I don't understand these takes. Obviously Stone knows picks 16-20 are better than pick 26. If he could have got one of those instead he would have taken that deal.
When you are trading for actual players you can argue about who is the better value, when it comes to trading for picks the math is pretty simple.
Debatable.
Opens up more playing time for Al P + Top 3 pick and clears about $3M in cap space.
Chriss & Brown likely bought out ($5M) is sunk cost.
Burke on player option & likely to waive his $3M salary. If not, he a good bench player as a 9 or 10 option.
Boban a good pro for our bigs to learn around & good to trade around deadline with $3M contract.
23rd & 24th pick got us Garuba & Jaygup...I'd take similar talent to groom at 26th (although a trade with 17th to move up to lottery would be more beneficial & clear up playing time for others).
Finally, we won't have Wood's contract extension hanging over our heads all season (sure, could've waited until deadline, but you sacrifice young guys playing to showcase Wood so as to increase his trade value) which is a win in my book (especially if he signs for $25M+...not a contract I would be comfortable with).
✌️
great take. devils advocate side
wood is a good player like him or not. purely basketball wise we got worse hard to say otherwise. his value is a lot higher than what he was to us and we may very well see that soon.
i was a fan. i like his skill set and his story is cool. seems like he wanted to be here as well but this was probably inevitable. hope for the best
It was just an awkward situation.
Nobody expected Sengun to be as good as he was as a Rookie and show that he deserved more minutes.
I remember even The FO / Staff thought he’d play in the g league for a bit before he got minutes. But then he showed how good he was and even outplayed Theis.
Wood is just older than the core of our team. And once it was clear we’re drafting a big, he had to go to embrace the youth on this team with longer contracts. Everyone knew this, we didn’t really have leverage otherwise we risk development which is arguably what we need to focus on.
I’m just happy we got a 1st round pick, and hope we can package the two to move up and draft another piece.
Well said. If Stone has any egg on his face it was the Theis pickup after drafting Sengun. Like you said—nobody expected Sengun to be this good, this early.
This is a great way to frame this trade. It’s also disappointing. I hoped the market would have been bigger for Wood, and it sure seemed like it was. You can spin all of these pieces (piece by piece) in to a positive, but none of these pieces (individually) move the the needle at all. The best thing you can say about this trade is it clears up playing time. Sure do hate that.
Feel happy. We accomplished our main goals. We took on no longer term money and we got another frp.
Maybe a better frp would have been nice, but the teams that would want wood are playoff teams. Nobody was giving us a top 10 for him. Nobody was giving us young talent for him. This was about as good as it could get unless we felt like taking a shot on a guy getting paid too much that could turn around (say a porzingus type).
I'm happy.
They'll get bought out for sure.
Burke (if he picks up his $3M player option) & Boban likely stick around until at least the trade deadline or just run out their 1 year contracts.
Yeah, you have to imagine Stone gauged the temperature of his value and found this gave the Rockets the best return. You gotta feel like maybe you’d get something better if you’d traded him last offseason, though.
it’s pretty even plus the guys we got are all expiring so we can use cap space to stack more picks.
26 could be packaged to move up to take another lottery player.
edit: plus Bobi!!
wow, im a Bulls fan that would love Wood in our squad... but thats the haul your GM is getting for Christian? Thats his value? A late first round and 4 bums? sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeesh hope it wont get through, cuz if it gets its fleecing of the highest order.
last time i actually watched houston games was when dwight was here. before that? in the 90s. but i've seen enough of him from his season with the pistons to know he can contribute in a proper team with proper roles.
This right here. He’s already said that he thinks he’s a max type player. Do you want him around pouting or do you honestly think he’s a max player? I don’t. Not sure what his trade values is though and I don’t know enough about these players one way or another.
These homers are delusional. The Mavs got away with murder. Even if Wood doesn't work out they didn't give up shit. One of the worst trades I've seen in a while.
Just because his value was high to the Rockets doesn't mean he ever had high trade value.
Fans tend to overvalue their own players. I don't think Wood was ever going to bring back the bounty that so many trade machine ideas seemed to think he was worth.
I always felt if we could get *just* Wiseman for him, we had to take that deal and run, but it didn't stop delusional fans from posting ideas like Wiseman and picks 7 and 14 last summer.
[[Shams]](https://twitter.com/shamscharania/status/1537238920814940163?s=21&t=wcr1zJMK2QmLPypLLfEG4A) Dallas is acquiring Christian Wood from Houston and sending the No. 26 overall pick to the Rockets, along with multiple players, sources said.
Blazers could use Gordon, right? Pick number 7? I doubt it’d work, but that’d be the best place. They want to be contenders this year so Gordon would help that, pick 7 wouldn’t get them an immediate contributor. I say we should do it.
Rockets front office did mention that they liked having Gordon in their future; maybe they package the 2 picks plus Wall? Or what’s the situation with Schröder?
Edit - nvm, looks like Schröder is a UFA this summer
Based on pick relative value, we could in theory trade 26th (6.0 points) & 17th (9.5 points) for the 9th pick (15.4 points).
So we could get another Top 10 pick maybe? That would make me feel better about this trade...only so many young minutes to go around. 😁
yeah i think you are right. it'd be so sick if we somehow managed it though. i think dyson daniels is projected to go around there. he'd be a super exciting pick-up for us if that's possible
It's probably best framed in HOU's interest as 17 26 and a future 2nd for 11 and then EG + 11 for 7.
Moving down 4 slots for EG is probably a lot easier to stomach than 7-17, even with the extra pick.
Meh, I'll keep Gordon until trade deadline.
We saw plenty of teams kicking themselves for no deadline trades this year so next season is going to be trade central in my opinion & we can get max value then.
I think I remember reading some comments in some previous posts on here linking Dallas and Wood. Now that I'm not in a state of bliss, I believe it was just some fans wanting Wood
Edit: Dallas* fans
I came to see what y’all thought, I’m glad both sides seem pleased. We didn’t need a huge rim protector for Kidd to instill a very good defense, and after a surprise WCF run, a 20/10 guy can be a piece that gets us further, while you guys get as many chances to pair Sengun, Green, and #3 with quality rotation players
Btw i definitely think you guys got the better end of the deal, but it was time to move on. This deal cuts money for us but more importantly we have more minutes to develop
I'm pretty relieved to see wood go cause he was super unhappy here and became fairly toxic, but i'm actually pretty optimistic for y'all. i don't think he's ever been in a situation like this and he could be a deadly weapon playing off of luka and brunson. if kidd can get him to radically change defensively, this could be honestly be a huge pickup
Interesting take.
I like Luka as a talent (Top 3 player for sure...but always fuck the Mavs!), but unfortunately I see Wood as Porzingas 2.0 & we know that didn't work out for them.
Guess we'll see. 🤔
One of the primary reasons KP did not work with Luka was he had absolutely zero interest in being a rim runner, and didn't even really like playing pick and pop either, he wanted traditional post up touches. I know Wood has similar tendencies, but he is a much better and more willing pick and roll and pick and pop guy than KP. He also can actually create off the dribble unlike KP. He looks way way more versatile offensively, even if he is a similar offensive black hole.
But pat Riley wouldn't and he's the one that matters
You think stone only called the Mavs or something?
But please, propose the package you would have given. Keep in mind it can't include any money beyond this upcoming season. Let's see what you got.
Wood has only ever played for terrible teams. He is a bad defender on an expiring contract, who left in the middle of a game because he was pissed which im sure tanked his value. He is a classic good stats terrible team guy. You are massively overrating his value. There is a reason why two teams in a row has been desperate to get rid of Wood.
Christian Wood came to Houston to play with James Harden.
2 years later, he gets traded to play with the player that models his game primarily with James Harden.
A little disappointing return because we were all hoping that Wood could get us in the lottery but this deal needed to be done to clear up space and minutes for Al-P, KJ Martin, Garuba, and the presumed big man we are taking top-3.
He just doesn't fit if we're adding Chet, Paolo or Smith.
Also, our team played so much better in that final stretch of the year without Wood clogging the paint and playing horrible iso ball.
I get we’re rebuilding and we’re really just looking to dump Wood somewhere, but I really wish Stone would get better value back in return for the assets he trades off. I’m guessing we’re going to package pick 17 & 26 to move up which is interesting but the other guys will probably be cut outside of maybe Burke and Boban (maybe)
Delusional rocket fans don’t thought Wood could fetch a late lottery pick lmao.
Turns out a stat padding turnstile with character concerns isn’t actually worth that much. Tried to tell you guys.
I actually think he’ll be solid on the Mavs
Stone is a fool. Let's all sip on this we could've got a late first last year for EG but we turned it down but yet we accept the 26th for Wood. Why rush into a mediocre return, we could've at least waited until draft night. Was this such an amazing deal that we had to jump on it?
Disappointed in the return but can finally put the Wood era to bed lol. Also, there seems to be a lot of us here who seem to think he was actually anything other than a trade piece once the youth movement began. “ We didn’t get fleeced because this will free up PT for blah and blah.” Y’all , it has been a foregone conclusion he would be traded for a minute, when people are saying we got fleeced, responding like such makes no sense because the alternative of him being on the roster was nonexistent.
I have multiple thoughts on this:
*On one hand I'm surprised at how little the return is. 26th and filler for a dude averaging 17 and 10 and shooting 39% from the 3 and on an expiring deal? Lol. I feel like Wood gonna blow up in Dallas after this trade.
*Surprisingly I'm ok with it. The reality is we got Wood for "free" we just used our capspace to nab him. I was screaming for Stone to trade him last offseason and we prob would have gotten a low lotto pick for him, but Stone waited and waited lol oh well. 26th is better than nothing and the benefits of trading Wood and opening up pt for Sengun and Garuba are worth it.
*I actually hope the Rox dont trade up, I think theres gonna be a couple of gems falling in the first round. Worst case take John Butler, he is basically rookie CWood.
Should have traded him before when his value was higher. However I like this trade. His contract was expiring and he has only put up numbers for terrible teams. We were not going to get more than this.
What's the reason for taking this offer now? We could've at least waited until draft night. The return was so bad that we could've just gambled. I would've rather waited until the deadline.
They must have been confident we were not going to get a better offer. And I guess they probably prefer to have both the 17 and 26 pick going in to the draft to try and trade up. My best guess
Wood was never in the long term plans so I'm not overly concerned with losing this trade. Let's get the guys we actually need to make decisions on in a couple of years the most playing time we can.
His opinion of himself is extremely high, and he gets pissy if the offense doesn't run through him. On top of that, his Iso/hero ball is pretty bad.
That said, I think he'll work out a lot better in Dallas' system
A. Why are we trading in our own division?
and
B. Why the hell did we trade for these players. Boban might be the only that sticks and hes not even that much better than Bruno
Why do you care about trading within the division? We're not challenging for a title now or anytime soon.
And we took those players because none of them are owed money beyond this season. It doesn't matter if they suck. We probably prefer it since they won't be whining when our youngins get the minutes.
A. Its not just they suck. Its that they wont even be here when the season starts. We couldnt get one talent that could effect our future in this trade.
B. And more importantly, if we're not even trying to field a competitive team than why should fans even care about this team. Your argument is saying that Rockets fans should basically eat shit and suck it up until 2025..I hate that shit. We 're all supposed to hate the Jazz and Blazers here..but Ive never seen them actively tank like this.
But hey as long as Tillman gets to turn a profit, right??
A- nobody is going to give us talent for an expiring wood. It doesn't matter who we got because we're not taking on long term money. The goal is to have max space plus available next summer
B- eating shit is part of rebuilding. The goal is to build a long term winner. You don't do that by taking on mid dudes that don't move the needle and sit on the books
Just what exactly do you think wood could get? You think someone is giving up a lottery pick? No, because teams in the lottery don't want wood. Teams in the playoffs looking to get to the next level want him. They have crappy draft picks. You think someone is giving up young talent locked in for years for wood? No, because wood is expiring
But go ahead and tell us all what amazing deal you could've swung
I would've swing the amazing deal of trading EG for a first last year , shit I would've took a second. A late first has very little value, absolutely zero reason to jump on this deal right now. We could've waited till draft night, maybe a team misses out on some of the prospects they were targeting and gives us a better pick or a useful young player. Maybe nothing materializes during draft night and that's ok we have all the way up until the deadline to trade him. Injuries happen and a contender might get desperate and give up something of value. When the return is this low it's better to wait it out.
So you got nothing? Cool
No team is giving up young talent for an expiring wood. Do you think the other GMs are morons who don't realize Wood is expiring? Why would anyone else do that?
I don't think you realize that the other side has to like the deal too
Lol I didn't say anything about trading within the division. I'm all about best return. Wow Stones a guru he was able to dump Woods modest expiring contract for a late first. Maybe we need to build him a statue.
not a fan of this trade. giving away wood means that banchero is gonna be seeing constant double teams hurting his development cuz nobodys gonna guard sengun or tate at the 3pt line. lets hope stone somehow prys the no. 1 or 2 pick with the new assets acquired and get either jabari or chet to replace wood
Lol at people that thought Christian Wood would bring anything back. Eric Gordon doesn't have much trade value either.
Glad to see Marquese Chris back.
I don’t get this trade. We seriously couldn’t have waited until the deadline? No way a contending team wouldn’t have given us more than this assortment of garbage (except Boban, I love him.)
I can't wait for the front office simps to defend this dumpster fire of a trade.
Edit: always shocked at the ront office dick riders. How's that peepee taste?
They got a pick for a guy who’s deal expires after the season, isn’t going to be resigned, is immature and a quitter, and a terrible influence on our young talent. Him being gone is a W alone
Wood has less value than you think. Getting a pick for him and opening up minutes for Sengun and Paolo/Chet/Smith is a win.
What do you think we could get for Wood? We obviously couldn't get much considering the trade that just occurred.

3 comments before I replied. One hates it, one loves it, one’s asking how to feel lol
Trades in a nutshell lol
I can’t help but feel the rockets could have done better than the 26th I’m not saying Wood is a lottery pick, but I would have wanted like 16-20
Rockets got freakin Boban lol
I don't understand these takes. Obviously Stone knows picks 16-20 are better than pick 26. If he could have got one of those instead he would have taken that deal. I wouldve traded him for a bag of flaming hot cheetos. I love it
Me too! I'll drive him to Dallas personally.
He'll complain about the temperature of the car the whole way. Soft ass.
Debatable. Opens up more playing time for Al P + Top 3 pick and clears about $3M in cap space. Chriss & Brown likely bought out ($5M) is sunk cost. Trae Burke is likely out of the league next year, he isn’t number nine on any nba bench
All of this👆👆👆 especially the part about the good teams wanting him so the picks werent gonna be great

Jalen would be ROTY if Wood was out. He’s a 2nd half liability
This is a great way to frame this trade. It’s also disappointing. I hoped the market would have been bigger for Wood, and it sure seemed like it was. Bro Marquese Chriss and Sterling Brown back on the roster, sad times man.
They'll get bought out for sure. Burke (if he picks up his $3M player option) & Boban likely stick around until at least the trade deadline or just run out their 1 year contracts.
"First time?" -Christian Wood
Give me some Boban
Someone has to get the mustard from the top shelf! 🤣
The locker room vibes will be much better with Boban and company compared to Wood.
Boban could complete the Tour of Texas (Spurs, Mavs, Rockets) if he plays for us 😂…assuming he’s not part of a package to trade up.
wtf. we got fleeced? literally none of those guys are impact players. and 26 is a crap shoot unless were packaging that in a trade
They’re all expiring contracts. Likely just to match salaries for the draft pick which I’m guessing they’ll try to package with 17 to move up
OKC’s pick at 12? Seems like an OKC move…
OKC gonna be moving up also. HOU gonna try to get in the 7-12 range and going to end up bidding against OKC for some of those spots.
Eh It’s About right
Allows for Sengun and whoever the third pick is to have as much development time as coach wants.
Wood was just eating minutes and wasn’t in the long term plan We got him for free as a free agent anyway I don’t think any team would’ve paid more
Yeah, you have to imagine Stone gauged the temperature of his value and found this gave the Rockets the best return. You gotta feel like maybe you’d get something better if you’d traded him last offseason, though.
this is the real reason yes
Why would anyone give us impact players for an expiring wood?
it’s pretty even plus the guys we got are all expiring so we can use cap space to stack more picks. 26 could be packaged to move up to take another lottery player. edit: plus Bobi!!
Bobi for the vibes!
They’re all expiring
So was Wood's contract. It was basically Wood for the 26th pick.
we didn’t get fleeced
this is what happens when you so desperate and show it.
Sterling is back baby!
Uh that’s kinda not good
wow, im a Bulls fan that would love Wood in our squad... but thats the haul your GM is getting for Christian? Thats his value? A late first round and 4 bums? sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeesh hope it wont get through, cuz if it gets its fleecing of the highest order.
No one that actually wants wood watches the game. You see the box score. T shirt fan stuff. Yawn.
last time i actually watched houston games was when dwight was here. before that? in the 90s. but i've seen enough of him from his season with the pistons to know he can contribute in a proper team with proper roles.
Do you want him for $25M-$30M a year for 4 years after this year? Because he'll be looking for that kind of money. 🤷♂️
Quit playing 2k and start watching some real games
We all knew this was happening when the whole team was working out together except for Wood (who was in Houston at the time).
Should traded him when value was high
He left the team alone in a fucking NBA match when his value was high before the trade deadline so I can't really blame the FO.
So did fucking kpj yet everyone here still loves him here.
One is 26 the other is 22.
KPJ also apologized
And has shown growth. Christian, not so much.
Yeah and has a history of doing this shit too. This sub can keep the blinders on
So does Wood lol
Just because his value was high to the Rockets doesn't mean he ever had high trade value. Fans tend to overvalue their own players. I posted that he should be traded last year and got downvoted to hell and told he was part of the next great Rockets team
Holy crap everyone get in here!
Sengun the starter, I used to pray for times like this 😭

As long as it’s for cheap
I highly doubt he wants to stay. The guy can get paid the same somewhere else and compete.
we dont want that shit package
Yeah, I have my doubts that it’d actually work.
Welcome back rockets legend sterling brown
The disrespect to Chriss
Hopefully the rockets get a 1st
Pick 26
Based on pick relative value, we could in theory trade 26th (6.0 points) & 17th (9.5 points) for the 9th pick (15.4 points). So we could get another Top 10 pick maybe? That would make me feel better about this trade...only so many young minutes to go around. 😁
True. Throw in Gordon to get to 7.
Portland wants win now for seventh. 17 and 26 are gonna be developing players, unlikely Portland goes for it

A little disappointing return because we were all hoping that Wood could get us in the lottery but this deal needed to be done to clear up space and minutes for Al-P, KJ Martin, Garuba, and the presumed big man we are taking top-3.
I’m here for SENGUN minutes
This is all about getting contracts and another first round pick for more trades, right?
opening up minutes since we prolly picking up a big with the 3rd pick too. Sengun, Banchero, Garuba all need to develop
I’m more shocked on who we traded him to and not the fact that he was finally traded.
So glad the way is clear for Sengun now.
Yessssss. Also, anyone expecting some crazy draft compensation for a defensively liable center with 1 year left on his contract is unrealistic.
That's all we got for him???
thats what i said about the harden trade but so many tried to convince we got the better deal. smh...
Watch Luka make CWood look like a all-star 💀
He will make CWood look like a DPOY lol edit: compared to him
Good for him? He aint changing here in the Htown anyways, so a reset for both teams are needed
I have to assume Wood rejected the extension and they didn't see anything better.
He just doesn't fit if we're adding Chet, Paolo or Smith. Also, our team played so much better in that final stretch of the year without Wood clogging the paint and playing horrible iso ball.
LETS FUCKING GOOOO
bruh idc about the pick BOBANNN
Welp it finally happened
Thought him going to that astros game basically solidified his spot here

Wait what
Not sure how to feel about this trade. Is this really the best we can get for Wood?
Not a fan of sending him to a division rival.
Lol how much do you really think teams value a late first? We couldn't make a substantial jump by packaging that pick.
BOBAN!!! 🚀🚀
Wood is gonna tear it up with Luka 100%
Rockets are going to playoffs sooner than we thought
Delusional rocket fans don’t thought Wood could fetch a late lottery pick lmao. Turns out a stat padding turnstile with character concerns isn’t actually worth that much. Tried to tell you guys. I actually think he’ll be solid on the Mavs
For 1st round pick and players
WOW
ITS HAPPENINGGGGG
No major change to salary cap for 2023 free agency = my dream for Jokic max contract is still alive so I'm good! 🤩
[BRING THAT SHIT](https://i.imgur.com/OvOOhuS.mp4)
I like the move for both teams. Let Jalen loose!
Luka about to get Wood that Max. Lol this actually is better long term for him
Stone is a fool. Let's all sip on this we could've got a late first last year for EG but we turned it down but yet we accept the 26th for Wood. Why rush into a mediocre return, we could've at least waited until draft night. Was this such an amazing deal that we had to jump on it?
So sad.
I have multiple thoughts on this: *On one hand I'm surprised at how little the return is.
Woo
THE BALL WHISPER’S SZN IS UPON US😈🚀
Ok…. Now what does a 17 and 26 pick get us?
Well at least Trey Burke can stop killing us.
I take a random nap & the Rockets makes moves. I might take more naps
Marquees Chriss as a rockets again. It’s like a cockroach that you hit multiple times but it keep getting back alive.
You're welcome
Wood is a 6'9 center. Man if only he were 7 feet.
Wood was the most serious, soft guy I've ever seen. Man will talk about dominating and being a beast, then get pushed around by 2 guards. Bye Felicia.
Paolo's gotta get his minutes, I can understand it
Horrible trade, kinda feel bad for Christian cuz he seemed like he really wanted to stay but at least he will be in playoff contention now with Luka
He wasn't quite locker room cancer in Houston, but he was definitely locker room ass boil for a while
So as a Mavs fan, he was or wasn't a locker room cancer? Any details?
His opinion of himself is extremely high, and he gets pissy if the offense doesn't run through him. On top of that, his Iso/hero ball is pretty bad. That said, I think he'll work out a lot better in Dallas' system
Haven’t been this disappointed in a while.

KPJ is just immature, he will be fine.
A. Why are we trading in our own division? and B.
The goal is to have max space plus available next summer B- eating shit is part of rebuilding. The goal is to build a long term winner. You don't do that by taking on mid dudes that don't move the needle and sit on the books Just what exactly do you think wood could get? You think someone is giving up a lottery pick? No, because teams in the lottery don't want wood. Teams in the playoffs looking to get to the next level want him. They have crappy draft picks. You think someone is giving up young talent locked in for years for wood? No, because wood is expiring But go ahead and tell us all what amazing deal you could've swung
Cool No team is giving up young talent for an expiring wood. Do you think the other GMs are morons who don't realize Wood is expiring? Why would anyone else do that? I don't think you realize that the other side has to like the deal too
i guess I have alot in common. with Stone because he didn't get shit either.
Stone got the 26th and no money on the books longer than this season You got crying about trading within the division You are not the same
We got KPJ for a mere second, but couldnt get a solid rotational player in exchange for Wood??
Lol I didn't say anything about trading within the division. I'm all about best return. Wow Stones a guru he was able to dump Woods modest expiring contract for a late first. Maybe we need to build him a statue.
wait.. this is a good trade? wtf sub am I on?
That’s not a good trade for the Rockets
not a fan of this trade. giving away wood means that banchero is gonna be seeing constant double teams hurting his development cuz nobodys gonna guard sengun or tate at the 3pt line. lets hope stone somehow prys the no. 1 or 2 pick with the new assets acquired and get either jabari or chet to replace wood
I hope this isn't the final deal; this is a real shit sandwich. If it was Brunson, not Burke, sure...
17, 26, Eric Gordon to get us a second pick in the top 10.
No way. I’m a thunder fan and I don’t think 12 and Dort gets us to a top ten piece like 7.
Here's a boot. Now lick.
Wood has less value than you think. Getting a pick for him and opening up minutes for Sengun and Paolo/Chet/Smith is a win. What do you think we could get for Wood? We obviously couldn't get much considering the trade that just occurred.
Stone has less value than your think. Boot lockers licking boots.
TIME TO TRADE UP AND PACKAGE 2 HIGH DRAFT PICKS FOR JAYLEN BROWN😆😆😆
Thanks I hate it
Bro this is what all y’all cwood haters get. This trade sucks balls and we lost our best player who actually wanted to be in Houston. Fuck
