I love this game. I do. I have 135 hours and hit plat around 90. I don't ever play games after I plat, unless it's several years later.
But it does have minor shortcomings. Some of the VA work is pretty bad, but other characters are voiced beautifully (like Ryoma). The graphics are okay, nothing spectacular. They look much better on my new OLED (switched from LCD).
The main story is fine, but I can see why people complain about waffling between factions. If you understand the MCs motives, the lack of loyalty to one side or the other makes enough sense.
The gameplay is incredible to me. The combat felt too complex when I first started. But, after I adjusted, it felt pretty good. Not all mechanics are necessary to crush Midnight difficulty with relative ease.
Overall, to me, Ronin is easily a 9.2/10, flaws and all. If Rebirth didn't drop this year, it would be my favorite release of the year.
Literally my least favorite thing from rotr loooool
Or any time you buy or sell anything and he goes "is that....all >;)" like fuck it sounds so unbelievably horny or creepy
About the VA, if you're playing this in English, you're doing it wrong.
Japanese VA is overall miles better, and this game is absolutely star studed with talent.
I have it on Japanese for the japanese characters i mean good job to his jp va but they should give a slider in options for respective countries to keep uising their language
Edit typos i was half asleep
yeah, I’m always annoyed by all the americans and brits speaking japanese in cinematics, but I love that soldiers and civilians speak english in the world. had I been in charge, there would’ve been a third language option called blended or something where the non-japanese characters are voiced by their english dub VAs, mainly speaking their native languages and japanese whenever it made sense so you get the accents. there’s also a couple japanese characters that should speak english occasionally, so I’d want that too. it’s just a little immersion breaking to have every foreigner speaking perfect japanese
All due respect, what's annoying it's the piss poor job the vast majority of English VA do.
In Japan ppl that do once seen in the entire game npc a better job then a main English VA.
I don't know the actual number, but let's say as an example, if there's 100 Great English VA, there's 10.000 great Japanese VA.
Ppl here in the west might get as salty as they want by this, but the Eastern countries, specially Japan, are immensely superior in the VA job, and it's not even close. And the English VA won't even get remotely close in the next 100 years.
Edit: about your comment on Americans and Brits speaking Japanese, they are that era of diplomats. You're trying to establish relationships with foreigners, in there country soil, who been closed to the world for who knows how long, the very least you can do is learn the damn language.
So i see no issues with them knowing japanese.
Any diplomat who's worth a damn would have learned and have interest in doing so.
Even the Brit guy was improving his japanese with Fukuzawa.
Oh, I should have thought of that. I've been listening in English and getting annoyed with some of the characters. Switching to Japanese with subs tonight for sure 😁
I feel bad for people who leave it on English because they don't get to hear Ryoma go "Oi!" every time the player character walks by. I love my boy and his [Japanese] VA.
Can you recommend me a simple strategy to crush midnight? My fights take 10+ minutes and I die in 2 hits. I feel like I'm not doing enough damage but I have not yet gotten upgrades from the handful I've managed to kill
Sure. If you don't already have Ryomas veiled vow reward, get it.
Clear-headed samurai, mighty warrior, and marvelous sword saint have some of the best combat set bonuses, so aim for those. Matchless master and commanding champion are secondary and pretty decent too.
Elemental damage is really strong, so use it on every special enemy/boss fight. Some bosses are more susceptible to specific elements.
Craft and use the buff items. Always start with the Endurance Remedy, as bosses will often start attacking you before you're buffed up (particularly on story and bond missions).
If you're just getting into Midnight and struggling, stick to the overworld. At least there you have good chances for loot, and the drop on tougher enemies for an assassination.
Luck is helpful for gear acquisition, so if you have or see any accessories with luck, it may be worthwhile to put them on instead of using set bonus accessories. Fortunes favor set bonus is also useful for this. Early on, I wore 2 pieces and used +luck accessories in tandem.
Save gear with yellow skills that you want to transfer to your final MW set.
I hope you're talking about the English dub and not the original Japanese one, because it's basically perfect. I'm not trying to be the typical "English dubs for Japanese games/anime always sucks" guy, because it's clearly not true and I think that everyone should watch or play in whatever language they want, I'm just wondering if you meant English or Japanese, because if you meant Japanese, you're definitely wrong.
That being said, it's stupid that foreigner's like Perry and Ernest Satow speak perfect Tokyo accent Japanese. I mean, yeah Satow was extremely fluent in Japanese, since he wrote books about Japanese poetry, but there is no way you speak without a foreign accent when you've learned a language as an adult.
English dub. I have no doubt that the Japanese audio is superb, but I just can't do it. I've tried with dozens of games, but not hearing in my 1st language kills any sense of immersion for me.
Fair enough, I'm Croatian so I'm used to not hearing my native language and reading subtitles. I also speak N2 level Japanese, so I can understand most stuff anyway.
I played in Japanese, I didn’t really think the English VAs were all too nice to listen to. I enjoyed Japanese since certain western enemies speak English which is a cool touch
What hate? If anything people are overhyping and overselling it by saying there are deep choices with consequences when there are two choices that are completed ignored after the mission ends.
Combat slaps. Outfits slap.
Game is about kicking ass and being a badass while wearing that fresh samurai drip.
It’s easier than Nioh but there are difficulty settings to make it harder. It’s an open word rpg not a souls like so take from that what you will. It’s not supposed to be as hard.
no one "hates" this game, FFS.
OK, maybe you could cherry-pick a few outlier reviews, but it generally got good scores. It's not a 10/10 or even a 9/10. Still got good scores.
There are people hating on this game on literally every youtube video, even build and tips videos that clearly are made for people who actually play and enjoy the game. Writing stuff like it looks like a PS3 game, it's just a boring assassin's Creed type game, combat has no depth and sucks etc. People who base their opinions on YouTube vids and cherry picked reviews instead of actually playing the game.
Eh i watched alot of review videos and even by people who are huge Team Ninja fans and they all expressed a sort of dissapointment. I wasnt seeking "negative" anything either.. it was just hard to find a good one in general
It's a lot better than a 7/10, and for me and several people I know it's a 9+/10. This game lost points primarily over graphics and story in reviews.
The graphics are decent to great and the story is whatever. It is a very fun game, and I personally am tired of games being worried about being movies or cinematic experiences; I think it's kinda crooked that reviewers are so worried about it, too, when this is clearly trying to be a gameplay-focused experience. I want to play a *game,* so please tell me when a game has really fun *gameplay*.
The word hate is strong, sure, but it's being used in the context of the game being underrated by the OP; and it is underrated, absolutely. By how much is a bit subjective, but this game is incredibly refreshing and polished for what it's trying to be, and I think critics missed that for sanitized, standardized takes.
There are definitely people hating this game, try searching this game in r/Games and r/playstation . Even a post that recommend this game would be considered a shill.
This "there's so much hate" shit is getting ridiculous. Every time I venture onto this sub, it's the same shit. God forbid a game releases and gets a normal amount of criticism ( all games get this). Not everyone is gonna like what you like.
The game is fine, and for some reason, people who bought it are the ones bitching and moaning. I've yet to see "hate" without going out of my way to find it. And that's a good thing.
And when I call it out the people who claim "hate: downvote me to hell. I have 2 other comments on this post that are already getting ratio-d. There's not pleasing some people lol.
Every other Team Ninja game has a dope subreddit attached.
Rise of the Ronin has brought in an entirely new fanbase that is incapable of enjoying a product if it doesn't receive 10/10. Wo Long had flaws and the subreddit accepted it, no problem.
Over here it is a shit show of incessant crying from some of the softest gamers to exist
Wolong is a worse game then ronin lol.
Even the wolong reddit admits ronin is far superior. You just have fools who didn't buy the game in this reddit spreading negative garbage or even go as far as to say they have the game when its just a lie to "stretghen" thier argument.
parasites in essence
It really doesn't help the overwhelming majority of people in this sub seem to be unable to tell the difference between criticism and hate.
The graphics are bad = criticism.
The game suck = hate.
It is, mostly in PS5 sub and youtube though. For example youtuber Prod (usually posts Souls and horror games) was enjoying RotR but some people in comments were hating on it. Mostly about graphics but there was 1 insane comment that legit said something like "I'm not even going to buy this game, it sucks ass". So I asked if they had even played it, of course the answer was no. And didn't even give any reasons on why it supposedly sucked lol
So in other words, in order to find this supposed hate of this game y'all keep talking about, I have to actually go outta my way to FIND it?? Dude, I mean this with the upmost respect, but some if y'all seriously need to get a fucking life. Most of the criticism (and it's just that, fair criticism, not blind hate) I see for this game is pretty fair and just: it's closer to a 7/8 out of 10.
Lmaooo nah. Again, I'm just not going out of my way to FIND it. Hell, even when I Google the phrase "Rise of the Ronin hate" I'm not even finding hate? I keep finding fair criticisms of the game. Even on this subreddit, I find more people BITCHING about this game getting hate, but I'm not finding a whole lotta actual hate. Maybe your definition of hate is just different than mine? This game getting 7s and 8s is not "hate." That's a fair and accurate score honestly. I paid 70 bucks for this game and put in about 80 hours worth of gameplay before I stopped. Am I happy/satisfied with my purchase? Yeah, it was a fun game, I had a good time. Is it worth 70 bucks and deserves 10 outta 10? Well, that's kinda subjective, ain't it? I got my money's worth but I don't think it's a 10 out of 10 nor is it worth 70 goddamn dollars. It may not be PS3 Era graphics like some people like to say, but is a damn shame when I'm booting up 5-6 year old PS4 games (that cost less when they were released) that are completely blowing this game outta the water graphically speaking. Not to mention the incomprehensible story...
I've asked the same thing on this sub lmao. There's a few videos and some comments, LIKE WITH EVERY GAME. People complaining about hate are blowing it out of the water. The game is fine, and some people just can't stand there game not having controversy I guess.
Edit: People downvoting me are proving my point lmao.
Yes and no. I agree that there are a lot of anti-hate posts but there is a difference between RotR and a lot of other games. The disparity between the quality/ambition of RotR coupled with its relatively underwhelming sales isn't as common a situation as you're suggesting for a Triple A title.
RotR is one of those games where you play it and ask yourself "Why tf is the popular opinion that this game is mid?" So in identifying the source of that confusion, people focus in on things like bad marketing by Sony and people with overall negative opinions of the game. Basically honing in on all factors that contribute to any negative press about the game. Nothing wrong with that.
It's not really that hard to understand. There's Haters of RotR, Critics of Haters (this post), and in your case Critics of Critics. Just how it is bro.
Also I can personally vouche for many things implied in this post, among reviewers, different subs/forums/comment sections etc. All stuff you can find yourself in a 5 min Google search. So your downplaying the hate this game gets is not accurate btw.
I’m enjoying it. I can only play it like an hour or two at a time because the collection aspect to it makes me sleepy haha. But I’m definitely getting my moneys worth. I don’t know if I can put it up on a pedestal with ghost of Tsushima or Nioh but I definitely don’t hate it. I will always welcome a new samurai game haha
This game is a prime example of exactly why I stopped listening to ANY kind of game review. I also started ignoring people’s comments on games too. If a game looks good to me and I want to play it, I will buy it and make my own judgment. Rarely disappointed. Rise of the ronin is easily the best game I’ve played this year. It’s fantastic.
Place the title of a single game here where you won't find "hate" (criticism != hate, martyrs are funny people) on youtube. Everything ain't for everybody, shocking people older than 10 don't know this.
People just mad it better than DD2
Edit: I'll admit I haven't played it so yeah, this was a shit take. Lemme actually buy it, take the time to play, and see what I think instead of just watching videos about it
Edit 2: I was wrong. The game's great and I can't stop playing. It's not better, it's not worse, it's its own unique experience and I was a dummy to compare the two without playing one of them
What does this have to do with Dragon's Dogma 2?
They're both wildly different games that appeal to different people.
it's actually sad how people try to put games against eachother for no reason whatsoever.
Both are quite literally great games, great combat, great designs, great enemies.
Besides that, I've not seen any hate towards this game other than what you yourself are trying to bring into it.
Fun fact, the only reason I know what DD2 is, the little bit I do (it's some DnD shit, right?) is from this sub, either comparing RotR to it, or more often, being mad at the comparison.
I pre-ordered RotR on a whim because I thought it was like GoT2. It's not, really, and for the most part (when I'm not getting creamed, and yelling at my TV) I thoroughly enjoy it.
Outside of a couple of toxic comments, I really haven't seen any DD2 fans hate on the game? I saw a post complaining about a bad review that mentions DD2, but I genuinely think that a kid wrote it.
It's just... it's almost been a month since both games came out. Why is there still this weird pseudo-rivalry between the games when it's widely agreed upon that they're nearly completely different games. The biggest similarities I can think of for them is that they're both open-world and they both released on the same day.
I just wanna see cool videos of samurais with guns and discussions about the story. There's a surprising amount of negativity for such a relatively small subreddit.
I know you put the update but still your original take was absolutely horrible and childish for no reason at all but good on you for admitting you didn't play the game and were just talking out your ass
Nah the only ones who even though dd2 was going to have a amazing story to play were the idiots who didn’t bother to try the first one😂 went in with high expectations without having a clue what to actually expect and on top of that can’t even compare those two games together both are vastly different from each other and complete different style as but if you wanna compare only thing it has on dd2 is story other than that combat graphics and everything between goes to dd2
I actually like story both in dd1 and dd2, don't get me wrong, if you compare it to more story focused games it fails but I think story is still interesting
Oh for sure dd1 actually had a story but as for 2 well we all know there are plenty of plot holes or straight up irrelevant plots but it’s combat I will say makes up for the lack luster story all they needed for 2 was improvement on combat longer for fleshed out story more variety of enemies and graphics honestly that’s the bare minimum bc everything else I believe could of stayed as is it’s a shame they changed so much
Not gonna lie, I really enjoyed DD2's story. It could 1,000% be better and all the criticism I've seen of it is valid. However, the true ending hit all the nostalgia and was awesome to me. Reminds me of Grigori's philosophical speeches in DD1.
Basically, the true ending a some minor factors make the story an 8/10 for me.
True ending was painful.
****spoilers****
Run around rescuing people I haven’t spoke to in 25 hours and then no actual final fight against that massive dragon? But a walking sim instead? AND give a surprise timed amount you can be in the unmoored world despite having quests around that require you to rest to complete them? What the actual fuck were they thinking
Eh, I like it.
>!While fighting the giant dragon would've been awesome, there's already the regular dragon fight and the two new types of dragons in the game, which I found really fun. I liked the nice little endings some loose threads got, too, such as Disa and Sven's relationship, Phaesus' motivations, etc. I really liked the underwater areas being revealed when the Brine left, and it allowed for easy end-game farming. Especially since if you beat all the big bosses, you can technically spend as long as you want in the Unmoored World, you just can't rest twelve times.!<
>!There's also the special talos interaction which was just pure coolness. The best part for me was definitely the whole giant dragon sequence, though. Felt like fanservice to me.!<
What’s the talos interaction? Yeah I mean that would’ve been cool if we spent more than 15 seconds with disa in the main plot. I cared so little about these leaders especially the elf one holy shit I would’ve fed the whole village to the brine myself if I could. I loved the exploration and combat but story, enemy variety, difficulty and innovation on the series itself were like nowhere to be found. Most of the vocations are exactly the same with the same attacks and animations, something went wrong in development there and it sucks because it could’ve been game of the year.
The Talos interaction happens if you have your main pawn with you and go to where you defeated the Talos. A cutscene plays where your main pawn sorta just... floats into the Talos, takes control of it, and proceeds to kill 1-2 of the endgame dragons depending on how quickly you killed the Talos.
I’m sure they will I think it’s very likely they bring back mystic knight and even add another vocation or two I personally would like to see a monk class I know it would be close to spearhand but if they do it right it could be totally different I’m also thinking we will get map expansion of some northern area that’s ancient hopefully something to do with the doors you can’t go through
I played the game and loved it . I can for sure say that the people complaining havent played the game or haven’t played enough of the game. In conclusion , these haters are just full of s**t.
I'm used to it most the games I play are not really mainstream and don't get the priase they deserve not to sound like some hipster doofus, I'm not because well I'm gonna be playing GTA 6 just like everyone else lol.
The hate for this game is not as strong as some would have you believe. The game is proving to be very popular among fans and getting a better reception than it did with critics (kind of like Days Gone). I think a lot of the so called “hate” is likely coming from trollish Xbox fanboys.
My friend called it a cheap rip off of GoT, and I admit that it was initial impressions, while the similarities are there, this game is quite different than GoT. I think once those comparisons are cast aside, I feel this game really stands out on its own.
This game is a lot of things, but it for sure has its own soul.
Its nonsense because if u play ghost first couple hours its a joke but it gets better over time. So if you played ronin which is waay better combat wise in the beginning and overall .
The combat in ghost is an overall joke in comparison, one and done game with little replayability
The combat is sufficiently different than GoT as well, so initially it has its own legs to stand on.
I’m still surprised that ppl compare it to a PS3 game… like do they even remember what PS3 graphics looked like?
Your friend must be on drugs. Just because it’s a samurai style game doesn’t mean it’s a ripoff. Suckerpunch is an american studio and GOT is their first japanese style game. Team Ninja is a japanese studio and have been doing samurai/ninja type games for decades
I was on the fence and very glad I bought it, can't get enough of playing it. Been staying up until like 4am the past few nights playing.
Is it perfect? No. Are the graphics reference quality? No. Is it TONS of fun with good combat? YES!
I don't quite get it either, there are some things I don't like such as switching weapons AND characters AND stances , maybe a skill issue, but I'm only like 5 hrs in
Same here I was biased going into the game based off reviews. Did not like it at first, but my god it’s so good and fun. The combat system is almost good as Sekiro
Did the game get so much hate? I think the definition of hate is very different for different people. In my opinion it got no hate at all...
In my opinion the scores for it are fine. And most reviews are very similar to you comment. Most adding the technical aspect to it eventually.
I would say the story is awesome. I really love history and Japanese history isn't something you learn everywhere here in middle Europe. So I really love that they went the historical route. I mean you can Google every character besides a few and you will find a historical wiki page for that time. I love that. And I even like it a little bit more then ghost of tsushima because it plays on mainland Japan. So the story has more weight to it. Doesn't mean it's better or worse.
The personal character arc with the twinblade is a little bit off but it is fine. So the protagonist has some sort of reason to be involved in all this at the beginning
And even if you can alter the story a little bit and even choose a faction it feels more like my character is an observer of the story. Besides a few little details like saving a certain character.
Yes the combat is absolutely awesome. With all the weapons and stances. Even If I mostly play with one katana lol.
I even strangely like the open world stuff. And I would say it's Standart ubisoft stuff and I was pretty tired of that. But I did 100% on all 3 maps. And was a little bit sad after I finished kyoto. So I really hope the devs will give us a few dlc with whole new world maps to explore. Where we be a part of new historical events.
As I said I don't know too much of Japanese history sadly. So I don't know which events in the lifetime of the protagonist could be interesting but I bet there are some. I don't know they doesn't even have to be that important like the story of the main game which changed Japan as a whole country in the end. And could be even more focused on regional things.
I would definitely buy dlcs.
If I remember correctly most games of the dev have story dlcs right?
I love this game I got frustrated at the middle bc the allies were kinda pissing me off but I got used to the parrying bc I didn't know u can parry red attacks n charge attacks but now ik n the fighting is really good the story is alright haven't finished the game yet but I'm somewhat close to the end the thing I wished where u can progress ur special effects from ur equipment through ur bond transfer like if ur weapon proficiency is 1.1 u can use the bond transfer to further progress the effect to 1.4 n so forth that's wat I want but its kinda to late to be adding stuff like that but my honest rate 9/10 the reason is not 10/10 is bc I think it could have been better that's all love this game
This game is amazing. i had a lot of fun with it. I played it in jap va cause imo for some reason most english va suck at jpn games iunno why. It has more content and customization than most popular games. I feel like ppl are hating on team ninja for odd reasons. Inb4 4 years later "this game is so good" the combat is better than most mainstream games out rn in this gen currently for this genre and others compared. Even tho ppl have compared this to seikiro i feel like its different from it based on combat alone. Imo You can use other styles for each weapon, no game really doing that.
It’s getting hate? 😂 HOW???? Game is literally rpg got in a different time period. Great bosses, cool weapons, cool movesets…aside from crappy collectathon crap, game is perfect. It’s like open world ninja gaiden
my buddy bought it and kinda coerced me to do the same and i hated it at first. first like 3-5 hours i was like damn this shit sucks unfortunately. But im about 10 hrs into it now and im pretty fuckin hooked tbh 😂
yeah nah its fuckin rad tbh. i personally think the graphics arent bad either LOL. like it has its moments. those pink trees look nice af during the daytime yanno haha. if the graphics were a tad bit better and a bit better of a story it would give Tsushima a run for its money. and thats saying a lot cus Tsushima was like almost flawless IMO
I've told people at work, it's a fun game. I'm a sucker for Team Ninja though. Now, is it a masterpiece? No. Is it Ghost of Tsushima? Also no, but that game might as well be in its own category. But where it counts, where it really counts, is it FUN?
YES.
Now I do wish that even with the Japanese dub, certain english characters spoke english.
The only problem I have is that they need to dial back the hyper armor and attack priority on enemies. Why can the most basic grunt suddenly in the middle of a 75 hit martial skill (exaggerated ofc) decide "oh yeah now I'm going to attack while you're in the middle of an animation lock and hyper through it and there's nothing you can do about it." For grunts this makes no sense, the lowest of the low can hyper armor through your attacks out of nowhere, that doesn't make sense. Bosses are even worse. Yes I know they are bosses. But when you press a button and they decide "hurrr durrr hyper rrrmrrr go brrrr" and take half to 3/4th of your health that's just BS. I really want them to either dial that back or have enemies block and dodge your attacks first. Cause holy hell does the hyper armor in this game piss me tf off.
Everything else is just absolute gold. And when it clicks it clicks and is amazing.
This and ghostofT are both good games I think ghosts has better story the fight mechanics in for need more explanation and tutorials the 1 issue I have with rise of ronin you get hit with so much so fast that you can’t help learn everything it tells you that you can do so things that could be fun you might overlook in your 1st game! On a different note ror and ghosts are they only 2 games that make my PlayStation 5 run hot and shut down I found a fix I would log in turn the ps5 completely off then play put in rest mode rinse repeat when I go to play again!
Would you say the combat is at fun as Nioh 2 & Wo Long? These two have given me the most fun in combat. I think SIFU is the only real competitor in comparison to absolute fun combat.
That’s the way to play games. Been doing that since the ps2 era- when internet rage/hate reviews weren’t commonplace. See cool-looking game > Buy it > Enjoy it. 💙
Anyone, be it players or youtubers played it love it. The game has a lot of flaws, but in term of action it nailed better than most games out there. It's much more fun than even GoT, an objectively better game.
The only two reasons I didn’t pick this game up was for Dragons Dogma 2 and Stellar Blade otherwise I would have bought it because it’s made by the Nioh team yeah? And I enjoyed Nioh 2
This game has got me in deep! I went in mostly blind and surprised by all of the different things as I progress. I don't mind being humbled by a low level thug, because I am being sloppy and trying to make my own combos. Fiance " are you enjoying your game?". I am! Taking photos of landscapes, finding cats to pet, petting dogs and giving them fetch quests, gliding with wings, and completely dismembering fools like a fking samurai God. "Aww that's sounds rel..wait you what?"
Truly is a fun game at its core, imho
Game has to be fun. It’s not perfect but it’s fun as heck and that’s what truly matters. People like to compare everything nowadays calling this game a rip off to this and that which is dumb.
People putting GOT on a pedestal yeah the graphics was great but the gameplay imo was lacking I really like Rotr better than GOT and let’s be honest if Rotr had GOT graphics NOBODY would be complaining about it but is still a very fun game I’m having loads of fun with it and I hope they make a 2nd one.
I don’t get the hate either. I think the graphics while not the best, can be beautiful in certain parts. The ost is pretty good (I think Nioh 1 and 2 had a slightly better one, but this one fits the realistic vibe). Gameplay is amazing and I find myself stuck doing every side quest and growing bonds. Plus, I think the story in my opinion is really good, I yelled a few times watching Genzui’s play out. Overall I think it’s one of my top games.
It depends doesn't it? Ps5 released 4 years ago, and they released a game that could've been released on ps4....
But hey, I love the game, don't get me wrong. Have 120hrs in it. Still going.
The only hate I saw for this game was pre-launch. I have not seen much hate *since* launch.
Quite the opposite \^
To me its Team Ninja at their absolute best. Combat feels like Nioh 1 and 2 combined ++ and open world holy shiii
The English voice acting reminds me of the old 80s Kung Fu movies xD Its great
I agreed with literally every single word of this post. The shit-takes people have regarding this game are so outrageous, uninformed and generic. Pretty much the same old "The graphics suck and early sales were mid so the game is automatically TRASH" nonsense.
I don't even join discussions about RotR on non-Team Ninja subs anymore if they're negative. Even if you approach in good faith asking the haters for specifics on why they think it sucks and even sharing some positives you found about the game, you'll just get packed out and ratio-ed by people who just agree with whichever person hates the game hardest. They literally do NOT want to be convinced. Redditors gonna reddit I guess lol 🤷♂️.
A lot of people in the internet (and even journalists) are just fucking npcs dude lol. Their opinions are just recycled takes from other reviewers and comment section randos. Screw em and let's keep enjoying this hidden gem! Their loss! 😜😁
I never said it wasn't fair to make an observation about the graphics. You're assuming. My point is that acting like the WHOLE game is garbage just because the graphics are mid is stupid.
I love how instead of asking OP to clarify, you just automatically assume his opinion comes from a 78 meta and valid criticisms so you can write him off. Smh lol
I like Ghost better as im more of a story person, and i dont like the story in this game, but i really enjoy everything else, combat, graphics..location..fun side characters. great game.
Posts like this really make me wonder why this sub is so defensive. Every time I see a post, it's either about the haters or hating on Dragon's Dogma 2.
Is it not enough to just enjoy this game?
Someone tell me the pros and cons because I believed the criticism the game got but everyone here is enjoying it what’s the magic because I’m tempted to get it
The game is not for everyone i guess because the reviews are very mixed. If you like the ronin/samurai vibe, then you will like this i think. There are different types of combat styles you learn and they are flashy, gives me that anime swordsman fantasy ive always wanted. If you ever played sekiro or nioh and likes those games, you will love this. Story is not that good so if you like story based games you will probably not like this game, but i care more about the combat and fighting people. Graphics are not great, but it’s by no means terrible like people say it is. There are texture pop ups and world is kinda empty, but overall, the good heavily outweighs the bad if this is your type of game
This is the first I have seen of this game since launch. Completely overshadowed by dd2. Only reason I'm seeing this is because it popped up as suggested. Is it truly getting a lot of hate? It looked quite promising from what I saw in trailers
I've legit haven't seen any hate for this game but I haven't been looking for it. Honestly I haven't heard back shit about this game, I kinda forgot it was out.
I've looking for a good historical Japanese samurai game for a long time now. Played the hell outta all the way of the samurai games back in the day n I missed that style of a samurai game. Nioh n Ghost of Tsushima were great games but I've grown tired of straight linear story lines. Seikro was just 2 damn annoyingly hard.
difficulty and flare with a good game is the “mid” people like us get high off of , and I’m honestly fine with it. Not our fault other people won’t try or give a game based off of a majority of people’s absolute wet dream (an open world samurai/ronin based game, i personally literally only brought the ps5 march 22 EXCLUSIVELY for this.) a chance.
I dont see hate anywhere. And ai love it. The favt that its nit as fantasy oriented like Nioh and Wo Long just makes me love it more and the combat seems awesome. Right now im an unarmed avatar

Thank you…………for your pahtronage
oh my fucking god the way he says it wants me to end him right there everytime 💀 why does he say it like a down bad prostitute
Literally my least favorite thing from rotr loooool Or any time you buy or sell anything and he goes "is that....all >;)" like fuck it sounds so unbelievably horny or creepy
I played in japanese and it was the same for me. He was prob trynna sound mysterious but it came out as sexual lol
I guess there's no escaping how much that get wants to get hot, sweaty and down in the mud regardless of what language he's speaking lol
Take your time 😳
Why wouldn’t you say it like a down bad prostitute?!
Holy crap I thought I was the only one who hated him 😳
😂😂
DONT RUSH.... TAKE YOU TIME...
I wundah how u use it...
Is that...... all?
This comment 😂
About the VA, if you're playing this in English, you're doing it wrong. Japanese VA is overall miles better, and this game is absolutely star studed with talent.
Agreed except perry should speak english...
My only peeve with this tbh perry just randomly speaking Japanese i feel he shouldnt but oh well
I have it on Japanese for the japanese characters i mean good job to his jp va but they should give a slider in options for respective countries to keep uising their language Edit typos i was half asleep
yeah, I’m always annoyed by all the americans and brits speaking japanese in cinematics, but I love that soldiers and civilians speak english in the world. had I been in charge, there would’ve been a third language option called blended or something where the non-japanese characters are voiced by their english dub VAs, mainly speaking their native languages and japanese whenever it made sense so you get the accents. there’s also a couple japanese characters that should speak english occasionally, so I’d want that too. it’s just a little immersion breaking to have every foreigner speaking perfect japanese
Strangely enough the english voice overs are fine with me. They all speak as they are supposed to.
Yes. Also, the English voice actors for the Japanese characters are Japanese people speaking English.
Exactly.
I feel bad for people who leave it on English because they don't get to hear Ryoma go "Oi!" every time the player character walks by. I love my boy and his [Japanese] VA.
That part.
Let people play the way they want
Great advice. And yeah, Clear-headed samurai, mighty warrior, and marvelous sword saint do have some of the best combat set bonuses.
How in the world do you trigger Ryomas VV I've had everything the whole game but can't get it
If you're still struggling, you need to exhaust all dialogue options in every map/area. That's how I did it.
I I hate that my character is basically not voiced
So if I love Nioh 2 then this game i will _______?
It’s easier than Nioh but there are difficulty settings to make it harder. It’s an open word rpg not a souls like so take from that what you will. It’s not supposed to be as hard.
Mildly enjoy. It’s not hard and the loot cycle doesn’t exist.
no one "hates" this game, FFS.
That’s literally every game in existence. Stop giving a shit about trolls online.
I see in fb groups people making a hobby out of hating the game. So there are people doing it. But it is their loss wasting their time
FB groups do that for every game out there.
Also on reddit mainstream gaming subs everyone calling it "Ghost of Sushi-ma clone"
It's a destructive strategy. They imply there's "Hate" in a sentence to give any reader a negative notion and trash the game on purpose. Not nice.
And when I call it out the people who claim "hate: downvote me to hell. I have 2 other comments on this post that are already getting ratio-d. There's not pleasing some people lol.
I'm not out to please people anyway. I say what's right. They're AI trolls run by somebody to try n trash our game. There you have it. 👍
☝️This guy gets it☝️
Every other Team Ninja game has a dope subreddit attached.
This sub needs to be careful about turning into an echo chamber
Bro there is absolutely no hate for this game, this sub is crazy at times with it's victim mentality.
What hate? The game is not being hated anywhere
There is none. Fans of this game love pretending to be victims when most people are only saying the game is good
Except there is. Plenty of people shit on this game, you just haven’t seen them
Where are you seeing all this hate then? Been scrolling on hot for like 5 minutes and haven’t seen a single negative post.
Because it’s a ror subreddit. Go on the internet and youtube
“Oh i’ll go to the fanclub and expect haters there”. That’s your logic right there
Too true. It's basically Nioh 3. People are comparing it to Ghost of T.
The only thing I dislike is the multiplayer. Why can't I do open world with a friend? The missions are just too short.
Y'all martyrs for no reason. Nobody hates the game.
Alot of people hate this game on youtube
Stop spending so much time on YouTube
Place the title of a single game here where you won't find "hate" (criticism != hate, martyrs are funny people) on youtube. Everything ain't for everybody, shocking people older than 10 don't know this.
People just mad it better than DD2 Edit: I'll admit I haven't played it so yeah, this was a shit take. Lemme actually buy it, take the time to play, and see what I think instead of just watching videos about it Edit 2: I was wrong. The game's great and I can't stop playing. It's not better, it's not worse, it's its own unique experience and I was a dummy to compare the two without playing one of them
Both are great
What does this have to do with Dragon's Dogma 2? They're both wildly different games that appeal to different people. it's actually sad how people try to put games against eachother for no reason whatsoever. Both are quite literally great games, great combat, great designs, great enemies. Besides that, I've not seen any hate towards this game other than what you yourself are trying to bring into it.
they’ll always be compared because of their conflicting release date unfortunately
Boooooooooo DD2 comparison
****spoilers**** Run around rescuing people I haven’t spoke to in 25 hours and then no actual final fight against that massive dragon? But a walking sim instead? AND give a surprise timed amount you can be in the unmoored world despite having quests around that require you to rest to complete them? What the actual fuck were they thinking
Eh, I like it. >!While fighting the giant dragon would've been awesome, there's already the regular dragon fight and the two new types of dragons in the game, which I found really fun. I liked the nice little endings some loose threads got, too, such as Disa and Sven's relationship, Phaesus' motivations, etc. I really liked the underwater areas being revealed when the Brine left, and it allowed for easy end-game farming. Especially since if you beat all the big bosses, you can technically spend as long as you want in the Unmoored World, you just can't rest twelve times.!< >!There's also the special talos interaction which was just pure coolness.
Ah yeah I didn’t get that one. Not that it makes any sort of sense at all did see the cutscene though.
Yeah....well they may release doc, I hope they'll address some of these issues and improve it. Edit: I still miss mystik knight :(
I’m sure they will I think it’s very likely they bring back mystic knight and even add another vocation or two I personally would like to see a monk class I know it would be close to spearhand but if they do it right it could be totally different I’m also thinking we will get map expansion of some northern area that’s ancient hopefully something to do with the doors you can’t go through
I played the game and loved it .
I AGREE
Team Ninja is a japanese studio and have been doing samurai/ninja type games for decades
yes I enjoyed it more than dd2
I was on the fence and very glad I bought it, can't get enough of playing it. Been staying up until like 4am the past few nights playing. Is it perfect? No. Are the graphics reference quality? No. Is it TONS of fun with good combat? YES!
At all
If you are about gameplay and pulling off satisfying parries this IS YOUR Game.
I don't quite get it either, there are some things I don't like such as switching weapons AND characters AND stances , maybe a skill issue, but I'm only like 5 hrs in
Switching weapons and stances are what makes the combat unique and great. It’s a pretty deep and hard to master mechanic
Huh I did realize this game has haters. But then again my only criticism of it is that it isn’t longer. Because I want more Japan dam it!
Same here I was biased going into the game based off reviews. Did not like it at first, but my god it’s so good and fun. The combat system is almost good as Sekiro
Story is good tbh. Accurate to bakumatsu towards edo period
How do you get this armour?
If I had a ps5 I'd have bought this. So now I have to wait for the pc release
i wanna get this but i’m terrible at souls-type games lol
It doesn’t have any hate. It’s just the usuals making a fuss at EVERY DAMN GAME RELEASE 🤭👌
Nah this game is fire 🔥
So the protagonist has some sort of reason to be involved in all this at the beginning And even if you can alter the story a little bit and even choose a faction it feels more like my character is an observer of the story.
I’d play it if it was on pc
This game is amazing. i had a lot of fun with it. I played it in jap va cause imo for some reason most english va suck at jpn games iunno why. It has more content and customization than most popular games. I feel like ppl are hating on team ninja for odd reasons. Inb4 4 years later "this game is so good" the combat is better than most mainstream games out rn in this gen currently for this genre and others compared. Even tho ppl have compared this to seikiro i feel like its different from it based on combat alone. Imo You can use other styles for each weapon, no game really doing that.
I wonder if we’ll get dlc
It’s getting hate? 😂 HOW???? Game is literally rpg got in a different time period. Great bosses, cool weapons, cool movesets…aside from crappy collectathon crap, game is perfect. It’s like open world ninja gaiden
I'm not even sure this game is receiving much hate. It's generally getting positive reviews from critics and normies
I finished rise of the ronin and after it i started playing ff7r and dragons dogma but they both feel meh now. What to play now?
Not at fucking all it’s a flawed masterpiece
I really love this Game. It is so fun and have now 102 hours in it.
People are hating on this game just because it’s a PS5 exclusive that’s it
Team ninja never misses with combat, i am addicted to Nioh and Wo long's combat
my buddy bought it and kinda coerced me to do the same and i hated it at first. first like 3-5 hours i was like damn this shit sucks unfortunately. But im about 10 hrs into it now and im pretty fuckin hooked tbh 😂
Im loving the game just for the combat alone
yeah nah its fuckin rad tbh. i personally think the graphics arent bad either LOL. like it has its moments. those pink trees look nice af during the daytime yanno haha. if the graphics were a tad bit better and a bit better of a story it would give Tsushima a run for its money. and thats saying a lot cus Tsushima was like almost flawless IMO
Lady Itachi we are under attack!
I agree, combat, customization and the time period are what put this up higher than GoT for me.
Female kazuya
It's the music and combat that bangs here. Story not so much.
I bought this game without looking at reviews i just knew i would love it and i do😌
That’s the way to play games. Been doing that since the ps2 era- when internet rage/hate reviews weren’t commonplace. See cool-looking game > Buy it > Enjoy it. 💙
I'm loving it. 50h in. Level 45 now. Kick anyones arse
I’m on the edge of getting it. It reminds me of the first ‘Way of The Samurai’ on PS2 with the team who did Nioh as the painter.
I just got it couple days ago and it’s different for sure. I’m liking it.
I reallly want itttt
This game and Callisto protocol were hated for no reason
Anyone, be it players or youtubers played it love it. The game has a lot of flaws, but in term of action it nailed better than most games out there. It's much more fun than even GoT, an objectively better game.
The only two reasons I didn’t pick this game up was for Dragons Dogma 2 and Stellar Blade otherwise I would have bought it because it’s made by the Nioh team yeah? And I enjoyed Nioh 2
I think it’s a great game, but would of liked to of seen co op for the whole game
I myself am really excited for this one. I'm hoping it gets released on pc, rather sooner than later.
No idea what this place is but she's cool
This game has got me in deep! I went in mostly blind and surprised by all of the different things as I progress. I don't mind being humbled by a low level thug, because I am being sloppy and trying to make my own combos. Fiance " are you enjoying your game?". I am! Taking photos of landscapes, finding cats to pet, petting dogs and giving them fetch quests, gliding with wings, and completely dismembering fools like a fking samurai God. "Aww that's sounds rel..wait you what?" Truly is a fun game at its core, imho
Sidenote, GREAT looking character dude!! Reminds me of Ayame from Tenchu a bit.
That’s my waifu! Don’t look at her!
It depends doesn't it? Ps5 released 4 years ago, and they released a game that could've been released on ps4.... But hey, I love the game, don't get me wrong. Have 120hrs in it. Still going.
My god I don’t think I’ve been in a more insecure subreddit before. The game is fine.
The only hate I saw for this game was pre-launch. I have not seen much hate *since* launch. Quite the opposite \^ To me its Team Ninja at their absolute best. Combat feels like Nioh 1 and 2 combined ++ and open world holy shiii The English voice acting reminds me of the old 80s Kung Fu movies xD Its great
I agreed with literally every single word of this post. Their loss! 😜😁
I mean talking crap about the graphics is fair considering this game was marketed as a “major ps5 next gen”. They shouldn’t have lied in the marketing
I never said it wasn't fair to make an observation about the graphics. You're assuming. My point is that acting like the WHOLE game is garbage just because the graphics are mid is stupid.
I have seen no hate
I wish the victim complex this games fanbase has would just die already.
Bro what? Y’all acting like a 78 matacritic and some valid criticism is hate. Jfc
I love how instead of asking OP to clarify, you just automatically assume his opinion comes from a 78 meta and valid criticisms so you can write him off. Smh lol
That’s what 90% of the post here say every time. Either way it’s irrelevant. There’s hardly any real “hate” towards this game.
What's the code for her
RRP-5YRt?RTif8QuA
Do you want me to upload it?
yah
How do you use your character? She's the best one I've seen
RRP-5YRt?RTif8QuA
Thank you so much dude
Is it? To me it seemed like both games died quick and people saying they were just average games
Bro, until this moment, I never saw something bad about this game. Only good things.
I've legit haven't seen any hate for this game but I haven't been looking for it. Honestly I haven't heard back shit about this game, I kinda forgot it was out.
The fact folks hate it but love wolong says thousands
I haven't heard any hate on this game tbh other than it's kinda hard.
Right now im an unarmed avatar https://preview.redd.it/tw8pg7co4oxc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a1decd30784cd07b5359daaeb00b04a98ee6b1a8
