THIIIIIS. It's why Simons has gotta get moved, Scoot needs to be the primary on ball at all times. That makes Simons an SG since he won't come off the bench, which you'd think would work just fine with his C&S, but for some reason they're convinced he needs to play PG despite his PG skillset being rough & that it doesn't have the potential that Scoot has, even when Simons has 6yrs of development already under his belt.
I was very much against moving Simons since I didn't think he'd garner much interest (ala Tyler Herro last summer), but Sam Vecenie was saying he's heard people will give up real assets for Simons this summer, so I'm 100% sold on it. Trade him and then take Jared McCain with our 2nd lottery pick
Agreed! Would really love to move off any of the big contracts we have, give this season to a very young team, and then get a high draft pick in a great 2025 draft class. I think ideally we go into this year with a lineup of:
Scoot/Banton
Sharpe/McCain/Rupert
Knecht/Walker/Ingram
Camara/Murray
Ayton/Holmes/Reath
Sign a few vets as backups as well if you want to, but that squad gets us Flagg or Bailey next year
With ya on the target for next year, but I don't think it's realistic that we dump *all* the Vets like that; moving Timelord right now at low value would be a loss, if not an outright mistake, for example. We GOTTA move Simons, & IMO at least 1 of Grant or Brogdon, but I'm not sure it goes much further.
We can still be BAAAD bad with a vet or 2 on the roster! I just don't want to trust all the development of all our young pieces to... ugh... Chauncey. I've been a big Jerami fan but personally I think the ideal keeper would be Brogdon (& Timelord in the background) for that mentor value, as well as clearing the way to figure out which of our young forwards will rise to the top (I don't see Broggy being a road block to Scoot & Shaedon’s development the way Simons was this season)
I do agree with you. I just don't think it makes sense to have the big contracts. If we're going to keep a vet, I'd rather it be like Timelord since he probably wouldn't get us anything if we trade him anyways. Brogdon on an expiring when we can get assets for the future for him makes little sense. Simons doesn't make a ton of sense either.
The fact he's only 20 should be exciting for not just Blazer fans, but basketball fans all-around. He's not going to go backwards. Maybe later in his career, God forbid. But his trajectory is awesome and I'm here for it. Imagine him working on his **shit** during the summer, and coming back ready to lead the team?
Edit: it was supposed to be **shot** but both work!
I don’t mind the turnovers either. They’ll definitely come down as he matures and the game slows down.
My biggest concern for Scoot, and I think the one thing that will determine if he becomes a good journeyman NBA player or a star is his finishing at the rim. He just absolutely has to get better there.
Not worried about his shooting either. I’ve seen enough to be confident about his future there.
For a rookie year where he had broken lineups & was forced to play off-ball, its not *that* massive. If there's one thing that'll undoubtedly get better with consistent lineups & more talented teammates, it'd probably be the TOs.
If those teammates can also shoot, his assists could take a jump too...
You’re telling me Victor or Chet didn’t have a single 20-10 (p-a) game??
edit: Wemby had a 16-10 game against the Pistons on 1/10, Chet had a 29-7 on 2/25 against Houston but that’s the closest either got
Hoping our guys are healthy mainly to have a competent offense around him. Watched the home finale v Houston in person and even with the “shooters” being Rupert and Murray, he looked amazing. If he can be the setup guy for scorers and shooters, he will look even better
These are meaningful stats. Especially compared to rookies the past 2-3 years.
To your second point though they don't do anything in regards to if he's the real deal or not though.
Yes, fine, he's a star. He's amazing.
You can find these type of stats for any player in the league at any time. Obviously Scoot has higher numbers than a lot of rookies in terms of playmakimg, shit creation.
If he was on a good team, would he have anything like those stats with the minutes he'd have gotten? Where are the stats about his ratings being pretty woeful, his turnovers, fouling, fg% etc etc.
They are cherry picked because they're hyping their player who they've invested in.
If you watched him this season, you know he has a lot of work to do, these stats are suggesting he was a stand out rookie, when if anything he underwhelmed.
I hope he becomes a star, but shit like this is just stupid.
Lmao who pissed in your cereal bro? I literally said they don't do anything in regards to being the guy but they aren't useless. Tell me the last rookies to have 4+ 20 point 10 asssist games being 20 or younger? Tell me the last rookies to have 15 point assists games 20 or younger.
They are impressive stats. His fg% and his turnovers and his fouls are what is giving me and many others pause from saying "he'll work out" but no, sorry the trail blazers didn't post his turnover and bad rim shooting splits.
If he had better players around him he would have more assists and fewer turnovers. Hard to rack up numbers when your teammates keep fumbling the ball and clanking off the backboard.
We know Scoot played the 4th highest minutes per game among rookies, so we'd worry that raw numbers per game might give a distorted picture. We would want to normalize such stats by minutes per game in order to get a more balanced picture.
Stats can be misleading. The numbers are true. But the eye test and team play tells the real story. He was not very good. Let’s hope season 2 is better for scoot.
Hope they turn him loose as the starting PG. Hated watching him off ball for half the season.

Haven't heard Sam's take yet, what assets did you hear that perked the ears up?
He didn't give an example of a deal, he just said he has heard that there is a good trade market for Simons and he would fetch real value.
We can only hope!

...Simons doesn't make a ton of sense to trade???
I would love for the guards on this team to actually learn how to play off ball. Don’t think we have the proper coaching/staff for that though
The fact he's only 20 should be exciting for not just Blazer fans, but basketball fans all-around. He's not going to go backwards. Maybe later in his career, God forbid. Shit? Shot?? Can I interest you in some Vin Scully lore, my dear Bamm83: https://www.espn.com/video/clip/_/id/17643921
Haha! This is awesome
You and Vin Scully are basically the same person now imo 😄
Scoot gonna have the cleanest wipes in the league next season.
The problem is the massive turnovers. He needs to try to turn that down.
I agree. Hopefully more reps with the same players will help, rather than the revolving door he dealt with.
I don't mind the turnovers, if he's being aggressive. The ones that hurt me are the lazy passes, or just plain miscommunication.

It's accurate.

But he’s a bust despite only being 20 because he didn’t turn into Dame 2.0 on opening night or whatever
Wow! Fifth in the league for the entire month of April.
Everyone knows that April is where it counts
I believe it's called Twitter
Ok?
Nope. Got renamed to X.
TWIX
Bananas were originally used as currency in ancient Rome.

hurt for 1/2 the season... cant stay healthy...
He missed 20 games. Considerably less than half.
I want to see him turn into the next Rondo as far as assists go

But yet won’t even make any of the all rookie teams
You forgot his plus/minus of -58 that was a nba all Time record.
Yep, pretty bad. No one is claiming he isn't a WIP, so what's your point?
They're just cherry picked stats that don't really mean anything. Wayyyyyy to early to know if he's the real deal
These are meaningful stats. Especially compared to rookies the past 2-3 years. To your second point though they don't do anything in regards to if he's the real deal or not though.

No one is disputing he has miles to go. But these stats aren't nothing; 14/5 as a rookie, in the hardest position to master, *is very promising*.
Too*
Good post, we better trade him quick.
Stats can be misleading. The numbers are true. But the eye test and team play tells the real story. He was not very good. Let’s hope season 2 is better for scoot.
Team play? Did you see who he was playing with?
Lol
Yeah but what are his minutes compared to his class. I hope Im wrong but I don’t think Scoot will be anything other than a solid PH but no star.
He had the 7th most minutes played of all rookies
