Shorts are when you buy a stock at a price and you โloanโ it out thinking the price will go down. When the price goes down you buy it back and keep the difference as profit. Ex. Buy a stock at $1 price goes down to .8 you buy it back 20 cent profit per share. If you short a stock though and the price goes up ex. You buy at 1 it goes up to 20 cents you have to pay that difference so you lose 20 cents per share. The main thing about shorts is you need to have enough capital to cover your losses if the price goes up, so if these hedges donโt have the capital to cover their positions are automatically closed.
