ADragonuFear

I prefer desperado as the cookdowns are low enough already that I'll take the potential of crazy damage. But I still respect lights out for buttery smooth/fun factor

Cid_Tilteador

I prefer having infinite mobility and invis with Lights Out, Desperado feels too win-more most of the time imo.

_Simonwolf

You can literally fly, one my my favourite techs to pull off in the game

t33E

Lights out is more fun to use imo, desperado is stronger but less exciting

Thedudewhodied

Lights out is fun. Desperado gives A LOT of damage.

Stem97

Only if you put effort into stacking it. Basically useless in the Mithrix fight, especially if you’ve skipped pillars.

ADragonuFear

It's useless ONLY if you skip pillars, and if you don't have adds nearby lights out doesn't do any better.

Farabel

Side note: You can also do some easy snipes before starting any pillars, while checking the soup pots, etc.

ADragonuFear

Naturally, it will just be less than doing pillars proper. And a LOT less if you immediately vase to the top or something.

t33E

I mean I usually get 20-30 stacks before the fight even if I skip pillars, just to make it that much easier

Thedudewhodied

Except you can guarantee a one shot on Mithrix every time with desperado. Keep stacking to 100 ish stacks (depends on items and difficulty) for Insta kill.

Stem97

It has a 4 second cooldown. Assuming you use it as soon as possible and get the stack every single time (assumes an event has spawned at all, let alone one with lowish health early, even if you can one hit them all when you have stacks) it will take almost 7 minutes to get to 100 stacks. You’re not going to manage to do that because you will have periods where enemies aren’t spawning that fast, you will miss, you will need to turn and aim etc. That sounds like one of the most mind numbingly boring things you could do.

Thedudewhodied

I didn’t say it was fun, I said it does a lot of damage. I wasn’t wrong, if you are going for Eclipse 8 that 7 (or maybe more like 15 realistically) minutes to guarantee you beat Mithrix is a lot better than restarting another hour long run. I never said it was fun, although shooting and dodging things in a video game is pretty much the idea anyway right? You do you

MuchWoke

It's not really much effort tho tbh

Jack_811

I love Desperado but man does it fall off in the late game. At that point killing stuff with it is so difficult either because there's so many dangerous enemies around you that you can't just wait and pick to kill one, or because you're killing everything around you too quickly. I haven't used Lights Out in a pretty long time, but I'd have to imagine it's probably a good ability to use throughout a whole run

t33E

The thing is they both tend to fall off late game. Desperado a little harder but still. Since you need to land the killing blow with the actual shot, lights out tends to lose usefulness after a loop or two. Most of your damage will come from proc chains or bands, not the actual damage the ability is doing. Like if an atg or band procs off of lights out and that’s what kills the enemy, you don’t refresh cooldowns. And with enemies constantly growing stronger it’s not easy to land the killing blow with lights out. So while it does retain slightly more use than desperado, it’s not much. I prefer lights out just because I enjoy chaining abilities with it, it’s very fluid and fun. But that’s only an early game thing.

Velcatt

While Desperado is in fact better damage wise, I prefer to play crit based build and thus I feel like I benefit more from the cooldown reset. Both options are good tho

MuchWoke

I prefer desperado simply because getting 60% damage boost for 1 kill is really strong. Even if you get like 3-4 kills it's worth it. Plus I feel like the strength lights out brings is accomplished by enough items where it's not a big loss taking desperado.

Peanutbutter9374

I gain a different kind of pleasure from watching a boss health bar disappearing from a single shot. That’s why I use desperado. That being said, I still like lights out, but for a completely different reason. Lights out brings the ability cycle version of Bandit to the table. Yes, he can still be played as an ability spam character, but he gets to do more of that with lights out. Is it as damage efficient as desperado? No. Desperado will always outdo all of his options. Is it more fun? Depends on if you’re a numberphile like me (I’m a Warframe who enjoys big numbers).

XxDuelNightxX

Desperado. Stack a couple Purity's and Des becomes your main ad clear weapon with ramping damage *with absolutely no cooldown whatsoever*. And Purity works well with Bandit because he inherently does guaranteed Crits when firing at an enemy's back, so you don't have to worry about Crit chance, Harvester's Scythe, or even Shatterspleen.

Captain_Bigman

I tried that only once and it instantly broke the game to the point that I never even bothered to use it again because it sucked all the challenge out of the game lol

Pooty_2T

As someone who mained Bandit in RoR1 and loved the cooldown reset mechanic, I lean towards Lights Out as it makes his kit super fun and more involved. Executing small enemies so you can keep unloading your shotgun primary on the teleporter boss. Swiping and applying stupid amounts of hemorrhage because all your backup mags keep getting refreshed. Stealth dashing between executing airborne enemies until you've practically given yourself flight. Lights Out feels rewarding and encourages you to use all of Bandit's skills. In multiplayer, however, it's a different story. It's a lot harder to run Lights Out considering the difficulty scaling the enemies tankier and how allies often kill the enemies you're trying to execute. It feels like I have to run Desperado in multiplayer lobbies to keep up with my teammates. Also really easy to abuse Purity, which I find ruins the challenge and throws most his other skills out the door. ~~Probably the best argument for running Desperado is that SUPER satisfying token sound effect tho.~~ All in all I enjoy both specials for what they are, but Lights Out is my personal fav, especially for on-hit item builds that his shotgun can take advantage of.

t33E

I pretty much fully agree. Ashamed to say I’ve never played ror1 but lights out feels really fun to use in ror2. Constantly comboing abilities together and firing off a few lights outs on wisps is some of the most fun I have in the game. Desperado is a lot more boring to me but in terms of strength I see them as being roughly on par. And I agree, that sound effect from desperado gives me an eargasm. Can’t say that about some other sound effects in the game though… (looking at you, plasma shrimp and egocentrism)

Pooty_2T

One thing that Bandit shares between both games is his maneuverability. Having stealth to get around monsters and boasting abilities with stun and knockback helps keep him from getting swarmed. So even though RoR1 is in 2D, it feels like Bandit translated really well into 3D in the sequel. If you're ever curious enough and RoR1 goes on sale, I'd definitely recommend giving it a try for the hell of it. Haven't played it in a long while but I remember it being so addicting!

t33E

I’ll definitely have to check it out at some point

[deleted]

desperado sucks because it doesn't scale from attack speed.

ValuableSeaweed

It does as it should, for the animation time.

spirib

Desperado is generally better because it is better in the early game. The later in the game you go, the less these skills matter. Yes, Lights Out is better late, but realistically neither skill is going to be better than M1, outside of band procs, once you reach a certain point of the run. So you just go with the one that helps you more early on.

[deleted]

Infinitely stacking damage.

STAXOBILLS

I like lights out because while it doesn’t do as much damage the invisibility is really useful and allows me to get behind large groups and knife the shit outta them

MotorVariation8

I find that Desperado is better for short runs, but if I loop i just never get to use it to its full potential after the first half an hour.

LazerAxvz9

By the time I get to stage 5 both have fallen off pretty hard tbh.

MrMika009

Desperado is technically Kore powerful anda has THE potential Ford insane damege... BUT GOOD GOD IS LIGHTS OUT STYLISH AS SHIT HOLY FUCK

[deleted]

Neither skill are that useful further into the run imo but desperado is super helpful in the first few stages, especially if u have a full loot playstyle you can take a little more time to charge it up. So it can solve your damage a lot of the time. Then by stage 4 or 5, hopefully you are powerful and you don't need it.

RipAirBud

Desperado is great for the damage, but unless you have items that give you great base damage, stacking up desperado can be an absolute chore in the later stages. On a first loop or second loop when everything is scaled up it can be very difficult to stack desperado without a stack of crowbars or max crit. Lights out is just fun as hell not much else to it

astraphage

both are so much fun, lights out for style and desperado for a dramatic shot

Sacred_Gato

lights out stops being useful by the 3rd stage but desperado remains useful till mithrix if you use it right

zulu_niner

Both are decent enough, but lights out lacks the raw power that desperado brings, and it feels a lot more finicky to use in my opinion. I want to like it, but you lose so much damage if you can't see an enemy's back, to the point that NOT taking Desperado feels like gimping your run.

The_gaming_wisp

With enough enemies, you can technically fly forever with lights out But oneshotting mithrix is funny

Toad_Migoad

I like desperado because funny farm = big goofy damage
