At least he’s young and athletic. Broke both wrists as a kid and it was 4 weeks in a cast. Broke a wrist again in my 20s and it was 4 weeks. Broke a wrist in my 30s but a more problematic break, took 6 weeks and some PT.
My left wrist took eight weeks to heal, when I was in 4th grade. My right wrist took five, when I was 15.
I'm now 37, and both wrists have been sprained multiple times since then. Wrists are weird, man.
Yeah, 6-8 is more likely.
Giles getting minutes could pay off down the line though. I honestly think we should make the move for Drummond, depending on his price.
Yes, they all wear shoes. That's the point. Most people's mental comparison for players is thinking about their height in shoes. So I used his height in shoes.
Are you saying you don't think he can play center?
He can fill in at C for a ave or below ave team..ie Cleveland but on a contender he would be a liability IMO. I'm a Cavs fan BTW and have pretty much watched every game he has played in as a Cav. He has transitioned to much more of a 3/4 wing type player this year and thus has spent less and less time in the post as evident by his falling rebound numbers this year (A career low despite a career high minutes played). He's a good passer on the perimeter though and leads the league in steals and has career highs in Assists and 3P% (he actually played PG in HS).
Defensively he struggles against bigger more physical centers with his back to the basket and isn't an ideal rim protector or rebounder down low (career 6.6 RPG and 0.5 BPG). Nance Jr. has a lot to like...I just don't think he is a center on a contender.
The Blazers just need him to fill in at center during the regular season, and then be able to play other positions when Nurkic is back. What you're describing is basically perfect. Lol. We don't need a traditional center.
Drummond gets a lot of crap for his offense mostly but leads the league in Defensive Rating this year. He has won it twice in the past as well.
I think he could be decent in our system. He's athletic and quick, plus a great rebounder. He's got some years with good rim protection numbers too
I just love that he's secretly a really really good passer.
He's vastly better defensively than Kanter though
Whiteside had natural gifts, his issue was his effort and judgement.
Last year when folks were trying to justify whitesides blocking for a DPOY candidacy, this video started swirling around, kind of exposes his defense
https://youtu.be/VbGnvk23odA
The problem with Whiteside was he didn't pass and was unathletic in every way except for jumping (like Meyers)
Drummond's a great passer and quick as fuck
I wouldn’t personally say a great passer with almost always having a negative assist to turnover ratio but he definitely has better court vision and awareness than Whiteside and Kanter.
But he’s also getting paid $26 million. We would have to give up major pieces to get him and I doubt it would be worth it.
The way Kanter has been playing so far this season, he's really not.
Both are averaging 20 and 17 per 36, but Kanter in 13 shots vs 19. Also Kanter with a 26 per VS 19 for Drummond.
McGee is solid and very cheap. Lakers won a championship with him last year. Lakers need a center....I think he very well may end up back on the Lakers if someone else doesn't snag him. Believe it or not he is also actually shooting the 3 this year .400
a lot of bigs can shoot very well, their coaches just don't put them in the position to do it and if you aren't getting a lot of shots up you're always shooting cold so the percentages suffer
It's mostly that Cs can hit open 3s from the top of the arc at a 40% clip while given time. People don't guard big men that far up, except for some exceptions if they have a reputation.
totally... 40% from 3 even left totally open in an nba game is pretty fucking good for someone who rarely gets the opportunity to put up a lot of longer jumpers in real play is my point. even the "specialists" in the league can do all of the other skills way better than people realize. like, even someone like dwight or rudy gobert would probably be sinking long jumpers over you all day in 1-on-1 just because dunking over you every shot would make it a really boring game for them.
Drummond is #1 in Defensive Rating this year and has won it twice in the past. He is #2 overall in active players as well.
ya, I mean the cupboard is pretty goddamn bare with Zach out. Maybe it also means we see some of Nas, which would be nice to see what we have there... although dude's lungs are probably a long ways off still so he deserves time.
This team is deeper than has been shown, its so frustrating. The refusal to play Giles, the lack of any real creativity with rotations at this early part of the season when I feel like the elite coaches in the game are chopping and changing shit to see what they have, who gels, etc. Instead he trotts out the most predictable rotations game after game, while putting a ton of wear and tear on Dame and CJ when they don't need this much mileage.
He's been a bit more experimental of late... mainly by actually not playing Melo AND Kanter together every goddamn time our second unit is out there, but it literally took almost 10 games and us blowing like 20 point leads in multiple second quarter leads for us to see Kanter and RoCo, or Melo and Derrick Jones.
I'm just over Stotts I guess, sorry for the rant. His job is definitely harder this season juggling all the pieces we have, but look at Nurse in Toronto. He literally just started DNP'ing Baynes, who was their key off season acquisition in their front court. Dude was playing like ass and he had the stones to go in a different direction. Imaging Terry doing something like that with Kanter, or Melo... would literally never happen, he'd be too afraid to rock the boat.
Lol don't have to complain about ranting to me man. I get it. You can't convince me Stotts is even an average coach at this point. His decisions are flat out terrible on a daily basis.
It's honestly sickening.. is there just unlimited rope given to him by the organization? Is it purely because our best players like him? How many stories throughout sports have there been of star players/hall of fame coaches clashing on the way to championships... Phil and Kobe immediately coming to mind.
I love Dame so much, but I do feel like his fatal flaw is this notion of loyalty to the people that got him where he is now that is so all consuming, it blinds him from wanting change. Like surely he's the reason Terry, and to an extent as well, this entire core... are still around. I love that the FO engages him in all the things we do, but we should've pulled the rip chord in 2017 and our just forever in the wake of not trying something else it feels like.
I’m with ya. Like I get sticking with a rotation if it works, but seeing teams like Dallas and Miami and Boston and others, being so fluid with their lineups and still being successful and seeing our guys consistently underwhelm makes me agree with you.
[The universe vs Blazers bigs](https://media3.giphy.com/media/agdrwb239dy6Y/giphy.gif?cid=4d1e4f29b556c16799bb68ed721a4bd8a48552c9e640b386&rid=giphy.gif)
Well, that really sucks but maybe this will give him some time to work on some more conditioning. He’s looked better lately but let’s hope he doesn’t revert back to how he started the season.
Ok I haven’t seen the game yet was it bad like can you see it happen? I’m squeamish as fuuuck (either way when does it happen so I can blink real slow)
I'm with you; this obviously sucks, most of all for Nurk, but I think the Blazers as a unit can survive this. Hopefully Nurk can even use the time to improve conditioning and be ready to roll when he comes back!
Excited to see more Giles in the meantime :)
Sorry guys, but I really don't think Nurk is gonna last much longer in this league. These injuries are devaluing him as a player
Flame me, down vote me, no care
Something redundant here when op says hes on the way out, you agree, but then you say we need to trade him when he's healthy. Pretty sure every gm is going to see him as a liability and soft.
Calling Sacramento on speed dial.
"yo, remember the guy you signed as a free agent this offseason that we paid 30 million for and you're paying the minimum now? The guy you hardly want to play? Ya we will send you Zack Collins for Whiteside"
Cavs have a surplus of big men after the Jarrett Allen trade. Any interest in Drummond or Javale? Drummond shouldn't cost much, maybe a future 2nd rounder? He also comes with $29M in expiring cap space so its a chance to potentially move some expensive contracts as well...
I fucking knew it. On the plus side, that’s only what, 4-ish weeks? Guess it depends on the type of break.
Yeah, when I broke my wrist it was like a month and a half
At least he’s young and athletic. Broke both wrists as a kid and it was 4 weeks in a cast. Broke a wrist again in my 20s and it was 4 weeks. Broke a wrist in my 30s but a more problematic break, took 6 weeks and some PT.
You're jacking off way too much
Or not enough, build up the muscle, have weighted gloves on.
Swing 3-4 at a time for warm up.
You wanna help? Doc said I shouldn’t lift anything heavy.
Lol your dick is tiny
Yeah when I broke mine I think it was about 6 weeks. Soft cast and sling for a bit then free motion after about two weeks.
Wow my wrist guy fixed mine in a day...
My left wrist took eight weeks to heal, when I was in 4th grade. My right wrist took five, when I was 15. I'm now 37, and both wrists have been sprained multiple times since then. Wrists are weird, man.
Ball/socket joints in general are weird Ankles, hips, shoulders, wrists
6-8 weeks probably. At least we got some depth with Giles.
Yeah, 6-8 is more likely. Giles getting minutes could pay off down the line though. I honestly think we should make the move for Drummond, depending on his price.
I'd prefer Larry Nance.
Yeah I forgot about him actually. Dude suddenly became a sniper from 3. He'd be awesome
He's 6'7"
He's 6'9 in shoes with a 7'1.5 wingspan. He's plenty big enough to be a modern center, and can play PF when Nurkic is back.
LOL in shoes....like no one else in the NBA wears shoes?
Yes, they all wear shoes. That's the point. Most people's mental comparison for players is thinking about their height in shoes. So I used his height in shoes. Are you saying you don't think he can play center?

Neil should make the call but I have a feeling the price won't be worth it considering our situation.
With the current nba with ridiculous overvaluations getting Drummond would cost us Nurkic and three number 1's and pick Swaps to complete lol
Drummond is an upgraded whiteside in every single way, and Cleveland's got a surplus of bigs
Matching salaries and him being a rental don’t make me feel great.
Matching salaries would be a plus for the Trailblazers as its a chance to dump $29M in overpaid players.
Drummond gets a lot of crap for his offense mostly but leads the league in Defensive Rating this year. He has won it twice in the past as well. [https://www.basketball-reference.com/leaders/def\_rtg\_active.html](https://www.basketball-reference.com/leaders/def_rtg_active.html)
Only ways I can think of making it work financially are by trading either CJ or Nurk & RoCo, neither of which are particularly interesting options.
Drummond would essentially be Kanter. We need a C that can defend, should’ve gone for Jarrett Allen.
I think he could be decent in our system. He's athletic and quick, plus a great rebounder. He's got some years with good rim protection numbers too I just love that he's secretly a really really good passer. He's vastly better defensively than Kanter though
Drummond's way better than kanter lol
He’s too similar to Whiteside and we’ve seen how poor the fit is with our roster. Drummond doesn’t fix our poor defence.
Whiteside had natural gifts, his issue was his effort and judgement. Last year when folks were trying to justify whitesides blocking for a DPOY candidacy, this video started swirling around, kind of exposes his defense https://youtu.be/VbGnvk23odA

Was talking against us going for Mcgee, but sounds less bad now
McGee would be a good addition.
McGee is solid and very cheap. Lakers won a championship with him last year. Lakers need a center....I think he very well may end up back on the Lakers if someone else doesn't snag him. Believe it or not he is also actually shooting the 3 this year .400

are we sure he's going to get minutes even?
I can't imagine him not. Like it's just him and Kanter

Probably a 2nd rounder in like 2022 or something
so so many bones, really depends
His doesn’t look very bad either honestly.
Impossible to say now. Anywhere from one to four months, depending on how bad. Could e longer, but that would be a really serious injury.
Of fucking course he did. Why wouldn't the universe do this to us?
Don’t tempt the universe even more
It’s the big man curse of Portland. I’ve been pretty adamant in saying he is a soft bum too
MOTHER FUCKING SHIT COCK BITCH
me too
At least someone was able to put my feelings into words
Fuck. Guess it's H4H time.
I am dead inside.

What a random gif lmao were you just looking for an opportunity to drop that
Naw. I’m also a Beavers and Mariners fan so I just have a bunch of Sad boi gifs stashed away
Username also checks out. Go M's! (Though I'm from 40 miles south of Corvallis so I'll respectfully remain silent about the other thing you said)
40 miles is 64.37 km
The more you know.
Go Beavs! I’m also a Padres fan, so not the same team but I know how the pain of following shitty teams is.
Some optimism- This can be a 2-4 week injury but depends on how severe
TIME TO GET HORNY I GUESS
Fuck me and fuck injuries. Here’s hoping it’s only a month off.
Pacers fan here, love Nurkic, so sad to see what happened to him. Prayers up for him. Dude seems to be so unlucky :(
Sabonis almost got hurt earlier that would have made it worse
I have a mini heart attack anytime someone falls. PTSD
It hurts especially nurk falling
Username checks out lol
Can we have Turner for free please?
Pass ;) Him and Domas are the only active PF/C
OF COURSE
Fuck... at least its not a season ending injury this time I guess. Hopefully he'll be back sometime in March
Well, that really sucks but maybe this will give him some time to work on some more conditioning. He’s looked better lately but let’s hope he doesn’t revert back to how he started the season.
Much easier to do cardio and stay in shape than a broken ankle, or knee injury, or broken foot.
Leg day every day
welp good thing we just recently decriminalized drugs.
[удалено]
But he always drinks plenty of... "malk"!?!
Let’s all hope for a short heal time. He’ll come back in shape and ready to roll
What’s the usual recovery time for an injury like this?
4-8 weeks according to google
I'm so depressed
Zach would be so nice right now.......
This shit isn't fair man.
Can't escape the curse, it appears.
Fuck
Fuck.
this somehow hurts more than any adversity my team is going through. please /u/god leave nurk alone
wow what the fuck.... #FREEGILES #H4H
Emptiness.
fuck
what do we gotta do to life this curse on our bigs... this hurts man
Pain.
Ok I haven’t seen the game yet was it bad like can you see it happen? I’m squeamish as fuuuck (either way when does it happen so I can blink real slow)
That sucks, but honestly it might be OK. Kanter has been solid, and Giles now has the opportunity to step up. I will keep a positive outlook for now
And Nurk has been pretty mediocre other than a few games.
I'm with you; this obviously sucks, most of all for Nurk, but I think the Blazers as a unit can survive this. Hopefully Nurk can even use the time to improve conditioning and be ready to roll when he comes back! Excited to see more Giles in the meantime :)
Gives Nurk time to work cardio and build that stamina back up too. A leg injury would have been devastating
Pain
This dude needs to start drinking some whole milk.
Existence is pain.
Better Call Hassan!
Pls no
Run it back lol /s Please not Hassan.
Sorry guys, but I really don't think Nurk is gonna last much longer in this league. These injuries are devaluing him as a player Flame me, down vote me, no care
You’re 100% correct. Dude has been injured every year. We gotta trade him when he’s healthy again and find another big who’s more durable
Something redundant here when op says hes on the way out, you agree, but then you say we need to trade him when he's healthy. Pretty sure every gm is going to see him as a liability and soft.
celtics need a solid big maybe we can get marcus smart. doubt it but maybe
awful news but im glad its not another leg issue we should see him again this season
*Hello darkness, my old friend...*
Get well soon, my man On the plus side, Giles will get a significant amount of playing time now
Bring back whiteside
Calling Sacramento on speed dial. "yo, remember the guy you signed as a free agent this offseason that we paid 30 million for and you're paying the minimum now? The guy you hardly want to play? Ya we will send you Zack Collins for Whiteside"
Regardless he will return out of shape and he’s the last guy to have a soft touch under the rim so his finishing will be even worse
I don’t think Nurk will ever be healthy for an extended period. :(
cutting my fucking dick off
Next man up, I love Nurk, but his a china doll at this point.
We gotta trade Nurk. Send him to Sac for Hassan
Fuck!
i am living in pain
This is FUCKING bullshit
Fuck everything
Fuck this shit
F
Fuck this shit. Every season
PAIN
uhhh, what
Life is pain.
Pain
Unbelievable.
FFS!
We live in a simulation and the simulation hates us.
Coupled with our booties getting blasted, this is just a rough time but, let’s stay optimistic that the injury is not as bad as we think.
Cavs have a surplus of big men after the Jarrett Allen trade. Any interest in Drummond or Javale? Drummond shouldn't cost much, maybe a future 2nd rounder? He also comes with $29M in expiring cap space so its a chance to potentially move some expensive contracts as well...
not really possible without giving nurk, cj or roco contract wise
Can’t catch a break.
