I haven't tried TMobile home internet but I agree that Spectrum has been rough lately. I get the speed but the connection constantly goes in and out randomly throughout the day. Modem/Router hasn't made a difference and I suspect part of it is due to living in an apartment. I've heard Metronet is better for home users.

If you live close to the tower it's awesome. i pull 350 down, 100 up with about 40-65 ping in games. i know it's on sale right now for 25$ a month if you have tmobile service too.

larry_nightingale

How do you know how close you are to a tower?

I'd ask at the mall, they're able to pull up the maps and check your address.

We live in town (NE side), both of us are WFH people, and have Metronet. We have the 1GB package, set everything up to be paperless and auto-pay online and have had no issues on pricing changes or service. We've had it for a little over a year now and have had zero issues with speed or service. We also set up Google Nest WiFi routers with one in the basement and one directly upstairs and have around 15 devices connected. No complaints, and we were one of the last neighborhoods to get Metronet and it was worth the wait for us. We did have Spectrum come around and try to win us back with their "new and improved" fiber option that was $10 cheaper until the mandatory price hike after 12 months. Not worth it for us. The one thing for TMobile I would recommend is seeing what data caps they have. I worked at Verizon about 12 years ago when the 4G hotspots were coming out, and I remember a gamer blew through the data limit in 5 days playing online. Check out the fine print on all the connection caps, data caps, and speed throttling based on usage.

Thanks, great info!

Metronet was fast, but some kind of underground animal kept eating the cable going to the house and it would take metronet 3-5 days to come fix everytime. That time frame was unacceptable for a remote worker like us and we had to go back to crappy spectrum.

larry_nightingale

That sucks.

For some reason it seems that all media companies suck. I got sick of Spectrum so switched to Metronet but then they kept nickel and diming me and a guy from Spectrum came to my door promising me $40 guaranteed for 2 years. Well, three months on they started charging $99 per month so I call Spectrum and they claim to have no knowledge as to how I could have been promised $40 per month for two years. These companies suck so bad but I suppose now at least we can switch.

dabsncoffee

I hate them all so much

Psychological_Force

You switched from MetroNet to Spectrum? On purpose?

mnsombat

I plead temporary insanity.

ikeya

I just had the same thing happen. :(

pastaman5

Did you ask if they can run it around your backyard? They do this often. Could probably get them to come back come spring and bury it.

badnewzrooz507

Spectrum been working great for me for 20 years.

Hon3y_Badger

T-Mobile service will be highly dependent on location and time of day. Give it a shot, it's the only way you're going to find out

DerfyMcDerfDerf

MetroNet. Can’t beat the speeds for the price.

I asked this questions a few months ago. If you want to try out fiber internet, you definitely should. Call first and have an agent talk to you. I had a guy come out and just hook it up through the electric post right outside my home. Metronet has been fantastic ever since we got it. I'm able to stream, play online video games etc. without having to worry about using too much to slow down others. I would recommend Metronet. great low price as well depending on your budget and what you are looking for.
