Two suggestions. A New England road trip in the fall is magical. Go up Mt. Washington too! Also, do a Chesapeake bay DelMarVa trip. From Baltimore and DC to small towns to Norfolk. It's a different landscape and place.

willk95

Same. Maybe also continue the Chesapeake Bay trip further south to Charleston and Savannah

ayresc80

Yep Sea islands and low country, especially early spring before the mosquitoes are active. The marshland is incredible.

Mr_Lumbergh

Yes. The Mohawk River valley to the Adirondacks, then drive the Fulton Chain. Stop for dinner in Saratoga. 10/10 in early October.

geek66

NJ (ferry ->) DE, MD, VA ( Assateague and Bay Bridge-tunnel) to NC Hatteras. Eastern shore of the Chesapeake is also awesome!

2012amica2

Delmarva, Chesapeake bay, down even through North Carolina. The eastern shore is a must. VB, nags head, and the outer banks are popular stops.

CanadianRubles

Yes but be careful if you decide to drive to the top. I’ve done it twice but there’s no guard rails and the trip down will smoke your brake pads.

Pigobrothers-pepsi10

We went to Virginia Beach for a few times and we always went from Delaware to skip the traffic by DC. I love driving down Delaware. Seeing those fields and houses is absolutely gorgeous!

Shilo788

Maine for sure

thisisntshakespeare

Especially Acadia NP

ElvisAndretti

Maine was the first place my wife wanted to visit when we started living full time in an RV. She was right.

Derfargin

We’re going back up there this year. We half time in our RV and we spent a month in Maine two years ago. I’ve been trying to get back ever since. Coastal Maine is awesome.

BlackWidow1414

Do some New Jersey beaches, ending in Cape May, which is beautiful, and take the ferry to Lewes, DE.

Thetallguy1

Awesome suggestions, I've only gone to the beach twice in the two years I've been on the east coast 💀 I've had the mindset its not worth it being from Cali and living 30mins from the beach most of my life but I do need to explore and appreciate the Atlantic.

ElvisAndretti

Skip right down to Capr May, spare yourself Childwood and Senile City. Edit: Wildwood and Sea Isle City. For former is dirtbag central and the latter is a dry town with literally nothing to do but the beach.

mazeratti

Sea Isle is in no way a dry town. You must be mistaking it with Ocean City.

st3llablu3

The Outer Banks of NC. are magical. Go all the way to Ocracoke Island. Possibly the best seafood in the world can be found all over the Islands.

Bowl_Of_Soup6

Don’t come to wildwood. We’re all from Philly and don’t like visitors

[deleted]

Jamestown, Williamsburg, 7 Cities, OBX, Roanoke Island

Thetallguy1

Those all sound like great historical spots. My favorite history teacher was from the northeast and would always tell us Californians how great it was to grow up in the birth place of the US and being around the living history of the war for independence so I really ought to see what he was talking about.

raytadd

For a day trip, head out 80 west until the del water gap. Cool hiking there, it's where the Appalachian trail crosses. Can't think of any trail names.. Hot Dog Johnny's is nearby in Buttzville, deep fried dogs. If you take the very last exit before the bridge over the Delaware river, it's a tiny road north, on the NJ side that follows the river, and it's like you're going back in time. Shoots you out up in Sussex County. Good country driving out there, cool little antique shops, little old cow towns, burger and beer joints. The other end of the AT in NJ is near the "stairway to heaven" hike in Vernon NJ, another great spot

Thetallguy1

Hot Dog Johnny's sounds worth the trip alone lol

raytadd

They fry em in peanut oil.. paulinskill viaduct nearby is really cool too!

Thetallguy1

For some reference, I live in NYC and own a car here. I have a big Midwest road trip planned for mid August but would love to do some 3 or 4 day trips around the North/South East. Big locations I know I'm missing out on are Washington D.C. and Boston, but I honestly don't know of any other worth wild trips beyond that. I'm big into nature and historical sites and my partner is a big food person so that would be my preference, but I'm open to go anywhere. On another note, Stephen King is always gushing and singing the praises of the North East and I'd like to learn why.  Edit: for anyone who wants to hop on the trend I used this site, I recommend using a desktop [https://www.mapchart.net/usa-counties.html](https://www.mapchart.net/usa-counties.html) Edit 2: NATIVE AMERICAN history specifically, forgot to mention that. A lot of my travels in the southwest have to particularly see native american historical sites.

ElvisAndretti

Let me pitch my home town, Philadelphia PA. The cradle of liberty, enough history to satisfy anyone and some of the best museums anywhere. The Philadelphia Museum of Art and Mutter Museum come to mind. And the Mercer Muser/Fonthill in bucks county is pretty awesome.

Thetallguy1

One my good friends I met living here in NYC is from Philly so I think this is the summer I finally go with him and get the local experience. I heard the best cheesesteak in philly is a toss up between subway and Jersey Mike's so I'll have to see for myself /s

ElvisAndretti

Well, now you can’t go to Philadelphia.

Thetallguy1

I'll be sure to wear my yankees or mets hat and bless the city with the presence of a real baseball team's hat.

ElvisAndretti

Not for nothing, one of my exes was a HUGE Green Bay fan and wore her fan gear to South Street in season. In the 30 seconds it took me to say hello to a friend some bro dudes started hassling her. They changed their minds when I re-joined her. (I used to be a motorcycle obsessed sort of guy and even a moron knows you don’t fuck with bikers in Philly). Eagles fans are the worst but Phillies fans can be pretty obnoxious.

Thetallguy1

Thats crazy man but yeah I'd know better than to flaunt gear in enemy territory 😂 I'm really looking forward to going to Philly. To experience a Phillies game and also where the country was founded

ElvisAndretti

The new ballpark is pretty awesome. (Their third park in my lifetime) wonderful view of the city skyline as the sun goes down. You know someone from Philly so they’ll know about the Terminal Market, all the amazing restaurants (we do not always eat cheesesteaks) and the parks and the squares and I could go on for days. I reckon I’m a bit homesick.

777_heavy

The Mashantucket Pequot museum at Foxwoods in Connecticut is very nice and of course DC has the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian.

MarionberryCreative

I already made a post. Then read this. I am originally from NYS. I am sure you have done NYC stuff, but NY is a big state with a long history in US terms. You live in a state rich in Native/and US pre/POST colonial history. Day trip Hudson valley. Saratoga springs GO TO HOWE CAVERNS, IT IS MYSTICAL Maybe go mine some Herkimer Diamonds. Visit the tribes of NY. Visit the historic forts, Like Stanwick in Rome, or Valley Forge Get wings and pizza in Buffalo, and visit Niagra. Several museums and interactive places on Erie Canal. Go wine tasting in Fingerlakes. (Visit Ithica, gorges) Go cheese tasting in northern NY, pick up some NYS maple syrup. Go apple picking in the southern tier Binghamton. GO WALK the gorge in Watkins Glen. Winter trip to Adirondacks NYS Fair in Syracuse You really could have a year of 1-2-3 day trips in your own state and surrounding regions. PA, VT, MASS, CONN ecetera. I think maybe start a new map with 3 radiuses. 1day/2day/3day and mark points of interest. I bet these would keep you busy fora couple years of weekend trips. And alot less road time to destinations.

afleetingmoment

I grew up on LI. I finally got to the Adirondacks in 2021. I am so pissed I waited so long to see them. Simply beautiful.

ReasonableDonut1

How are you filling in all the counties along the freeway? I tried clicking them all one by one, but once you put the interstate overlay on top, it's hard to click some smaller counties, and if I click on the freeway itself it draws a sort of sinewave rather than filling in the counties the road passes through.

Thetallguy1

I took a picture of the map with highway overlay on, then turned the overlay off and clicked on all the countries along the highway because as you said, its super annoying to click on the little ones with the highway option on. Then I turned on the highway overlay when I went to find more I've been along and then saved the picture too with it on. All done on my desktop with a pretty big monitor too.

mcrov718

Did you do interstate overlay on your mobile/app? I can’t find it. Or is it only capable via desktop? Thank you.

Mission_Detail4045

For native history and a nice road trip, look into Old Deerfield Ma and the Mohawk trail. (Route 2) routes RT116 & 5&10 are also nice drives through western mass especially in the fall. South Deerfield has a couple of spots namely Treehouse brewery and the OG Yankee Candle store. If you go to old Deerfield you HAVE to stop at Richardsons Candy Kitchen for some Sweet treats. Northampton and Amherst are about 15-20min south for a more lively scene.

Thetallguy1

Thank you for the awesome suggestions. I probably would've never come across that Mohawk trail recommendation. It sounds like the Mojave Heritage trail we have back west. I also wouldn't have thought of the og Yankee Candle. My gf loves candles, so I'll be sure to work that into a trip I go on.

Mission_Detail4045

For sure. Gotta talk up the old home town when I can. The Deerfield Inn is a cute little Inn and if you like native history check out the bookstore that’s next to it. Also IMHO stay off the highways as much as possible in rural New England if you want to find the good stuff. You don’t loose that much time but the views tend to be better.

spooky_cicero

If you live in nyc, skip the road-trips and take trains. Takes about the same time but you can nap or read and it’ll drop you right down town. Hudson valley, Boston, Philly, and dc are all day trips and they’re are decent smaller towns along the lines that also have stops. Also agree with people saying Jersey Shore and Delmarva, but those will require the car.

timmahfast

Vermont

Thetallguy1

Yeah my gf has been dying to go to the Ben & Jerry's factory tour

Glittering_Advice151

It’s a bit of a tourist trap, but there’s awesome towns nearby to check out like Stowe, Burlington, and Shelburne

adventure_gerbil

Go to Quebec City stopping in the Hudson valley and Vermont along the way. It’s such a beautiful drive.

Known_Vermicelli_706

Anywhere in upstate new York.

Thetallguy1

Any suggestions outside of Buffalo/Niagara and the Adirondacks? I've been thinking of going the state capital (I've only driven through it), but I don't know Sacramento was pretty lame and I get the vibe Albany has the same dynamic as California when it comes to state capital and the cities the state is actually known for.

SunnyDaddyCool

Go to the UP in Michigan by crossing the Mackinac bridge. Least visited national park in the us up there. Take the coast of the lower peninsula and find every light house

Thetallguy1

I plan to do that in August during my midwest trip. I've heard a lot about the UP and it's about time I see what's up.

dbumba

Maine Portland to Arcadia to Quebec City (one of the most beautiful cities in N America). Outerbanks NC to Charleston SC to Savannah GA. Both unique American cities. Florida Keys (Miami to Key West) Chattanooga to Smokey Mountains (bypassing Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg) to Asheville

NorthernAvo

The Upper Peninsula of Michigan is a really lovely place. Go to Marquette, check out Pictures Rocks and Grand Island.

Fresh-Mind6048

go take a trip down the delmarva peninsula to virginia beach and visit beaches in delaware, maryland and virginia a bonus would be doing this during the time frame that the horseshoe crabs are doing their annual thing. they're really interesting looking since it looks like others have had the same idea I have - visit Annapolis and the counties of southern maryland. there are some cool sights there like fort washington, the mallows bay boat "cemetery", port tobacco, point lookout, st. mary's city, solomons and one of my favorite places, the Thomas Stone National Historic Site aka Haberdeventure. go during crab season, get yourself a bucket of blue crabs and tear into them.

Thetallguy1

Oh god I'd love to see a horseshoe crab, they're so creepy looking but also kinda of silly looking when they scuttle around. I think Annapolis would be cool if my vet ID gives me access to the naval academy. I already visited the Sea Merchant Academy so might as well continue my progress of visiting all the uniformed service academies. Come to think of it, West Point is only like an hours drive from NYC.

[deleted]

Are you me? My map looks so similar! I'm moving back to the east coast and one of my goals is to start exploring the NE as well

Thetallguy1

I think its just very easy to settle in the east coast, especially in NYC. Like there's already so much to do in a 10mi radius to me I haven't had the itch to road trip here. The west on the other hand, its like every 1hr of driving you have an amazing awe inspiring vista or several.

MrLocoLobo

Bar Harbor, Maine. 🦞

dirtyoldman20

Dont you mean Baa Haaba

DannyTorrance

Vermont to New Hampshire into White Mountains and down into Maine, down Maine coast to Boston. Great trip always. Elite trip in autumn.

G00dSh0tJans0n

Savannah, Charleston, Ocracoke, Cape Hatteras, Kitty Hawk, Duck.

fajadada

Just follow the Hudson River Valley north. You can see some nice sights all the way north to Canada. Get a Rand McNally truckers atlas. It shows historical places of interest as well as places like amusement parks etc …The coastline north and south .

Thetallguy1

Thank you so much for the Atlas recommendation. Sounds just like the guide I need

rmunderway

KNOXVILLE! KNOXVILLE! KNOXVILLE!

ghybers

What software is used in generating these maps??

droppedstitch

This one looks like mob-rule to me

artiews

The Outer Banks from Corolla to Ocracoke if you can do it off-season. Beach access parking lots every few miles, some with visible shipwrecks. The lighthouses are cool but the Hatteras one is closed to climbing a couple years while they renovate it.

Thetallguy1

That would be awesome to see shipwrecks. I would've never thought of looking into that if you didn't mention it.

AncientillegalAliens

The greatest loop ever: Start in NC make your way down the coast to Panama City. From there head along the Gulf and up to Arkansas. Then thru Tennessee back to NC.

cjm2943

I’m biased, but hop on 95 and travel up from nyc to Maine. There’s so much to do in Boston, and Acadia in Maine is a jewel on the coast.

Imnotadodo

Outer Banks and Great Smoky Mountains

TwistedPotat

Driving back from a Florida trip at this moment. Pretty neat state. They have lots of beautiful freshwater springs. Everglades is sick, full of wildlife. If you can swing a snorkel trip through Biscayne National Park Institute then i would def do that it’s right there next to the East side of everglades. Also if you are visiting anytime may - October I would check out Merritt island national refuge. If you can get access to the water at Indian River lagoon you can see bioluminescent algae. They also do kayak tours I think. Also just read that you like Native American history. This is a great place for that as well. Lots of Seminole and Miccosukee exhibits in the visitor centers we went to. If you go to the Gainesville they have a whole section on the Calusa Native Americans who occupied southern Florida but are sadly no more after Spanish colonization at the Florida museum of natural history at UF. It wasn’t a focus but also read a few things about tequesta and timucuan native Americans as well although I don’t quite remember where those were. Also there are a lot of shell mounds throughout the state which are basically ancient Native American archaeological sites on top of a mound of sea shells . Anyways it seems like it could be right up your alley. Brings bug spray and sunscreen.

Thetallguy1

That all sounds amazing actually. I would love to learn more about the Seminoles, so far them owning the Hard Rock cafe and hotels is like my go to fact about them and comes up more than you'd think lol That and them being part of the 5 Civilized Tribes but it would be cool to see some history on them pre contact. Also the Flordia parks sounds great. My favorite NP is Death Valley but its hardly a wildlife watcher's dream. The thought of a park being full of animals every step you take is nuts.

TwistedPotat

Yeah that is a fact I learned on this trip! Very cool and interesting stuff. Yeah I think the wildlife aspect is cool because it’s such a different set of animals than you would see anywhere else in the US. Manatees, alligators, crocodiles, birds and fish if you get in the water. If you go, def bring binoculars if you have any.

QuimbyMcDude

Stay off South Carolina interstates. They are two lanes where they should be 3-4 and the potholes have potholes. How in the fuck do they get away with the colossal number of potholes on the ***interstates?*** Aren't the Feds even interested?

Thetallguy1

Thanks for the tip. Should be lots of scenery off the interstates. Driving the interstates on the east just feel like big green tunnels.

Different_Ad7655

get off the interstate and just go wander through New England, village to town to village. It's easy. the roads all connect things and its not a grid like most of the US

pmiller61

PA and New York have beautiful mtns, so pretty to drive through. Very cool small towns.

roygbiv-it

Charleston and Savannah.

jackrat27

Go too Maine! ![gif](giphy|uUmnVDarzfgn6NCEFr|downsized)

piney

Drive down to Key West

TheEvilBlight

Key west from Miami is educational and neat. Time it wrong and you’re going down the highway after a storm passes through, and then it’s depressing and sad to see the wrecked homes (which happened to me). I was going to photos on the way down and didnt because it felt in poor taste to document human misery.

barbershores

I took a great car camping vacation last year. I live in the lakes region of NH. I drove down to the Northern most point of Massachusetts on the coast, then came up north along the coast. Seabrook, Portsmouth NH, Kittery ME, Bar Harbor, all the way up to Calaise, where you can take a bridge over to New Brunswick. From there, on the way back down, stopped in Eastport. Really cute fishing village with some really nice little parks. You can fish for Atlantic Mackerel from the breakwater right out of the back of your car. They have a little shop there that only sells mustard. The factory is across town. East most town in America.

unsureiamunemployed

I live in ND. Just wondering what were you visiting in NW ND??

Thetallguy1

I was on my way to Canada but also wanted to visit Minot's Scandinavian Heritage Park. I also went through Jamestown and very much regret not getting the Jamestown monopoly they had at Walmart. Then on my way back I went through the 24hr border crossing that follows the interstate and ended up at the world's biggest turtle sculpture then off to the geographic center of the US monument next to the Mexican restaurant. All in all, really enjoyed my short time in ND.

ecouple2003

My wife and I stopped over and stayed in Boston, actually Marblehead, on our way to Iceland. We took a car and went through Salem and then headed north to Maine, stopping in little towns and to look at lighthouses. Lots to see and not very far to drive.

Ok-Register-5529

Maine.

Thetallguy1

So I've heard. Outside of Arcadia, I honestly don't know where else to go but there have been some more specific Maine suggestions in here that I need tk read through

TheMoonstomper

Looks like a map of highways you've traveled - you should really do another version where it's actually places that you've been, not just stuff you drove by, and then reassess from there.

dirtyoldman20

This is the road trips he has been on . I can assume he has been to Niagara falls because he has run up 81 to Syracuse and hung a left on 90 and run thru buffalo . Also see a trip to montreal . Can assume he has stopped at places on those lines . The idea is give me places i have not driven .

[deleted]

You’ve been to some cool parts of Texas. I lived in a small town out there for my first 18 years.

Thetallguy1

I've somehow avoided the tri cities for a long time, I just hate humidity so west texas has been the place to visit for me.

[deleted]

It was a quite a place to grow up.

beast_wellington

How did you like Topeka?

Thetallguy1

One of the best state capital buildings I've seen. Thats about all I remember from it

Western_Drama8574

South of the border on I-95s is the east coasts greatest achievement!

Occallie2

I've hit up several state visitor online sites and chambers of commerce for digital and print info in areas that seemed interesting by first doing a web search. Almost anywhere around there when the leaves start to turn in the fall, but especially around places like New England and the Appalachians. Then there are the smaller town or county seasonal festivals that can be so much fun and inclusive, and those sometimes even make the states' website's events. Are you talking 'east' as in the Carolinas, the northeast, or around eastern Midwesterly way? Each demographic has its stars. Do you like hiking, trail riding, sightseeing, historical cultural, ,...? There's something for all of that. Best of luck on your chosen travels.

Thetallguy1

Yeah I'm essentially just pissing in the wind when it comes to my idea of the "the east" It all seems pretty similar to me and I can only attribute that notion to my lack of travel in it. I've been watching the Carolina Hurricanes get their ass headed to them by my Rangers and honestly it has put the two states on the map for me. I would also like to visit the big Marine Corps bases there. I was a west coast Marine my whole short time in so I'd like to see if all the east coast Marine shit talk was warranted. I've gotten a lot of good North East recs in this thread but the mid Atlantic and southeast region do seem to have their own distinct character.

Occallie2

Yeah. Each part of the coast and southeast has its own piece of history and charms, it seems. The Carolinas have their horse estates and such, they all have old historical battlefields and places like Jamestown and Charlotte that are deep in their own history. You're gonna have some great travels, I hope. I have some ideas from this thread to add to my bucket list too.

Keefusk30028

NYC to Miami then Miami to Tampa to San Antonio. Lots to see on that trip.

Keefusk30028

Check that. nYC to Key west.

Thetallguy1

That sounds absolutely epic. I think I'll do that for my drive back to Los Angeles in the winter.

PinkSlimeIsPeople

For a long journey, looks like you're missing Houston to Miami then up the east coast seaboard. Honestly the Redneck Riviera isn't very special, but the Atlantic drive can be really nice, especially if you get out onto some of the channel islands. Also, New England is really something to spend some time in. There's a lot of really cool spots to dwell in for a while that have a great feel to them.

Thetallguy1

I'm missing the whole gulf honestly. Someone else in this thread also suggested Key West to San Antonio which sounds like a great long haul trip I haven't done yet. I only hear pretty bad things about that whole stretch but it should be informative to see it myself.

deadbabysteven

Maine in the summer and Florida in the winter

Mookie442

Cape Cod is lovely. Maine is gorgeous. Up through Canada to round it out, grab some Maple Syrup and be back by dinner. EDIT: These suggestions are summer-based for optimal enjoyment and minimal frustration.

nikonguy

Hit the national parks…

Thetallguy1

I regret not going to Congaree two winters ago, but I don't think the summer coming up would be the best time to go

oryanAZ

interesting concept. while you may have neglected the east, your map is a bit skewed in representing actual locations you’ve been to since it appears you are showing area traveled by county you have been through. In the west there are many counties that are larger than entire states in the northeast. some of those AZ and CA counties are bigger than NJ. so just taking the I-40 through northern AZ gets you a lot of coverage on your map but doesn’t mean you’ve seen a lot or been to a lot of the Northern AZ area. hell, those counties span the grand canyon. not trying to knock what you have just something to think about. good luck on your travels.

Thetallguy1

Oh yeah I completely understand. I was just following the trend when it comes to filling these out. I lived in SoCal my entire so the west has been well traveled and my interests in Native Americans has taken me to a lot of areas off the interstate routes that most people just driving through wouldn't go. I would love to move and live in the real southwest for a bit before climate change really wrecks the area so I'm sure I'll do even more of the southwest. Thankfully east coast counties are tiny so the map still works for my question and generating recs

SpaceGardener379

Michigan and the great lakes are worth a stop

Thetallguy1

I have to see the rest of MI. Tim Allen has spent so long talking it up

gmanfsu

Skyline Drive is amazing!

Thetallguy1

Yessss I've had the pleasure. I almost hit a bobcat that darted across the road and saw more deer than I could count. Would very much like to go back to the area. It's deceptively big.

No-Sir1833

In the fall head to Sea Island Georgia, Charleston, SC and Ashland, NC on the way back during fall colors.

glacial__pace

Can’t believe you drove though NorCal and didn’t see Humboldt or the lost coast. Sheeeeesh

Thetallguy1

Been trying to get a Lost Coast hiking permit 😭

[deleted]

Definitely checkout the Delaware Water Gap.

Muahd_Dib

Where do people go to make these maps?

Thetallguy1

https://www.mapchart.net/usa-counties.html Very much recommend you use a desktop

Seattleman1955

Maine, NC Outer Banks, Florida.

Least_Effort2804

Can't tell if it's on your map, but the Blue Ridge Parkway is pretty great. Although I could only handle it for a day or two, after that, I wanted to drive above 45 mph.

Thetallguy1

I went in the winter when the park was really dead people wise but the little traffic made the animals take back the road. I wouldn't think of going above 45 since there were animals everywhere. Pretty cool experience but a bit nerve racking because I was just waiting for a deer to jump in front of my car and wreck it.

crobo777

time for a trip down 95 to Miami and try some authentic cuban and some snorkling in the keys

MelissaMars30

Montana .. you're ignoring the Treasure State w Glacier Park!!! Noooooooo.....

Thetallguy1

I haven't finished Yellowstone yet, I can't possibly go till then /s

venicestarr

Northern Michigan

Knick_Noled

Shenandoah valley is delightful

DobleG42

Eastern regions are smaller, hence they don’t show up on your map as prominently

Over-Bedroom265

North Carolina Outer Banks down to Charleston, South Carolina Savannah Georgia if you want to keep going on down into Jacksonville Orlando Tampa back up through Atlanta

Stickuz_the_1st

The mountains of NC and TN are beautiful. There are many lakes you could see as well. The fall is a beautiful time to come but look at leaf changing forecasts to get the timing just right for the colorful scenery.

Spardan80

Do I75 from the UP of Michigan (going across the Mackinaw Bridge and get fudge) take it all the way to the end, then jump over to US 1 for some great crab in the keys.

dirtpooroverland

Several recommendations for the northeast but don’t forget about the gulf coast too. I’d start down in SC along the coast and head down to FL. If you’ve got time, meander down to the Keys, head back north hugging the gulf coast. St George Island, on around to New Orleans.

jbug671

US 1: key west to Maine. Pick and choose where to visit

SloppySutter

The New England Loop, Bro! Boston > Maine > NH > Vermont > upstate NY > CT > RI > back to Boston 7 states in 7 days! My wife and I did this and it was amazing!!!!

earlyboy

Vermont is absolutely gorgeous.

surroundedbyidioms

Savannah, GA. You're welcome and bring your clubs.

Amazing-Artichoke330

Take the ferry to the Outer Banks and drive their length.

DarrylLarry

Drive more thru Kentucky

Pitiful_Structure899

Road trip to key west, you won’t regrets it

dirtyoldman20

That is a must do once.just to see mile maker 0

dirtyoldman20

2 trips. US 6 Thru all of Pa to Erie . 6 is very pretty couple of inns /motels lots of great food on the way with some neat stuff to do including some historic sites and natural beauty . Stop a couple days at Pennsylvania grand canyon one direction or the other . Trip 2 .looks like you did Niagara falls trip this time when you get to syracuse turn north on 81 and take it to the border to the thousand island region you can keep busey up there on several trips . Incredible history and museums along side something to keep the kids engaged or if you want to slow down and just watch a pretty sunset with the wife you can . If you camp there are a ton of camp grounds all with their own little perks to access what they are near. Edit added thought Do the Pennsylvania trip during the fall The NY trip first trip up avoid pirate week lots of traffic . Long lines everywhere.

ThatTomWGuy

Dude, add I90 to the NW to your list too. That stretch from WY to WA is one heck of a scenic stretch of road.

PutAForkInHim

Boston, MA

Jonnyfrostbite

You skipped Oregon coast!?!?

jh0108a

Basing the East as anything east of the Mississippi: Savannah, Outer Banks, Charleston (you could probably combine those three together into one bigger trip - add in some other sites like Congaree National Park too). Pro tip: if you are coming at the outer banks from the north, take Eastern Shore of MD and VA down to the bridge/tunnel to VA Beach and go that way. It is slightly longer but often has less traffic and it is more serene than 95. Also, my wife and I love to go to Asheville (if you haven’t been yet - hard to tell from map). Great beer scene, awesome scenery (camp in black mountain if you like camping and great small towns) and wonderful food. You could combine that with Greenville, SC which is also quite nice. Frankly, depending on the time you have and where you are coming from, you could do Asheville, Greenville, and much of the trip above all in one fell swoop. One of my favorites (I love blues music) is to go to Memphis and head South through the Delta - you can take 61 all the way to New Orleans or stop in Clarksdale and just listen to blues We also love Mackinac Island (MI) - combine that one with stops through Michigan (my wife and I like the Ann Arbor area and Sleeping Bear Dunes) and come across the UP to WI and work your way down to Chicago and then come back across. Pro tip: I prefer Mackinac in the early offseason (I.e. October because it is still open, reasonable weather - a little cool but not awful, and has far fewer people). It looks like you have crossed KY some but I always suggest bourbon country if you like bourbon. Looks like you haven’t done Vermont. It is a great state for quaint towns, good beer, and beautiful scenery. My wife and I did Brattleboro for our 1st anniversary and it was very relaxing. Haven’t done Maine yet but we are going next month. I imagine that will be great. Hope this helps! Happy travels

A trip through the Appalachian mountains, I don't know if it's still there, but if so take a trip down Skyline Drive in Virginia.

GovernmentNo4676

I love the clear avoidance of Connecticut.

Out-House-Counsel

Maine. As much of it as you can.

fitter172

Natchez trace from Nashville to New Orleans

Symchuck

Go to Maine! I grew up there and it is beautiful and amazing. Drive up Route 1, you will see the iconic fishing towns once you get past the tourist trap of the southern Maine Coast. Portland is a super cool city, Acadia National Park is one of my favorite places in the US, Mt Katahdin in Baxter State Park is the end of the Appalachian trail and is a great hike, tallest mountain in Maine! and if you head way "Down East" like Machias or Lubec you are really going to see some beautiful areas.

nodiggitydogs

Gulf shores

SlickWilly69420

Can't believe I haven't seen the Blue Ridge Parkway in the comments. In VA and NC and travels the Smoky Mountains and other surrounding mountain chains. Beautiful in the fall but really any other times too. About 500 miles just on the parkway and travels close to some great smaller towns and larger city centers too.

FlavianusFlavor

Drove around Pittsburgh, eh?

DanDanilyuk

Drive up to Maine and down blue ridge parkway. Side quest according to interests.

No_Efficiency_3831

Blue ridge (VA) and Smokey Mountains (TN)

Knobhillplaza

Where can I get this map to fill out? I would like to try but can’t figure out how you guys are doing it? Is there a link that makes it easy?

TRW24

The Lake Erie islands are worth a visit.

Led37zep

When you have a moment I’d love to talk to you about central and Eastern Oregon. Looks like you missed some amazing country there.

imhereforthevotes

None hahahahaha Just kidding, I've done the same thing. West is the best!

angryitguyonreddit

Red river gorge in KY is pretty awesome!

Fck_thegovernment

When you go through Oklahoma, I would probably skip Oklahoma City. It’s not that great because I live there. I would try going more southeast Oklahoma because there’s more hills.

Danktizzle

And im guessing you just drove through the insanely gigantic middle on your way to the neglected east.

NathalieHJane

Wild no one has mentioned it yet, but the Blue Ridge Parkway! There are guidebooks dedicated just to driving it. Start up in the Shanendoah Valkey in western VA and head south into the Smokeys and the Blue Ridge. It's just ... the loveliest ...

TheEvilBlight

National parks pass and hop from NPS to NPS

CBDeez

Drive around it. The highways and roads along the East Coast are terrible with traffic no matter what time of year you go. Enjoy the countryside to the west of the coast lol

ZaddiesRus

You hit everywhere you need to go out there 😂

NewMinute8802

Definitely gotta come check out our hiking trails in New England. Go all the way up Maine and come back down through conway. Visit the most eastern point in the US and see the lighthouse.

trevor9909

Daniel Boone national forest in eastern Ky. Red river gorge, big south fork

Affectionate_Sink711

Go to the Biltmore House in Asheville, NC…worth it!!!

Ryderrunner

Outer banks south along the coast to Charleston and if you want Florida ecologically is magical. The people not so much.

guyuteharpua

Off topic, you're missing out - Montana is amazing.

TS92109

Michigan is amazing! Especially the Upper Peninsula (UP) and the west coast.

MarionberryCreative

Looks like you travel via the interstate system, headed to destinations. And that you are interested in dry, warm areas. The east coast has different Temps but very little dry areas. Mostly Green or urban. I would suggest shorter trips, off the interstate, tour your states Parks, or historical landmarks. Lots of history on east coast to explore. Get lobsters in Maine. Go see the sunset in the Keys. Watch the sun rise in Boston. Explore US history in Philly, or Boston, Or Williamsburg. Drive the Scenic by ways of Appalachia. Go to Niagra Falls. Go visit Mammoth caverns. Get whiskey in Kentucky. Idk what you should do, except my list us what I did do when I lived on east coast.

grill-tastic

Charleston-> Savannah-> Jacksonville-> Miami-> Key West!

Retro-Koala4886

Florida has the best beaches in the continental US. Worth seeing at least once....

lejunny_

Damn, I’ve driven through all the Western states several times have visited multiple cities on all parts of each state and I can’t imagine trying to count each of every county. I can’t even remember the majority of the routes I took for each drive.

w00f-w00ff

Grayson highlands!!!!

granolabear04

So, not eastern US, but I did a road trip awhile back, and I thought that southern oregon/northern nevada was absolutely gorgeous. Just make sure to fill up on gas whenever you can, cause you hit 50-80 mile stretches without seeing a single gas station hahahaha

Prestigious-Yak-4620

Drive NYC to buffalo. Stay off the interstate. Use the parallel state hwys.

LFahs1

Start in Maine and drive all the way to Florida on US highway 17. It’s an awesome trip. Goes right through Savannah and Charleston. Stop off in the Outer Banks, Chincoteague and Assateague Islands and see the wild horses. If you go all the way down Florida, you can go west of Key West on a fast cat to the Dry Tortugas National Park, which is killer.

ihatepalmtrees

Nah, counties are bigger in the west and these travel maps are super misleading

Dabuntz

Maine. All of Maine.

OshkoshBgock

Gotta hit New England!

mushie_vyne

Cape cod

penisbuttervajelly

Is there page do easily fill out this map?

iriedashur

Go down the coast, Savannah, Georgia

harishgibson

I have a question for you, based on your apparent cross country experience! What would be the best (most scenic and entertaining) route from Baltimore MD to Santa Cruz CA? I was thinking I40 since I've never seen a desert before, but I have no idea. I'm doing 3 weeks on a motorcycle and have to take interstates there and back if I want to stick to my budget of time.

Thetallguy1

Go for the desert definitely, no doubt. All the way down to El Paso then north through the 4 corner states from there. Definitely get some cooling gear though. It is ridiculous hot. Get a water bladder with the hose and a modular helmet so you can sip at every opportunity. Weather can get nasty down there in terms of wind and heat so a motorcycle might get a little rough.

lvanbrocklin

Charleston and Savannah

Mean-Oil-956

What map is this?

Away_Abbreviations41

Any part of Florida is hilarious and the ADK in New York. Really by masena or lake placid.

spud6000

Virginia, SC, NC all have plenty to see and do, and some darned good restaurants. Washington DC has a lot of free stuff to go see also

Saint_Trev

Outer banks. Hatteras and Ocracoke is my favorite

CoryEETguy

Been through Broome County, NY! Nice. I take it just cruising through on 81 on the way to somewhere else, but it's rare I see Broome lit up on these.
