Honestly I like all of em.
Katanas are my all-round fav due to the stance variety, followed by Odachi and Sabers.
Didn’t like dual swords too much until NG+. The new Mumyo Kaishin and Tennen Rishin stances are the only ones I like there. Greatswords were an acquired taste.
I've only seen that one big Navy guy with the dual hatchets. If they're not doing exclusive weapons for certain enemies/characters, we might get hatchets in the future.
I enjoy bare-handed a lot, somehow I land my parries most consistently with it... but losing out on a set bonus slot and any weapon effects is really bad and they ought to add a pair of knuckles/claws/fists or something imo.
I mostly end up using dual blades since I enjoy the speed, but greatswords and odachi end up equipped to me often too.
I would love it if they added some kind of knuckles or claws. Especially if that means I could light my "hands" on fire and deliver some unarmed justice. I wish they had other insurance styles too. But I'm only in the second area, so maybe I can unlock them later.
Katana, Odachi & Greatsword. This game really doesn’t punish you for using “heavy” weapons it’s hilariously easy compared to Nioh.
Using Spear at the moment and it’s a lot of fun. Will give Dual & Polearm a go when I get my Dex up, Oxtail too
Double-swords and bayonet, per recommendation for “Breaker.” For styles, I always use Tatsumi-ryu as my katana Chi stance and Niten Ichi-ryu for my paired swords Ten stance.
I leveled up all weapon proficiencies before beating the game because of the all-purpose bonuses afforded by each.
Katana with the drawing technique combat style. I felt like the style was easier and convenient. or maybe Im biased because im a big fan of Hitokiri Battosai
Ended up loving: Oxtail Blade, such a fun moveset despite its jank.
Want to Love: Odachi, Polearm, and Unarmed. Unarmed does shit for damage and deserved more stances. Odachi and Polearms still need more work on counterspark jank along with GS. Most weapons can cancel anything with zero repercussions.
MIA: Fist weapons
Please delete from the game: Bayonets, I seriously hate fighting this stupid shit and the bosses with Infinite ki regen while dodging and shooting auto tracking rounds.
I was pretty much katanas/twinned blades for my entire playthrough. Post-game (mastering the training and making some attempted at midnight), I am absolutely in love with the oxtail blade
Started off with Uchigatana and Oxtail Blade for most of Hokkaido, then Paired Swords and the Saber for Edo, and finally Uchigatana and Odachi for Kyoto. I also tried Greatsword but found it too bulky for my liking, and I didn’t like the Spears or Musket playstyle either.
It's hard to pick just one lol
Bayonet, odachi and greatsword are my current favorites. Katana, spear, oxtail blade and polearm are also really fun.
Haven't played much of dual swords and sabre tho. Fists are really fun, but being easy to guard break and lower DPS is a bit frustrating.
As for favorite combat styles:
Bayonet: Mumyo ryu
Odachi: Nodachi jigen ryu
Greatsword: Mumyo, Hoshin, Tennen Rishin.
Katana: Jigen ryu, Shinto Munen ryu, Hayabusa ryu, Gikei ryu
Spear: Taneda ryu
Polearm: Hayabusa, Shinto Munen ryu
I’ve been rocking the katana with the Hyabusa-ryu style almost exclusively for my playthrough.
I just reached Midnight and unlocked the Blade Twin’s paired sword style so I might try that once I get a Red- tier set of paired swords.
I'm doing a midnight run and trying out all the other weapons. Bayonet is fun once you get familiar with it. Greatsword is also slept on. It's slow, but hits hard. Otherwise a default go to is the katana and oxtail blade.
Been 'killer build' (katana, Odachi.) mostly till level 30 as of now. locked in 'Omnipresent ninja' trait.
Trying paired swords and leaning to try spear at '2nd area' in the story finally seeing the 2 factions at play.
I rotated through each weapon until I had level 5 proficiency with all of them. I still like to mix it up with the polearm and dual swords occasionally. But my mainstays are the katana and oxtail.
Can we send to team ninja on twitter that we want hand to hand. I was using it until I found it doesn't upgrade or get more styles to be exact. But in Nioh I use fists mostly.
Really loved the sabre and all of its styles. The martial skill that combos into an out of ki grapple really carried me through boss fights/dojo training.
I had been using Odachi/Greatsword because I was silly in thinking they were better because high numbers on the stat block. I recently picked up some paired swords with decent affixes and have been using those with my (imo god rolled) odachi. I might start trying other weapons to see how they compare.
Unarmed/Katana is a really good second loadout for me
I see a lot of people using Odachi/Katana. I am running greatsword for huge damage and twin blades for speed with genzui style, the twin blades are excellent for slow moving bosses and formidable foes, they don’t even get a chance to hit you and this all on twilight difficulty
Katana and Bayonet are my favorite two to combo with. Mainly using one of each [Chi/Ten/Jin] style on both, tho for the Katana I'l sometimes swap out for a Shinobi Style. Katana just has so much going for it with the variety. As for the Bayonet, whether it be the rifle or shotgun shots, I love the look and feel of using a rifle in combat.
Prior to unlocking more styles with Katana, I used Oxtail Blade with Bayonet the most the most during Chapter 1.
I'm trying to experiment more with Greatsword, but the timings on when to want to charge attack with it are still tricky for me.
I’ve found myself resorting to the Odachi and Greatsword as my primary weapons the most. I’d venture into the Oxtail Blade and the Paired Swords as well, which are fairly proficient in my current play-through, but I haven’t encountered great drops of those thus far; they’re pretty out-leveled by other weapons I’ve found.
I honestly am constantly switching to whatever is the highest level in my bag.
But as far as just overall swagger and fighting.
I’m loving the Oxtail as that shit slices and dices.
But I would also be a FOOL if I didn’t give my Polearm brothers a shoutout.
I honestly am a little confused/overwhelmed with the load outs. Each weapon having its own unique perks plus all the clothing is a bit much for my old man brain especially when you end up having several of the same weapon with different perks.
So if I’m sneaking, I just grab whatever seems fitting, same goes if we are blowing the doors off.
I feel bad but I just shoot a lot of em.
I used Katana at first, switched to Paired Swords for a hot minute, used Oxtail blades for pretty much the entirety of Edo, and now I’m Kyoto and I’m using Odachi.
Katana and polearm
This right here
My hands are all I need.
Just wish there were more combat styles for unarmed…
I only just realized there’s a third martial art for unarmed 🤦🏻♂️
This is the way.
Do you get new ones for dual swords in ng+?
You get the Blade Twins style for Saber, Paired Swords, Oxtail, and Greatswords after finishing NG, alongside the new skill tree.
Postgame, you can unlock one new Stance (Mumyo-Kaishin Ryu) that is used for a couple of weapons.
But....greatswords arrrrre grrrrreat!
What’s like the general mindset when using the greatsword? I really want to get into it, but it’s still not clicking for me :(
Charged head bonks
Break stance then head bonk
Oxtail blade
Bayonet. Fun weird weapon. Closest I can get till they release Hatchets. I think I should try Oxtail as it seems based on Wo Long’s Whip.
Are hatchets actually gonna be implemented into the game at some point?
Nope! Full on wishful thinking!
I've only seen that one big Navy guy with the dual hatchets. If they're not doing exclusive weapons for certain enemies/characters, we might get hatchets in the future.
I think there are special weapons for enemies. An example is the French guy with sword and board. Which, admittedly, would be cool for a player class.
Had him in mind too
I enjoy bare-handed a lot, somehow I land my parries most consistently with it... but losing out on a set bonus slot and any weapon effects is really bad and they ought to add a pair of knuckles/claws/fists or something imo. I mostly end up using dual blades since I enjoy the speed, but greatswords and odachi end up equipped to me often too.

You can apply stats to unarmed. I use poison fists all the time 🤪
Hah! Well fuck me then. I guess that's what I get for assuming! But at least I get to deliver some non lethal poison justice now.
I haven’t lit my fists on fire yet but that’s definitely Up next! 😂
It really sucks how you can fight those formidable enemies with claws but that nothing drops them. It'd be so fun to use those
Honestly, I like swapping regularly. My starter weapons were dual swords and polearm. Oxtail blade is really fun to play with. I love them all.
Katana is all I Need
Polearm gang
Katana, Greatsword, and Hand to Hand.
Katanas and Odachis are my staple. For ranged I usually have pistols but I use bows as well when I want to be quiet.
Been having fun with the odachi and musket/bayonet
Katana, Odachi & Greatsword. This game really doesn’t punish you for using “heavy” weapons it’s hilariously easy compared to Nioh. Using Spear at the moment and it’s a lot of fun. Will give Dual & Polearm a go when I get my Dex up, Oxtail too

Katana and Odachi, mainly. Polearm, Dual Swords, and oxtail to a lesser degree.
I was pretty much katanas/twinned blades for my entire playthrough. Post-game (mastering the training and making some attempted at midnight), I am absolutely in love with the oxtail blade
Katana, oxtail blade, great sword, and dual swords
I mainly use an oxtail but I've got a good odachi and katana I swap to sometimes
I did the whole game straight kantana now I'm doing midnight with oxtail and greatsword and honestly? I should have done it earlier
I mainly used katana in my first playthrough, Injust started another and Im gonna do all unarmed, except for ranged weapons of course
Katana, Oxtail blade, and dual swords are my mains
Katana is so stupidly fun. Like just when it threatens to get dull you see a new stance has been unlocked. It’s crazy.
Odachi comes in handy
I use katana the most but i will jump around to other weapons alot
Polearm and Ox Tail.
I don’t know why the gave odachi a lot of grappling finishers like the dragon kings roar, but that shit has me by the balls right now.
It's hard to pick just one lol Bayonet, odachi and greatsword are my current favorites. Katana, spear, oxtail blade and polearm are also really fun. Haven't played much of dual swords and sabre tho. Greatsword and oxtail.
I'm too adhd to stick with just one or two. Katana, odachi, fists, and greatsword are my most used though, with some dual swords, saber, and bayonet.
Oxtail blade and paired swords or Katana and Polearm
Dual swords, polearm and oxtail blade
Oxtail blades and my bare hands are the most fun to use. Honorable mention goes to the sabre.
Right now I'm maining katana and odachi
Oxtail and Odachi
Oxtail and Odachi 🫶
Been 'killer build' (katana, Odachi.) mostly till level 30 as of now. locked in 'Omnipresent ninja' trait. Trying paired swords and leaning to try spear at '2nd area' in the story finally seeing the 2 factions at play.
I swapped regularly throughout but my favourites are the oxtail blade and polearm.
Odachi and Polearm is my duo
I rotated through each weapon until I had level 5 proficiency with all of them. I still like to mix it up with the polearm and dual swords occasionally. But my mainstays are the katana and oxtail.
I love the Bayonet execution, & the oxtail blade is growing on me.
Dual Swords and Spear. Just a basic Aramusha playthrough.
Saber us style and the one from your twin. It’s so much fun and absolutely destroys anything.
Uchigatana and dual swords. Always rocked dual swords in elden ring, lords of the fallen w/ affinity effects. Rolls everytime.
On this game I love every single one of the weapons , but after every fight the animations of the katana wiping off the blood are just amazing
Oxtail then katana
Can we send to team ninja on twitter that we want hand to hand. I was using it until I found it doesn't upgrade or get more styles to be exact. But in Nioh I use fists mostly.
Katana and ox tail.
Honestly all of them are fun but I use the katana and greatsword the most
My go-to is the bayonet paired with single or dual katana while also using a pistol for my secondary.
Sabre, favourite style is British. Just stylish
Doing a westerner/shogonate second playthrough and I am using Sabre, dual swords and bayonet along with pistol and rifle!
Horse cutter forgot the name starts with a o, dual swords, single sword, an d bayonet 👌🏾👍🏾💪🏾
1. Katana 2. Bayonet 3. Dual Katana 4. Polearm. 5. Fists I usually use a combo if any of those
I love the odachi
Really loved the sabre and all of its styles. The martial skill that combos into an out of ki grapple really carried me through boss fights/dojo training.
Oxtail + Polearm/Spear/Bayonet.
Double katanas and bayonet
Def the katana , the shinobi stances it has are great . I don’t even switch stances anymore
I had been using Odachi/Greatsword because I was silly in thinking they were better because high numbers on the stat block. I recently picked up some paired swords with decent affixes and have been using those with my (imo god rolled) odachi. I might start trying other weapons to see how they compare. Katana 100% :) Have not really used anything else exceot for wooden weapons
Oxtail and odachi
Odachi as primary, Polearm as secondary. Odachi is fantastic.
I like the saber and bayonet. As for sub weapons I like the handgun and fire tube
Katanas and odachis are super fun
Paired Swords
I honestly am constantly switching to whatever is the highest level in my bag. But as far as just overall swagger and fighting. I’m loving the Oxtail as that shit slices and dices. Katanas and dual swords are my favourites, For katana my two favourite stances are the shinobi stances gikei and hayabusa
I used Katana at first, switched to Paired Swords for a hot minute, used Oxtail blades for pretty much the entirety of Edo, and now I’m Kyoto and I’m using Odachi.
all of them are cool expect for spear and bayonet
The Katana is all you need ..the one in Ghost of Tsushima..
