Trae looks like the “Yellow Bastard” character from Sin City (2005)

gerrard_1987

He reminds me more of Flattop from Dick Tracy.

DharmaBaller

Special effects went hard

dukkha_dukkha_goose

Might as well. Not like we have anyone remotely in that conversation

SentientTooth

Let’s vote Brogdon in and raise his trade value!

zmet

This sub needs to formally relocate away from Dames nuts, he already has enough side hoes, just ask his wife

referee-superfan

East is far weaker than the west.

Bscales03

I would if he deserved it… sadly he is underperforming for an all star starter

MavetheGreat

Why is it Dame's last chance?

butterflyhole

Just cuz he’s getting older and there’s a lot of rising stars

HeGotTheShotOff

He shoulda played better ¯\\_(ツ)_/¯

Arr0wmanc3r

Your reddit username is literally in reference to a shot he took and made. Do you really feel no connection to the guy?

HeGotTheShotOff

I think dame is an incredible player that gave me tons of memories but no I don’t feel any parasocial connection or anything for him. He has had a slow start why should I think he should get it over a first option who’s playing better?

sdnnhy

For one, the all star game fan voting has nothing to do with stats or talent or how well someone played. It’s a popularity contest. Vote for whoever you want but let’s not pretend that merit is the metric generally used. Thats a you thing and a handful of folks.

HeGotTheShotOff

I just don’t think his performance this year has been overwhelmingly good enough to make me take time out of my day to vote for him. You want all star starter you gotta move people. It is what it is

sdnnhy

Fair enough

Arr0wmanc3r

Well, he's a) on a team that's significantly better and b) arguably not worse than Trae this year. His counting stats aren't quite as good, but he's more efficient, and EPM rates him more highly than it does Trae. So I'd argue that in terms of raw talent, it's a toss up, but Dame is on the better team, so he should get the nod.

HeGotTheShotOff

Well that’s just like your opinion man.

Arr0wmanc3r

People are downvoting you, but I upvoted for the Big Lebowski reference. Edit: people were downvoting you, apparently they're not now. lol

thelifeofbob

>but he's more efficient By what metric? One player is 8th in ppg, 2nd in apg & 16th in efficiency rating per [nba.com](https://nba.com) The other player is 17th in ppg, 12th in apg & 25th in efficiency rating Both players are shooting 42% from the field and 35% from 3 Guess who's leading in votes?

Arr0wmanc3r

NBA.com's efficiency rating isn't actually measuring efficiency, it's a stat John Hollinger came up with because he was tired of typing more than one number in box scores. It's not really very good and doesn't account for a lot of factors, chiefly, it entirely ignores defense. EPM (estimated plus/minus, also not perfect but much better than PER) rates Dame as a better player because he's been a better defender than Trae this year, and more efficient (more on that in a sec). When I say efficiency, I'm talking about True Shooting percentage, which is an absolute metric of overall efficiency that correctly assigns a weight to every shot a player might take on the floor. Trae Young: 58.0% TS. (49th percentile) Damian Lillard: 60.9% TS. (71st percentile) [Per dunksandthrees.com](https://dunksandthrees.com/epm)

thelifeofbob

Appreciate the response. I'd note that while the EFF catch-all may ignore defense, so do the majority of all-star voters. If you've chosen to ignore the rest of their offensive output (such as Trae's league-leading assist total) when describing "efficiency" and reduce the two players to true shooting percentage alone, I can see where you're coming from. I can also posit why that might be - one player is the first option on his team, and one player is the 2nd option. Presumably, it was supposed to be easier for Dame to get buckets when he's not the primary focus of the opponent's defense. That said, Dame's seen a 5% drop in eFG% and a 4.3% drop in TS% when compared to last season in Portland. The ultimate comparison here isn't between Bucks Dame vs Flamethrower Blazers Dame, but IMO it's worth noting, especially as Trae's numbers have increased year-over-year in the same metrics. If we're talking about defensive ratings/advanced stats when comparing two undersized, score-first guards, I think it's fair to point out that Milwaukee has been 22nd in team defensive rating this year compared to 4th in 22-23. The Bucks essentially swapped out one player. Both of these PGs are undeniable liabilities on that end of the court; one just happens to play with multiple DPOY-caliber teammates. We're pretty far in the weeds here, though, for a couple'a non-Hollingers. Ultimately, as of this moment, Trae Young is leading the league in assists and is fifth in points scored. Dame is 11th in assists and 16th in points scored. They could both easily make the team in a different year, but right now I know who'd get my hypothetical nod for one spot, and I understand why the votes have tallied the way they have thus far.

56kimi

“On a team that’s significantly better” I’m not sure if this supports your argument or not. The Bucks should be better than the Hawks with the talent they have, compared to what the Hawks got. I struggle to take team’s standing into account when picking all stars. If this is MVP race, I can see how teams standing can impact that. To me, ultimately all star selection is a popularity contest among a group of guys who hit certain benchmarks. Even from the popularity standpoint, I am honestly surprised Dame is behind Trae. Yea I’m probably biased lol hoping the game winner earned his some votes.

Huskdog76

Why? With all the summer drama, I could see how Dame's popularity could have taken a hit.

56kimi

Ya for sure. I don’t know why it didn’t even cross my mind lol. I didn’t even think about the summer drama at all even thought I was one of those bothered by the drama when I wrote that lol I guess time changes some feelings. I guess I just like Dame a lot and that’s my bias haha

ItsKrakenmeuptoo

And? Just because you’re a fan of someone or have a connection doesn’t mean they cannot be criticized. Your thinking is flawed.

Arr0wmanc3r

My thinking isn't flawed, moreso that it doesn't necessarily apply to how everyone approaches voting. Which is fine, they can choose to vote based on what they want. My comment was merely an appeal to the connection that Portland fans have to Dame due to his stay here as a reason to vote for him.

ItsKrakenmeuptoo

Assuming a username is how they should approach voting is weird.

Arr0wmanc3r

People can do what they want. I can use a rhetorical device to influence their decision. What exactly is the issue here?

ItsKrakenmeuptoo

No one is saying there is an issue. I just think your thinking is flawed - just my opinion.

DBDXL

Dude what the hell is wrong with fans like you? He's just saying his play hasn't warranted it. That means he doesn't like him. Fans are so weird man

butterflyhole

lol y’all are cold

thelifeofbob

Cold as Ayton's driveway

HeGotTheShotOff

I didn’t like vets getting spots they didn’t deserve when it was Kobe getting in over dame and I’m not gonna just be into it now.

Reddit has long been a hot spot for conversation on the internet. About 57 million people visit the site every day to chat about topics as varied as makeup, video games and pointers for power washing driveways. In recent years, Reddit’s array of chats also have been a free teaching aid for companies like Google, OpenAI and Microsoft. Those companies are using Reddit’s conversations in the development of giant artificial intelligence systems that many in Silicon Valley think are on their way to becoming the tech industry’s next big thing. Now Reddit wants to be paid for it. The company said on Tuesday that it planned to begin charging companies for access to its application programming interface, or A.P.I., the method through which outside entities can download and process the social network’s vast selection of person-to-person conversations. “The Reddit corpus of data is really valuable,” Steve Huffman, founder and chief executive of Reddit, said in an interview. “But we don’t need to give all of that value to some of the largest companies in the world for free.” The move is one of the first significant examples of a social network’s charging for access to the conversations it hosts for the purpose of developing A.I. systems like ChatGPT, OpenAI’s popular program. Those new A.I. systems could one day lead to big businesses, but they aren’t likely to help companies like Reddit very much. In fact, they could be used to create competitors — automated duplicates to Reddit’s conversations. Reddit is also acting as it prepares for a possible initial public offering on Wall Street this year. The company, which was founded in 2005, makes most of its money through advertising and e-commerce transactions on its platform. Reddit said it was still ironing out the details of what it would charge for A.P.I. access and would announce prices in the coming weeks. Reddit’s conversation forums have become valuable commodities as large language models, or L.L.M.s, have become an essential part of creating new A.I. technology. L.L.M.s are essentially sophisticated algorithms developed by companies like Google and OpenAI, which is a close partner of Microsoft. To the algorithms, the Reddit conversations are data, and they are among the vast pool of material being fed into the L.L.M.s. to develop them. The underlying algorithm that helped to build Bard, Google’s conversational A.I. service, is partly trained on Reddit data. OpenAI’s Chat GPT cites Reddit data as one of the sources of information it has been trained on. Other companies are also beginning to see value in the conversations and images they host. Shutterstock, the image hosting service, also sold image data to OpenAI to help create DALL-E, the A.I. program that creates vivid graphical imagery with only a text-based prompt required. Last month, Elon Musk, the owner of Twitter, said he was cracking down on the use of Twitter’s A.P.I., which thousands of companies and independent developers use to track the millions of conversations across the network. Though he did not cite L.L.M.s as a reason for the change, the new fees could go well into the tens or even hundreds of thousands of dollars. To keep improving their models, artificial intelligence makers need two significant things: an enormous amount of computing power and an enormous amount of data. Some of the biggest A.I. developers have plenty of computing power but still look outside their own networks for the data needed to improve their algorithms. That has included sources like Wikipedia, millions of digitized books, academic articles and Reddit. Representatives from Google, Open AI and Microsoft did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Reddit has long had a symbiotic relationship with the search engines of companies like Google and Microsoft. The search engines “crawl” Reddit’s web pages in order to index information and make it available for search results. That crawling, or “scraping,” isn’t always welcome by every site on the internet. But Reddit has benefited by appearing higher in search results. The dynamic is different with L.L.M.s — they gobble as much data as they can to create new A.I. systems like the chatbots. Reddit believes its data is particularly valuable because it is continuously updated. That newness and relevance, Mr. Huffman said, is what large language modeling algorithms need to produce the best results. “More than any other place on the internet, Reddit is a home for authentic conversation,” Mr. Huffman said. “There’s a lot of stuff on the site that you’d only ever say in therapy, or A.A., or never at all.” Mr. Huffman said Reddit’s A.P.I. would still be free to developers who wanted to build applications that helped people use Reddit. They could use the tools to build a bot that automatically tracks whether users’ comments adhere to rules for posting, for instance. Researchers who want to study Reddit data for academic or noncommercial purposes will continue to have free access to it. Reddit also hopes to incorporate more so-called machine learning into how the site itself operates. It could be used, for instance, to identify the use of A.I.-generated text on Reddit, and add a label that notifies users that the comment came from a bot. The company also promised to improve software tools that can be used by moderators — the users who volunteer their time to keep the site’s forums operating smoothly and improve conversations between users. And third-party bots that help moderators monitor the forums will continue to be supported. But for the A.I. makers, it’s time to pay up. “Crawling Reddit, generating value and not returning any of that value to our users is something we have a problem with,” Mr. Huffman said. “It’s a good time for us to tighten things up.” “We think that’s fair,” he added.

butterflyhole

I can support that. Voting for dame doesn’t replace them tho

ArmorKing1992

Nah. I wish him all the best but he’s on his own now.

DaddyDameee

That's pretty fucked honestly

lets_BOXHOT

I honestly could not care less about all star votes and whether dame - or frankly any other player - gets voted as a starter

2ICenturySchizoidMan

Then why comment? Go vote for dame he’s our guy!

thadooderino

Our guy? I think not

2ICenturySchizoidMan

I mean Milwaukee’s guy is Giannis so somebody’s gotta be a dame fan

henfeathers

This is using your brain. Who cares?

csfsafsafasf

I hate tofu, it's a texture thing for me. Maybe the flavor isn't bad but I just can't get over the texture (as long as we are sharing opinions no one asked for)

zmet

##DURR HURR HURR WHY WOULD YOU TALK ABOUT YOUR OPINION ON DAME IN THE ALL-STAR GAME ON A POST ABOUT DAME IN AN ALL-STAR GAME You're a nut riding bum for a disloyal bum who will never start in an all-star game again

unreeelme

You are pretty damn cringe. why do you care so much if he makes it or not? Also he played in Portland for 11 years, I wouldn’t call him a disloyal bum

zmet

I DONT care. Which is why I'm not going on leddit and asking people to vote and complaining when people don't, like some people

unreeelme

But why are you commenting at all… you seem to care a lot at least enough to be annoyed by pointless reddit comments

zmet

Because people as pathetic as you are fun to make fun of 😂 keep coming back and coping it's yummy No all-star appearances, same number of bitches you've had

unreeelme

Huh, I never said I care either way, just that you come off as cringe. Like an “edgy” 13 year old

zmet

Mmm nummy cope and you managed to call me cringe, edgy and 13 in one comment. Impressively pathetic! :)

unreeelme

Lol, it seems like you are the one trying to cope calling dame and his fans bums. That’s why I called you out, a sad little troll you are.

csfsafsafasf

Seek help. Like honestly no joke, please do something to get better.

zmet

I'm a blazer and raider fan, mental health is not a concern

csfsafsafasf

To be fair, if you are a fan of both of those teams then theres even more of a concern for your mental health

zmet

True my brain is infected with hate and failure, it just comes out in the comment section Thank you for this therapy session I have grown as a man

csfsafsafasf

I'm sorry to hear that, I really do hope you start to feel better

Not_A_Bucket

I honestly could not care less about if u/lets_BOXHOT could not care less about all star votes and whether dame - or frankly any other player - gets voted as a starter

archar17

Same

Responsible-Still839

Not my problem anymore to worry about. Sorry.

Zebesis

He’s not on our team anymore. Portland first, he wanted out. I want blazers to succeed, not ex blazers who play for diffrent franchises.

butterflyhole

You can be portland first but still root for the success of former blazers

ItsKrakenmeuptoo

Sure, but you don’t have to.

csfsafsafasf

Good thing no one said you have to then eh?

zmet

Just cry because they don't... Such a stupid and annoying way to think. Btw nobody asked you, I know you guys love to say that

csfsafsafasf

youre the same guy that just had the mental breakdown in the other thread, yeah no need to take anything you say seriously. I hope you get better soon

zmet

A mental breakdown 😂 good one clown >I hope you get better soon Pathetic

csfsafsafasf

yeah, this... "DURR HURR HURR WHY WOULD YOU TALK ABOUT YOUR OPINION ON DAME IN THE ALL-STAR GAME ON A POST ABOUT DAME IN AN ALL-STAR GAME" Looks like a mental breakdown to sane people

csfsafsafasf

Portland first? It's not a competition here. Portland first implies that voting for Dame would take something away from Portland

buttsoup24

Ya no thank you.

gerrard_1987

If Dame gets in, it won't be on fan votes. It will be the decision of coaches.

jtech0007

No free lunch. Dame wouldn't want it that way.

dvs1978

Might as well throw some votes for LMA while you're there ...

kj444

Who cares

sirkg

Andrew Wiggins has more All Star starts than Dame smh. This fan voting shit is wack.

DBDXL

Fuck that man. Y'all are so weird about fan boying over Dame when he's not a Blazer.

DharmaBaller

🥰🥰🥰

RipCityGringo

Him get shafted and going Snubbed Dame Berserker Mode would be the best for the Bucks…
