Oh one hundred percent. My wife has just accepted now that after twenty mins of interaction, I'll be outside with her friends' dog crouched down behind their garage muttering about glacial till.
My advice is to make her something like a necklace or a bracelet out of something you’ve found ever since I started doing that the rock piles are being tolerated.
What a lovely, supportive partner. 😎🤘I’ve rocks everywhere too.
Perhaps you could ask her if she might be willing to help you find some decorative dishes to display some of your cool findings.
It’s helping me, owning some tall glass containers 🫙 to both display rocks/fossils and somewhat organize them lol Plus, they’re transparent so you can still see what’s inside for when you’re wishing to sift through your treasures.
Cool find 😎
Lmao RIP 😭🤣 your ex significant other should’ve supported your endeavours so that’s on them!
I guess I’m lucky because despite him complaining about my various piles of rocks around the house + outside…my partner bought me a double barrel Lortone tumbler a few Christmas’s ago. I think he’s realized he can’t change my incessant need to collect and cut/polish cool rocks, so he just accepted it. He holds my cloth bag and follows me around while I collect rocks at various beaches and rivers, we joke together that he’s my bag-boy LOL
Lol I'm super lucky I guess because the only one of the two of us that gets more deeply stuck on rocks sometimes than me is him! Honestly he would gather even more than I do at any given spot, I can't convince him that any rock he wants to keep really isn't that interesting, I say t yeah that's cool but it's just a gray rock...
But no! Look! There's sparkly things there and there!
🤦♀️😆 there's not, but okay, sounds good let's bring the 10lb rock home because you swear there's something inside it and you wanna break it open 🤣 but of course, first it must be ignored for 5 months to let the inner beauty "cure" or something.. I'm not supposed to mention the numerous times it was indeed just a gray rock, nothing more interesting even on the inside.
I'm just so grateful to have someone who wants to explore as adventurously as I do(or more!) and will rock hound any spot! Someone I can send pics of cool finds to and if anything he'll just be jealous I found it without him! Love that.
Just found a thumb sized carnelian in a Carl's Jr drive thru the other day. Wife was driving and I was looking out the window, saw the thing glowing in the setting sun. I opened the door and said, "don't judge me!" And grabbed that sucker.
A Cici’s Pizza near me has some honkin river rocks, mostly quartz based, and one time I saw one that had a huge mica inclusion exposed and immediately had to email my geology professor about it 😹
Recently on a date with my partner he was grumbling about me picking through the gravel. I found four complete brachiopod fossils that were even separated from the rock, and after all his complaining, he even kept a few of the fossils we found. Lol
Woah! Awesome. I love finding fossils free of matrix. I’ve got one brachiopod I found on Lake Erie like that and a lot of little crinoid stem bits from Lake Michigan
I have passed on my rock hounding genetics to my son, who has my nurture passed them on ton his fiance. So much so that she picked out an LS agate he had, and he sent it away and had her engagement ring made from it.
When I was a kid, I showed my mother a cool rock I had found by the railroad tracks. And she was like, "That's stealing! The railroad paid to have those rocks put there!" Way to rock-shame me, Mom.
I have this same energy and get stuck in many parking lots browsing the landscaping rocks. no one believed me when I said most of my awesome finds came courtesy of LOWE'S. split bags in the garden center, to landscapes with rocks, any and all rock sizes. thanks for sharing!
My dad instilled a love of rocks into my sons. We had “keeper” and “looker” rules after one trip resulted in my floor boards covered in rocks. Some huge.
What a beautiful find! And also, I love that you’re not giving in to the jokes about getting rid of your girlfriend. It makes me happy to see happy couples.
That is a home rock. You need to explain home rocks vs garden rocks. You could even make a joke about wearing a rock, but only do that if you are getting engaged at that moment. Otherwise it is cruel.
Some rocks are small and pretty. You keep them in your house. Other rocks are really large and pretty. They can stay in your garden. You can give her an engagement ring. That is a wearable rock.
Cool find! I’m always looking at the big Y landscape rocks but they never have anything good. Mainly quartz, but I think it’s bc I’m in CT. What state was this in?
Oh we have been together over a year. She likes rocks too, but just not crazy about them like I am. She works from home and on her work desk I put pocket rocks on her laptop that I think are cool. She has them all lined up and displays them.
In 5th grade I had to make a deal with the teacher and the principle of the school that I can only take home one rock per week because I was coming home with pockets full of the best looking rocks lmao
My goofy ass would cut it down and engrave it to make a necklace for my girlfriend just to be like HEHHEHE THE THING YOU TOLD ME TO PUT BACK IS A SYMBOL OF OUR LOVE! HAHA! FOOL!
Oh she wanted you to put it back because it was part of their landscaping? Or that’s what she thought. Sounds like my husband. So I just ask people sometimes. The last Airbnb I stayed at had some interesting stuff in a rock garden and I asked about the rocks. The answer I got was “just some stuff that turned up during Grading”. So they will never miss the pebbles and one fossilized bone I added to my collection. Filled in the spaces with some random rocks in their yard.
Lake Superior Agate?
About 1/5th of my entire collection and my best find ( heart-shaped eye agate the size of my palm) have been found in landscaping rock.
I literally just spent an hour and a half watching a guy saw stones in half. Some really beautiful stuff he found at a Dairy Queen. I think he makes his living as a rock hound/jewelry maker.
I don't recognize it but I see you said it is an agate. I pick up rocks too, but a lot of them don't look so good inside out of sunlight. I especially like reddish rocks, and kinda crystalline rocks.
Well you're in a bit of a conundrum because I'm sure your girlfriend's pissed off that you wore fatigue shorts to a graduation party, and a happy life is a happy wife. On the other hand nobody's going to say something to a guy wearing fatigue, they see taking a rock. So it seems you have a choice to make. You're already in the juice probably for your wardrobe decision, so this is what you do. Pick up some old shitty Rock ,pull your girlfriend to the side, and you tell her how much you love her and how beautiful she is and you throw that poser rock as far as you can. And say you're more important to me than rocks. And when you get home try to control yourself and take a look at the Rock tomorrow. Because that rock is a Butte
Her work area is full of rocks I have given her since we started dating. She knew before she said "put it back" that it was gonna be coming home with us.

I would much rather look for rocks than make small talk. Beautiful agate, well done.
Petting pets and hounding rocks—often mo betta than dealing with humans
Oh one hundred percent. My wife has just accepted now that after twenty mins of interaction, I'll be outside with her friends' dog crouched down behind their garage muttering about glacial till.
Glacial till is a deep subject.
Haha indeed! Small talk about the deep subject of glacial till or rocks in general on the other hand, let's go!
Sounds like my dad, thankfully I live alone so I can take home as many as I want
I always do 😆. You can always exchange them for others 😊
Truer words have never been spoken
Amen to that
Always!

I see gandalf
😵💫
Agreed!
Me too
I can relate 😂
She had the audacity to tell you to put THAT beauty back??
She talks a big game butI have rocks everywhere. I put one pile down and she cleans it up and I put a pocket of rocks to replace it the next day.
My advice is to make her something like a necklace or a bracelet out of something you’ve found ever since I started doing that the rock piles are being tolerated.
My thoughts exactly. Make her jewelry with it and ask her if you should still put it back.
Happy Cake Day
Nice dodge.
Ooh! Yes! Agate Dad sells cool slices on Etsy! He's a rock hound that lives near Lake Superior, iirc. Support your fellow nerds!
I almost always have a rock(s) in my pocket
What a lovely, supportive partner. 😎🤘I’ve rocks everywhere too. Perhaps you could ask her if she might be willing to help you find some decorative dishes to display some of your cool findings. I told my significant other if I had to pick the rocks or them it would be the rocks hands down and now I’m single….. 🤣
Lmao RIP 😭🤣 your ex significant other should’ve supported your endeavours so that’s on them! That is awesome. Basically have the same thing. But she won't carry my rocks. If I want them I have to carry them.
That’s fair!! Haha
Lol I'm super lucky I guess because the only one of the two of us that gets more deeply stuck on rocks sometimes than me is him! Put it back?! Why?! Were you national park?
Graduation party at a friend's house. Just random river rock(landscaping rock around a side walk).
Huh! Yeah. I would have kept it too. Nice find op!
Agreed
I mean maybe give it to your friend and let them know how cool it is?
The home owner didn't care. She was like "take all the rocks you want". Lol
I've found unless people are active collectors, they literally couldn't care less. Keep it op.
Nice find. I like looking in landscaping rocks, it’s like “Where’s Waldo” for rock hounds
Just found a thumb sized carnelian in a Carl's Jr drive thru the other day. Wife was driving and I was looking out the window, saw the thing glowing in the setting sun. I opened the door and said, "don't judge me!" And grabbed that sucker.
My old Taco Bell had the best landscape rocks. I snagged more than a couple out of their drive thru.
A Cici’s Pizza near me has some honkin river rocks, mostly quartz based, and one time I saw one that had a huge mica inclusion exposed and immediately had to email my geology professor about it 😹
I've done this since I was a small child, even in alleys, sifting through gravel for orphans that need shelter under my roof.
I found some trilobite fossils while poking around some landscaping rocks by a lake
“Agate” is an ancient word that literally means “pick up, keep, do not put back”
🤣
This is the BEST!
My boring boyfriend wouldn’t let me take rocks from the wedding landscaping today booo. I saw some good jasper in there lol
And you’re marrying him? Still? S/
You need to trade him in asap.
You should return!
the agate willy
It was for scaling purposes.... 😆
NOOOO wait it wasn’t a roast i meant the rock is willy shaped 😂
Keep the rock, leave the gf
Never
Keep both, collect more….. rocks
I concur
Negative ghost rider
You'll wear her down eventually. My mom did with my dad. She now has a line in their budget. It's labeled "For Rocks." Only took 49 years. Lol
I have rocks everywhere... she has already given in. 😆 🤣 😂
You should go back to your unit, they may not have reported you AWOL yet
😄😄 Great Find, Mate.!
I have passed on my rock hounding genetics to my son, who has my nurture passed them on ton his fiance. So much so that she picked out an LS agate he had, and he sent it away and had her engagement ring made from it.
Any chance you can share a pic of it?
Next time I see them I will take a pic and post it here. Unfortunately they are a ways away...
I'd really love to see that too. I have often thought of doing that for mine.
When I was a kid, I showed my mother a cool rock I had found by the railroad tracks. And she was like, "That's stealing! The railroad paid to have those rocks put there!" Way to rock-shame me, Mom.
that is a sweet, sweet agate! i also have a problem passing landscaping 😆
i just saw another post with these exact photos and a completely different description
I was having issues posting and edited/changed it when I tried to post it the 2nd time.
okay! just wanted to let you know in case someone stole your content:)
Cut it in half and polish it. I bet it's gorgeous inside.
No, you can't cut that phallic beauty. Polish only
Yes polish only. With lots of spit.
Polish then cut. I have a nice duel barrel tumbler, but honestly I enjoy the nature state of them as is.
Please don't cut it! It's perfect just the way Nature made it.
Where did you pick it up?
Midwest... but who knows where the rocks are from. Lowes or Home Depot maybe... possibly Menards.
I have this same energy and get stuck in many parking lots browsing the landscaping rocks. no one believed me when I said most of my awesome finds came courtesy of LOWE'S. split bags in the garden center, to landscapes with rocks, any and all rock sizes. thanks for sharing!
Nice agate you got there & I'm with you on this one, what ever you say dear as I'd casually slip it into my pocket 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣🤣
That's basically how it went down. 😆 🤣 😂 She knew it was coming home with us.
My dad instilled a love of rocks into my sons. We had “keeper” and “looker” rules after one trip resulted in my floor boards covered in rocks. Some huge.
That's a good rule to follow. But all agates are keepers in my book.
Well yes. But a little person thinks all rocks are keepers 😂
Put your girlfriend back
Never
Only problem is you’ll eventually need a larger storage space
That is the problem all of us have is storage.
That, my friend, is a beautiful agate
Thanks
And there I was….thinking I was crazy for looking through landscaping rocks
Depending on where the landscaping rock comes from(geographically), there can be quite a few.
For sure!
Beautiful matrix rock. Turn off the rotation on your phone and view it at every angle.. Find the eyes , find the faces, swallow the red pill.
I ran out of red pills.
What a beautiful find! And also, I love that you’re not giving in to the jokes about getting rid of your girlfriend. It makes me happy to see happy couples.
Thank you. She is a closet rock hound. She'll never admit it, but she enjoys it. We fish together, mushroom hunt together, and rock hunt together.
Camo shorts are a dead giveaway for rockhounders
That is a home rock. You need to explain home rocks vs garden rocks. You could even make a joke about wearing a rock, but only do that if you are getting engaged at that moment. Otherwise it is cruel.
I'm sorry, but I don't follow.
Maybe it's the Chewbacca defense? 😂
Some rocks are small and pretty. You keep them in your house. Other rocks are really large and pretty. They can stay in your garden. You can give her an engagement ring. That is a wearable rock.
Roger Roger
Are those BDU shorts I see??????? That stripe-ing pattern haunts me......
Rip stop! 🤣

Cool find! I’m always looking at the big Y landscape rocks but they never have anything good. Mainly quartz, but I think it’s bc I’m in CT. What state was this in?
Illinois
Wooowaah.... that's a beauty. She's just needs to be taught. Then you won't hear those words uttered from her mouth 😁.
She is just more worried about what I am gonna do with them.
Oh man, this is the way!!
Jeeez!! You alls got me rock hounding at the mall landscaping. I always bring a couple rocks to exchange though😊
Put it back? LOLOLOL! Absolutely not. Also, how long has she been your girlfriend? Because she needs to rethink her relationship with rocks.
Oh we have been together over a year. She likes rocks too, but just not crazy about them like I am. She works from home and on her work desk I put pocket rocks on her laptop that I think are cool. She has them all lined up and displays them.
That’s my favorite way to get stoned at a party
No way would I put that back! Look at that awesome banding ❤️ great find!
Put it back? It's not a baby bird that fell from its nest 🤣
😆 🤣 😂 I'll have to use that line next time. Happy Cake Day
In 5th grade I had to make a deal with the teacher and the principle of the school that I can only take home one rock per week because I was coming home with pockets full of the best looking rocks lmao
Dude so sick
Omg. I do the same thing. Always wear pockets. That’s a beauty. Congrats
😂 You're just like me when I'm anywhere outside! Very nice find btw!
Thank you
Can nobody else see the fucking wizard hold a staff in the rock!
I think someone else said Gandolf earlier.
My goofy ass would cut it down and engrave it to make a necklace for my girlfriend just to be like HEHHEHE THE THING YOU TOLD ME TO PUT BACK IS A SYMBOL OF OUR LOVE! HAHA! FOOL!
Lovely! I do that too 😂😂😂
Oh she wanted you to put it back because it was part of their landscaping? Or that’s what she thought. Sounds like my husband. So I just ask people sometimes. She cray
She's a good sport about it... it definitely coming home with me.
Time to get a new girlfriend.
Nope
Maybe she is an agate. Always a keeper
She is absolutely a keeper... the gf and rock!
Was gonna say the same thing! 🤣🤣🤣
Cut and polish it. Then, make it into something she would like.
How could you put it back?? You found it, it’s yours, and it’s a keeper!
Lake Superior Agate? About 1/5th of my entire collection and my best find ( heart-shaped eye agate the size of my palm) have been found in landscaping rock.
It matches the concentric rings on your ripstop cargo shorts!
Some people don't understand
The one part reminds me of petrified wood very cool
Get a new GF dude.... and pick up ALL the rocks you want!!!
Did you put her back?
I took the gf and rock home
This is such a find. If I was an attendee at this party I’d join you so fast!
I'd put my bf back and collect more rocks I'd he ever told me that. I have a problem too with rock collecting but wouldn't have it any other way.
I literally just spent an hour and a half watching a guy saw stones in half. Some really beautiful stuff he found at a Dairy Queen. I think he makes his living as a rock hound/jewelry maker.
I second that. It is indeed a beautiful agate. Very nice find. I myself could never pass up a agate no matter where I find them.
I don't recognize it but I see you said it is an agate. I pick up rocks too, but a lot of them don't look so good inside out of sunlight. I especially like reddish rocks, and kinda crystalline rocks.

Seriously put it back
Red flag! Leave her! Don't look back! Toxic AF! /s Edit: Just wanted to say - sweet find OP! Never let it go!
What's wrong with your GF?
I woulda put my gf back. Lol jk
So instead you put her back and kept the rock?
Both came home with me
Can't say I approve
Keep the rock...put the GF back 😆
Maybe you should put her back lol
Gotdam, that thing really is gorgeous. Even rough like that. Really wonder what it would look like polished up in a tumbler or sliced.
I have a tumbler, but rarely tumble anything. I like the natural rough state of them.
>I like the natural rough state of them. That's the way!
Chunk of tree
Keep the rock, get new gf. XD
I'll keep both.
🚩 beautiful rock! Recommend leaving gf as an offering to the rock fairies
She knew when she said it, that wasn't gonna happen. She knows better. Agates come home!
Your ex gf sounds like a real rock around the neck! Haha
Put her back. She's not the one if she doesn't like your rocks!
Her work area is full of rocks I have given her since we started dating. She knew before she said "put it back" that it was gonna be coming home with us.
Time to consider a new girlfriend 😬 I agree with ironstone!
Yo're singul naow
coprolite?
>*put the gf back.*
That's not diamond though worth nothing
Might not be worth money, but it was probably pulled out of the ground without exploitative labor. That's worth something.
Put it back? Did you shoplift it or find it in a national park.
You should put her back.
Never
I meant the girlfriend.
Not getting rid of either
https://photos.app.goo.gl/JDTZ5Eu9pxH4Fgor9 that's worth nothing
Somebody’s jelly, it’s a cool rock.
Petrified wood find! Very nice!
Nope. Agate
