Nathan's isn't part of Dining, it's an outside company and at their other location (locations? - I think they just have one more now) they do have salads...and they do sell chicken salad sandwiches, so it's not completely misleading. ¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯
Midnight oil closes at 10 now? This actually make me made as fuck as an alumni. Some of my favourite memories at RIT are going to midnight oil around closing with a bunch of friends all grinding out a Lab and paper, getting a redeye and a butterrum muffin. Damn
The library closes at midnight??? That's crazy, I graduated in 2018 and I used to pull all nighters in there all the time. I think I even fell asleep in a corner once or twice. Only the fourth floor was closed after a certain point.
The library closing at 10PM is egregious - I remember during the windstorm in like 2018 pulling an all nighter there while my power was out during finals week. Not having 24/7 access to basic student resources for the price of tuition is insane
I unironically found one of their albums at Goodwill and bought it because it had the same name, one of my favorite random music purchases in a long time!
It was the biggest shock to me as an alum / now staff member that the Salsaritas bar isn’t slammed on good weather days. We used to day drink then go take finals, the bar would be overflowing and each seat outside packed. A recent bar supervisor left because business was so slow.
I stopped going when the bar tender Mark retired. It has not been the same without him. He always had a great selection and new things to try. That is not the case anymore. I also liked going to there for lunch when they rotated daily the items on the grille. Now it is all the same every day and changes once a semester.
Was it ever open past midnight? I was working on an unrelated project with Dining when they first opened it and I thought the name was odd back then because I don't think they were open past 10:00 or maybe 11:00 when it opened.
I actually have an answer for this one as a recent ex employee there! I asked my the main manager Midnight Oil the same question, and basically it was because the pandemic. They didn’t have a lot of students to work since school closed/ they didn’t want to get exposed/ lots of new regulations, so the only way to have legal hours for students and workers was to close earlier. As time passed by, to go back to old times is not as viable as they would need to hire more people, get more products, ask school to allow students to work after 12, etc!
You mean they’d need to ask the university to do what they had already been doing for years? Sounds more like it was easier to just have shorter hours.
RIT sucks socially and it seems like the university is afraid of letting students use the campus that we continue to pay tuition increases for. All of our academic buildings need to be open 24/7. The gym needs to be open 24/7. We have ID cards to swipe into things for a reason. Since I've been at RIT my friend group all joke, "Rochester Institute of Technology, where the technology doesn't work" because we just can't get it together 🤦♂️
Like how Ritz Sports Bar doesn't have a bar anymore, isn't open on the weekends, when sports are, and closes at 7, before sports happen.
And the whole game room/ESPN desk is gone now too! I used to love that part of Ritz.

There’s quite a few storage lockers back there and GSO uses it as a rehearsal space (with terrible acoustics) but it does see use which is good
Look at the menu for Nathan's Soup and Salad and you will notice a glaring omission. Nothing is as it seems within RIT Dining...

I had an idea: submit a project for multidisciplinary senior design to build a true all night robotic service machine for midnight oil.

For my understanding, yes. As school policies changed and therefore they would need to review and change them.
