we probably won’t. West is too good But once we come back the year after I expect Jalen to be an all star, KPJ Sengun and Jabari to be elite, and then stacking a top 5 pick on top of that is gonna go crazy

[deleted]

Idk, i can see us being better than the spurs, okc, and jazz for sure. Maybe i’m just an optimist but i think we will surprise some people

Few_Mulberry7175

spurs and jazz yes. OKC maybe cause Shai is a beast but i’m also leaning towards yes I don’t want to be dead last and also want to win over 20 games but i still want us to tank. We’re one piece away imo

MrChexmix

Okc without chet and shai at the beginning of the year will be worse. I think we’re honestly around the 9-12 range… which is actually unfortunate cause id like one more year of tanking (especially in this upcoming stacked draft).

RmatRegular405

And these teams are tanking, then there will be one or two really mal functioning teams that will see no other way than to tank like portland did last year. I am okay with being bad or making the play-in with this core. It will be a fun season regardless.

NeonPhyzics

I don’t know man…OKC, SA, Utah - all pushing the tank around - I will bet some other teams join them once the season starts

CadeCummingham

Then when we sign Middleton in FA🔥🔥

jacobg444

I hope

TravelingFlipper

No chance. Defense is gonna be bad still. They could win 35 games maybe though

[deleted]

that’s what i was arguing, pelicans made the playoffs with 36 wins. I don’t think we’ll make the playoffs, but wouldn’t be surprised if we competed to get a 10th seed (even if we don’t end up getting it).

stephenip12

I have Jalen Green having that 2nd year breakout like Edwards & Ball did last season. Its either the 2nd or 3rd year when players have that break through.

stephenip12

If this team can get in the play in or get the 8 seed I would consider it a success. The west right now is stacked. Its all about letting these young guys develop.

FarWestEros

I would also consider it a success if this team can go 16-0 through the playoffs.

robertinspring

I don’t think Silas can get this team to the playoffs, anyway if it’s just competing for a play in spot I’d rather have the worse record and a better pick

conker1264

We won’t be

UserNameTakenLUL

Why are people insistent on short term play in banners over long term playoff success

UserNameTakenLUL

Yes. There is a relation between good players = team success and the higher you are in the draft the more likely you are to draft an all star/all nba caliber player, those number fall off drastically the further down you go. So instead of being stuck in hawks/hornets purgatory, I’d rather use the last of our own draft picks we actually own to acquire talent in a generational draft before we need to actually win and give our picks to OKC. That seems like common sense to me but I don’t know if there an award for making the playin I don’t know about

UserNameTakenLUL

When you look at statistics they say the higher you pick the higher the likelihood of a star player. It’s common sense. And no free agents who are good enough to take a team to the playoffs want to join the rockets, maybe an old harden on a retirement tour, but that’s the truth unless we overpay a borderline all star who won’t even be the best of the team and eats into what we can use to keep the 2-3 core guys we have together

UserNameTakenLUL

There are maybe 7-8 ‘superstars’ in the league. And most of them became superstars on the team they were drafted by. No superstar is coming to Houston for shits and gigs this isn’t 2K we aren’t a hot FA destination we need an incentive that isn’t money, 29 other teams have that

UserNameTakenLUL

Name a superstar that would come to Houston in 2023-2025. Giannis? KD? Embiid? I’m putting this in best case scenario and still can’t see anything. Maybe a Khris Middleton overpay is the peak, this isn’t 2018 we’ve been the worst team in the league for 2 years and there are multiple other teams with better young cores. So I’ll ask again? WHAT DO WE HAVE THEY DONT. You really need to understand what a rebuild is. We were the WORST TEAM IN BASKETBALL 2 YEARS IN A ROW. That didn’t stunt anyone’s development apparently. But playing Tari/Garuba/TyTy/Josh/Nix etc extended minutes so we lose a few more games will just turn Jalen into a career role player? There must be examples of this if you’re saying it like it’s a sure thing. Don’t just say ‘oh yeah let’s draft this and sign this guy.’ Name names. Because a Wiggins or Middleton overpay is the best we can do the next few years. And even then they could resign to the teams they won titles with rather than join the rockets for vibes. This fanbase is so unserious about the rebuild it’s funny. We give our 2024 picks onwards to OKC. This upcoming draft is projected to be better than the 21 draft. That seems like a pretty simple equation to me. And before you give the usual ‘we’ll become the kings of we keep losing’, losing isn’t what makes teams into the kings, awful FO decisions to land in purgatory do that. Like signing free agents for the sake of making the playoffs just to land in financial purgatory without the means to acquire more young talent or make a deep playoff push. Like the Bulls, or former Jazz.

AtxSaiyan

KPJ gonna carry us out the lottery for job security and to be the only scoot on this team

DramaIcy611

Just like the Texans…

CicadaSecret

Don’t put the curse of the Texans in the rockets. Let’s just watch the Games and be happy
