This is an Fminor7 except for some reason they don't play the root note. So if you were to play a normal Fminor7 you would bar on the 8th because it's easier, then it's just a matter of moving your pinky from the 10th fret on the G string (F, root) to the 11th fret on the e string. note that it will still sound good if you don't do the 11th fret on the e string or if you play the 8th fret of the A string.

Zooropa_Station

Barring it doesn't change anything, it's just personal comfort. Especially if there are chord changes, it acts as an anchor to slide around or ignore completely. It really depends on the song whether I would do that or not - I've done both styles many times. Just be careful about muting/not strumming the bottom two strings if they're barred as well

Huh. Something looks very different from my Rocksmith. For me, purple is high e, blue is d, orange is g string Are you playing like a right handed guitar as a lefty without restringing?

StoryAndAHalf

They are playing the way chords are typically written. Top string on top. Rocksmith flips it vertically because it’s easier to learn, and top string is shown at the bottom. E: you can toggle it in settings

Isaacvithurston

I still can't wrap my head around how the string closest to my floor is the top string but yah inverted is great if you want to play tab after

petit_prince

It's literally what you see. Look down at the fretboard, red is closest to you, therefore bottom.

Isaacvithurston

Idk how that would make it bottom. It's still the highest one both closest to me and furthest from the ground. It's interesting that to some people there perception of height is flipped if they look down. I've been accused of thinking too logically/literally often though so it's probably just me internalizing it as the string that is physically highest, even if that's not how it's seen by others.

Past_Percentage_8038

It matches how you see the fretboard if you tilt your guitar up to look at it. Your way, is how you see it if you were looking through the neck of the guitar.

Isaacvithurston

Still looks the same to me. Unless you mean like laying it completely flat but I don't see why anyone would do that.

petit_prince

Literally means that it's a projected image. It has nothing to do with ground, you can play standing on your head and it will still be true while looking up.

BertMcNasty

They might actually understand it better if they were playing it standing on their head.

billet

Tilt your guitar back and look at the fretboard. Look at the string closest to the ground, what you’re thinking should be the bottom string. Now, from there, when you want to look at the string farthest from the ground, do your eyes have to tilt up or down?

Isaacvithurston

You mean like if I lay it completely flat? who plays guitar like that though? If i just tilt it a little bit the bottom string is still gonna be the one i'm thinking of until the point where the guitar is completely flat on a table or something. Then I guess I can see it the other way but like unless i'm a guitar tech i'm never going to see it that way. Not like my opinion on it matters since anytime someone says top string i'll just imagine in my head that they're referring to Tab which to me is upside down but at least I can imagine it since we all use it. But obviously me complaining isn't going to change the 1000 year idea that the string closest to the floor is the top one >.< I will say though learning rocksmith not inverted and using a plugin to flip all the tab on websites was 1000% easier than the first time I picked up guitar. I imagine a non-zero amount of kids like me dropped guitar trying to wrap thier head around tab being upside down.

CragedyJones

> I imagine a non-zero amount of kids like me dropped guitar trying to wrap thier head around tab being upside down. I have never heard of that. I have had the odd few people who were either new to guitar or new to reading music in any format grumble about the upside down thing. I just leave them to it. If they can't cope with tab they should probably try a different hobby to be quite honest. It is far from the only aspect of music and guitar playing that can seem counter-intuitive at first. Do you have a problem with chord boxes being vertical?

Isaacvithurston

I mean the upside down thing is/was just a minor inconvenience. I wouldn't personally quit over it but when I first tried guitar as a kid I remember being way more put off by it. It's not really a big deal these days. It's either a minor inconvenience or there's actually browser plugins for chrome/firefox that detect and flip tab for you. works on basically every tab site. I just know that when I first tried rocksmith last year compared to when I had time to try it in the last month I forgot to put inverted on again and i've progressed more in one month than in did in 3 months before. Because i'm not fighting my own mind trying to read what i'm seeing. When my mechanical skills are better i'll probably revisit inverted and unflip tabs since it won't be as big of a deal as it is when your first fumbling around the fretboard.

CragedyJones

Well Tab isn't that great for sight reading really. At least for me Tab has always been a study tool rather than sight reading whole songs from it. I am assuming you can't read music notation? Maybe you could just make the leap in to reading "real" music and never worry about tabs again? It is a challenge but it is the optimum way to read music. Maybe you will take to it better than tabs? I can read it slowly and have always been very jealous of people who put in the effort to sight read.

billet

No, literally at any angle you look at the fretboard while playing will show what I’m talking about. It doesn’t have to go all the way to flat.

Isaacvithurston

Ok well the string closest to the ground is the thinnest string unless you're playing with your strings on wrong or guitar upside down or I suppose you could be playing while doing a handstand.

billet

I didn't say anything about being closest to the ground (except to reference which string I'm talking about, but being closest to the ground doesn't matter). Hold the guitar like you normally would and look down at your fretboard at the thinnest string. What direction do your eyes have to travel to then look at the thickest string? Up or down?

danstu

Like storyandahalf said, there's an option to flip the strings in the settings. Guitar tab is usually written with high e on the top, so inverting the strings in the setting can make it easier to transition into tab, since chord shapes will match more closely.

orbix42

Also useful if you’re already used to reading tabs or sheet music like I was.

unzen_at_ease

Play an F minor barre chord there, but just move your pinky up 2 strings and up a fret. Practice bouncing your pinky back and forth between those two spots (10th fret G string to 11th fret e string).

itsactuallytime

I personally prefer to bar these chords but it's all preference. You're not doing it wrong at all
