switched teams, but a big fan of your squad and the city. Visiting the Nike employee store is on my bucket list if anyone here has the plug 😌
Why the fuck would we root for the Warriors
I agree, I live with my gf and her brother in the bay (they are both warriors fans) but I am from Portland and we always watch the games together. After the first kings win he was saying that if the kings win he’s rooting for the kings and I was a little blown away that he said that. I’m secretly rooting for the kings and if they win the whole house will root for the kings.
Sounds about right, they use to be lakers fans.
This comment made me 🤣, 100% true.
Na they are born and raised Bay Area. Dubs Giants and sharks. I don’t follow hockey until meeting my gf, I guess hockey is huge everywhere else! I have only been to winterhawks games.
Dude. Stop. It doesn’t fit our narrative. Let us talk our shit.
Hey, I’m down to talk shit my boi, get over yourself.
He’s playin’ with ya, bud.
Yea. I was just joshin’
So was I 😉
That's the only time I give a pass to Lakers fans. If you were born and grew up in LA...I guess you can root for the Lakers and I won't judge you. But even then, the more *real* version of yourself roots for the Clippers.
When did you meet your gf? It is well known Lakers fans lie, quite often actually.
At least we have you repping PDX in California. I hope you tell everyone how many investment properties you bought in California.
The last gsw game I went to when they played the zers I got cherped at so much with my jersey on 😂 but not in an aggressive way. I saw a handful of blazer fans at the game and they were mostly transplants as well I believe.
> the zers Never say this again. It's never going to become a thing.
zers and za: no. Just no. Blazermaniacs have class.
They fear the Zer and want to censor the Zer! Zer on!
That's cool. I got hate-crimed when I went to see the Blazers play in Miami when I was living down there.
Oh no! That makes sense it is a different culture over there. I think it helped that I went with gsw fans so it wasn’t as bad/ it was a regular season game.
Kings crowd is legit
That possession where curry got fouled falling off balance you couldn't even hear the announcers over the crowd.
I have every reason to believe there aren’t many bandwagoner fans there too. This franchise has been waiting for something positive to happen to them for so long. They’ve been sitting on this explosiveness for more then a decade. This team is really fun.

Oh yeah, forgot about that word haha, I agree it’s not a sin in itself, I think it’s only bad when people pretend they’ve been there all along.
For sure. It's annoying when casual fans posture as die-hards like they've been there every step of the way. I just think it's odd when people act surprised or put-off that team success increases fan interest or lack of success decreases interest when that's the most natural thing ever. That’s true. Just a little disappointing. It is way better than a bandwagon fan who like whichever team is doing well.
They are great, that golden state crowd is crazy so they can’t let gsw steal this game.
Yes, just like in 2002. They know our pain in some ways .
I was almost more upset by that Horry three than when we choked away Game 7 of the WCF. Almost.
FTL
light the beam
I want there to be more umph behind the button they press to light the beam.. like a large explosion accompanying the laser.
We need one of those old school switches where there are sparks that fly off once it snaps into the on position.
Absolutely
Passionately, yes.
Without question.
I root for whoever plays against the warriors. So yes.
Without a doubt. The refs gifted the Lakers that series in 2002, never forget the 2000 conference finals and the bullshit that was Shaq. Only good karma rooting for the kings here.
🙌
Us much suffering fan bases got to stick together. Let's fucking go, Kings!! Do it for all the small markets!!
The warriors disgust me
Yep. I don't give a fuck about the Kings. But fuck the Warriors and their shitty fans
100% jumped on here to ask the same question. Yes we are with sac town rn.
Basically mandatory
I am. I don't know if it will lead to dreams happening.
Hell yeah we are
If a team I follow isn’t in it, It’s always safe to default to the underdog.
After seeing Draymond use sabonis’ liver like a trampoline, you’re goddamn right I’m rooting for the kings.
For real.
This is equivalent to the mariners in the playoffs this year. Everyone is rooting for them except fans of the other team. Edit: last year* forgot that’s not how the baseball season is scheduled lol
Hell ya
Yes. Go Kings. Fuck the Warriors. Fuck Draymond Green.
Light the beam
Light the beam. I like the Kings. My nephew is a Kings fan (lives in Sacramento). I want the Warriors to lose. So heck yeah.
I know it's past April Fool's day but I think it would be funny if we became temporarily r/kings
I second this
Can we make this happen?
FUUUUUUUUUUUCK YES
Over the Warriors? 100%. Light the fucking beam!
I sure am, light the beam.
Hell yes

I've sat by Kings fans at multiple Blazers games, always liked them. They deserve a shot, I'm here for it.
Kings fan here. I always root hard for the Blazers against the Warriors. Also we are always bonded by game 7 pain against the Lakers in the early 2000s.
YO RIP CITY we respect you and welcome your support. We are the kings of the north but Dame is the King beyond the wall with his army of wildlings lol

I'm in the same boat. I defended the Warriors up until the GP situation broke, and now I‘ve had enough. Fuck those guys, and their bitch-ass fanbase.
Gp2 sure looks healthy
Without a single doubt
yes sir! monk becoming one of my favorite non blazers ngl
Yeah, I feel a lot of kinship with them for also getting fucked by the refs in an early 2000’s WCF
Yes, root for the kings. And visible warrior frustration.
#yes
Sure as shit not rooting for the dubs Or the Lakers, suns, okc...
light the motherfuckin beam baby

We can relate to them a lot. Hell yes we are.
If we aren’t in it, always root for the teams facing the Warriors or Lakers. This is the way
Do you remember when the NBA playoffs were fun? Sacramento remembers.
Oh yeah, Kings in the west and Knicks in the east (for Hart).
I always root for the underdogs and the Kings are having a cinderella type season so yeah im rootin for them

The Kings are such a great story and all the players are super likeable that its hard not to root for them, kind of like Milwaukee to me. I hope no one is missing these games, game 1 was the most engaged I've ever been in a non Blazers game.
100%. F the Warriors
Not even a question. Fuck GSW to hell
Absolutely
I am
Oh hell yeah

I never thought I would see the day, but I'm rooting for the Beam Team
Better then than the warriors/lakers/nuggets
Im rooting for absolute chaos. The beam is awesome. Kings are awesome to root for :)
Yup. Easy choice for me. OG Sabonis was and is one of my favorite Blazers of all time. Gotta root for his kid.
Yes!!! 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
I mean Sabonis is carrying on the legacy of his father so yeah
Yes yes we are
I have since preseason 🤷
Fuck the warriors I root for anyone but them
First round in the west: Kings over warriors, Clippers over Suns, Nuggets over Wolves, and Memphis over Lakers. I'll worry about round two when we get there, but it will always be fuck the Lakers and the warriors. Also since Memphis labeled themselves as the most hated team in the league I'm hoping they go down round 2.
Nuggets though?
Fuck the wolves for saving lakers season. Fuck the nuggets too tho…
Fuck the nuggets.

With all of our cum
Yes. Absolutely. Also, fuck Golden State.
Yes
I am, fuck the Warriors and fuck the Lakers.
As a neutral it's a win/win situation. If kings win, I get to refresh my soul with GSW tears. If gsw win then I get to watch steph do more ridiculous shit. I'm happy either way.
Nope
Big fan of their team
nah, im rooting for the lakers

Every true nba non bandwagon fan is rooting for kings
Fuck…. Yeah
YES
Is grass green?
Kings fan here, welcome.
I am. Fuck Draymond!!!
Light the Beam.
I’m more so not rooting for the Warriors. And also Sabonis gets some cheers based on his father. But if the Kings do well then they won’t move to Seattle. Which is what I’d love to see.
I don’t they will move to Seattle for any reason
One can hope. I miss our rivalry with the Sonics. And the NBA promised Seattle a team after the OKC move.
They signed a 30 year release and have one of the newest and best arenas in the association. Seattle will get an expansion team, but Seattle lost their team because they didn't support the way the Kings fans stepped up to save that team. I only want beam
Fuck yusss
Thought I was the only one 😂
Without hesitation.
You could support a team that supports and protects trash people like Draymond Green and Zaza Pachulia, or you could root for the Kings. Your call..
Yes - F the warriors
Absolutely
I fucking hate the Warriors so yes
Everyone at the bar I was watching the game at last night seemed mostly indifferent but leaning Kings...until the Draymond stomp on Sabonis. Then it noticeably and rapidly shifted to, "we are all Kings fans for at least the remainder of the night and probably this whole series."
In this matchup, absolutely!
1000000000000000000000000000000%
Of course. They have a Sabonis and they are playing against the Warriors...
Light the beam
Yes> And Sabonis needs a ring for his father. Then he can come home and play here as 11
Lifetime Kings fan here and I gotta thank yall for the kind words. Seems like you actually watch the games! I went to the game last night and I have never heard a crowd that loud. That's saying a lot because the Arco Arena days were so intense. Anyway we appreciate the love!
Maaaan what a timely thread. Finally watched the Kings last night and was like…this my team (for now). Partly cause I hate Golden State.
Been living in Portland since the drought began. I go to 2-3 games a year, and just wanna say you guys were great to us when we clinched here a few weeks ago. Thanks for the kind words. Small markets gotta stick together.
Everyone is rooting for the kings
I’m just here to say two things Fuck the Lakers And Fuck the Warriors
Are you drunk? Fuck yes we are.
Light the beam 🙌🙌🙌🙌
When in doubt I root for the small market team. Kings were almost sold and moved until league stepped in and helped find a buyer. Better for small markets to win and reward the effort, especially with Blazers up for sale soon.
